Walking Through the Upper East Side
All over the district, on leather couches
& brocade couches, on daybeds
& 'professional divans,' they are confessing.
The air is thick with it,
the ears of analysts must be sticky.
Words fill the air above couches & hover there
hanging like smog. I imagine
impossible Steinberg scrolls,
unutterable sounds suspended in inked curlicues
while the Braque print & the innocuous Utrillo
look on look on look on.
My six analysts for example-
the sly Czech who tucked his shoelaces
under the tongues of his shoes,
the mistress of social work with orange hair,
the famous old german who said:
'You sink, zerefore you are,'
the bouncy American who loved to talk dirty,
the bitchy widow of a famous theoretician,
& another-or was it two?-I have forgotten-
they rise like a Greek chorus in my dreams.
They reproach me for my messy life.
They do not offer to refund my money.
& the others-siblings for an hour or so-
ghosts whom I brushed in & out of the door.
Sometimes the couch was warm from their bodies.
Only our coats knew each other,
rubbing shoulders in the dark closet.

yours is the only version of my desertion that I could ever subscribe to
that is all that I can do
you are a past dinner the last winner I'm raking all around me
until the last drop is behind you
you're so cute when you're frustrated, dear
you're so cute when you're sedated, dear
i'm resting
sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight
you are the only person who's completely certain there's nothing here to be into
that is all that you can do
you are a past sinner, the last winner and everything we've come to
makes you you
and you cannot safely say while I will be away
that you will not consider sadly how you hurt me this free
you will not reach me I am resenting a position that is past resentment now I can consider now there is this distance so
sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight
something to say
something to do
nothing to say
when there's nothing to do

Famous Last Words

Milene music, inc.
Famous last words, Ill be right back in a little while,
Ill be home early, famous last words.
Here comes the dawn, got to be headin home in a little while,
Shell be up singing along with the birds,
Still believing famous last words.
Chorus:
After all is said and done,
You know that I would never do you no wrong,
I never lied, never even tried,
Even in famous last words.
She sits there waiting, anticipating his return,
There all alone, if only the phone would ring,
Telling her only one thing, famous last words.

Let Them In
[edwin]
Let them in, peter
For they are very tight
Give them couches where the angels sleep
And let those free
Let them wake up whole again
To brand new dreams
And fired by the sun
Not wartimes bloody guns
And may their peace be deep
Remember where the broken bodies lie
God knows how young they were to have to die
Well, God knows how young they were to have to die
[jewel]
Give them things they like
Let them make some noise
Give (? ? ) armbands and golden harps to these old boys
Let them love, peter
For theyve had no time
They should have birds, songs, and trees
And hills to climb
The task of summer
In a ripened pear
And girls as sweet as meadow wind with flowing hair
And tell them how they are missed
But say not to fear
Its gonna be all right with us down here
Its gonna be all right with us down here
[edwin & jewel]
Let them in, peter
For they are very tight
Give them couches where the angels sleep
And let those free
Let them wake up whole again
To brand new dreams
And fired by the sun
Not wartimes bloody guns
And may their peace be deep
Remember where the broken bodies lie
God knows how young they were to have to die
And tell them how they are missed
But say not to fear
Its gonna be all right with us down here
Its gonna be all right with us down here

A Most Famous I Am Poem
The most famous 'I Am' poem came from the pen of John Clare
When in Northampton mental asylum his type of person rare
Since when mentally unwell his best poems he did pen
One of the most amazing in his time of literary men.
The most famous 'I Am' poem of self does not boast
From the pen of one who to self never drunk a toast
A poor and mentally ill and near forgotten man
One close to the end of his tragic life span.
The most famous 'I Am' poem to it has a sad ring
'Tis not of the wonderful life it does sing
Now used as the anthem poem of the mentally ill
The most famous 'I Am' poem life's cup of dark sorrows does fill.
The most famous 'I Am' poem not a great song of life
But of one who had struggled with his inner strife
From the heart of a poor poet a cry of despair
The most famous 'I Am' poem from the pen of John Clare.

