Talking Cabbage

A talking cabbage told me, it would prefer to be in a side salad

Than watch the news

The couch potato listless of endless media coverage

Said it would rather be mashed and squashed

Than bored by another soap

Then it changed it's mind

And said it would prefer to mingle with mayonaise and chives

The talking cabbage said it would rather be coleslaw

Than know the weather

At least it could mingle with the onion and the carrot together

The talking cabbage said

' I would rather have my own chat show than watch Jerermy Kyle'

And then thinking it was all a dream

I showed him the chopping board

SILENCE

Then the cucumber started

I decided to become A NON VEGETARIAN

But something is telling me the lamb chops are restless

The eggs are becoming quite unreasonable

Over the spilt milk

And the bread is unhappy with it's filling

Happiness never lasts!

Decided to fast

But the silence is unbearable,

Who can fill it?

So I turned on the news.......! ! ..

Song of the Little White Girl

Cabbage tree, cabbage tree, what is the matter?
Why are you shaking so? Why do you chatter?
Because it is just a white baby you see,
And it's the black ones you like, cabbage tree?

Cabbage tree, cabbage tree, you're a strange fellow
With your green hair and your legs browny-yellow.
Wouldn't you like to have curls, dear, like me?
What! No one to make them? O poor cabbage tree!

Never mind, cabbage tree, when I am taller,
And if you grow, please, a little bit smaller,
I shall be able by that time, bay be,
To make you the loveliest curls, cabbage tree.

Reply to the Above, by F.W.F.

"Te quoque vatem dicunt pastores."—VIRGIL.

O Maxwell, if by reason’s strength
And studying of Babbage,
You have transformed yourself at length
Into a mental cabbage;
And if I've proved myself a lark
At morn and blushing even,
By soaring like a music-spark
Thro’ sapphire fields of Heaven,

Our diverse fates are now reversed
By strange metempsychosis,
Into a cabbage I have burst
And scorn poetic posies;
But you a lark with twinkling wings
O’er violet-banks are soaring;
Your voice the dewy rose-cloud rings
While Statics me are boring.

Yet cabbage as I will—on earth
My roots I cannot anchor,
For at my mathematic birth
Was also born a canker!
It soon will gnaw my roots away-—
But when I weigh a chœnix
I’ll freely soar to realms of day
An emerald cabbage-Phœnix.

Then talk not of the Poll to me,
I hate, detest, and scorn it;
I am as earnest as a bee,
But savage as a hornet.
And if they pluck me I will drown
Each pedant in a sonnet,
And of their pluckings make a crown
With golden plumes upon it.

So if my cabbage growth be slow
I'll try to be a carrot,
Or still remain a lark—but know
I'll not be Poll, or Parrot.
Then if I fall beneath the mark,
I’ll shout with accent savage,
"It is a lark to be a lark,
’Tis green to be a cabbage"

After The County Show

“Hello carrot, my word you do look tasty.”
“Oh, hello knife you too look pretty sharp
a cut above the rest I’d say, but let’s not be too hasty.”

“I say carrot, are you here for today’s county dinner? ”
“No, no not I, I’m a showpiece,
voted best of the show, a gold ribbon winner.”

“I knew you were special, lying next to the sole from Dover,
but surely you must know what you’re doing here
now that the county show is over? ”

“I reckon they want to show me off to all the local villagers.”
“Somehow carrot I think you’d better reckon again,
whilst I slice up the beans and cabbages.”

Slug City

There once was a family of slugs
That lived in a cabbage patch town
They went out every nite to eat
Found a cabbage and began to munch down

All through the night they could reduce
A cabbage to a stalk in the ground
All night they would munch and munch
But you would never here them, not nary a sound

But Mrs H was becoming fed up
Her patch the proudest around
With malace, blood red, she schemed
She vowed to eliminate those clowns

She purchased the best poison they had
She tried every trick she read
But the slugs just kept on coming
Every nite long after it was bed

Then a local wino he said
Out of the garden he could take
These inconsiderate gluttonous
Stylommatophora pulmonates

So he began by opening a beer
Placing some into a sphere
Putting them by each cabbage head
he said, 'This will make these slugs disappear.'

But by morning the cabbage was gone
Worse yet so was the beer
And if you looked even more closely
Tiny signs saying, 'Next time make it import you here.'

