Youngstown

Here in northeast ohio
Back in eighteen-o-threejames and dan heaton
Found the ore that was linin yellow creek
They built a blast furnacehere along the shor
And they made the cannonballs
That helped the union win the war
Here in youngstown
Here in youngstown
My sweet jenny Im sinkin down
Here darlin in youngstown
Well my daddy worked the furnaces
Kept em hotter than hell
I come home from nam worked my way to scarfer
A job thatd suit the devil as well
Taconite coke and limestone
Fed my children and made my pay
Them smokestacks reachin like the arms of god
Into a beautiful sky of soot and clay
Here in youngstown
Here in youngstown
My sweet jenny Im sinkin down
Here darlin in youngstown
Well my daddy come on the ohio works
When he come home from world war two
Now the yards just scrap and rubble
He said them big boys did what hitler couldnt do.
These mills they built the tanks and bombs
That won this countrys wars
We sent our sons to korea and vietnam
Now were wondering what they were dyin for
Here in youngstown
Here in youngstown
My sweet jenny Im sinkin down
Here darlinin youngstown
Here in youngstown
From the monongahela valley
To the mesabi iron range
To the coal mines of appalachia
The storys always the same
700 tons of metal a day
Now sir you tell me the worlds changed
Once I made you rich enough
Rich enough to forget my name
And youngstown
And youngstown
My sweet jenny Im sinkin down
Here darlin in youngstown
When I die I dont want no part of heaven
I would not do heavens work well
I pray the devil comes and takes me
To stand in the fiery furnaces of hell

I woke up around two
The sun was shinin on me
Pressed my jeans, cleaned my shoes
Filled up the ride and floored it
Top dropped down, vibe on cool
Lets see what flavors roamin

Dance Floor[Part 2]

Come on
Youngstown
Get down, get down
Chorus:
Theres no reason why the two of us should be alone
Baby come and lemme show you what you came here for
Babygirl Im tired of waiting for your favorite song
Youve been staring at me since I walked through the door
Meet me on the dance floor
Verse 1:
Im in the club feelin alright cuz tonight Im with my crew
Just chillin hittin it with youngstown you know how we get down
Then I saw you
Instantly felt your eyes around me, all around me
I feel your vibe
And then youre acting as if youre scared standing over there
Baby dont be shy
Chorus:
Theres no reason why the two of us should be alone
This feelings so strong so baby bring it on
Baby come and lemme show you what you came here for
Cause its you I adore so meet me on the dance floor
Babygirl Im tired of waiting for your favorite song
Just come follow my lead so we can get it on
Youve been staring at me since I walked through the door
And baby I cant take it no more
Meet me on the dance floor
Verse 2:
I feel the heat as you approach me looking lovely, youre so lovely
Hearts beating fast as you come closer thinkin that I want ya
My minds racing
Thinking about the things that we could do
Just me and you it would be so right
So let your friends chill at the table
Cuz baby youre mine tonight, yeah

Theres no reason why the two of us should be alone
This feelings so strong so baby bring it on
Baby come and lemme show you what you came here for
Cause its you I adore so meet me on the dance floor

Just come follow my lead so we can get it on
Youve been staring at me since I walked through the door
And baby I cant take it no more
Meet me on the dance floor
Bridge:
Meet me on the dance floor
Ill make your body want more
I just wanna feel the heat make ya move your feet
Make ya dance til your back is sore
Meet me on the dance floor
Ill make your body want more
If you aint come to dance all night then you aint right
Take your body out the door

Theres no reason why the two of us should be alone
This feelings so strong so baby bring it on

To My Father's Business

Leo bends over his desk
Gazing at a memorandum
While Stuart stands beside him
With a smile, saying,
'Leo, the order for those desks
Came in today
From Youngstown Needle and Thread!'
C. Loth Inc., there you are
Like Balboa the conqueror
Of those who want to buy office furniture
Or bar fixtures
In nineteen forty in Cincinnati, Ohio!
Secretaries pound out
Invoices on antique typewriters—
Dactyllographs
And fingernail biters.
I am sitting on a desk
Looking at my daddy
Who is proud of but feels unsure about
Some aspects of his little laddie.
I will go on to explore
Deep and/or nonsensical themes
While my father's on the dark hardwood floor
Hit by a couple of Ohio sunbeams.
Kenny, he says, some day you'll work in the store.
But I felt 'never more' or 'never ever'
Harvard was far away
World War Two was distant
Psychoanalysis was extremely expensive
All of these saved me from you.
C. Loth you made my father happy
I saw his face shining
He laughed a lot, working in you
He said to Miss Ritter
His secretary
'Ritt, this is my boy, Kenny!'
'Hello there Kenny,' she said
My heart in an uproar
I loved you but couldn't think
Of staying with you
I can see the virtues now
That could come from being in you
A sense of balance
Compromise and acceptance—
Not isolated moments of brilliance
Like a girl without a shoe,
But someone that you
Care for every day—
Need for customers and the economy
Don't go away.
There were little pamphlets
Distributed in you
About success in business
Each about eight to twelve pages long
One whole series of them
All ended with the words
'P.S. He got the job'
One a story about a boy who said,
'I swept up the street, Sir,
Before you got up.' Or
'There were five hundred extra catalogues
So I took them to people in the city who have a dog'—
P.S. He got the job.
I didn't get the job
I didn't think that I could do the job
I thought I might go crazy in the job
Staying in you
You whom I could love
But not be part of
The secretaries clicked
Their Smith Coronas closed at five p.m.
And took the streetcars to Kentucky then
And I left too.

