when it rains
you worry none
for you always
bring the umbrella
with you

there are those who
brave the rain
and will not open
an umbrella to
show their
dissent

they are those
whom you call different
for unlike you
you studied well the laws
of comfort
and subservience
not minding the
ways of the
abusive Rain
the faulty Canals
the acidity of the clime
the foulness of
the Ruins.

Umbrella Man

When the sun just refuses to shine on through
And its cats and doggies all over you
You need some protection so what do you do
See the umbrella man
Go and see the umbrella man
When its raining - umbrella man, umbrella man
You can see him when its sunny, when the rain comes down
You ought to find a corner where hes always found
A reflection in a puddle, just turn around
To see the umbrella man
Go and see the umbrella man
When its raining - umbrella man, umbrella man
There are some things in life on which you can depend
Dont try to guess when itll rain again
You dont have to worry cause youve got a friend
Come see the umbrella man
I will be your umbrella man
When its raining - umbrella man
Go and see the umbrella man
Dont forget the umbrella man
When its raining - umbrella man
I will be your umbrella man, umbrella man

Umbrella

Today is the day you will shine.
There will be a little rain though,
But don't worry I will protect you by being your umbrella.

No go off and light up the world.
Always remember, I am only one click away from being your cover,
Like an umbrella.

Umbrella Song

On the poor side of town, lives a girl no one knows
With her worn out shoes and her ragged clothes
Her mother tries to provide since her father has died
But no one even cares if shes alive
And when the rain comes down
Shes never getting wet
And though the skies are gray
Shell still be smiling yet
Cause in her eyes theres no teardrops
In her heart theres no pain
Shes got her love as an umbrella from the rain
Oh, what love is an umbrella from the rain
On the rich side of town, lives a boy no one knows
With his shiny shoes and his fancy clothes
Hes got everything he needs if he wants to succeed
But no one even cares if hes alive
And when the rain comes down
Hes never getting wet
And though the skies are gray
Hell still be smiling yet
Cause in his eyes theres no teardrops
In his heart theres no pain
Hes got his love as an umbrella from the rain
Oh, his love is an umbrella from the rain
Isnt life feeling strange and money cant buy
All you need to get by
All around the world, there are folks no one knows
If theyre worn out shoes, their fancy clothes
Will they find more there to give for and open the door
To know that someone cares if theyre alive
And when the rain comes down
Were never getting wet
And though the skies are gray
Well still be smiling yet
Cause in our eyes theres no teardrops
In our hearts theres no pain
Weve got a love as an umbrella from the rain
Oh, our love is an umbrella from the rain
And when the rain comes down
Were never getting wet
And though the skies are gray
Well still be smiling yet
(repeat 4x to fade)

Bus Stop

The Hollies
Bus Stop
(Written by Graham Gouldman of 10CC)
Single release 1966
Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say
"please share my umbrella."
On bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
under my umbrella.
All that summer we enjoyed it, wind and rain and shine.
That umbrella we employed it, by august she was mine.
Ev'ry mornin' I would see her waiting at the stop
sometimes she'd shop
and she would show me what she'd bought.
All the people stared as if we were both quite insane.
Some day my name and hers are going to be the same.
That's the way the whole thing started, silly, but it's true.
I'm thinking of a sweet romance beginning in a queue.
Came the sun, the ice was melting, no more sheltering now.
Nice to think that that umbrella led me to a vow.
{interlude}
Ev'ry mornin' I would see her waiting at the stop
sometimes she'd shop
and she would show me what she'd bought.
All the people stared as if we were both quite insane.
Some day my name and hers are going to be the same.
Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say
"please share my umbrella."
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
under my umbrella.
All that summer we enjoyed it, wind and rain and shine.
That umbrella we employed it, by august she was mine.
{interlude fades out}

To Write Truthfully About The Rain

i must be here when the rain falls
heavily and when the waters rise
above canals and manholes
where what i see is water everywhere
when the rain does not stop
i must cross this street to another
street taking the middle of this flooded ways
without an umbrella
without my clothes on

the rain falls in all freedom
to the pores of my body
penetrating the thickness of my hair
my mouth drinks its drops
my ears take some more

i may be blinded and even be deaf
let the rain fall freely & heavily on my body

only then can i truthfully write about this rain
this walk this wetness this freedom this oneness
on the world that cries on these drops these tears

Wet Nurse

She came with an umbrella
but there is no rain at all.
My lonely heart is longing for a shelter
and she gave me the umbrella.
She left without a word in midnight
and the incessant rain started.
Thunder and lightning all over the sky
and my heart laments for her.

I'M THE UMBRELLA MAN
DANCING IN THE RAIN
WITH NO WORRIES AND NO HURRIES
JUST FEELING THE FREEDOM OF BEING FREE
SO WON'T YOU PLEASE DANCE WITH ME
I'M THE UMBRELLA MAN
DANCING IN THE RAIN
PLEASE DON'T TRY TO UNDERSTAND
JUST TAKE MY HAND
AND DANCE WITH ME
FEEL THE FREEDOM OF BEING FREE
UNDERNEATH MY UMBRELLA WITH ME
SO WON'T YOU PLEASE
JUST DANCE WITH ME

My Umbrella

With the gray clouds
Forming, I grab my umbrella
I have no idea
About how bad it will be
If it will be drizzing
Or if it will be pouring
Whatever the case maybe
I have my umbrella with me
Rain, sleet, snow, or shine
I know that I will be fine
That's how I feel
About our Lord
He's my umbrella
He is right above my head
He protects me
During anytime
Or kind of weather
So even if I get
A little wet
I know God will protect
He will handle it
For He's always with me
No matter how stormy
The weather
God will always make it
Better
Because we walk together

When the rain stopped

it was when the rain stopped
that you left me: i own the umbrella
that you do not need now. You return
it. It was when the rain stopped
that you forget my name. My name
is need. And what you need is love.
My name is necessity. But what
you need is the luxury of honesty.

it was when the rain stopped that
you were honest enough to say:
i do not need you. I do not love you.

and then it rains so hard again
and you come knocking on my
door. You are wet. You are cold.
You are shivering. You are
trembling.

