R.i.p. 1947 - 201?

The years misspent sped, span
two distant worlds which man
in his own image made.
Impatience one displayed.
The other, though, began
to turn the tables played
cards which the first dismayed.

First communistic clan
supremacy sought, ran
from peoples’ hopes, obeyed
itself, then fast did fade.
Then came with WAN and LAN
an internet whose braid
spurred education, trade.

Pollution corn crops, bran,
made scarce as watering can.
Democracy decayed
though most lip-service paid
to freedom’s flag. ‘The Plan’
freethinking had to ban,
as most men grew afraid
of diff’rences, - few stayed!

I write here while I can,
while my last moments fan
Life’s embers which, when weighed,
no feather tip. Beard greyed,
regretting much, I scan
the Past which, heedless, ran
after ‘progress’ - jade
which many hopes waylayed.

As flowers fade

I woke to find a world in bloom,
I grew, felt feelings could not jade,
matured, to principles assume, -
synapses slowed, eyes dimmed, hair greyed,
parade band silent, spent perfume.
I passed as fast as flowers fade.

Although decayed, or dust-in-tomb,
I trust Man’s lust may be repaid
in kind to meet deservèd doom
to compensate for way mislaid
where there for ethics little room
seems granted, - Nature disobeyed.

When stealth and wealth, climatic gloom,
waves stimulate, through greed displayed,
consumers rash themselves consume,
ignoring signals strong, must wade
while scavenging through viral womb
tale rats for scraps pollution sprayed...

Native Freedom

Floating freely through life's breeze
before against scale's feather weighed
soul should sing true, face unafraid
existence's uncertainties.
The poet cannot paint a frieze
of fixed beliefs, of creeds g[r]own greyed,
when round life's reefs fresh foam is sprayed
to welcome ephemerities
whose very evanescence sees
who'd seize the day is well repaid!
There is no rule to be obeyed,
authority which whims would freeze.
From flight to further flight the mind
Must [l]ink think/thought, before/behind.

Thus voice for choice which 'we may' frees
sloughs off old skin, traditions staid,
won't be sidetracked or waylayed
by top/down frown authorities
which from their own survival trees
hang bitter fruit, won't be gainsaid,
but self-perpetuate man made
lop-sided laws which rob hope's keys
from prostrate puppets on string knees.
Blind servitude won't make the grade,
nor may the suicidal blade
which would wield freedom's enemies.
Open options underlined
by understanding freedom find.

Hic Jacet the Balance of Power - Acrostic Sonnet

So the scene shifts at last, seventy years have past,
Only the nuclear threat tempers the joys we feel.
Vain seem toil, tears, and sweat, void the noble ideal,
Its principles the Past has swallowed. ‘Red’ is dead.
Errors were made, and vast, mainly by those who led.
There’s an important debt the Future may reveal: -
Hopes blossomed, goals were met through suffering and zeal,
Enlightened laws were passed, the poor were housed and fed.
Remember this forecast when free trade’s ugly head
Is raised, do not forget those freedoms which appeal
To us were won while yet most could not afford a meal.
And shall ‘progress’ outlast the need to butter bread?
Grant perspicacity to see how much we owe
Employing energy to help Tomorrow grow.

My thesis: far too fast the tide turns, cog-wheel tread
Against ourselves we fête in freedom’s name, - a wheel
Yet to unmask teeth, whet its appetite to steal
Basic rights still classed inalienable, and thread
Ever tighter nets entrapping liberty. We spread
Restrictions, chains we set ourselves and no ‘New Deal’
Expect. Russian roulette is played in a surreal
Gamble with living standards for those unborn, ahead.
Risks of atomic blast seem slender, but, instead
Ending the soviet may usher brash Bastille
That’s harsher than ‘Niet’ to bring mankind to heel.
Time’s bet at last is cast, - who’ll win once all is said?
Ecosystems now show pollution's jeopardy.
Democracy may grow its own worst enemy.

