Giving parties is a trivial avocation, but it pays the dues for my union card in humanity.

It's like there was the Union, and then there's the Union Management. In some of the strikes that I covered when I saw the strike starting to break, wasn't necessarily when Management was giving in, more so than when the strikers were at odds with the Union Management.

I Hate Christmas Parties
I hope it snows this week
A snowflake on your cheek
Would make this Christmas so beautiful
But that would just bring the pain,
Because things cant stay the same
These holidays wont be wonderful
I look under the tree, but theres nothing to see
Cause its a broken heart that youre giving me
I cant figure you out
Is this what Christmas is all about?
Cause its a broken heart that youre giving me
I dont want to talk, Im sick of all this talking
A broken heart wrapped up in a box
Theres tear drops in my stocking
I look under the tree, but theres nothing to see
Cause its a broken heart, that youre giving me
I cant figure you out
Is this what Christmas is all about?
Cause its a broken heart that youre giving me
I hate Christmas parties
You offer me some punch, but I just shrug
I hate Christmas parties
You and the cookie tray, both hear me say
Bah Humbug
Falalalalalalalalala Falalalalalalalalalala lalalalalalalalalala(2x)
I look under the tree, but theres nothing to see
Cause its a broken heart that youre giving me
I cant figure you out
Is this what Christmas is all about?
Cause its a broken heart that youre giving me
I look under the tree, but theres nothing to see
Cause its a broken heart that youre giving me

Less than 8 percent of private sector workers belonged to a union in 2004, and, overall, only 12.5 percent of American workers carry a union card - down from about one-third of workers in labor's heydays in the 1950s.

Giving It All Away
Writers: leo sayer & david courtney
I paid all my dues so I picked up my shoes
I got up and walked away
Oh, I was just a boy
Nobody else to blame...
Ive worked hard and failed
Now all I can say is
I threw it all away
Oh, I was just a boy
Giving it all away...
Sail away, sail away,
Ooh, I know better now, I know better now
Giving it all away
Ooh, I know better now, I know better now
Ive given it all away...
Went out in the world -- too much for my nerves
Only myself to blame
Oh, I was just a boy
Nobody else to blame...
Ive done all I can, now its out of my hands
Stand on my head and say
Oh, I was just a boy
Giving it all away...

No, the Mirror Is Not Broken
Trivial
A proclamation left unheard
A nihilist facing charges of murder
Trivial
A prayer left unanswered
An atheist born into the world
Trivial
Brought beneath a feet of debt
Pushed to the edge
I am the answer but nobody will sway
Not my God, for he is dead
Not my family, for they are miles away
Not my lover, for she hates me
I can see the end of the earth
There is an onslaught of miss-happenings
It would seem that these
Are
Ones which will never come to life
Trivial

Union City Blue
What are we gonna do?
Union Union Union City blue
Tunnel to the other side
It becomes daylight
I say he's mine
Oh power, passion plays a double hand
Union union union city man
Arrive climb up four flights to the orange side
Rearrange my mind
In turquoise Union Union Union City blue
Skyline passion Union City blue
Power, passion plays a double hand
Union union union city man
I say he's mine
I have a plan
I say he's my Union City man
What are we gonna do?
Union Union Union City blue

On the day of Ramzan
On the day of Ramzan
Muslims all over the world
Completed a month of
Fasting-throughout-the-day
More than anything else
They enjoyed the pleasure
Of being kind to others
Of being concerned with the welfare of the unknown
Of availing the opportunity of giving
Of reaching out to help the poor
Of having understood the pains of others
Of sharing whatever they have
Of discovering new ways of being useful to others
Of feeding the fast
Of capturing the gains of fasting
Of being considerate and passionate
Of being resolved and determined
Of having felt the oneness of humanity
Of realizing the worth of healthy eating
Of loving and caring
Of knowing not pain in giving
Of knowing what all they gain is only for giving
Of giving without being asked for
Of recognizing that giving is joyful, and not holding
Of having stepped ahead in the spiritual path
Of enlightenment and thus enlightening others
Let others too
Learn this art of giving
So that the future world
Finds a humanity
Enjoying a harmonious living
In peaceful co-existence
Every one appreciating the concerns of
Every other one

50-card Steve
There goes 3-card Mike
with all he can fight
when he left yesterday
he shoulda went right
And theres 5-card Billy
with 7-card Jack
they both get silly
smokin' that crack
And Alabama Chuck
has been down on his luck
he shoulda played Razz
instead of 7-card Stud
But they all have something in common
when they all pack up and leave-
They never had a clue
while playin' with 50-card Steve,
that he always had you
with that Ace up his sleeve.

