They Have Struck The Motherlode
Few can placate by folly.
With an appeasing done,
To quench and finalize...
What arises that may disturb.
However...
Those who are comedic,
May succeed temporarily.
But the ones gifted,
With psychiatry as a profession...
May find today,
They have struck the motherlode...
Of unending fortune.
With appointments to have folks laid out,
On leather couches forever.

Soldier Of Fortune
laid my weapons down
today, had one too many
days of spite.
laid my hands down
today, they carressed
one head too few.
laid my soul down
today, had I only been
wiser. Sooner...
Laid my body down
today. I ain't gonna be
nobody's soldier no more.

Everybody believes in psychiatry; it's supposed to be for our own good. Let psychiatry prove that anybody has an illness, and I'd concede, but there is no physical proof.

To Be Young Gifted And Black
(1969) nina simone, weldon irvine jr
To be young, gifted and black,
Oh what a lovely precious dream
To be young, gifted and black,
Open your heart to what I mean
In the whole world you know
There are billion boys and girls
Who are young, gifted and black,
And thats a fact!
Young, gifted and black
We must begin to tell our young
Theres a world waiting for you
This is a quest thats just begun
When you feel really low
Yeah, theres a great truth you should know
When youre young, gifted and black
Your souls intact
Young, gifted and black
How I long to know the truth
There are times when I look back
And I am haunted by my youth
Oh but my joy of today
Is that we can all be proud to say
To be young, gifted and black
Is where its at

In Memory Of The Late G. C. Of Montreal
The earth was flooded in the amber haze
That renders so lovely our autumn days,
The dying leaves softly fluttered down,
Bright crimson and orange and golden brown,
And the hush of autumn, solemn and still,
Brooded o’er valley, plain and hill.
Yet still from that scene with rare beauty rife
And the touching sweetness of fading life,
From glowing foliage and sun bright ray,
My gaze soon mournfully turned away
To rest, instead, on a new made grave,
Enshrouding a heart true, loyal and brave.
At rest for aye! Cold and pulseless now
That high throbbing breast and calm, earnest brow;
Laid down forever the quick, gifted pen
That toiled but for God and his fellow men;
Silent that voice, free from hatred or ruth,
Yet e’er boldly raised in the cause of truth.
For the prize of our faith grateful he proved,
Breaking from ties and from scenes once loved,
From rank and fortune, and the lures of pride,
That tempt the gifted on every side,
To devote his genius—his pen of fire—
To aims more holy and themes far higher.
He was true to the land he had made his home,
And true to the grand old faith of Rome,
At whose feet he laid powers rarer than gold,
As knights laid their lances and shields of old,—
That Church on whose loving maternal breast
He peacefully sank to eternal rest.
Oh! no tears for him who passed away
Ere frame or spirit knew touch of decay,
Ere time had deadened one feeling warm,
Or his genius robbed of one single charm.
As he was when death struck, his image shall dwell
In the countless hearts that loved him so well.

Raging Fortune
O raging Fortune's withering blast
Has laid my leaf full low, O!
O raging Fortune's withering blast
Has laid my leaf full low, O!
My stem was fair, my bud was green,
My blossom sweet did blow, O!
The dew fell fresh, the sun rose mild,
And made my branches grow, O!
But luckless Fortune's northern storms
Laid a' my blossoms low, O!
But luckless Fortune's northern storms
Laid a' my blossoms low, O!

Journey Into Lovesmacked Adulthood
for gifted young minds
from nurturing families
childhood years may be easy
journey through childhood
journey through teenage years
may be continuous joy ride
some gifted students
never endure problems
at school fortune smiles
therefore entry into adulthood
may come as quite a shook
adversity has taught no lessons
in a nutshell
it may be rather difficult
to study work abroad
difficult year or study
both chance variant happen
par for course life lesson
life not study
poses the problem
for gifted minds
since the gifted mind
never had much
problem with schools
thus when the gifted
are doing exactly
exactly what they want
what they absolutely love
they find no hardship in it
thus beware intensity love
fatal may be danger love
love may be a hurricane
cupid leaves lovesmacked

Only My Wealth
Only heaven, only mist, my sacred fortune
Is ceasing to be, opening now into good fellowship.
I have meanings, too many friends,
I bless each when they arrive;
But then a sacred fortune returns,
I fear this occasion of the night
When they stare into me, and see me.
Offering me new heaven, all of the school of learning,
They insult the grades of my living
When the sacred fortune disappears
For a time.
What is this foam or leather? It is my luck.
It is my hair when I look in the mirror,
The locks carry meaning, but no!
I find in my reflection a story,
A story of a sacred fortune:
It is ignorance of my wealth.

