This limerick goes in reverse
Unless I'm remiss
The neat thing is this:
If you start from the bottom-most verse
This limerick's not any worse.

Homework is always boring for me,
Im sure most of you can see.
''Can you write onomatopoeia? ''
The sadness of Ethan,
The Geek of Argintena
Is that even onamatopoeia?
''Can you do a limerick? ''
The bang of the thunder,
The creek of the stair,
The ticking of the clock,
And the squeak of the chair.
Is That even a limerick?
I DON'T KNOW! ! ! .....

No Limerick?
A poem presenting with rhyme
and which follows a rhythm in time
need not be what we call
a true Limerick at all
like a lemon, the cousin of lime.
Yet a limerick a lemon can be,
you could use a small slice for your tea.
Do not use it in fudge
and respect that the judge
is the man with no writing degree.

The Limerick
Edward Lear, poet and humorist
introduced the popular five-line
Limerick into England in the year
eighteen-twenty. I quote one
limerick by Edward himself,
followed by Starlite Cafe Poets:
Verse 1 - by Edward Lear:
There was a young lady of Riga
Who rode with a smile on a tiger
They returned from the ride
With the lady inside
And the smile on the face of the tiger.
Verse 2 - by John William McGrath:
There once was a man from Reno
Who went into a little casino
He lost all his pay
On that fateful day
To a fast-dealing young Philippino.
Verse 3 - by Joyce Hemsley:
There was a young lady from Hull
Who thought she was queen of them all
But to her surprise,
Not one of the guys
Asked her to dance at the Ball.

On Being Told That There Is No Rhyme For The Word “Limerick”
After I heard Harry’s limerick,
I found that my mind set to simmer. “Rick, ”
I said to myself,
“One might write it itself, ”
But I answered, “You’re chances are slimmer, Rick! ”
So I can’t find a good rhyme for Limerick.
Told myself, “ You are just a beginner, Rick
And though there’s no reason
You can’t write something decent,
I fancy your chances get grimmer, Rick! ”
He said that it might rhyme with turmeric
But I thought, “You’re not that fast a learner, Rick:
Ditch your thoughts wasting time
Finding suitable rhyme;
Let your plans, man, stand on the back burner, Rick.”
But the cogwheels had started to turn a bit
As I guessed I had started to learn a bit
And I might find a line
That rhymes Limerick fine
And might win me a prize, so I earn a bit.
But I thought, “Though there was just a glimmer, Rick.
You will think till you’re needing a zimmer, Rick,
Since the muse isn’t kind,
I am sure you’ll will find
Not a word that will rhyme fine with Limerick.”

Ahane's Own Mick Mackey
In his Limerick had a name to celebrate
Ahane's own Mick Mackey was a hurling great
Assured of his place in Hurling's Hall of Fame
In death as in life his a legendary name.
So many great hurlers the way of time have gone
But the legend of Mackey destined to live on
He is proclaimed to be the best of his time
And he must have been great when he was in his prime.
Mick Mackey the hurler broad shouldered and strong
The man who was honoured in story and song
He inspired Limerick to many a marvellous victory
And very few hurlers were as great as he.
He was never found wanting when put to the test
Ahane's own Mick Mackey he was Limerick's best
One of the famed Mackeys the legendary Mick
He weaved hurling magic with his caman stick.
Of his prowess of a great scoring forward he left none in doubt
And when hurling people talk of great hurlers his name is never left out
And though from the land of the living he may be long gone
As a hurling legend his name will live on.

Autobiograpical Poem
I am a simple poem,
It's plain for all to see.
No haiku, limerick or sonnet,
Just simple rhyme for me.
I'm on my second verse just now,
So soon it will be three.
Uncomplicated, very plain,
So easy, Oh! so free.
There are no causes I espouse,
For nothing I campaign,
I do not speak of love or lust,
I never speak of pain.
Some people say that I'm just words,
They don't know how I thrive.
I tell them I am born each day,
I'm very much alive.
I'm winding down towards the end,
Just another verse to go,
I've avoided all controversy,
I just went with the flow.
So here I am, sixth verse at last,
It's still plain for all to see
That if you keep it simple
You'd be a poem just like me!

Why are we addicted to Poetry?
We Poets who write,
All day or all night,
That Poetry! ! Poetry! ! Poetry! !
There’s scarce a moment in time,
That thoughts don’t find words in rhyme,
To put into verse,
Whether better or worse,
In that Poetry! ! Poetry! ! Poetry! !
Why do we write all these Verses?
We must have better things to do,
But whatever we try,
And I don’t know why,
We write Poem upon Poem for you.
It’s funny how my style has changed,
It’s a Limerick today I’ve composed,
It wasn’t meant to be,
But it is ~ you can see,
Just Poetry! ! Poetry! ! Poetry! !

Words That Move
Amazing are the words that move
Us like the sailing seeds of a poppy or
A freight train falling from the sky
A thousand pictures paint the words that
Fuel the fires of passion or drown the
Ambitious with agony. Words
So simple, so plainly profound flowing
With articulate expressions of
stuttering staccato
haiku and sonnet
free verse and rhyme
limerick and ode
So many ways to say one thing
So many things said just one way
Like the sailing
Freight falling
A thousand pictures
Fuel words so simple
With articulate
Verse to say
Amazing
are the words that move.

Limerick was, Dublin is, and Cork shall be the finest city of the three.
The 'Poem A Day' Project ~ Day 138
I want a poem that is quick
Something easy is the trick
So I think that I
Will have my first try
At doing a Limerick
The layout is very well tested
It’s simple and cannot be bested
The rhythm is neat
Fits the words to a treat
And not much mind powers invested
I am quite enjoying this style
After giving it a fair trial
It’s a quick way to write
Night after night
But’ll grow stale after a while
So maybe it isn’t my fate
To use this layout so great
But the light has diminished
And I find I am finished
So it got me through poem 1-3-8

Sorry, this limerick does not rhyme
Poetry just isn't in its prime
It rhymes, how astute!
Oh really? Oh shoot!
I'll think of another next time

Poetry is
Always at my side
Revealing to me all I need to see
Unafraid to expose every mark of beauty
And all scars from her past
Verse, song and limerick
Excitement, relief, and depression
Written or read, alive or dead
Lady of the night
Wrong and then right
Hypocritical, finicky, sexy words
Like a fine wine
First sampling the bouquet
Then sipping the sweetness
And quenching desire with
Bottoms up
Poetry is my pornography

An exquisite limerick must have a twist -
something to pop when least
you expect it
like a bit of wit -
or even at times a disproportionately long, unrhymed and out of meter last line.

Am told a limerick should have Anna Pest.
First of all let me say I have searched East and West
and found that no one sane
can go by that name
Who she is and what she does - is anybody's guess.

Creating a Limerick’s a cinch.
I’ve dashed them off in a pinch.
But my wife, I’m afraid
Snide comments she’s made.
Why must she be such a Grinch?

for some contest from which he foresaw
trophies all in a row
never ending which grow -
