Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.

I promise to keep on living as though I expected to live forever. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up wrinkles the soul.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Age may wrinkle the face, but lack of enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
Be young at heart
BE YOUNG AT HEART
With age you will grow old with years that pass,
But clinging to your ideals you're young in class! .
With age your skin may see wrinkles;
With enthusiasm your soul tinkles! .
With age surging emotions may calm,
But vigour makes you youthful and is a balm!
With age you'd have had chequered life's path-main,
But the hope in heart, will in you, let peace reign! .
With age you may lose your appetite,
But with the joy of living you're filled right!
With age don't bow down with pessimism,
But set up aerials and catch waves of optimism!
With age you may not barge into adventure,
But fill much will in your very nature!
With age don't sag your spirits but hold it high,
And you with youth, will be ever nigh!
With age you're high in life's ladder's rung,
But with lure of Nature you'll be ever young!
With age don't worry and yourself blame,
But have an unfailing trust in life's game!
With age you've criss-crossed many a trouble,
But with your iron resolution you'll ne'er stumble!
With age there may be a tarnish in your appearance,
But your inner-self should radiate effulgence!
With age you acquire abundant wisdom,
And can promote youngsters to stardom!
With age you'll be rich with experience,
Which will offer help to the young in their séance!
With age when illnesses creep into the system,
Take care for remedial action and them stem!
Age will thus have no immediate call of Death's clarion,
And you'll die young as an octogenarian
or even a nonagenarian!

They Always Ask...
someone yet have to ask
why young man do you talk and talk and talk?
the years weigh heavy on our shoulders
like ploughs and steel balls and iron chains
we grow old and wrinkles grow like
onions in a row
someone yet have to ask again
why all these deep silence for all those years?

I am lucky to have good Polish skin that doesn't wrinkle so I might be around for a few years yet.
The latest wrinkle is on wrinkles. There is a widespread belief that women can't grow old in television news.

Souls And Rain-Drops
Light rain-drops fall and wrinkle the sea,
Then vanish, and die utterly.
One would not know that rain-drops fell
If the round sea-wrinkles did not tell.
So souls come down and wrinkle life
And vanish in the flesh-sea strife.
One might not know that souls had place
Were't not for the wrinkles in life's face.

Years of Tears
Years of tears for no ears to hear, lonely for years am I
Years of tears for no ears to hear in silence they dropp and die
Years of tears, hidden deep, I cannot weep, nor cry.
Years of tears, for many fears of dying alone, I sigh.
Years of tears which no one hears as many years go by.
Years of tears in the lonely sky, my tears grow wings and fly.
Years of tears, my smile shines, through its little lines, I lie.
Years of tears, my somber peers through my melancholy eye
Tears of tears, Years of Years, in my soul, I tie.
Years of tears for no ears to hear my tears weep goodbye….

A Friendship Awakens
Sometimes it takes many years
for a friendship to awaken.
Many heartaches lay behind in its wake
as years go tumbling by.
Then suddenly the friendship awakens
and grows and grows and grows.
Feelings extend along a path
that was never there before.
A wealth of unconditional love
opens many doors
and your arms stretch out to embrace
what should have been there before,
but will never subside again.

The poem was written for a very special friend
whose friendship took over forty years to awaken.

When I heard that trees grow a new 'ring' for each year they live, I thought, we humans are kind of like that we grow a new layer of skin each year, and after many years we are thick and unwieldy from all of our skin layers.

She Who Wears The White Hairs
she who wears the white hairs
teaches me what to do with my life
i embrace her and take the clue
from the scent of her wisdom
earned by her for years and years
the weight burdening much
on her bare shoulders
her wrinkles speak of the struggles
of the past warring on the moles of her
cheeks the furrows where tears rush
and fall and then seep on the floor
i kiss her tonight for it is her birthday
and i whisper to her my gratitude
i smell the sweetness of her soul
and it sinks deeper into the recesses
of my heart: here is the lady who made me
i once remember the Chinese eyes in me
my brown skin so tight to my bones
my complacency removed from my youth
my mind soaring like a blithe spirit in the air
she was there all the days of my life
teaching, guiding and patiently noting
what i lack, what i need and what i must be
soon i shall have her white hairs too
her wrinkles her sad smile her own death
soon like her i will stand proud too
she did her best and we were brought to the test
she does not mind her passing we are ready for the timing
we shall switch roles, she dies we save more souls