Life (Life Poem)
Birth gives life with an awful
Closeness, since today I
Sent a 1st birthday card
To a part of me, that
I gave to my son.
It crossed in the
Post with his
Card which
Read…
'Ian donates high quality kidney to his son'
In
Giving
We receive
More than we
Can ever expect
When we do what
Comes naturally to a
Parent in this cycle of
Life and living and love.

Union Man
Im proud to a union man
I make those meetings when I can, yeah
I pay my dues ahead of time
When the benefits come Im last in line, yeah.
Im proud to be a union man.
Every fourth friday at 10 am
Theres a local meeting of the a f of m, yeah!
This meeting will now come to order
Is there any new business?
Yeah, I think live music are better
Bumper stickers should be issued.
What was that?
live music is better bumper stickers
Should be issued
The gentleman says
live music is better bumper stickers
Should be issued
All in favor of what he said
Signify by sayin ay
Ay!
If, however, you are opposed
Signify by saying no.
Im proud to be a union man.

The Amazing Power of Humanity
People here, people there
People using their power everywhere
Humanity toward others
With a humbleness not seen by many
The power, the excitment seen on faces when people give and recieve
It's so bloody tremendous!
We all have that power to provide to others
But not all are giving, some take
Some really show it's fake
It's amazing, the power of humanity
Being humble without a grumble
Even if you stumble
It's OK
Never give up, humanity needs you
For with your power, you can break though
The strength that you show provides many others with comfort
A feeling that they too can grow
Humanity, the power, the freeing
The true caring, wow, what a passionate feeling
If only more would show such compassion for others
Maybe then humans could all truly become one
That's the true amazing power of humanity

For The Love Of You
Well, well well well
Drifting on a memory
Ain't no place I'd rather be than with you, yes
Loving you, well well well
Day will make the way for night
All we need is candlelight
And a song, ooh, soft and long
Well well well, like to be
We're alone with a love unlike no other
Sad to see, a new horizon slowly coming into view
I want to be living for the love of you
All that I'm giving is for the love of you
Lovely as a ray of sun
That touches me when the morning comes
Feels good to me
Well, my loving me, loving me
Smoother then a gentle breeze
Blowing from my mind with ease
Soft as can be
When you're loving me, when you're loving me
I love to be
Riding the waves of love enchanted with your touch
It seems to me
We can sail together in and out of mystery
I want to be living for the love of you
All that I'm giving is for the love of you
I know that I'm living for the love of you, oh yes I do
All that I'm giving, giving is for the love of you
Paradise and heaven things can't feel as secure again
You're the key
This I see
Now and then I lose my way
Using words I try to say what I feel
Yeah, this is so real, so real
I might as well, sign my name on a card that could say it better
Time will tell
Cause it seems that I've done just about all that I can do, I can do
I want to be living for the love of you, oh yes I do
All that I'm giving is for the love of you
I wanna be living for the love of you, oh yes I do
All that I'm giving is for the love of you
Each and every day I'm living for the love of you
Said that I'm giving for the love of you

The unions claim the deck is stacked against them when it comes to labor laws, but the truth is many private and public sector workers are forced to pay union dues as a condition of their employment, yet they have little say in how the unions spend their money.

Dues
I think Im headed for a terrible accident.
Made more plans than anyone who ever paid their rent.
Im not stupid and I might be havin too much pride.
Surgeon general has determined that I may as well die.
Jesus are you watching or have you gone blind.
Evil souls are upon us and were surely runnin out of time.
Chorus
I tried religion and some holy roller steals my tenth.
In the grave yard I aint strong enough to jump the fence.
Some men they say they got more soul than both my shoes.
Makes me wonder can we ever stop payin dues.
I might be workin on a scene that I can never act.
Everybodys gonna think that my mind is cracked.
I dont care because its my right to win or lose.
Makes me wonder can we ever stop payin dues.
Crazy, am I crazy for wanting so much more.
My mind says I cant ever give up but I still cant be sure.
Chorus
Can we ever stop payin dues.
Can we ever stop payin dues.
Can we ever stop payin dues.

Card Carryin' Fool
It takes all kinds to keep
this world in place
It's a fragile balance that
let's us spin through space
So everybody's got their job to do
and girl I guess the job
I've got is cryin' over you
And I should get a gold watch
for all the years I gave
I should get some interest now
for all the dues I've paid
I don't know why I love you,
it's just the job I do
I'm your registered, certified
card carryin' fool
If I was in the army
there'd be medals that I'd get
If I ws in the circus,
at least I
