I recently formed a foundation to raise awareness for prostate cancer. I feel it's very necessary that men be more aware about prostate cancer and their health in general.

'Early stages' is when the cancer is completely contained within the prostate. If it is detected when the cancer is entirely in the gland, the chance for full recovery is at its highest.

My Mother and My Cancer

My mother always told me that without health, you have naught.
Now I find myself in a place I’m truly caught.
Cancer ate one of my kidneys and my bladder’s a sorry sight.
Expert doctors are working hard, but disagreeing what is right.

The one who sliced me open did a great job cutting out the cancer.
But as for the matter of my inflamed bladder, she really has no answer.
She suspected an infection and a urine specimen proved it was so;
Confusing since a specimen to the other doctor had resulted in a “no.”

All I know for sure is that the sewed up incision is not what hurts.
I’m suffering from what has attacked my bladder with the pressure it exerts.
As I sit down my lower body screams for help with what’s the matter.
My prostate cancer has been usurped by first kidney and now bladder.

Dear mother I have spared you the knowledge of my trauma.
You’ve had enough; you’ve had it tough in your 91 years of being mama.
Just know that your first born is enjoying a life in the style you taught.
Love is the way and each day is a gift; life’s jewels that can never be bought.

Old Autumn Rain

Old Autumn Rain

it is raining
heaven is urinating
drizzle
prostate heavenly enlarged
drip drip drip
drizzle drip
it is raining
leisurely
patiently
prostate cancer?
not at all
nothing malignant
nothing special
nothing unusual
nothing critical
nothing clinical
drip drip drip
drizzle drip
just autumn rain
just old autumn rain
just old man's rain
just old god's rain
just benign rain
it is halloween
it is raining

the big C

those who fear it cannot call it
by its own name

big C for cancer,
but cancer is cancer
no more no less
depends on what stage
then you are taken
as the next
victim by an old
expert culprit
so unforgiving
mercilessly taking the lives
of those
destined to die

cancer is cancer
no more no less

a friend of mine dies
today of cancer of the
liver.

period. I say another prayer.

A Tribute to Terry Fox (in iambic dimeter)

While just a teen,
And Cancer struck,
They took a leg
To save his life!
He liked to run
And loved to win;
But Cancer came
To play a game!
Now Earth was hell!
Yet, Fox would run
A marathon
For Cancer’s sake!
His aim was high-
To raise a fund
For Cancer’s fight,
Despite his plight!
But half-way through,
His Cancer spread
To both his lungs,
Despite the drugs!
He covered miles,
Before Life’s end;
Undaunted till
The last, he stayed!
Posthumously,
He turned so great;
His one-legged walk
For Cancer’s sake
Earned him a name
Indelible!
He is ‘alive’!
His run goes on
All o’er the world
In Cancer’s name!
The world had lost
A lad so young
Courageous
Exemplary!

Remedial Law Prof

remedial law prof
has cancer of the prostate

he has enough
of life: five children practicing

their professions and 8 grandchildren
to cheer him up

he is 78
and he says he is complete

no chemo
no surgery
nothing

saw him this pm
teaching still as if the bad news is nothing

living life
and giving it the chance to end itself
with all grace.

Just Around The Curve

another oil spill
hidden in small print
in the daily news....

somewhere behind
the Wall Street report,
the political hoopla...

and an ad for viagra.

maybe prostate cancer,
or the big truck hurtling
over the line just around

the curve....

smokestacks puffing,
cars backed up for miles...
cell phones ablaze...

going nowhere!

Diagnosis

go to the doctor to see whats wrong
little did i know that i'd be saying so long
to body parts i thought that i might like to maintain
whats my loss turned into cancers great gain

the doc say's your prostate is a real wreck
it's riddled with cancer and oh what the heck
you could have it radiated or totally removed
better decide now before you lose your groove

so i cried a little bit then i said quite clear
cut the bastard out of me before it queers
so the doc sat back and said away we go
and scheduled me for surgery before it snows

but the horror of it all is that i will be cut
and filled with drainage tubes till i heal up
with a catheter draining into a attached bag
i'll be peeing all day wearing diapers gone bad

oh well i guess it could have a whole lot worse
i could have had it spread to every where like a curse
and doomed to die of a malignancy well played
i guess that if it's cancer better than dorian gray

Cancer

We don't know
How strong we are
Til being strong
Is the only choice
We have.

Why is it
That we have to be
Strong for others
When we have to be
Strong for ourselves?

Someone once said
'Wining isn't everything'
Well, he obviously
Never had
Cancer.

