The Morning Baking

Grandma, come back, I forgot
How much lard for these rolls

Think you can put yourself in the ground
Like plain potatoes and grow in Ohio?
I am damn sick of getting fat like you

Think you can lie through your Slovak?
Tell filthy stories about the blood sausage?
Pish-pish nights at the virgin in Detroit?

I blame your raising me up for my Slav tongue
You beat me up out back, taught me to dance

I'll tell you I don't remember any kind of bread
Your wavy loaves of flesh
Stink through my sleep
The stars on your silk robes

But I'm glad I'll look when I'm old
Like a gypsy dusha hauling milk

Where No One Works!

hauling scrap metal,
junk...
old washers, dryers,

old beat up cars,
rusted down high octane
roads going nowhere.....

metallic flowers,
dying and dead,
never to bloom again...

hauling junk...
trading metal for milk,
bread, and potatoes...

in the land where no one works!

Silver

Nirvana- Silver
Mom and dad went to a show
They dropped me off at Grandpa Joe's
I kicked and screamed, said please don't go
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Had to eat my dinner there
Mashed potatoes and stuff like that
I couldn't chew my meats too good
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
She said, well, don't you start your crying
Go outside and ride your bike
That's what I did, I killed my toe
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
After dinner, I had ice cream
I fell asleep and watched TV
I woke up in my mother's arms
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home
Grandma take me home

Gypsy Queen

Dance on gypsy queen
And if its all night,
Its alright
Rave on, let your love
Come tumbling down
And if you let your love come tumbling down,
Its alright
Dance on, you know its all right
Gypsy queen
Dance on, you know its all right
Gypsy queen
Rave on, there beneath the silvery moon
Dont stop your carburetor
Let your car run
And if it starts to rain
Keep on dancin in the rain
And if its all night
Its alright
Dance on, you know its all right
Gypsy queen
Dance on, you know its all right
Gypsy queen
Ooh la la la la la la la la la la
Dance dance dance the night away
Ooh la la la la la la la la la la
Dance dance dance the night away
Come on come on come on let me hear you say
Youre gonna dance on gypsy queen
Stars shine down on you
And its alright
Ooowee I wanna throw my arms around you
Im so glad Ive found you
Gypsy queen
Dance on, you know its all right
Gypsy queen
Dance on, you know its all right

Dance... If You Dare

Shall we dance, In a trance, Lost to the beat, So complete, It rolls through your head, Nothing need be said,

Just dance away, Just dance away, Dance away the whole damn day,

Let the music guide, Crush your pride, Shake those hips, Feel those lips, Don't give a care, Dance... If You Dare

Just dance away, Just dance away, Dance away the whole damn day,

I Danced With The Ball Of Silk - By Kitty Cotton (My Great Niece) Aged 11 (Set of three poems)

There it hung gracefully in the darkness,
So beautiful I could not resist,
I shall go to the silk ball and dance with the stars.

I used the clouds as steps and the stars formed me a ladder,
And I touch the ball,
It is so silky and as smooth as milk,
I dance all night with it.

I come back home and tell the amazing news,
But of course no-one believed me,
But, I shall treasure it as my memory for ever.
For I danced with the ball of silk!

Dear Grandma

Dear Grandma, I remember
When you were there for me
Dear Grandma, I remember
Your smile was a joy to see

Dear Grandma, I remember
The wonderful dinners I had
I remember how you cared
You dried my tears when I was sad

Dear Grandma, I remember
All the wonderful things you gave
You would let us play around
You would always be there to wave

Dear Grandma, I remember
All your loving care
Helping when I was sick
You were always there

Dear Grandma, I remember
That you are there for me yet
Always a comfort to me
Dear Grandma, I wont forget

