Sonnet: The Desert-Snake in a rat-hole!

The Desert-snake was cornered in a hole,
And flushed out ’live, without a single scratch;
A prisoner now with once a kingly role;
To Eagles’ eyes, he’as finally no match.

The victors sigh a heave of great relief;
The vanquished too was tired of hiding;
That people rejoice is the false belief;
The desert wasn’t meant for happy riding.

The Oppressor has been removed for good;
Some dignity, the Aggressors may get;
As people clamor for water and food,
The war seems still far from over as yet.

The Eagles have their Desert-snake in beak!
But wars can find all fighters sometime weak.

Sonnet: The Desert-war

Two Eagles want a mouse as Baghdad’s King!
The Desert -Snake is too wily to swoop:
Once he is gone, they can have anything,
From oil and gasoline to camel-soup!

They encircled the Snake in the desert!
The Snake is swift and appears like mirage!
His oil-wells burn the two intruders' heart;
They cannot turn so fast to be his phage!

The Eagles know the Desert-Sun is hot!
They know they cannot bear the heat for long:
They take a risk but don't want to be caught;
They cannot take the country for a song!

The Eagles may be Kings of their own skies!
The Desert-Snake rules, though on belly lies!

A Tree in the Desert

A tree in the desert thirsts for water
A tree in the desert gets too much sun
A tree in the desert is alone in the freezing night
A tree in the desert might never be seen
A tree in the desert might never be touched
A tree in the desert may or may not thrive
A tree in the desert struggles to stay alive

Everything In You Seems To Be Wrong

you must notice that everything in you seems to be wrong
your arms are shouting violence
and your mouth carries the venom of the snake
and keeps on spitting
and your eyes carry the knives of serial killers
stabbing anyone that comes your way
your body is twisted and your feet crawl like this centipede
your hands have become scorpions
looking for something to bite in the desert of your heart
and then you laugh like thunder and you touch people like lightning

and you finally find yourself alone like it were the very first day of
creation
complete darkness without any light
without water and earth
just this cosmic chaos and you tell yourself

i am so lonely and i am laughing and this is pretty bad.

who in your world would like to live with you?

Desert Rats

Desert rats
Take cover in the heat,
They know what to toss
And what to keep -
They skillfully hide under big sombreros
And down lots of water,
They've learned well when to sit, and when to quit,
When to stay, and when to scatter -
The desert calls them
Right to the edge of existence;
But, too wise are they, any foolish games to play,
For in the desert they have found the art of survival is patience -
Listen close my friends for the divine desert to call you...
By all means, come and see,
But, with eyes wide open tread slowly
Following the tracks of wise old desert rats...
Just like me.

(this is for my pal Juan O. A fellow 'desert rat'!)

Self Love

Older woman

Who is lonely

And has no self love

Wants love

The old desert

Which is empty

And has no water

Wants water

Please clouds

You will run dry

When on the desert you pour out your water

But the desert

Thirsts for the water.

Philosophers Bones

He’s given them all to a Desert Man
Underdog bitten holes of the head
He’s given them all to a Desert Man
Unleashed sunflower sunward led
He’s given them all to a Desert Man
In windblown power the dinas bled
He’s given them all to a Desert Man
Like tears in the desert rose shed
Stone alone atoned in the last sand clock
Soul alone attained keyed within the lock

Snake

I am a snake-
Some call me a venomous rattler.
Seething with anguish,
I slither in the sand.

There is no water in this tepid desert.
I foresee no oasis.
There is no liquid to quench
My insatiable thirst.
A mirage has become a liar to me.

I am a venomous rattling snake.
I squirm beneath the torridity of
This desert’s noon sun.

Fearful of all who encounter me,
I am a frightening source to others.

I am a snake – terrified, and defensive.
I lash out to all who approach me.

I am a rattler, who dwells in the Kalahari,
Amongst the natives known as
The” no kneed Bushmen”-who pay games of
Catch with the rising and the setting sun.

Hunted down,
A poisonous arrow spears me.
Slithering more and more slowly within the brush,
I know that I am on the descent towards hell.

My heart weakens, and ceases to beat.
As life slowly escapes me,
My spirit evades me,
As I writhe in emotional agony.

Incantation (1)

The Shadow is a Snake,
Living under the Sand,
And seared by the Sun.

The Sun burns the Sand,
The Snake slithers out,
And follows the Shadow.

The Sand absorbs the Sun,
The Snake bares its fangs,
Then it covers the Shadow.

The Shadow and the Snake,
The Sand and the desert Sun,
One for all, all for one.

