There once was a man on a diet,
Who was hoping to keep it all quiet,
But it came to the crunch
When he guzzled his lunch:
In his stomach there broke out a riot.

The Riot
You may think my life is quiet.
I find it full of change,
An ever-varied diet,
As piquant as 'tis strange.
Wild thoughts are always flying,
Like sparks across my brain,
Now flashing out, now dying,
To kindle soon again.
Fine fancies set me thrilling,
And subtle monsters creep
Before my sight unwilling:
They even haunt my sleep.
One broad, perpetual riot
Enfolds me night and day.
You think my life is quiet?
You don't know what you say.

Breaking both of her feet

Fat Man Blues
I'm getting fatter and fatter,
It's filling me with shame,
But it doesn't really matter,
It's the CALORIES that are to blame! !
So what if I drink a lot of wine
And munch too much when I eat my lunch -
Chocolate is so divine
And I like pork crackling to crunch!
It isn't fair that I'm so fat,
I never wanted to look like that! !
My doctor warns me that I may die
But I've got bigger fish to fry!
I wouldn't like to be thin as a rake
(That's why I eat a lot of cake) ,
Give me roast beef and Yorkshire pud,
Did anything ever taste so good?
To hell with going on a diet,
Gimme some bacon and I'll fry it! !

Student Demonstration Time
Starting out with berkeley free speech
And later on at peoples park
The winds of change fanned into flames
Student demonstrations spark
Down to isla vista where police felt so harassed
They called the special riot squad of the l. a. county sheriff
Well theres a riot going on
Theres a riot going on
Theres a riot going on
Student demonstration time
The violence spread down south to where jackson state brothers
Learned not to say nasty things about southern policemens mothers
Nothing much was said about it and really next to nothing done
The pen is mightier than the sword, but no match for a gun
Well theres a riot going on
Theres a riot going on
Well theres a riot going on
cause its student demonstration time
America was stunned on may 4, 1970
When rally turned to riot up at kent state university
They said the students scared the guard
Though the troops were battle dressed
Four martyrs earned a new degree
The bachelor of bullets
I know were all fed up with useless wars and racial strife
But next time theres a riot, well, you best stay out of sight
Well theres a riot going on
Theres a riot going on
Well theres a riot going on
Student demonstration time
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Its student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Its student demonstration
Stay away when theres a riot going on
Student demonstration

Coffee Dream
Although it’s only one hour till lunch -
my stomach won’t wait.
Non-stop growling for the past two hours
has gotten the best of me.
Besides, my taste buds
are ready to murder for a cup of coffee.
Should I say ‘murder’ in a courthouse?
I discovered myself in the eating lounge
with a coffee machine that still doesn’t work.
How unfair that I can’t leave the building
for a quick cup of coffee till lunch.
So, I resort to having the small salad and orange
that was to be my lunch.
Still, I want that coffee!
I’ll take it boiling hot
right out of the pot.
So now I look forward
to when then release us for lunch.
I plan to run down the street and get
a very large cup of coffee -
maybe two or three.
I desperately need my caffeine fix for today.
Grapefruit Diet
Whos that waddlin down the street
Its just me cause I love to eat
Fudge and twinkies and deviled ham
Whos real flabby? yes, I am!
Every picture of mes
Gotta be an aerial view
Now my doctor tells me
Theres just one thing left to do
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Throw out the pizza and beer
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Oh, get those jelly donuts out of here
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Might seem a little sever
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Im gettin tired of my big fat rear
Blow, fatty!
Well, I used to live on chocolate sauce
Made sumo wrestlers look like kate moss
Walked down an alley and I got stuck
I got more rolls than a pastry truck
When Im all done eating
I eat a little more
When I leave a room
First I gotta grease the door
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Cant have another eclair
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
I gotta decrease my derriere
Im on a grapefruit diet
Im on a grapefruit diet
Im on a grapefruit diet
No more pie now
No more creme brulee
Lay off the gravy
And souffle
No french fri-yi-yies now
No ice cream parfait
Mr. cheese nacho
Stay away
Oh I think Id sell my soul
For a triple patty melt
But I need a boomerang
When I put on my belt
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Lay off the 3 musketeers
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Until my big booty disappears
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
Eat em till theyre comin out of my ears
Grapefruit diet (diet!)
cause I havent seen my feet in years
Im on a grapefruit diet
Im on a grapefruit diet
Im on a grapefruit diet
I think Im about ready for a quarter pounder with extra cheese
I need a side order of onion rings
And dont forget to super-size that

An Alliterative Lament
One March Monday morning
A dark dismal day,
The snow slowly sleeting,
We wending our way.
Just two tired tradesmen
In life's lonely lanes,
Both thoughtlessly thinking
Of bed in our brains.
Temptation entreating us,
'Wait a wee while...
Why have you to hurry? '
It says with a smile.
But we will not wait
Or sit silently still
'Til the day's deeds are done,
We must make to the mill;
There to firstly fulfil
Our unchanging chores,
And to feel like two felons
Behind dungeon-like doors.
We will work at our weaving
For pennies, not pounds;
A lugubrious life,
Then a grave in the ground.