Cajun Born

I was born on the bayou
Thirty miles of Layfayette
My daddy was a cajun man
Lord he taught us how to plow
I remember mama's breakfast
Cush Cush and a Kaye
Being served on a Banyee
Oh, I wish I had some now.
I'm a cajun born
I'm a cajun bred
When I die
I'm a cajun dead
If I die in Alaska
If I die in Ohio
This soul will find its way
Back to the bayou.
We went to church every sunday
We had a French speaking preacher man
Joked about the preacher man
'Cause we thought he wore a dress.
After church we had a party
We played the music on the phonograph
We had a man singing Jole Blan
Made a sinner out of me.
I'm a cajun born
I'm a cajun bred
When I die
I'm a cajun dead
If I die in Alaska
If I die in Ohio
This soul will find its way
Back to the bayou.
When I'm ready to be married
I'm going to be this cajun lady
Some sorta like my mamma
'Cause there ain't no other kind.
'Cause there ain't no other kind.
Wherever fortune takes me
If it makes me or it breaks me
It's memories will forsake me
Louisiana on my mind.
I'm a cajun born
I'm a cajun bred
When I die
I'm a cajun dead
If I die in Alaska
If I die in Ohio
This soul will find its way
Back to the bayou.
If I die in Alaska
If I die in Ohio
This soul will find it's way
Back to the bayou...

A Day To Remember

march 14 2011
is a day you taught me how to fish
a day you taught me how to dance
i'll never forget
the way you used to kiss me
the way you used to squeeze my hands
march 14 2011
is a day to remember
our first kiss
when we used to chase each other in the forest
march 14 2011
is a day to remember
the first day we was watching the stars in the dark sky
baby every time i see you
i just want to dance with under the trees
i know i hurt you
but i didn't aim to
so come back in my arms
lets go back to our history
and erase all the struggles
we been through
and start all over again
baby i love you
march 14 2011
is
a day to remember

Gettin Back

When we've arrived by boat or rail, and feeling pretty well,
And humped our heavy gladstones to the Great Norsouth Hotel;
And when we've had a wash and brush and changed biled rags for soft —
And ate a hearty country meal — our spirits go aloft!
(Damn the city!)

When we've walked out a mile and back along the old bush track,
And dropped into the letter-box our last damned letters back;
When we've turned in and slept half through the soft white beds all night
To start, at daylight toy the coach — we're getting back all right.
(Damn the city!)

When we have crossed the nearer heights through box and stringy-bark,
And traced the newer tree-marked track above the gullies dark;
When we begin to ask how far it is to tucker yet —
Where clear streams whet our appetites — we're getting back, don't fret.
(Damn the city!)

We try to draw the driver out (a 'case' as like as not),
For we don't know how much he knows, or how much we've forgot.
And we make bloomers, and the seats seem narrow slippery shelves —
Until we find he's just a liar, like ourselves.
(Damn the city!)

When we can take an interest in all and everything,
When we begin to drop the 'g' in words that end in 'ing',
When good old oaths come 'back again, and we can sleep at night,
And eat our fish with knives and forks — we're gettin' back all right.
(Damn the city!)

I'm staying at a lake-side home, down here at Nevermind,
The small hand 'separator' is the only change I find,
And there's a girl with kind grey eyes and hair of reddish gold,
And she's read somewhere in a book that poets don't grow old.
(Damn the city!)

She's twenty-two, I'm forty-three; but, ere the week is done,
She's only in her eighteenth year, and I am twenty-one!
I'm younger than the younger men, who can't be young — or won't —
She heard that poets don't grow old — and now she knows they don't.
(DAMN THE CITY!)

The dandy tourists wonder how the old town had got in —
The straight young bushmen wonder how that poet bloke could win.
But the grand old bush life backed me up, when they were hard to rouse,
And I turned out at six o'clock and helped her milk the cows!
(DAMN THE CITY!)

When You Want Something You Can't Have

I can still remember all the pain that I felt, I can't believe that back then the thought of you, or sound of your voice could make me melt

I can still remember all the pain that you caused and how in the end my heart was the one shattered in pieces on the floor, but what I can't believe is that after all that I just wanted you more

It was like I was the stupid moth to your flame, and in the end I got burned and have only myself to blame, I knew I couldn't have you but that didn't stop me from wanting you, I guess I hoped maybe deep down inside you wanted me too

I knew from the start liking you was pointless, but that didn't stop me and in the end I was the one cleaning up my big mess

To make matters worse you knew how I felt all along, I pegged you for a kind, sweet guy but in the end I guess I was wrong

Back then it felt like the worse kind of pain and it felt like i couldn't go on, but looking back on it now, I realized it made me smarter and it made me strong

So in the end even though I was the that was one hurting oh so bad, I must admit as I look back on it I'm kind of glad, because you taught me a valuable lesson in what happens when you want something you can't have

Rondeau

Fleas, stink, pigs, mold,
The gist of the Bohemian soul,
Bread and salted fish and cold.