Snake Eye

You paint a picture
So its plain to see
Aint no hiding
No security
Ill be watching
Every move you make
When you hear the rattle
Better be awake
Chorus:
Snake eyes, Im watching
Snake eyes, look out
Snake eyes, its coming
Snake eyes, aint no escaping from the snake eye
(no way)
You leave a footprint
For my eye to see
Catch an echo
From a lock and key
From the shadow
Or behind a rock
Get you anywhere
From the darkest shack
Chorus
Hear a rustle
From behind a tree
Get you running
Home to sanctuary
Bolt the door and -
You think youre safe
Im coming to get you
Gonna reach out (? ? ? )
Chorus
Got the snake eyes, they call me a snake in the bush
Snake eyes, biting
Snake eyes, always watching
Snake eyes
Aint no escaping from the -
Just keep a lookout for the -

when you find yourself
inside a snake pit
you can not just be naive
to be bitten and even
swallowed by another

you become a snake
yourself and bite
as many as you can

this is the law of the
survival of the fittest snake
and when you emerge
as the victor

go back to your form

IN the desert
A camel
A lady
Riding
Against an orange sky

The lady in silk

She is running away

From the hot sun

In the desert
The sun is confident
Following her

In the full view

After all, the desert where the camel
And the woman walk

Is the sun’s best friend.

The usual old ways do not know betrayal.

Out Of Bondage

Delivered out of many years of bondage and given a brand new start,
All they had to do was follow Moses and trust God's unchanging heart.

From the bondage through Moses lead they were given complete relief,
But some never saw The Land because of hardened hearts of unbelief.

Forgetting that Moses was on Sinai speaking to God on their behalf,
The Israelites complained they had no God so Aaron made a gold calf.

Angered by their faithlessness God wanted to destroy them that day,
But Moses pleaded for the people and God allowed a remnant to stay.

The people continued to complain to Moses almost every single day,
So God wouldn't stay with them for fear He'd destroy them on the way.

When being lead along the Red Sea many simply complained and cried,
So The Lord sent venomous snakes among them and many of them died,

But when the people went to Moses and acknowledged that they sinned,
He put a snake on a pole and all who looked to the snake would live.

Their rebellion had angered God so much when they surveyed the land,
That most of Israel was judged by His Mighty Righteous Uplifted Hand.

For 40 years they wandered in the desert because of their wicked sin,
And only those under the age of 20 with Joshua and Caleb entered in.

Will you friend stay on the straight path that God allowed to start?
Or will you have your journey shortened by a sinful rebellious heart?

Desert Island

Cast away on a desert island
Me and poor crusoe are sharing the same fate
Cast away on a desert island
With great britain written on its name plate
With my umbrella I go walking
Through all the sands on a building site
Across the shopping malls and motorways
Birds from heathrow fill the
Night with people flying to escape
Friday comforts me and says its pay day
Cast away on a desert island . . .
The game and coconuts is plentiful
You pick em right off of a supermarket shelf
And all the man-eaters are parked away
Down in garages
While their selfish owners drinking to escape
Lord of flies with cocktails in his conch shell
Dont rescue me, no
This is my home sweet home dear
Dont rescue me, no
I am far from alone here
Cast away on a desert island
Me and one nation are sharing the same fate
Cast away on a desert island
With great britain written on its name plate
Cast away on a desert island

My Texas Desert Heaven

There's no tree,
As far as I can see,
The cactus are always green.
There's alot of sand,
But oh man,
This is my Texas desert heaven.
The stars are nice and bright,
The moon shines over desert sky at night,
That's My Texas desert night.
It's like being in Heaven,
When it rains it smells so great.
This is where my heart roams and stays,
This is My Texas Desert Heaven.

If I Ever Was a Snake

If I was a snake, my eyes would be green,
I would wander the land and look real mean.
If I was a snake, I'd know how to sting,
Despite all the trouble it would bring.

If I was a snake, I'd be red and gold,
I would slither and slather and eat my mice cold.
If I was a snake, I'd rattle my tail,
But I'd be polite and never go to jail.

If I was a snake, I'd slide on my tummy,
Hamsters and mice would be real yummy.
If I was a snake, I'd live on the ground,
Sleeping and snoring 'till I was found.

I would never learn how to rake,
If I ever was a snake.

