Diagnosis

go to the doctor to see whats wrong
little did i know that i'd be saying so long
to body parts i thought that i might like to maintain
whats my loss turned into cancers great gain

the doc say's your prostate is a real wreck
it's riddled with cancer and oh what the heck
you could have it radiated or totally removed
better decide now before you lose your groove

so i cried a little bit then i said quite clear
cut the bastard out of me before it queers
so the doc sat back and said away we go
and scheduled me for surgery before it snows

but the horror of it all is that i will be cut
and filled with drainage tubes till i heal up
with a catheter draining into a attached bag
i'll be peeing all day wearing diapers gone bad

oh well i guess it could have a whole lot worse
i could have had it spread to every where like a curse
and doomed to die of a malignancy well played
i guess that if it's cancer better than dorian gray

Mom Chose Me

Mom was four months pregnant with me,
When she got the very bad news.
She had cancer malignancy.
To treat there was no time to lose.
Mom needed chemo right away,
If there was to be hope at all,
To keep the cancer spread at bay.
An abortion was a must call.
But, Mom said it would have to wait
Till I was safe and sound outside.
I came at the earliest date.
Mom held me close before she died.

My Mom gave all that she could give,
So that I could be born and live.

A Tribute to Terry Fox (in iambic dimeter)

While just a teen,
And Cancer struck,
They took a leg
To save his life!
He liked to run
And loved to win;
But Cancer came
To play a game!
Now Earth was hell!
Yet, Fox would run
A marathon
For Cancer’s sake!
His aim was high-
To raise a fund
For Cancer’s fight,
Despite his plight!
But half-way through,
His Cancer spread
To both his lungs,
Despite the drugs!
He covered miles,
Before Life’s end;
Undaunted till
The last, he stayed!
Posthumously,
He turned so great;
His one-legged walk
For Cancer’s sake
Earned him a name
Indelible!
He is ‘alive’!
His run goes on
All o’er the world
In Cancer’s name!
The world had lost
A lad so young
Courageous
Exemplary!

Maybe Just Once

I cant believe
That what I feel
Is finally happening to me
Make it hurt
And point a finger
At my insecurites
Well I guess I just dont understand
About those complexities in your mind
And I guess I just dont understand
Why this world seems so unkind
Maybe
Maybe just one
I get just whats coming
Maybe
Maybe just once
I get whats coming to me
So once again
The way you feel
Youll never ever stay the same
And Im to blame
I wonder just who made
The rules up for this game
Well I guess I just dont understand
About what you want and what you need
And I guess I just dont understand
About why this is how it has to be
Maybe
Maybe just one
I get just whats coming
Maybe
Maybe just once
I get whats coming to me
So go around
You say those thousand things
You think you have to say
Look at me
And tell me loves not such
A hard word word anyway
Well how can you can count on me
I thought you realized for sure
And how can you just believe
I thought I deserved a little more
Maybe
Maybe just once
I get whats coming
Maybe
Maybe just once
I get whats coming to me
Oh god
Whats coming
Oh god
Whats coming to me

Its Not A Song

Day turns to night, and I turn into bed.
Cant get to sleep; somethings in my head.
Pacing the floor, I try to force a rhyme.
Why do I fear this time?
Its not a song till it touches your heart.
Its not a song till it tears you apart.
After whats left of whats right and whats wrong,
Till it gets through to you,
Its not a song.
Now close your eyes; look into your hand.
What do you see?
Life is our song, to give and learn to take.
Time will not wait.
Oh, wont you please come dance,
While the songs still playing,
Wont be long till the silence falls.
Its not a song till it touches your heart. (its not a song.)
Its not a song till it tears you apart.
After whats left of whats right and whats wrong,
Till it gets through to you,
Its not a song.
Its not a song till it touches your heart. (its not a song.)
Its not a song till it tears you apart.
After whats left of whats right and whats wrong,
Till it gets through to you,
Its not a song.
Its not a song till it touches your heart. (its not a song.)
Its not a song till it tears you apart.
After whats left of whats right and whats wrong,

Ancient Scribbling

How did I get this ancient so very fast?
Seems like my 40th year is in the recent past.
Seventy one has just roared by like a freight train.
Now I trudge down the street in ever growing pain.

I truly believe in the reality of reincarnation.
These body parts were misused before my utilization.
I'm bald, but that feature causes me no fear;
What bothers me is each day there is less I can hear.

There's the deal about my memory and its phase;
Events of 50 years ago not bad… less for recent days.
As for my virility, I feel there is something wrong.
I tried to see four doctors, but the lines were too long.

I guess things aren't really as bad as they sound.
I had kidney-prostate cancer and am above ground.