Convictions Conquer

New love's peak passion dreams soon seem to fade,
and step by step by custom are betrayed,
too few familiarity flee, greyed
is fragile fruit, once tempting, time decayed.
Is light too bright? Emotions unafraid
dissolve cares in shared energy displayed
day after day, night after night arrayed
as tent of gladness ever undismayed.
Take tenderness as touchstone, trust as blade,
with constancy to thwart both darkest shade
and ride self-centred, where pride hides self-made
defenses which should never be obeyed.
where soul to soul cleaves, where both man and maid
Love's courage clad convictions conquer all,
Hope heeds heart's call, can weather every squall.

Fixed To Stick On Idle

And I...
Made a pact.
To get my life,
Back...
On track.
And still you,
Chewed me away.

And I...
Took all of that back,
To feel dismayed...
And from you I stayed.
To give you space.

And 'then' you appear,
Wanting me near...
Again.
But I'm not feeling it.

And 'then' you appear,
Just to let me...
See your tears.
Dripping with words,
Of missing me.

But my heart's now fixed on idle.
Without a throttle there,
To begin...
A re-starting.

Yes my heart's now fixed to stick,
On idle.
With hopes that someone else...
Will come,
With an interest to ignite...
My love.

And I...
Made a pact.
To get my life,
Back...
On track.
And still you,
Chewed me away.

And I...
Took all of that back,
To feel dismayed...
And from you I stayed.
To give you space.

But my heart's now fixed on idle.
Without a throttle there,
To begin...
A re-starting.

Yes my heart's now fixed to stick,
On idle.
With hopes that someone else...
Will come,
With an interest to ignite...
My love.

Ballad by the Fire

Slowly I smoke and hug my knee,
The while a witless masquerade
Of things that only children see
Floats in a mist of light and shade:
They pass, a flimsy cavalcade,
And with a weak, remindful glow,
The falling embers break and fade,
As one by one the phantoms go.

Then, with a melancholy glee
To think where once my fancy strayed,
I muse on what the years may be
Whose coming tales are all unsaid,
Till tongs and shovel, snugly laid
Within their shadowed niches, grow

By grim degrees to pick and spade,
As one by one the phantoms go.

But then, what though the mystic Three
Around me ply their merry trade? --
And Charon soon may carry me
Across the gloomy Stygian glade? --

Be up, my soul! nor be afraid
Of what some unborn year may show;
But mind your human debts are paid,
As one by one the phantoms go.

ENVOY

Life is the game that must be played:
This truth at least, good friend, we know;
So live and laugh, nor be dismayed
As one by one the phantoms go.

Days of 1908

That was the year when he stayed
Without work, for a living played
Cards, or backgammon; or borrowed and never paid.

He was offered a place at a small
Stationer’s, three pounds a month. It didn’t suit him.
It was not decent pay at all.
He refused it without hesitation;
He was twenty-five, and of good education.

Two or three shillings he made, more or less.
From cards and backgammon what could a boy skim;
At the common places, the cafés of his grade,
Although he played sharply, and picked stupid players.
As for borrowing, that didn’t always come off.
He seldom struck a dollar, oftener he’d fall
To half, and sometimes as low as a shilling.

Sometimes, when he got away from the grim
Night-sitting, for a week at a time or more,
He would cool himself at the baths, with a morning swim.

The shabbiness of his clothes was tragical.
He always wore the same suit, always displayed
A suit of cinnamon brown discoloured and frayed.

O summer days of nineteen hundred and eight, I recall
The picture of you, and out of it seems to fade,
Harmoniously, that cinnamon suit discoloured and frayed.

The picture of you has preserved him
Just as he would take off, would fling down
The unworthy clothes, the mended under clothes,
And remain all naked; faultlessly beautiful; a wonder.
Uncombed and lifted up his hair was;
His limbs a little sunburnt
From the morning nakedness at the baths and on the beach.

So Afraid

My pains gone numb over these darkened years
Form a pristine lake with these falling tears
I want to change, I never will
I'm so afraid of the way I feel
A clouded mind a troubled past
Emotions concealed behind my mask
Doubt and mistrust have made me blind
Afraid of what emotions I may find
Not one friend that I could trust
Distant memories begin to rust
Afraid of regret and loss of hope
Washed up dreams left out to soak
Thoughts so clear begin to fade
For mistakes are now being paid
Inside im so afraid

The Road

I made the rising moon go back
behind the shouldering hill,
I raced along the eastern track
till time itself stood still.