I am a little rabbit

- I am a little rabbit, hrum – hrum,

- I like sweet carrot, hrum – hrum,

- I’m like a ferret, hrum – hrum,

- Live in a burrow, hrum – hrum,

- Though it’s narrow, hrum – hrum,

- Now I am eating cabbage, hrum – hrum,

- It’s for my courage, hrum – hrum.

- Dear little rabbit, tell me about your habit!

- Hrum – hrum!

that can be celebrated every day.
I prefer moralists
who promise me nothing.
I prefer cunning kindness to the over-trustful kind.
I prefer the earth in civvies.
I prefer conquered to conquering countries.
I prefer having some reservations.
I prefer the hell of chaos to the hell of order.
I prefer Grimms' fairy tales to the newspapers' front pages.

I prefer not to ask how much longer and when.
I prefer keeping in mind even the possibility
that existence has its own reason for being.

Carrot before rabbit

Carrot gets value in front of a rabbit
And the rabbit wets its tongue, pursuing.
Once bitten, Carrot loses its value.
The distance generates value and saliva

To offer at no cost

Shown or withdrawn,
The carrot is not eaten.
But only as it is shown
The rabbit is on run
And the carrot, too, is shone.

If you are withdrawn
I would cease to run
And you lose the fun.
Why is this futile act then?

If you shut out
I am done away with.
If you show up
I am enlivened.
In both ways
You’re not broken.
Why not the status quo, then?

Choices

i prefer smooth peanut butter
to crunchy
mind you
crunchy is all right
but i prefer smooth.

i prefer strawberry jam
to raspberry
mind you
raspberry is tasty
but it's got all those seeds
and i prefer strawberry.

i prefer mustard
to mayonaisse
mind you mayonaisse has it's place
amongst condiments
but is likely to go bad
if left out to long
and poison everyone
so on the whole i prefer mustard.

i prefer cooked meat
to raw meat
for much the same reason
as i prefer mustard to mayonaisse
although it also has to do
with the fact that i don't
like my meat to bleat
or moo or make chicken noises (BAGOCK!)
when i eat
so i tend to avoid the raw
though mind you
the meat that i prefer
may at some time have been raw.

i prefer not to say
why i think so
but i do
and i suppose it's all
just a matter of taste
so if you'd prefer to think so
then crunchy is better
than smooth
even if it does interfere
with the texture of the
peanut butter
and jelly (strawberry) sandwich
which ought to be somewhat
devoid of substance
merely a sticky sweet something
to fill your stomach
put mayonaisse on it
if you like
i'd prefer not to think about it.

No Memo From You Did I Receive

What would 'you' prefer?
That I pretend I am not a writer,
With an interest that is expressed.
Or would you prefer I stay within boundaries,
Your mind has restricted to your limitedness?

Or would you prefer,
I reflect more of what you suspect I should be?
And would your suspicions have their development,
Centered from your perceptions?
Either way,
No memo from you did I receive.

And I admit,
Guessing is not what I do best.
And the only tests I 'prefer' to pass,
Are my own.

A Chase

Since birth
It's an endless chase.
A carrot was hung before me
And I was made to run.

Run....run......
Surpass others
Make sure you grab it
Before anyone.

The carrot went on
Changing its nature and color
Once you hung it for me
Now see, I have my own.

Once a compulsion
Now an instilled obsession
Drives me hard
Says, run and run.

Dropped humanity
Lost love
Stay behind;
Time for none.

Is it all I am here for?
Bother sometimes
A raising question.

Ode To The Artichoke

The artichoke
With a tender heart
Dressed up like a warrior,
Standing at attention, it built
A small helmet
Under its scales
It remained
Unshakeable,
By its side
The crazy vegetables
Uncurled
Their tendrills and leaf-crowns,
Throbbing bulbs,
In the sub-soil
The carrot
With its red mustaches
Was sleeping,
The grapevine
Hung out to dry its branches
Through which the wine will rise,
The cabbage
Dedicated itself
To trying on skirts,
The oregano
To perfuming the world,
And the sweet
Artichoke
There in the garden,
Dressed like a warrior,
Burnished
Like a proud
Pomegrante.
And one day
Side by side
In big wicker baskets
Walking through the market
To realize their dream
The artichoke army
In formation.
Never was it so military
Like on parade.
The men
In their white shirts
Among the vegetables
Were
The Marshals
Of the artichokes
Lines in close order
Command voices,
And the bang
Of a falling box.