I look at you inside my house
looking by the window. I hide
behind the blue curtain. And i
tell myself: I do not believe you
anymore. And i ask myself:

How can i believe you again?

And then the rain stops.
And then you are gone.

And then i open the window.
And then i see the white dove flying
and hovering near a tree beside my window.

And then i set my heart free.

Walking through the rain with my umbrella,
Nice and lovely to swing with the muse of love;

But i am protected under this umbrella.

Pour

when it rains it pours
and when it pours
and you are caught
without an umbrella
when there is no
shade to hide
no place to go

why not stand still
and let the rain
pour and pour and
well,
tell yourself
the rain tastes good
the rain smells good
the rain feels good

and perhaps, life
will not be that miserable

The Umbrella

Proud Sun shows its true colors these days
And it's pretty warm.
I walk under an umbrella and it gives me the shade.
I do not know how could I repay you for your faithful service?
When rain comes I promise you to take out definitely for all my debts.
But it's very difficult to keep promises when a poor vagabond walks in illusions.
Anyway you are my survivor till the journey's end.
What do you prefer my friend if I call you umbrella or parasol?

Black Umbrella

in our custom
a man must take an umbrella
and must raise it
like a gentleman

it must remain raised
even when the rain stops
until the woman signals
otherwise

this time it is the Chief Justice
doing it for the First Lady of
the President

there is more to this tradition
than meets the eye
it is my perfect picture of
subservience and
corruption....

Tarantella with an Umbrella during the Drought - Parody Hilaire BELLOC – Tarantella

Do you remember the rain, Umbrella,
Do you remember the rain?
And the wedding when outspreading
all your spokes were poked when heading
off the drops which wet the bedding -
so upsetting was that wetting!

Now no breeze in the trees of the dry Pyrennees,
And the Alps aren’t any better, -
No, neither are they wetter!
Where are storms once we cursed near and far,
and the rain drained from pane with a ceaseless refrain
under cloud sky with no star?
Do you rememer the rain, umbrella,
Do you remember its reign?

Then the pane would complain in both city and plain
of the strain, while again and again
the relentless pitter-patter,
while the winds all the blossoms did scatter.
Where’s the thunder now? What is the matter?
When the rain leaked within, what a din out and in!
and the pit-a-pat on the mat
with all hands to the thermostat
when the lightning that
was advancing, chancing, dancing, clancing,
flashing fer-de-lancing,
and the sing-song moan which ajar
set the door swinging far, -
only the strain does remain where once rain leaked amain
causing pain, flooding Seine - drought’s a bane!

Do you remember the rain, umbrella,
do you remember the rain?
Dusty the twirl of the swirl, whats to blame? all exclaim!
Is it Tchernobyl fame as some claim?
Climate change danger, strange insects range? Sunspot flame?
Or the ozone scare drying the air everywhere?
When the name of the game drought can claim, what a shame!
Never more, Umbrella,
Never more will it pour where before
the torrent so proudly would roar.
No sound where the sound’s now dry ground, and no boom,
No Waterfall, dust to dust covers all - ‘tis Man’s doom...

Rain Song

I dont think about us much anymore
Frankly, the topic has become a bore
And you dont come up much in my conversation
I dont think about you on vacation
But when it rains
When it rains
When it rains
Thats when I remember
Thats when I remember
I remember you
I remember you
I dont think about you when Im sleeping
It doesnt even cross my dreamlike mind
I dont think I see your face through the curtains
Hell, I dont even miss you half the time
But when it rains
When it rains
When it rains
Thats when I remember
Thats when I remember
I remember you
I remember you
Im doing fine as long as you stay locked up
Inside a cloud of grey
Rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain
But when it rains
When it rains
When it rains
But when it rains
When it rains
When it rains
Thats when I remember
Thats when I remember
I remember you
I remember you
Well thats when I remember
The only time I remember
When I remember you

We Are But Mere Paths

we are but mere paths
where their shoes tread upon us
their umbrella tips their staff
they all touch our surfaces

during the rain
the waters run the drain
and we become not just the paths
of their stamping and running feet
we become their canals

we move through histories of men
we are their paths and their canals
we let their blood flow through us

we remain faithful to this tasks
taking glimpses of the face of God
we face the heavens
we believe in the falling of the stars

we are but paths
all histories of men's feet walk upon us
we are but the grasses
we bury their carcasses

Soft Rain

Soft Rain

I like rain, not hard, angry rain with an attitude
who, was neglected by the mother cloud, and
angrily show its hate towards those who had
nothing to do with its misbegotten infanthood.
No I´m thinking of soft rain that is like a caress,
a kiss of eternities promises.

And nature is still, this is a moment of rapture
a longing for so long denied blissfully fulfilled.
The dampness of my skullcap and my alpaca
jacket is so soft that it almost feels like oil, but
I know I´m just a spectator under an umbrella
who ought to go home and lit the fire.