Ultraviolence
Who saw those dark eyes
Who saw those dark eyes
These years gone by
Deep within
Burn my skin
All those years gone by
In the heat of the night
All those years gone by
Who felt those cold hands
Who felt those cold hands
Touch my skin
Deep within
Burn my soul
Fell to the ground
Where I was found
All those years ago
All those tears ago
All those years ago
Everybody makes mistakes
Everybody makes mistakes
Even me
Just be free
This is a place
Where in the end
It happens in
Our world within
Time to go
Time to go

A Lament
I know, I grow old….. I grow old
When silver threads peek in my head.
The flush on radiant cheeks wanes,
And a pallid tint creeps unseen.
Fading years have robbed the ardour
And a rigid sobriety sinks and settles.
I hear the howl of autumn winds,
That come to shake off the yellowing leaves.
Dragging tired feet through pavements
I try in vain to keep pace with the young.
Mind grows annoyed and distressed
As the bones beneath the skin go brittle.
The weary body spins rugged,
Like a rusted machine never overhauled.
The soul grows mutinous over things unknown
And reasons hard to trace.......!
There is a tumult in my silence
Like the undercurrents of calm waters.
Through miles on dreary miles of gloom
That stretch out before the eyes, endless,
Where can I find a quiet haven
To lower my burden and rest awhile?

I May Have Years To Go
I MAY HAVE YEARS TO GO
I may have years to go-
Many many years
In which I will continue to fail
In the same way
I have failed
In the many more years before.
The truth is
God could give me hundreds of years more
I would still be capable
Only of being myself -
Blessed are those given the gift of greatness by God
And long-troubled those who would be given it
And are not.

Visalakshi-2
Her husband died of a car accident.
It took place about three years ago.
Now she is free of encumbrances.
Hence I could talk to her as freely as
I did fifty two years back in her village
Where I met her, where we fell for each other.
I managed to get her phone number.
The last meeting of us was in her house
With her spouse, some twenty years ago.
She has married seven years after
Our episode, in the year I married,
Both being unaware of each other.
I saw her there after thirty two years
By when a lemon skinned beauty queen
Has turned into a dry skinned wrinkles.
I got her over phone and shared her grief.
She was upset, implying her bond with him.
She declined my offer of any meeting,
However incidental it might be.
‘Let us forget ours as a child game
With no renewal at this stage and age’
She said. Anxiety driven, she enquired
About me and family and my life.
Now she is seventy and weak as she told.
She is as old as me who am still robust.
It means we both were sweet seventeen
When we loved each other that went to
Being together with clothes stripped of
In her bolted room with a resolution
To elope, till we were caught red handed.
How quick a woman vomits her ex lover!

Reflection
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Why do I look in you, at all,
For all I see is the same old me,
And not how I so want to be.
Mirror, mirror on the stairs,
Why do you show me many years,
A face with wrinkles everywhere,
Would anybody like my share.
Mirror, mirror near my bed,
In you I look with certain dread,
For creams and potions just don't work,
Behind them still the wrinkles lurk.
Mirror, mirror in the hall,
Seeing you makes me recall,
That I am now of senior age,
Well stuck into the wrinkles stage.
Mirror, mirror by the door,
How I hate you more and more,
I'm having to look the other way,
When my reflection's on display.

Hit Single
You might have seen me hangin around
I never miss one night I could be on the town
I used to be another one like you
Always running home to that special one or two
And when I think of all the years of finding out
What I already knew
Now I spead myself around
And you can have 3 minutes too
cause Im a hit single
Lookin out for number one
I got a line or two that never fail
And every time you look around Ill be there on your tail
Im nothing special but I dont give in
Before you know it Ill be there right underneath your skin
And if you think that being serious and smart
Gets you where you should be
You must be not only joking
But way too heavy for me
cause Im a hit single
Goin straight to number one
And when I die and go to pure pop heaven
The angels will gather around
And ask me for my whole life story
And ask for that fabulous sound
But I know theyre gonna stop me
As I start going through every line
And say please not the whole damn album
Nobody has that much time
Please . . .
Just the hit single
You gotta love that number one