Whats Good - The Thesis

Lifes like a mayonnaise soda
And lifes like space without room
And lifes like bacon and ice cream
Thats what lifes like without you
Lifes like forever becoming
But lifes forever dealing in hurt
Now lifes like death without living
Thats what lifes like without you
Lifes like sanskrit read to a pony
I see you in my minds eye strangling on your tongue
Whats good is knowing such devotion
Ive been around - I know what makes things run
What good is seeing eye chocolate
What goods a computerized nose
And what good was cancer in april
Why no good - no good at all
What goods a war without killing
What good is rain that falls up
What goods a disease that wont hurt you
Why no good, I guess, no good at all
What good are these thoughts that Im thinking
It must be better not to be thinking at all
A styrofoam lover with emotions of concrete
No not much, not much at all
Whats good is life without living
What goods this lion that barks
You loved a life others throw away nightly
Its not fair, not fair at all
Whats good?
Oh, baby, whats good?
Whats good?
Whats good? not much at all
Hey, baby, whats good? (whats good? )
Whats good? (whats good? )
Whats good? (whats good? ) not much at all
Whats good? (whats good? )
Whats good? (lifes good)
Lifes good (lifes good)
Whats good? (lifes good) but not fair at all

Run That Body Down

Words & music by paul simon
Went to my doctor yesterday
A-a-a-a-ah, she said I seem to be o.k.
A-a-a-a-ah, she said
Paul, you better look around
How long you think that you can
Run that body down?
How many nights you think that you can
Do what you been do-o-in
Who, now who you foolin?
I came back home and I went to bed
Ah, I was resting my head
My wife came in and she said
Whats wrong, sweet boy, whats wrong?
Ah, I told her whats wrong
I said peg, you better look around
How long you think that you can
Run that body down?
How many nights you think that you can
Do what you been do-o-in
Who-o, now, who you foolin?
Kid, you better look around
How long you think that you can
Run that body down?
How many nights you think that you can
Do what you been do-o-in
Who-o, now, who you foolin?
Who-o, now, who you foolin?

Hey, Jonny

Had race bannnons car for just five minutes
I had to back in and get my phone
When I came back again, he saw his car
Well, I thought it had crashed on its own
What a bummer, I was so bought down
Race chased me all over rockport town yellin
(chorus)
Hey, jonny
Hey, jonny
Hey, jonny
Whats wrong with you?
Took my girl jess to the dayton disco
I jumpin like a maniac
But estella came and pulled me off the floor
Then she later took me round the back
She said I really like your shirt from the 50s
Your jeans are groovy and your hairs okay
But you dont sneak upon my jessie like that
Sorry, jonny but could you go away?
(chorus)
Now Im at home
Im watchin dungeons and dragons
I guess time to trade races old car in
For my twenty buck from the flagons
Guess I could take to my dad
Or Im in trouble
Hadji could give me advice
No wait, that could burst my bubble
Race looked me in the eye and later then
He said jonny, you blew it again
(chorus)
(hey, jonny
Whats wrong with you? )
Listen, Im accident prone
No really
(hey, jonny
Whats wrong with you? )
Oh man
Race, can I make it up to ya?
(hey, jonny
Whats wrong with you? )
Hey, hey
I didnt mean to crash your car

Whats Up With That

Well how much blues do you use
Before you use it up
And how many fools take a chance
Before they hit it lucky
Tomorrows wanna be the day
It never seem to work that way
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Everybody want a little more
Than they think they got
But what you might think it is,
Might really not be, baby
Pick it up or leave it lay
It always seem to slip away
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Now how high will a river get
Before it overflows
And how long is the hole to china
It dont really know
This is what its all about
Theres always gonna be a doubt
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Whats up with that
Whats up with that

Healing Hand of God

The Lord to me has revealed, from my illness I’ve been healed,
From that cancer, deep inside, this, the doctor has not denied,
What was said to be incurable, is now removed, by God’s Will,
Stating that, I am now cancer free, for The Lord has healed me.

For when my body was diseased, my Lord above was pleased,
To touch my body in that state, to heal my body along the wait,
Upon my Lord’s healing touch, as God loves His own so much,
Always faithful to each one of us, as we follow our Lord, Jesus.

It could seem God may hesitate, while for Him we patiently wait,
But God moves in His own time, by His decreed, eternal design,
A design involving each one of us, who in God, place their trust,
As from God, it is understood, all things, work out for our good.

My healing is all for God’s Glory, as He takes my doctor’s story,
Using the doctor’s medical skill, in accordance with Christ’s Will,
This is also part of our Lord’s plan, to touch an unbelieving man,
Who has been used by The Lord, though by him, God’s ignored.

As I lift up to the Lord, my praise, for carrying me all these days,
In all, the doctor is able to see; he too, can be healed spiritually,
That the doctor, can really rejoice, along with me, with one voice,
As to him, The Holy Spirit reveals, it is The Lord, Who truly heals.

for JOJI on terminal cancer (revised)

i have no courage to see her.
But i imagine that she is bald,
and in pain, and always taking
those pain relievers.
I imagine that.
Who knows, i may be wrong.
Not all cancers are painful. Perhaps.
But most cancers are painful.
That bone, that marrow,
the pain that lingers even in the
middle in the night when everyone
would be soundly sleeping with
their loved ones.
I have seen those with brain cancers
how they hit their heads on
the cemented walls
to ease the pain
those bloated stomachs
afflicted with liver cancer.