But
Then
Maria
Comes
With her basket
She chooses
An artichoke,
She's not afraid of it.
She examines it, she observes it
Up against the light like it was an egg,
She buys it,
She mixes it up
In her handbag
With a pair of shoes
With a cabbage head and a
Bottle
Of vinegar
Until
She enters the kitchen
And submerges it in a pot.

Thus ends
In peace
This career
Of the armed vegetable
Which is called an artichoke,
Then
Scale by scale,
We strip off
The delicacy
And eat
The peaceful mush
Of its green heart.

Dormouse and a Ghost

This rare creature used to sleep all over the winter.
When the winter was over, one night the poor man heard
Somebody was scuffing the ragged doormat.
Then he slightly opened the door and peeped.
He saw it was scurrying away.
The next day at the same time
Scraping sound came.
He opened the door and kept a carrot on the mat.
This habit continued until the undernourished man died.
But it came as usual to the haunted house and there was always a carrot on the mat.

X Diary 07 Happy Sam And The Magic Horse

A Children's Tale

Once upon a time
There was a little boy called Happy Sam
Happy Sam lived in a house by a forest
With his mother and his father
And his baby brother
Lucky Peter
One day Happy Sam was walking in the forest
Further from home than he had been before
And he saw –
A HORSE
In the horse’s mouth there was –
A KEY
Happy Sam wanted that key
'HORSE'
Said Happy Sam
'GIVE ME THE KEY'
'Neigh'
Said the horse
Without letting go of the key
Well Happy Sam wanted that key really badly
So he thought
And he thought
And he had -
AN IDEA
Then he ran through the forest
And he ran through the garden
And he ran through the kitchen
And he ran to the refrigerator
And he found -
A CARROT
Then he ran back to the horse
And he said
'HERE HORSE
HAVE A CARROT! '
Well the horse wanted that carrot
So he opened his mouth to get it
And -
HE DROPPED THE KEY
Happy Sam caught the key
And he ran through the forest
And he ran through the garden
And he ran to his family
And he noticed for the first time
That in their hearts there were -
KEYHOLES
And he tried his new key
And he found that it -
JUST FITTED

Defiance Is Pure

the mere act of saying “no”
when others put a gun to your head &
want nothing more than your unmitigated
acquiescence,
is a moment that builds up the skeleton inside
it stands up against all odds
it does not waver in the harshest of winds
it does not convert itself to any tame rendition
it is focused & deliberate
it is as steadfast as a tightened fist in the air of
militant, violent, ceaseless
oppression &
like a concrete statue that is still left standing
after the hurricane has torn up all that encircles it
like taking a carrot grater to an unfortunate
carrot,
you stand defiant
you stand beautiful
you stand
honest.

Move Over

My first guest is one of the most exciting singers there is. some think the most exciting. we have extra stage hands to hold the roof down when she sings. if you have never seen janis joplin,
Is your chance. here is janis joplin!
Hey! this song's about rock & roll, and needs some help from the crowd. it goes like this. i can't hear ya!!
Hey! you say that it's over baby, lord,
You say that it's over dear,
But still you hang around me, come on,
Won't you move over.
Yeah! you know that i need a man, hey,
You know that i need a man,
But when i ask you to you just say
That you think you can.
Hey! please dontcha do it to me, babe, no!
Please dontcha do it to me, baby,
Either take the love i offer
Or let me be.
I ain't got no time for walking, no!
I ain't got no time for walking,
What's a poor girl gonna do with your life,
Life all just dangling ?
Hey! make up your mind, honey,
You're playing with me.
Make up your mind, honey,
You're playing with me,
I said now well either be my loving man,
Come on, let me honey, let me be, yeah!
You say that it's over, baby, huh!
You say that it's over dear,
But still you hang around me, come on,
Won't you move over.
Hey! you know that i need a man, baby,
You know that i need a man.
When i ask you to you just say
That you think you can.
I ain't quite a-ready for walking, no!
I ain't quite a-ready for walking,
'cause whatcha gonna do with your life,
Life all just dangling ?
Honey, i feel that it's dangling
Honey, lord, lord, lord.
It's like a carrot, baby now
Like a carrot, baby now
Like a carrot, baby now
Like a carrot, dear.
Oh! yeah! yeah! whew!