Some People Are Just Lucky
What, if anything, in a tomorrow wished,
Is guaranteed?
If the ability to experience the 'now' today,
Is an activity done that can be achieved.
Besides procrastination?
And many daily do that AND succeed.
Too often it is heard by some,
What they can not do...
Because there is no time to find.
Or funds to wine and dine themselves!
As if in a 'tomorrow'...
A lottery win will come to change their minds.
However,
Explain this to me...
What, if anything, in a tomorrow wished,
Is guaranteed?
If the ability to experience the 'now' today,
Is an activity done that can be achieved.
Besides procrastination?
And many daily do that AND succeed.
And why do those who seem to be in sacrificial mode,
Are always considered the ones who are lucky...
When working hard all their lives,
Creating their own opportunities.
'I never see those folks out socializing anywhere.
And they always look tired and haggard! '
~I wonder why? ~
'Maybe they stay home laying on the couch.
Watching too much TV? '
~That's what I do.
I don't look like that.
In fact, the doctor told me I was getting fat.
And I know I keep active.~
'Yeah,
Some people are just lucky.'

Believe And Succeed
If you believe in what you do
you will succeed in it
come today or tomorrow.
Success is always something
everyone else seems to have,
but if you believe in yourself
then you will succeed.
Whether it be money or friends
or whatever you want.
To succeed you must first believe.

Fame And Fortune
Sittin' in the back of a limousine, feelin' just like a king
All the girls come runnin' to you, you're the latest thing
Sittin' up there at the top of the charts, lookin' like Mr. Cool
You take all the money, steal their hearts, they'll come runnin' to you
Your fame and your fortune, look what it brought you
All your fame and your fortune, you better take a look around
With your fame and your fortune, careful who you talk to
Or the fame and your fortune, watch it all tumble down, yeah, oh listen now
Now you're lookin' for inspiration, somethin' to say
When you find that it don't come easy, you find them running away
You had it all in the palm of your hand, and let it slip away
You made it big, ooh so big, and then you threw it all away
All your fame and your fortune, look what it brought you
Fame and your fortune, hey you better take another look
At your fame and your fortune, it set you up, then it caught you
Fame and your fortune, surely gonna let you down, hey tell me now
(Solo)
All your fame and your fortune, look what it brought you
Take your fame and your fortune, wait and take a look around
For your fame and your fortune, who do you talk to
'Bout your fame and your fortune, as it all comes tumbling down
Fame and your fortune, fame and your fortune, yes all come tumbling down
Fame and your fortune, fame and your fortune, all comes tumbling down...

We'll Soon Be Dust
Heaven knows we'll soon be dust
And your wealth shall all be lost.
.
Who could admit the folly on Olympus?
Who could quench forever the
thirst of Zeus' sexual lust.
Who could stop Hera from
being so jealous?
Why should Hades be so greedy.
All these I do not know.
But a man must learn to extend
his love.
For tomorrow, there shall be no
World we could call our own.

Walking In My Shoes
i would tell you about the things
They put me through
The pain i've been subjected to
But the lord himself would blush
The countless feasts laid at my feet
Forbidden fruits for me to eat
But i think your pulse would start to rush
Now i'm not looking for absolution
Forgiveness for the things i do
But before you come to any conclusions
Try walking in my shoes
You'll stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments i kept
If you try walking in my shoes
Morality would frown upon
Indecency looked down upon
The scapegoat fate's made of me
But i promise now, my judge and jurors
My intentions couldn't have been purer
My case is easy to see
I'm not looking for a clearer conscience
Peace of mind after what i've been through
And before we talk of any repentance
Try walking in my shoes
You'll stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments i kept
If you try walking in my shoes
Try walking in my shoes
Now i'm not looking for absolution
Forgiveness for the things i do
But before you come to any conclusions
Try walking in my shoes
You'll stumble in my footsteps
Keep the same appointments i kept
If you try walking in my shoes

Walking Through the Upper East Side
All over the district, on leather couches
& brocade couches, on daybeds
& 'professional divans,' they are confessing.
The air is thick with it,
the ears of analysts must be sticky.
Words fill the air above couches & hover there
hanging like smog. I imagine
impossible Steinberg scrolls,
unutterable sounds suspended in inked curlicues
while the Braque print & the innocuous Utrillo
look on look on look on.
My six analysts for example-
the sly Czech who tucked his shoelaces
under the tongues of his shoes,
the mistress of social work with orange hair,
the famous old german who said:
'You sink, zerefore you are,'
the bouncy American who loved to talk dirty,
the bitchy widow of a famous theoretician,
& another-or was it two?-I have forgotten-
they rise like a Greek chorus in my dreams.
They reproach me for my messy life.
They do not offer to refund my money.
& the others-siblings for an hour or so-
ghosts whom I brushed in & out of the door.
Sometimes the couch was warm from their bodies.
Only our coats knew each other,
rubbing shoulders in the dark closet.

Just for today...
Just for today I will start my day the right way
Just for today I will pray on my knees
Just for today I will be thankful for all my treasures
Just for today I will lean more into HIS understanding
Just for today I will be confidant and share my heart
Just for today I will not be afraid
Just for today I will Love myself unconditionally
just for today I will extend grace to all I know
Just for today I will be BOLD and Courageous
Just for today I will share my hopes and dreams
Just for today I will listen to others as well...
and just for today I will help others succeed.
Just for today I will accept myself for who I am
Just for today I will work on my gifts...and
Just for today I will extend a hand to a fellow man
Just for today I will know God put me on this earth to Give