On guard duty
On guard duty I hear boots crunch,
walking up and down
almost in a march.
On guard duty I hear boots crunch,
the wet earth smells fresh
and somewhere a tent flaps in the wind.
On guard duty I hear boots crunch,
walking up and down.

A Canadian Democratic Dictator
A dictator might improve our democratic illusions,
Compel all Canadians to vote and be part of the solution,
Throw out all party agendas for the greater national cause,
Maybe a Charter of Rights just for Canadians just because.
The Charter was not written for us; it was written for them,
Hundreds of millions of very strange looking women and men,
And others who like to march or riot or maybe burn police cars,
Then charged and onto Supreme Court appointments and be stars.
Unfortunately we have all been taught that the Charter is right,
Written in stone so no one can find fault either day or night,
We don’t have binding referendums so it can’t be changed,
If this was Switzerland, the Swiss could have it all rearranged.

You Take the Cake
If I didn't provide you with munchies,
You wouldn't find a munch to crunch.
You would complain about the labor.
That it takes for you to make your lunch.
If I didn't provide you with munchies,
You wouldn't find a munch to crunch.
You would complain about the labor.
That it takes for you to make your lunch.
You take the cake.
With nothing brought from you to the table.
You take the cake.
With judgements passed and faked fables.
You take the cake...
And you leave no one a taste.
With a demonstating of your greed.

Fly Fishing
Staring at the water for that bright silver ring
Casting his line to that very spot
Hoping that it will become hot
Standing waiting without a care
When all of a sudden there it was there
Dancing and flashing in the sun
He hopes he has caught the great big one
But no this was not to be
It went and broke his line you see
With not a worry or a care
Just that silver tint upon his hair
It reminds him of the past
When he went fishing with his Dad

A Culture of Greed (The Riots Summer 2011)
Now the English streets are quiet
The lads are hoping for another riot!
What do you do when you can't get a job?
Burn down a supermarket and loot and rob!
Give the community a bit of a scare!
That's what you do when life's not fair.
Blame it on Cameron and Brown and Blair
Everyone knows that none of them care.
Go on, my friend, take what you need,
This is the hour of lawlessness and greed,
What does it matter if a few people die?
I'm bloody well getting my slice of the pie! !

My Fishing Hole
I'm going down to my fishing hole,
Got my tackle box, and Garcia pole.
Gonna catch a mess of fish for lunch,
Fry em up in my pan, I love that crunch.
With a bitsy minnow on my line,
I'll catch enough, so all can dine.
Hoping for blue gills and sunfish too,
I love fishing that's what I do.
I got a sandwich and a couple of beers,
I do love fishing, I hold it dear.
Look at this fishing hole, what a beautiful sight,
Hold on, hold on now, I got a bite.

What's for lunch?
It's ten past noon,
he lays there on his couch.
Watching television,
empty stomached.
It's thursday afternoon,
six thousand kilometers away.
She sits by her toy rock,
starved, and dehydrated.
He picks up the remote,
changes channel.
His stomach gently grumbles,
What's for lunch? he wonders.
Temperature rises past thirty-five
She fiddles with the dirt.
Her stomach endlessly roars
What's for lunch? she dreams.
Thrity minutes later
the doorbell rings.
He picks up his twenty
and pays the delivery man.
Sixty seconds later,
a beetle crawls by
she springs to her feet.
and thanks her lord
He wipes his greasy mouth
on his sleeve
and leaves his unfinished grub
and falls asleep.
She enjoys her lunch
but feels very weak.
sick and tired
she falls asleep
Two hours later
he is awakened by thunder.
throws out his leftovers
and begins to read the news.
Two minutes later
she is drenched by rain,
she looks at the sky
and opens her mouth with a smile.
He puts down the paper,
and finally gets up
to cook his next meal.
What's in the fridge? He thinks.
She shivers in the rain,
orphan, and deseased
she walks towards some foiliage.
I am safer now. She hopes.
He ends his meal,
and leaves his house.
Climbs into his truck
and drives off to a bar.
Now the rain has stopped,
she prays and kisses her rock
and falls asleep.
wet, frail, poor, hungry.
Midnight, he arrives
back to his cozy home,
and falls asleep.
Warm, wealthy, happy, full.
Nothing awakes her,
her stomach painfully growls.
She takes one last breath,
but too weak for one more.
The alarm clock awakes him
It's nearly eleven,
getting out of bed he wonders
what's for lunch?
Written to raise awareness of the causes of starvation around the world, and how priviledged some countries are. This inequality should not exist.

There Was a Poem Written Long Ago
There was a poem
Written long ago
A quiet poem
I cannot read it now
I will not write it again-
A quiet poem
We wrote
That went deep
Into my soul
And made it know
That life
Is forever good and beautiful-
A quiet poem
that will never be written
for me
again.