To lose your fight
Against cancer
Is to give in
To cancer
And die.

Though many are scared
Of this dreaded cell
Cancer is only a word
Not a whole
Sentence.

Just remember
You are not
Dying from cancer
You are living
With it.

Pink (cancer)

send out this poem to all that you know
Stop the cancer before it grows.

PINK

She was dressed all in pink to show her support
Of how she was one of the cancer victims
And how she had fought.

The cancer now in remission and she
Was leading a normal life
But no one knew of her struggles and strife.

It's hard to imagine when you're given that kind of news
We can treat the cancer, but a breast you will lose.
You feel violated and raped by that word
This was something that other people heard. (not me)

Breast cancer has no preference to whether
your yellow, Black or white - male or female
We all have to fight.

You hear about it every day- and it affects
us all in a different way.
You may think that it's just muscle and tissue taken away
But ask a victim and see what they say.

A MAMMOGRAM AND ULTRA SOUND IS THE KEY
TO HELP YOU LIVE CANCER FREE.

Cancer

Everything
Everything gives you cancer
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
Theres no cure, theres no answer
Everything gives you cancer
Dont touch that dial
Dont try to smile
Just take this pill
Its in your file
Dont work hard
Dont play hard
Dont plan for the graveyard
Remember -
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
Everything
Everything gives you cancer
Theres no cure, theres no answer
Everything gives you cancer
Dont work by night
Dont play by day
Youll feel all right
But you will pay
No caffeine
No protein
No booze or
Nicotine
Remember -

Ancient Scribbling

How did I get this ancient so very fast?
Seems like my 40th year is in the recent past.
Seventy one has just roared by like a freight train.
Now I trudge down the street in ever growing pain.

I truly believe in the reality of reincarnation.
These body parts were misused before my utilization.
I'm bald, but that feature causes me no fear;
What bothers me is each day there is less I can hear.

There's the deal about my memory and its phase;
Events of 50 years ago not bad… less for recent days.
As for my virility, I feel there is something wrong.
I tried to see four doctors, but the lines were too long.

I guess things aren't really as bad as they sound.
I had kidney-prostate cancer and am above ground.

Cancer For The Cure

The kids are diggin up a brand new hole
Where they put their deadbeat mom
Grandpas happy watching video porn
With the closed caption on
And father knows best
About suicide and smack
Well, hee hee hee
Cancer for the cure
Cancer for the cure
Buckle up and endure now baby
Cancer for the cure
ol blue eyes is back again
But he was never here in the first place
A heart attack may be something to fear
But take a look out back
cause courtney needs love
And so do i
Well, hee hee hee
Cancer for the cure
Cancer for the cure
Buckle upand endure now sweet thing
The cancer for the cure

Cancellation

The innocence is like cancer,
A cancellation of heaven
Wherever the world.
Cancer is a camera, a post
To be held in the hand.
The cameraman is gifted,
My warming of the shape is plenty.
Boiling and melting,
Snapping and curling,
My cancer spreads
And conceals itself
Until medicine looks at it,
The doctor connects.
Innocence is a way of cancer.

He Says There Is No Denial

i watched him on his last lecture.
there are seven tumors on his liver.
six months to live and he is on the fourth month.
a little math will make us understand
as simple as that.
he does the push up
look there are no hands, he laughs.
there is no sadness in his eyes
just the glow of having to go
the eagerness of having to go on
sabbatical leave.
nervous laughter is heard
as he shifts from one joke to another.
he has three points: one must not stop dreaming.
second: one must help others realize their dreams
third: i miss this one. i have to go back and watch him again.
i guess i cried.
but i wipe my tears, and pretend that i feel nothing.

i can relate. Grandpa died of prostate cancer.
Papa died after Mama died. He could not wait dying
after another year.

well, what 's the worry? death is certain.
i think, there is nothing new here.

i, too, am moving, i may not know when, but i know where.
i just believe.

Notes About Grandpa

grandpa had a square jaw
a complete of hard yellow teeth
broad shoulders like his hectares of land
strong hands like his iron bars of words
he is hard on us
he is harder to papa who (if i were not mistaken
had a death wish for him
he should not have meant it
as anger was wont to
be)
he was soft on women
on lots of
beautiful women
grandma died when he was at his
hardest prime
and he had forgiven her
he was strict on codes
he broke all of them
sometimes i thought
he must have been too happy
before he died
crazy prostate cancer
ate him alive

I am maybe only a member but I give everything I can to be sure that people understand that cancer is a disease for everybody - not only in France, in Europe, in Asia, it is all over the world.