My Desert Serenade

(words & music by stan gelber)
Come here my serenade, my desert serenade
A lovers melody, to bring you close to me
Its a tender lullaby, born of golden sand and sky
The song is new, and its calling you
Tonight beside the desert palms
Come let me take you in my arms
Come here my serenade, my desert serenade
Wherever lovers dwell, it weaves its magic spell
Soon a thousand dreams will start,
And romance will fill your heart
My lips conceal, love thats warm and real
Give me a chance to hold you near
Youll see a brand new world appear
So come and hear, my desert serenade, my desert serenade,
My desert serenade

I Went Down into the Desert

I went down into the desert
To meet Elijah—
Arisen from the dead.
I thought to. find him in an echoing cave;
For so my dream had said.

I went down into the desert
To meet John the Baptist.
I walked with feet that bled,
Seeking that prophet lean and brown and bold.
I spied foul fiends instead.

I went down into the desert
To meet my God.
By him be comforted.
I went down into the desert
To meet my God.
And I met the devil in red.

I went down into the desert
To meet my God.
O, Lord my God, awaken from the dead!
I see you there, your thorn-crown on the ground,
I see you there, half-buried in the sand.
I see you there, your white bones glistening, bare,
The carrion-birds a-wheeling round your head.

Trace My Love

Follow me find me,
call me come to me,
Touch me hold me,
Kiss me and love me.

Here I am, close to you,
There you are far from me,
rise your hand and hold me,
kiss me and love me,

Here I am on the highest mountains,
not Kilimanjaro, nor Evarist,
It is here on the great lakes,
not Victoria nor tanganyika

Am just here, in the green desert,
from the snow in the drought,
Not in the forest of Amazone,
Find me in the food with diet.

Look up to the sky,
Am in there in the sands,
Not even in the food,
just find me, am good,

Hurry up and look for me,
Chap chap don't fail me,
Am waiting just trace me,
almost tired resque me,

Am just here you can see me,
Not there just trust me,
not in the crowd of people,
not in the city nor in the village

Am just here run to me,
I can hear you believe me,
I can see you look at me
Trace my love Am in you.

The Desert Wind

I went with happy heart (how happy!) a while since
Behind my camel flocks,
Piping all day where the Nile pastures end
And the white sand begins
Among the rocks.
The wheeling eagles mocked me high there from the skies,
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

I saw a lady pass, (what lady?) none could tell,
Nor of her tribe nor race,
Of Roum or Franjistan or Fars or Hind;
None knew. But I knew well
That her sweet face
Had blossomed first within the gates of Paradise.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Within a tasselled frame, rich wrought, she sat and sang
A song of love so sweet,
That beast and bird and serpent came behind,
And lizard with shut fang
And faltering feet.
My flocks strayed after them, and I who heard likewise.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Upon a camel tall (how tall!) she rode by me
Enrobed in white and red,
And veiled to her bright eyes in bands that bind
But hide not all souls see;
And on her head
A crown entwined of wool with gold and various dyes.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Out to the wilderness, all day, we followed her.
By winding paths untrod,
O'er rock and plain none knew nor I could find,
Although my home was there;
And still we rode.
The creatures tired and stopped; but I went on with sighs.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

We came to a deep pool (how deep!) I knew of none
In all that land accursed,
A pool of waters clear with white shells lined,
And there we lighted down
And suaged our thirst,
And bathed our weary limbs, we two without disguise.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Upon the brink we sat (ah me!) alone, we two,
In that fair empty place.
I kissed her hands and told her all my mind,
And dared her grace to sue,
Her utter grace.
And she with smiles said ``yea'' to my too blest surprise.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Ah me, that night of stars, those bridal stars of heaven!
Ah me, those eyes of hers,
So sweet, so near, of that same starry kind,
Which drank their light ungiven,
(Poor blinded stars!)
And left them dark as they have left me wise.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

How shall I tell it? All three months of happy love
I lived with her, blest queen,
Fed on sole joy and what God's care might send
Of milk and treasure--trove
Of sorrels green,
And roots and tubers fine and samh which we made prize.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Since when I search the Earth (sad Earth!) in vain to win
Once more her wondrous voice,
Which led me forth to doom and left me blind,
Bereft of flocks and kin
And homely joys,
Of wife and children's love and to behold the skies.
The red blast of the desert wind
Hath seared mine eyes.

Incantation (II)

I am the Shadow:
You cannot escape away from me,
I will follow you wherever you go.

I am the Snake:
You cannot divert your path,
I will mix poison in your blood.

I am the Sand:
You cannot run away from me,
I will engulf and bury you alive.

I am the desert Sun:
You have no place to hide,
I'll scorch and make you dry.

I am the Shadow and the Snake,
I am the Sand and the Sun,
One for all, all for one.