The stars swarmed on behind the trees,
but I sped fast at they,
I could have made the sun arise,
and night turn back to day.

And like a long black carpet
behind the wheels, the night
unrolled across the countryside,
but all ahead was bright.

The fence-posts whizzed along wires
like days that fly too fast,
and telephone poles loomed up like years
and slipped into the past.

And light and movement, sky and road
and life and time were one,
while through the night I rushed and sped,
I drove towards the sun.

Decisions

DECISIONS

When choice, once clear, uncertain grows,
when confidence is in the throes
of conflict as the hands of fate
turn counter-clockwise, retrograde,
decisions must be made.

As lost hands may not be replayed
act, don’t delay, and fears may fade,
so plan ahead, anticipate
life’s pattern to its ebbs and flows
key in, diverting current woes.

When doubt, once abstract, shadows throws
to dim the spirit’s inner flows,
the mind must not procrastinate,
though expectations seem betrayed
where visibility has greyed.

Decisions must in time be made.
Tomorrowrs no safe barricade!
As rates of Change accelerate
Chance cannot, even if it chose,
avert Time’s arrows, flighty b[l]ows.

No door remains forever closed.
Internal or external foes
undermine the strongest state.
Initiative displayed
may turn the sharpest blade.

Decisions, if delayed,
beyond all reason Reason trade
for self destruction, - taken late
may compromise, harm, or foreclose
free choice, voice suffocate.

Theory

Some vital aspect split our primate past
and heralded the rise of modern man,
The experts scan the intervening span
to pinpoint where exact the dice were cast.
An upright stance gave scope of spaces vast
and language lent ability to plan,
With strong-thumbed hands the use of tools began
and progress surged with fire's inflaming blast.
Yet these and more are surplus to our breed,
a single human feature formed our shape,
Dissatisfaction blazed us to the lead
and from a savage world we made escape.
Genetic restlessness and need did seed
triumphant man; The Discontented Ape.

Utterly Prophetic

Computers can get so advanced
They could predict for Man
With software that has been enhanced
To help fulfil this plan...

And so it was, three decades past,
Elijah Five was made,
So that the nations knew at last
With data it displayed.

Technicians printed off each sheet
As it poured out its reams...
For days and weeks until complete,
Man's hopes and dreams and schemes...

At first they made no sense at all,
As if they were in code,
Great expectations seemed to fall,
Though data overflowed...

Then all at once, one guy declared,
He thought he understood...
And when his findings he had shared,
Elijah Six made good...

The printers started up once more
For hours, days and weeks...
Till everybody knew the score...
The truths each nation seeks...

The New World Order started soon,
Fulfilling what was known,
At first they thought it was a boon,
But then new truths were shown...

Elijah Seven, Eight and Nine
Expressed their grave despairs,
Yet everybody towed the line,
Despite their fervent prayers...

Elijah Ten was not so grim,
He turned their hopes around,
But cynics said Man's hopes were slim
When Antichrist was crowned...

They didn't recognise this man
Until it was too late...
By then they couldn't stop or ban
And so, succumbed to Fate...

But God looked down... and Christ was sent...
A second chance to give...
To save the world no President
Could ever help us with...

Elijahs Five to Ten had done
What none had done before...
They made Mankind forget God's Son,
His future to ignore...

Of all rules, here's the Golden Rule:
God knows from first to last...
Yes, God knows all and God sees all,
The future and the past...

Freedom To Serve

Become God’s servant to be free, when you go through Calvary,
The only place on earth indeed, when as a servant you are freed;
Freed through the Blood of Christ, from the bondage of this life,
A Freedom only known to man, through God’s Redemptive Plan.

God bought us out of slavery, with precious Blood from Calvary,
Purchased from the market of sin; granting freedom deep within,
Freedom by us that wasn’t sought, which the Lord for us bought,
Offering His Son, our Lord Jesus, as payment made for all of us.

When we’re freed, we’re then sent, by our Lord, as God’s servant,
Here in service to the Son of God, on this earth that we now trod,
No longer slaves in bondage to sin, we delight in service for Him,
Now as we serve the King of kings, our new freedom in Him rings.