Im Nearly Famous
The record man saiddont let it go to your head,Im gonna make you a star
If youve got it,use it,but dont abuse it,gave me money from an old fruit jar
To exercise my delight,i went out that night and shook the town the way I knew
How
So mama please dont worry about me,Im nearly famous now
Six months later Im a cool operator, and I know my way around
The record man sighed,he really tried, but he couldnt get it off the ground
But that dont bother me now cos Ive got a friend whos gotta friend who
Really knows how
So mama please dont worry about me,Im nearly famous now
Still hanging on,still hanging on,hang on
I met this real live walking,self-styled,self-assured,slow talking bore
I thought Id play him along, give him a song,to keep the doom dust away from
My door
But I didnt do what he wanted me to,but it didnt seem to matter somehow
So mama please dont worry about me,Im nearly famous now
Still hanging on,still hanging on,hang on
Six months later Im a part time waiter, but that didnt last long
I stretched and squeezed at words Id never heard to write a song
And when it finally came,it sounded the same as a tune Id heard before
Somehow
But mama please dont worry about me,Im nearly famous now
Still hanging on.still hanging on

Famous Last Words Of A Fool
I told her I wouldnt miss her at all
As she walked to the door
I couldnt care less
If she didnt care anymore
And with tears in my eyes, I lied
I was glad we were through
As she drove away cryin at the famous last words of a fool
Famous last words of a fool
Famous last words of a fool
You wont break my heart and I dont love you
The famous last words of a fool.
The first night without her would be easy
I kept telling myself
All the while dying
At the thought of her lying somewhere else
Therell be nothing to it
Ill easily find someone new
As my breaking heart echoed the famous last words of a fool
Repeat chorus
You wont break my heart and I dont love you
The famous last words of a fool

Famous Final Scene
Words and music by bob seger
Think in terms of bridges burned
Think of seasons that must end
See the rivers rise and fall
They will rise and fall again
Everything must have an end
Like an ocean to a shore
Like a river to a stream
Like a river to a stream
Its the famous final scene
And how you tried to make it work
Did you really think it could
How you tried to make it last
Did you really think it would
Like a guest who stayed too long
Now its finally time to leave
Yes, its finally time to leave
Take it calmly and serene
Its the famous final scene
Its been coming on so long
You were just the last to know
Its been a long time since youve smiled
Seems like oh so long ago
Now the stage has all been set
And the nights are growing cold
Soon the winter will be here
And theres no one warm to hold
Now the lines have all been read
And you knew them all by heart
Now you move toward the door
Here it comes the hardest part
Try the handle of the road
Feeling different feeling strange
This can never be arranged
As the light fades from the screen
From the famous final scene

They Have Struck The Motherlode
Few can placate by folly.
With an appeasing done,
To quench and finalize...
What arises that may disturb.
However...
Those who are comedic,
May succeed temporarily.
But the ones gifted,
With psychiatry as a profession...
May find today,
They have struck the motherlode...
Of unending fortune.
With appointments to have folks laid out,
On leather couches forever.

Famous
Oh I know
That things are gonna change
The only thing for certain
Is that nothing stays the same
But all I want
Is love from you
Give me your hand
To hold on to
And if tears fill your eyes
Listen to my music its no surprise
Chorus:
I dont want to be famous in life
I dont want to be famous in the world
I just want to be famous
Famous
I want to be famous in your heart
Oh I know
The wind is gonna blow
And in the winter
Theres sure to be snow
But with the warmth of your smile
And the sun of your face
Shine on me in the darkness
With your love and grace
And if time hides my eyes
Listen to my music and recognize
Chorus
And if time hides my eyes
Listen to my music
Listen to my music and recognize
Chorus

Unbelievers
Calling all you non-achievers
We are as one and we make a stand
Our wishes of no direction
Repay (?) the same till we reach the end
I imagine all these people
Running up to shake our hands
As we walk along we could be famous
We walk along we could be famous
Yellow buses, streams of caravans
Winding the highway like a snake
Pity all those unbelievers
Busy in life till they make the grey [break]
I imagine ancient places
Sunbeat in some endless heat as
We walk along we could be famous
We walk along we could be dreamers
We walk along we could be strangers
We walk along we could be dangerous
I imagine all these places
I imagine all these things as
We walk along we could be famous
We walk along we could be invisible
We walk along we could be strangers
We walk along we could be dangerous
We walk along we could be famous
We walk along we could be invisible
We walk along we could be strangers
We walk along we could be dangerous...

