Choice be your’s, to make it happen.

Maa Durga

In Hinduism, Durga (Sanskrit: द ु र ् ग ा , Durgā , meaning 'the inaccessible'[1] or 'the invincible'; Bengali: দ ু র ্ গ া , durga) or Maa Durga (Bengali: ম া দ ু র ্ গ া , ma durga, meaning 'Mother Durga') 'one who can redeem in situations of utmost distress' is a form of Devi, the supremely radiant goddess, depicted as having ten arms, riding a lion or a tiger, carrying weapons and a lotus flower, maintaining a meditative smile, and practicing mudras, or symbolic hand gestures. An embodiment of creative feminine force (Shakti) , Durga exists in a state of svā tantrya (independence from the universe and anything/anybody else, i.e., self-sufficiency) and fierce compassion. Kali is considered by Hindus to be an aspect of Durga. Durga is also the mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya. She is thus considered the fiercer, demon-fighting form of Shiva's wife, goddess Parvati. Durga manifests fearlessness and patience, and never loses her sense of humor, even during spiritual battles of epic proportion

'Durga' love that name,
I remember the character in one of Sathyajit Ray's film Trilogy! 'Pather Panchali '
Apu and Durga share an affectionate brother-sister relationship. Durga, as the elder sister, cares for Apu with motherly affection, although she does not spare any opportunity to tease him. They share the simple joys of sitting quietly under a tree, running after the candy man who passes by ringing bells, viewing pictures in a bioscope shown by a travelling vendor, and watching a play by a travelling troupe of actors. In the evenings, they can hear the whistles of trains far away. One day they run away from home to catch a glimpse of the train. The scene depicting Apu and Durga running through Kaash fields to see the train is one of the memorable sequences in the film. While playing one day in the bushes, they discover their Aunt Indir lying dead there.Harihar, unable to earn adequately in the village, decides to travel to nearby cities to search for a better job. He promises Sarbajaya that he will return with enough money to repair their derelict house. During his absence, the family sinks even deeper into poverty. Sarbajaya grows increasingly lonely and embittered. The monsoon season approaches and storm clouds gather. One day, Durga dances playfully in the downpour for a long time. Soon she catches cold, and develops a fever. With scarce medical care available, her fever continues and eventually on a night of incessant rain and gusty winds, she dies. Harihar finally returns home and starts to show Sarbajaya what he has brought from the city. But Sarbajaya, who remains silent at first, breaks down at the feet of her husband, and Harihar screams as he discovers that he has lost his only daughter. The family decides to leave the village and their ancestral home. As they start packing, Apu finds the necklace that Durga had earlier denied having stolen. He throws it into a pond. The film ends with Apu and his parents riding a slow ox-cart to their new destination.

Blow into my heart to soothe much as you can
For summer is too hot burning much to tan

Wait o'land I'm already in the process
Moved moist to breeze and cool the best in excess

Do it soon o' breeze more and more for I'm parched
Get cooled from the ocean to dab my space scorched

O'earth, wait, up I'm pushed to get the clouds grouped
They will hide the sun, rain will then calm us coped

Green Couplets 02 Touchy Composition

Between two cotyledons— plant grows with a bud!
With two lines— couplets come into flower with an idea.
Sometimes, two lines may be more powerful than two hundred lines.
Small verses like couplets are really beautiful.

They speak and touch with peace— as Poems for Life.

Couplet— I
Watering rain on the leaves
Orchid plant mutely sleeps

Couplet— II
Under the pillow raining night
Memory coins may or might!

Couplet— III
All green buds grows yellow
Plant or animal must follow!

Couplet— IV
Shooting stars proclaimed that
No one ever will be mate…

Couplet— V
How the moon came into being
The way fishes sleep and sing

Examine Yourself

Examine yourself,
Overcome your odds,
Learn for the better,
And, by loving one another;
For, we need to change everyday towards righteousness.

12th July 2012 with car number, 'E 8068 FPD';
16th July 2012 with car number, 'E 2340 DJJ';
And like the muse of the Underground Park House! !
With, number 1060 behind your car.

Examine yourself!
For, in the same land was the biggest underground cave of the world! ! However, you need righteousness to overcome your odds.

Put it back where it belongs to,
And, learn to do the right thing always;
For, changing yourself positively needs the laid down laws to back you up.

You Have Cast Me Off

I was the only one,
Who caressed your all wounds;
I was the only one, my Love!
Who with pens of my lashes,
Time and again, wrote thousands
Of couplets on your conversing eyes;
And on the land of your heart
Placed I thousand of the reflections
Of faithfulness.
Speak!
Who gave you life against the wish of death?
But what have you done?
Have You cast me off too?

Three Make a Crowd

If you nod
To my rose,
How easy it is for me
To plough the earth
And dot it all over
With a multitude...

If you consent
To live with me,
How happy
I shall be to build
A palace in mid-air
Above my thatched roof...

If only you wish
To listen to my sonnet,
How easy it is for me
To compose an epic
Of million couplets
And recite it for you
Under a moon-lit sky,
When me and you
Make a company
And the moon a crowd.

Learning Urdu

From a district near Jammu,
(Dogri stumbling through his Urdu)
he comes, the victim of a continent broken
in two in nineteen forty-seven.
He mentions the minced air he ate
while men dissolved in alphabets
of blood, in syllables of death, of hate.

'I only remember half the word
that was my village. The rest I forget.
My memory belongs to the line of blood
across which my friends dissolved
into bitter stanzas of some dead poet.'

He wanted me to sympathize. I couldn't,
I was only interested in the bitter couplets
which I wanted him to explain. He continued,

'And I who knew Mir backwards, every
couplet from the Diwan-e-Ghalib saw poetry
dissolve into letters of blood.' He

Now remembers nothing while I find Ghalib
at the crossroads of language, refusing
to move to any side, masquerading
as a beggar to see my theatre of kindness.