Leeks, and cabbage three days old,
Smoked meat, as hard and black as coal;
Fleas, stink, pigs, mold.

Twenty eating from one bowl,
A bitter drink -it's beer, I'm told-
Bad sleep on a straw in some filthy hole,
Fleas, stink, pigs, mold,
The gist of the Bohemian soul,
Bread and salted fish and cold.

Gypsy, Joe And Me

We might have slept in a rail yard or camped by the river bank
We fed ourselves from the fruit of the land
and quenched our thirst with rain
We never did allow no roots to grow beneath our feet
Life just had no pattern for Gypsy Joe and me
All we had was each other.and the rags upon our back
The closest thing to a home we new was some abandoned shack
But we had all we needed and the rest we didn't need
Life was free and simple for Gypsy Joe and me
Now Gypsy was my little dog ,I found by the road in a ditch
And so I named him Gypsy, cause that name just seemed to fit
Oh and Joe he was my man,the flower of my soul
Thou he never said he loved me,I just always seemed to know
While standing by the highway, thumbin' for a ride
The speeding wheels of a passing car, took Gypsy's life
I lost him where I found him and his loss was misery
Now there's no more Gypsy, there's just Joe and me
Well the winter came and the snow did fall
And the night was cold and still
And the rags we wore were not enough
and Joe he caught the chill
And he told me how he loved me
and in my arms he went to sleep
Now there's no more Gypsy,no more Joe,there's just me
While standin' here on the edge of this bridge
Lookin' down I see
The face of Joe and Gypsy, lookin' back at me
And somewhere in the distance I can hear them callin' me
Tonight we'll be together again
Gypsy,Joe and me

After six hours of school I've had enough for the day
I hit the radio dial and turn it up all the way
I gotta dance (dance dance dance now the beat's really hot) right on the spot
(Dance dance dance right there on the spot)
The beat's really hot
(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
Dance (dance) dance (dance) dance (dance) yeah!
When I feel put down I try to shake it off quick
With my guy by my side the radio does the trick
I wanna dance (dance dance dance now the beat's really hot) right on the spot

The beat's really hot
(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)

I play it cool when it's slow and jump it when it's fast

Trouble

A ship comes in from africa
Carrying forbidden cargo
Gonna bring somebody lots a trouble
Theres a family out in ohio
Gonna step on it and make it grow
Gonna fool some people at the double
Let it all go round
And it all comes down
A captain down in florida
Knows a man back in chicago
Every deal you know hes makin money
Rico comes from texas way
With a senorita from el paso
Glad hes found the land of milk and honey
Let it all go round
And it all comes down
g man down in panama
Cuts a trail to barcelona
Dip-lo-matic bag will be no hassle
Sails into the big t.o.
Thru the pipeline to alaska
Shes the one in town with something special
Maybe you maybe me maybe them
Look at you look at me look at them
Cut it out
You dont need it anyway
Sees its face in tennessee
Knows a place in casablanca
Detroit city never was a stranger
On the streets of amsterdam
London town and all around us
Everywhere we look we see the danger
Let it all go round
And it all comes down

Avalanche

I found your photograph in a cardboard box in a magazine
I can't remember you, remember us or anything
I taught you how to feel, but you just feel numb
They taught you how to feel, but you just feel numb
She comes apart in the avalanche
Fades out like a dance
Crawls back into bed
When it's over
When it's over
When it's over
And it's over
I watch the window and listen for the sound of cars
I can't remember the last time that it was yours
I taught you how to feel, why do you feel numb
They taught us how to feel, but we just feel numb
She falls apart in the avalanche
Fades out like a dance
Crawls back into bed
When it's over
When it's over
When it's over
When it's over
She falls apart in the avalanche
Fades out like a dance
Crawls back into bed
When it's over
And it's over
When it's over