Cancer is pain. And Joji must
be suffering it by now.
She must be bald
for her locks of hair
must have fallen to the pillow
part of that
chemotherapy side effects.

But i think i know Joji.
She is a strong woman
with a sense of humor
with laughter always on
her face
she has the will to be herself
despite the sickness
till death, perhaps,
i know that she will not change
i know that she will not
let the cancer defeat her
innate goodness
her confidence to herself
her faith in God
i know that she will always
be smiling
not minding the pain
and the uncertainties.
I know that she is not
afraid.

Upon saying all these
to comfort her
in her Face-book Account,
it is me
who fears most,
for after all,
i may not be able to live
what i am
saying to her.

God! Oh God!
Have mercy upon us all!

Whats The World Coming To

Whats the world coming to?
What they say isnt true
You cant plant no seed
Where theres only greed
I can walk anywhere
I can walk anytime
But the long highway
Is the only way
Whats the world coming to?
Whats the world coming to?
Everyones gone to the moon
Whats the world coming to?
Every night, every day
In this house filled with shame
I can say I care
But theres no one there
Theres no truth in my life
Theres no light in my eyes
And its all I guess
That Ill ever miss
Chorus
I can jump right off
Fall right in to the ocean
I can come right out
Mean just what I say
But if I dont call for a reservation
Theyll just turn me down
Turn me inside out
I dont take what they want
I dont do what they say
So Im on their list
So Im gone I guess

Whats Done Is Done

By gregg allman, allen woody
Copyright 1994 sony music entertainment, inc.
Transcribed by ed luskey
I couldnt stay around and finish high school,
I had to hit the streets as soon as I could.
Now Im runnin, always runnin,
As I turned out the way they said I would.
Daddy told me all about chasing women,
Watched my momma lose her mind and all her hope.
Now the only thing thats left of my pathetic life,
Is dangling at the end of a rope.
Whats done is done,
Had me way too much fun,
Now Im runnin from a man with a gun,
Looking back over my shoulder, but I wont get much older
Whats done is done,
Lord, whats done is done.
Started hanging with the wrong kind of people,
Fooling with the wrong kind of folks.
Made my living doing things, got me locked up in chains,
As I went the way they said Id go.
Ahhh, whats done is done,
Had me way too much fun,
Now Im runnin from a man with a gun,
Looking back over my shoulder, but I wont get much older
Whats done is done,
Had me way to much fun,
Ohhh, runnin from a man with a gun,
Looking back over my shoulder, but I wont get much older
Whats done is done,
Oh whats done is done
Hey, ya, done is done,
Ohh whats done is done

Cancer

We don't know
How strong we are
Til being strong
Is the only choice
We have.

Why is it
That we have to be
Strong for others
When we have to be
Strong for ourselves?

Someone once said
'Wining isn't everything'
Well, he obviously
Never had
Cancer.

To lose your fight
Against cancer
Is to give in
To cancer
And die.

Though many are scared
Of this dreaded cell
Cancer is only a word
Not a whole
Sentence.

Just remember
You are not
Dying from cancer
You are living
With it.

depends on what stage
then you are taken

so unforgiving
mercilessly taking the lives

destined to die

cancer is cancer

My Mother and My Cancer

My mother always told me that without health, you have naught.
Now I find myself in a place I’m truly caught.
Cancer ate one of my kidneys and my bladder’s a sorry sight.
Expert doctors are working hard, but disagreeing what is right.

The one who sliced me open did a great job cutting out the cancer.
But as for the matter of my inflamed bladder, she really has no answer.
She suspected an infection and a urine specimen proved it was so;
Confusing since a specimen to the other doctor had resulted in a “no.”

All I know for sure is that the sewed up incision is not what hurts.
I’m suffering from what has attacked my bladder with the pressure it exerts.
As I sit down my lower body screams for help with what’s the matter.
My prostate cancer has been usurped by first kidney and now bladder.

Dear mother I have spared you the knowledge of my trauma.
You’ve had enough; you’ve had it tough in your 91 years of being mama.
Just know that your first born is enjoying a life in the style you taught.
Love is the way and each day is a gift; life’s jewels that can never be bought.

Sonnet: Cancer Today

The fight against disease called cancer is
On-going for so many years but still,
Not much relief is wrought from its death-kiss:
The diagnosis made when one is ill!

Research is done with big money inputs;
New drugs are patented without headway;
The developments come out with ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’!
Most cancers strike in relentless a way.

No cancer can be cured if found quite late;
Prevention is the only way to deal;
Despite progress in science, unchanged is fate
Of cancer-stricken men – what scientists feel!

Doing unwanted things, man/ woman lives;
‘Keep body pure’ – advice God’s Nature gives!
