I like rhyme because it is memorable, I like form because having to work to a pattern gives me original ideas.

Also, since art is a vehicle for the transmission of ideas through form, the reproduction of the form only reinforces the concept. It is the idea that is being reproduced. Anyone who understands the work of art owns it. We all own the Mona Lisa.

Room at the Inn

An eerie feeling on the road that night,
I was cold, tired and needed some sleep.
As the dark mist parted I could see the light,
so I cocked the wheel as I turned my Jeep.

“O yes I have room”, replied the inn keep
and from a small box, he handed me keys.
I was slow to decide but I needed sleep.
“Do you want it or not? ” - I replied; “please”.

I stepped in the room, felt weak in my knees,
as the door slammed shut the terror began.
The temperature dropped about ten degrees
I’m locked in a room with that awful man.

Why didn’t that sign say “No Vacancy”,
I thought to myself, as he strangled me.

Author notes

Spenserian sonnet

The Spenserian sonnet has a rhyme pattern of:
abab bcbc cdcd ee
Here, the 'abab' pattern sets up distinct four-line groups, each of which develops a specific idea; however, the overlapping a, b, c, and d rhymes form the first 12 lines into a single unit with a separated final couplet. The three quatrains then develop three distinct but closely related ideas, with a different idea (or commentary) in the couplet.

Rhyme

Poets rhyme from time to time
They don’t find rhyme a crime
It’s no sin, their using rhyme
Inspired rhyme is so sublime
Can often form a perfect line

Diversity for Friend Leslie

The sonnet form is capable
of being very flexible
It can be used to air your views
on almost anything at all.
From memories which you recall
to any subject you may choose.

Purists refuse to recognise
a sonnet form which in their eyes
is worthy of a total ban.
Because it differ from the form
which they insist must be the norm.
Petrarchan or Shakespearian.
Although they can stick to their views
I must refuse. I can’t agree

Ideas must be put to the test. That's why we make things, otherwise they would be no more than ideas. There is often a huge difference between an idea and its realisation. I've had what I thought were great ideas that just didn't work.

Lest I should be laid down low.

It is mete I should not know.
A mans future has to be
a deep mystery and so.

It was decreed long ago
No man is allowed to know
what his fate will come to be
in dire jeopardy or no.

The years will pass quick or slow.
Troubles come and troubles go
Insofar as I can see
Nobody is free to know.

I need no one to tell me so
We go where we have to go
Until we eventually
are allowed to see and know.

Little quiet

BE POET BUT LITTLE QUIET
BE LAZY BUT REMAIN BUSY
DON'T BECOME SAD BUT BE ALWAYS GLAD
AS YOU SMILE THE WORLD WILL FOLLOW YOU FOR A WHILE

YOU GOT TO WALK AN EXTRA MILE
AS YOUR IDEAS SHOULD NOT REMAIN ONLY IN FILE
YOUR PEN MUST INCITE THE CROWD
AS YOUR VOICE IS HEARD CLEAR AND LOUD

WHO SAYS PEN DOESN’T STRIKE?
REACH THE SKY IN FORM OF KITE
READ THE MESSAGE INCRIBED WITH INK
ESTABLISH THE CONTACT WITH IMFORMIDABLE LINK

LOVE TO LIVE WITH IDEAS AND PROPAGATE
AS IT WILL BE YOUR CHANCE TO STATE
DON’T HASTE FOR ANY OF ACTION
ELSE UT MAY INVIATE HOSTILE REACTION

SEE TO IT THAT YOU ARE OF IMMENSE STRENGTH
WORK AND IDEAS ARE WORKING ON SAME WAVE LENGTH
NO INFLUENCE TAKES YOU OVER AND CARRIED FAR
YOU ARE SUPOOSED TO BE BECOE SHINING STAR

TWINKLE IN SKY AND SIMPLY SMILE
YOUR WORK MAY SPEAK NOT FOR WHILE
IT MAY LEAVE BEHIND USEFUL TALE
LIFE STORY MAY BE SUCCESS AND NOT FAILED

Words Woven - Parody Mary BEULEY - Words Woven

Words woven into speech
soon reach
intact thread spirit of each act,
knit warp and weft of wit wish fact,
dreams' tapestry may teach.

Words express essentials,
transmit, unwind
from mind to mind,
address ideas which, blind,
would grope for means to equate
sensations refined,
coarse, sophisticate.
Thus they incarnate
emotion's multi coloured coat, pattern twist
around ideas which form,
unform,
inform or disinform,
or take by storm
precisely or by gist
the geist soul kissed.

Words woven into speech
pen hand,
when scanned
from thoughts’ life blood leach
emotions, sense, dressed to suit
points phallic and points mute,
ideo-grand!

© Jonathan Robin Parody Mary BEULEY 1837_1916 written 12 December 1995 – Words Woven revised 31 July 2008 notably first verse below
Words woven into speech
soon reach
to knit the spirit of each act,
the warp and weft of every fact,
through dreams to teach.

______________

Words Woven

Words woven into rhyme
In time
Become a tapestry of thought
A canvas of experience in which
Our dreams are wrought.

Words are the evidence of what goes on
communicate
Within the mind.
They clothe the invisible
With robes of speech,
Sophisticated as silk,
Homespun as hessian,
And in between
The many-patterned, many-textured range,
Familiar and strange,
Of words -
Woven and dyed and spun
For Fun
Or seriously aware
Of what is there.

Words woven into rhyme
Or prose
Transpose
Giving the tiny embryo of thought
A dress to wear, most delicately wrought,
And caught for ever in a form know
And understand.

With the wind, so truly patient
Bending back with every blow
Swaying freely, strength to show
Although fierce may be the storm
It can never break your form

Ever Decreasing Circles

I'm staring at the carpet, trying to pick out a pattern in my mind.

Ideas float about with no resting place.

I need to think, to start building something positive in my life.

Which road to take, such indecision, spinning my brain in
ever decreasing circles.

I must stop. I must decide what my next move will be.

And so,

I am staring at the carpet, trying to pick out a pattern in my mind.

Sonnet- Sonnet Needs Rhymes

Can you a Sonnet write without its rhyme?
Now people want the modern verse that's free;
As ideas get stuck and cramped with time,
A Sonnet's like leafless branches of tree!

A Sonnet's great for men who rhyme too well;
Its beauty lives in metre, rhythm, rhyme;
Yet, it can never run into 'pel-mel';
The sonneteer can write in any clime.

Why abhor rhymes and not a Sonnet write?
Each genre has its rules to comply with;
Why sleep all day and stay awake all night?
Rhyme-play is done by Kindergarden kith!

Why ridicule something you can't do well,
Much things are done by practice, Sonnets tell.