Kake-Jisku Ghazal

Nature’s seams of seasons en plein air sur terre
orbit of harmony en plain air sur terre

Primavera, our eyes rise for your coming
long distance traveler en plein air sur terre

dallying with each stroll through the country side
genesis/life’s rebirth en plein air sur terre

Summer you burn away our sins of passion
fire dances hovering en plein air sur terre

vaporizing our dreaming/hazy vision
twisting, rising prayers en plein air sur terre

Autumn shedding all our leaves multicolored
final ashen harvest en plein air sur terre

Mother Earth’s savoring charms ceasing to flow
all the seasons sucked dry en plein air sur terre

sun laying its head on a cold snow pillow
hiding all the seasons en plein air sur terre

Winter/what better time/tell us your secrets
in white we will be clothed en plein air sur terre

petal offerings/revolving festivals
kaki-jiku hanging en plein sur terre

that we be cleansed in your blanket of meanings
purifying rituals en plein air sur terre

* This is a Ghazal. The following explanation is quoted from poets.org from the Academy of American Poets. “A Ghazal is composed of at least five couplets - - and typically no more than fifteen - - that are structurally, thematically, and emotionally autonomous.. Each line of the poem must be of the same length, though meter in not imposed in English. The first couplet introduces a scheme, made up of a rhyme followed by a refrain. Subsequent couplets pick up the same scheme in the second line only, repeating the refrain and rhyme in the second line with both lines of the first stanza. The final couplet usually includes the poet’s signature, referring to the author in the first or third person, and frequently including the poet’s own name or a derivation of its meaning.”

“Traditionally invoking melancholy, love, longing, and metaphysical questions, ghazals are often sung by Iranian, Indian, and Pakistani musicians. The form has roots in seventh-century Arabia, and gained prominence in the thirteenth-and fourteenth-century thanks to such Persian poets as Rumi and Hafiz. In the eighteenth-century, the ghazal was used by poets writing in Urdu, a mix of the medieval languages of Northern India, including Persian. Among these pots, Ghalib is the recognized master.

Money animal

razor sharp cannines
that can tear through
the toughest frame
and legs that can run
faster than any animals
and the jaguar falls into
a physique to become
a jaguar and not a man

the god writes couplets
for souls to choose
what they would love to be

a brain that can be
worked to do wonders
but his legs, his hands
his phsiques are no match
for even a horse

a permanent home for cover
he carries his house here, there and
everywhere, his food in the streams
and rivers and the soul thinking of
only an ever ready house plunges for it
to be our slow walking turtle, tortoise

two wings to fly away from attacks
a voice to mersmerise the world
and the field for food and the soul
plunges into them to be eagles, thrush
and sparrows to carry our fantasies to fly

poor soul, the mind
that could do wonders
thrown to the winds

poorer still, the soul
who plunges into a man
who then chooses
to carry a flag that shouts
money above all else

and there an animal
runs here, there, everywhere
for the papers he thinks
could fly him everywhere
buy home, buy food,

they buy almost anything
couplets written by his
own homo sapiens

the mind that can do wonders
now lies like other species
getting a lot less than they should get

if only this poem will wake
up that mind to let the man
realise he is more than a money animal
a limitation he imposes on himself
a gravest short change

The Barren Fancy

THE BARREN FANCY
by Muhammad Hameed Shahid

She said;

'Our love is static...

And stagnation

Breeds putridity'

From this fancy's rib

Was born the eve of novice desire

Why then should we not,

Alter our roots.

And...

Now that

In consequence of this separation,

Putridity emits its vapours,

It is proved

That the seed of fancy

Has been infertile

Since pre-eternity

(English rendering from Urdu by Bashir H. Nazim)

Love can't be stagnant and it can't emit vapours
'She' has captioned her emotion as she prefers.
Then whats it, which can cause an intention to even alter the roots?
The poem clearly talks about that subject and its repercussions.
Love is not complicated whereas lust is.

Good read indeed... Thank you for this post, dear poet.

Old is Gold

Couplets of Kabir
The wandering fakir,
Full of spiritual fervour
and universal appeal.

What about Shakespeare?
Wisdom so rare,
With ingenuity, celebrates,
Universal truth and beauty
In his works and sonnets.

Have you read
Auguries of Innocence
By William Blake?
Just four opening lines…
Sum up life’s essence.

A short poem—epigram
What a clever twist at the end...
Coleridge rightly extolled:
Its body brevity,
And wit, its soul.

These great minds,
So concise
Profound and precise,
Hit the bull’s eye.

Espoused truths
In a language
Even the uninitiated
Could grasp

And be held
In captivity
By their simplicity,
For life.

Rules are meant to be bent
So I have used a cliché,
And called my poem -
Old is gold.
It best sums up,
What had to be told.

Tablets of Jet

You think that you only
Weep in remembering,
Nothing I’ve told you
Would hint at regret,
But I have the candle
We burnt at our offerings,
That wreathed its despairings
On tablets of jet.

I wrote and I rhymed you
By sky and by water,
I loved and desired you
In metre and song,
But needs seem to blind you,
Enrage, and remind you
That love is one garment
You’ve never put on.

You lost us forever
Then bled at our wounding,
Cast back every metre
Of love I had penned;
But sent me sad couplets
Composed by dead poets
That brood on disasters
Like us – in the end.

Now my wound is deeper
And my wound is wider,
I live with it always
And always it bleeds;
For lines of my poems
Are stubbed in your ashtrays
And songs of your goings
Are burnt on my reeds.