The Sun & The Moon
They snakes they can crawl
And the cheetahs they can bawl
And their ghosts can wait for the hereafter
But if you are so proud
As to say thats not allowed
We will get sick and choke ourselves with laughter
And the girlfriends that you knew
To whom you promised to be true
Well have their sisters
Hanging from the rafters
And every dirty shade will rise rotting from the grave
Tomorrow will be just like the day after
And this bitter desert wind
Will come ripping through your skin
And everything thats calm will turn to madness
And all of your fake tears
Will come whirling down the years
And what was kind and warm will come to sadness
And the sun and the moon
Will come begging at your door
The stars will turn to rust
And drop from the skies
And everybody will soon be asking you for more
And everybody will be telling lies
And the girlfriends that you knew
To whom you promised to be true
Well have their sisters
Hanging from the rafters
And every dirty shade will rise rotting from the grave
Tomorrow will be just like the day after

Smalltown Trap
Written by max collins
Suffocate from lack of stimulation
Television time
Gonna break with every bead of sweat
My heart hate seems to climb
My friend and I stick to the tired couches
Please pass the time
I found a dime under the corner cushion
Wishing it was some place else and so do i
Smalltown trap with dreams of breaking out
Here I sit and bake my face is breaking out
Satans in the living room choking me with apathy
Smalltown trap with dreams of breaking out
Inspire me cause if you dont I think Ill dissipate to dust
The liar in me says somethings gonna happen soon because it must
My friend and I stick to the tired couches
Please pass the time
I found a dime under the corner cushion
Wishing it was some place else and so do i
Community immunity is the shot I crave
A sleepless sleep slow motion dream wanna dig my grave
Time ticks away on the longest day
Wanna break away on the longest day

This Must Be Heaven
Jon lind, jeffrey cohen & nicky brown
When I was much younger
It used to happen every night
I had a dream about a city dressed in lights
And there were friends of mine
I saw them time after time
But I never knew their names
And darling I swear
I saw you there
I know it sounds insane
Sweet dreams of a child forgotten so easy
I needed your smile to bring it all back to me
I see all of my life as the road that brought me here
Must be something went right
I just know when youre near
(chorus)
This must be heaven
Have I found it what Ive been looking for
This must be heaven
Have I finally stumbled through the door
How could I have doubted
I guess I must have lost my place
You turned on the light
And I saw my life
Reflected in your face
Sweet dreams of a child forgotten so easy oh yeah
I needed your smile to bring it all back to me
I see all of my life as the road that brought me here
Must be something went right
I just know when youre near
(repeat chorus)
And I always knew that there was something more
Come closer to me now
You fill me up Im overflowing
Come closer to me now
Come hold me tight and dont let go
(repeat chorus)
You fill me up girl
You fill me up and Im overflowing
This must be heaven
Have I found what Ive been living for
This must be heaven
Have I finally stumbled through the door
This must be heaven
Have I found what Ive been looking for
This must be heaven
And I always knew that there were something more

Last nite I dreamed of T.S. Eliot
welcoming me to the land of dream
Sofas couches fog in England
Tea in his digs Chelsea rainbows
curtains on his windows, fog seeping in
the chimney but a nice warm house
and an incredibly sweet hooknosed
Eliot he loved me, put me up,
gave me a couch to sleep on,
conversed kindly, took me serious
asked my opinion on Mayakovsky
I read him Corso Creeley Kerouac
advised Burroughs Olson Huncke
the bearded lady in the Zoo, the
intelligent puma in Mexico City
6 chorus boys from Zanzibar
who chanted in wornout polygot
Swahili, and the rippling rythyms
of Ma Rainey and Vachel Lindsay.
On the Isle of the Queen
we had a long evening's conversation
Then he tucked me in my long
red underwear under a silken
blanket by the fire on the sofa
gave me English Hottie
and went off sadly to his bed,
Saying ah Ginsberg I am glad
to have met a fine young man like you.
At last, I woke ashamed of myself.
Is he that good and kind? Am I that great?
What's my motive dreaming his
manna? What English Department
would that impress? What failure
to be perfect prophet's made up here?
I dream of my kindness to T.S. Eliot
wanting to be a historical poet
and share in his finance of Imagery-
overambitious dream of eccentric boy.
God forbid my evil dreams come true.
Last nite I dreamed of Allen Ginsberg.
T.S. Eliot would've been ashamed of me.