We’re now free to serve our Lord, as Christ’s Body, in one accord,
Now serving with the mind of Christ, for God gave us all New Life,
Eternal Life, which we don’t deserve, which is why we gladly serve,
By God’s Grace, with freedom, as God’s servants in His Kingdom.

All because God paid that price, when His Son became a sacrifice,
Christ, Who had no reason to die, served as a Lamb, for you and I,
To grant us real freedom my friend, that from The Lord has no end,
As we come to The Lord Jesus, to serve eternally in God’s Service.

Hymn 120

Faith of things unseen.

Heb. 11

Faith is the brightest evidence
Of things beyond our sight,
Breaks through the clouds of flesh and sense,
And dwells in heav'nly light.

It sets times past in present view,
Brings distant prospects home,
Of things a thousand years ago,
Or thousand years to come.

By faith we know the worlds were made
By God's almighty word;
Abram, to unknown countries led,
By faith obeyed the Lord.

He sought a city fair and high,
Built by th' eternal hands,
And faith assures us, though we die,
That heav'nly building stands.

Flag Song

Dear flag! Old flag! O, the blue and white,
Floating in the years long gone,
How our pulses beat,
Mocking at defeat,
Following the standard on.

Proud flag, New flag, purple and the gold
Shouting past the legions go,
Carried onward fleet
Knowing no retreat,
Flouting at the winds that blow.

Old flag, New flag, colours of the sky
Gleaming as the seasons roll,
Morning's blue attire,
Sunset's purple fire,
Golden braid on eve's dark stole.

Clear voice, young voice, ringing through the school,
Fluting in the sweet time flown,
Youth so debonair,
May not linger there,
Youngsters are to grey men grown.

Old school, kind school, fostering the weak,
Never brighter days have shone,
Boys from evil stayed,
Gallant men are made,
Following the Standard on.

Heart is tiny, Hopes are high

Heart is tiny, Hopes are high
On top of the world, wants to fly.

Wants to surf, in mid of the ocean;
Wants to climb, Highest the mountain;
Always willing, to touch the sky.
Heart is tiny, Hopes are high

Wants to shine, like a bright star;
Wants to race in, the worlds' best car;
Lighter as feather, wants to glide.
Heart is tiny, Hopes are high

All things happen, On its commands;
Every thing comes to, When it demands;
Whole beauty of world, wants in eyes.
Heart is tiny, Hopes are high

Better if it does some good deed
Helps the poor and who are in need
Accepts the truth and denies the lies.
Heart is tiny, Hopes are high

Different World

You cant stop a man from learning
I could write the book of love
Captured moments there
Between me and you
Then I had the thought of leavin
It was a voice inside my head
Telling me I got to have the strength
To see it through
And I know its
Gonna break your heart
And I know its
Gonna break your heart
Im living in a different world
And as I slip away
I see you fade to black and white
Im living in a different world
With all my hopes and dreams
I drift off in the night
Im alone but Im not lonely
I found something that I never had
Laying back in the easy chair
Is not the life for me
You think Im your one and only
But you gamble with a restless man
In the end Ive found the way
That we can both be free
Im living in a different world
And as I slip away
I see you fade to black and white
Im living in a different world
With all my hopes and dreams
I disappear into the night
Im living in a different world
And as I slip away
I see you fade to black and white
Im living in a different world
With all my hopes and dreams
Im living in a different world
And as I slip away
Im living in a different world
With all my hopes and dreams
I disappear into the night

Autumn's Sonnet

The winds blow lightly in the silence,
It's raining with sad leaves in quiet tears,
Lost rays dream of light, hot impatience,
Upper tired branches slowly break their fears.

It's autumn. Hopes are dash in the dark fog,
Colors fade, and the pink flowers die,
The moonlight disappears in choking smog,
I began to roar I began to cry,

I choose to sing together with the wind,
To cry with the golden leaves through the rain,
To embrace a ray of light, to be kind,
To feel the great sadness and flower's pain.

It's autumn, from her wealth of hopes we reap,
A new time to laugh, a new time to weep.