Jenny Jenny

Every time I think of you
Yeah, even this much later
I wish there was something I could do
But I guess youre still the same
You do almost anything but stop the fight
Never surrender, you just tough it out all night
And I think of the little things we used to do
And I think of the way that hes been treating you
And Ill ask you once again
Jenny jenny, what happened to you?
How can you stand for what you put yourself through?
And I think of the little things we used to do
And I think of the way that hes been treating you
And Ill ask you once again
Jenny jenny, what happened to you?
With your picture in my hand
I dont even know what Im feeling
Ill stop trying to understand
I just wish I could reach out to you
Reach out so far across the sea
And sometimes as the baby sleeps I know you think of me
And you think of the little things we used to do
And you cant understand the way hes treating you
So Ill ask you once again
Jenny jenny, what happened to you?
How can you stand for what you put yourself through?
When I think of the way we always used to be
And you know that hell never love you more than me
So Ill ask you once again
Jenny jenny, what happened to you?

Sweet Darlin

Sweet darlin
You saved me
Im hummin
From the lovin
You gave me
You went so far
Where my feelings are
Breathing heaven fire
Sweet darlin
I know you
You stopped running
You knew I had something
To show you
The fever tamed
Like an angel came
Made music of my name
Sweet darlin
Early that morning we knew I had to fly
Engines were screaming and still I was asking myself why
High on the wind I was feeling my sweet darlin cry
My heart was breaking
I closed my eyes
Darlin
Can you hear me
We cant be wrong
The nights song
Pulls you near me
Time just falls
Distance small
I feel you all
Sweet darlin

Whiskey In The Jar

I was a-goin over gilgarra mountain
I met with captain farrell, and his money he was countin.
First I drew my pistols and then I drew my rapier,
Sayin stand and deliver, for I am your bold deceiver.
Musha ringum duram da,
Whack fol the daddy-o,
Whack fol the daddy-o,
Theres whiskey in the jar.
He counted out his money and it made a pretty penny;
I put it in my pocket to take home to jenny.
She sighed and swore she loved me and never would deceive me,
But the devil take the women, for they always lie so easy!
Musha ringum duram da
I went into me chamber all for to take a slumber,
To dream of gold and girls, and of course it was no wonder:
Me jenny took me charges and she filled them up with water,
Called on captain farrell to get ready for the slaughter.
Musha ringum duram da
Next mornin early, before I rose for travel,
Up came a band of footmen and likewise captain farrell.
I goes to draw my pistol, for shed stole away my rapier,
But I couldnt shoot for water, so a prisoner I was taken
Musha ringum duram da
They put me into jail with a judge all a-writin:
For robbin colonel farrell on gilgarra mountain.
But they didnt take me fists and I knocked the jailer down
And bid me a farewell to this tight-fisted town.
Musha ringum duram da
Id like to find me brother, the one whos in the army;
I dont know where hes stationed, be it cork or in killarney.
Together wed go roamin oer the mountains of kilkenny,
And I swear hed treat me fairer than my darlin sportin jenny!
Musha ringum duram da
Theres some that takes delight in the carriages and rollin,
Some that takes delight in the hurley or the bollin,
But I takes delight in the juice of the barley,
Courtin pretty maids in the mornin, o so early!
Musha ringum duram da

Jenny Pazza

Jenny non vuol pi parlare
non vuol pi giocare
vorrebbe soltanto dormire
Jenny non vuol pi capire
sbadiglia soltanto
non vuol pi nemmeno mangiare.
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire.
Jenny ha lasciato la gente
a guardarsi stupita
a cercar di capire che cosa
Jenny non sente pi niente
non sente le voci
che il vento le porta.
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire.
Io che l'ho vista piangere di gioia e ridere
e pi di lei la vita credo mai nessuno am
io non vi credo lasciatela stare
voi non potete...
Jenny non pu pi restare
portatela via
rovina il morale alla gente
Jenny sta bene
lontano
la curano
forse
potr anche guarire un giorno.
Jenny pazza
c' chi dice anche questo
Jenny pazza
c' chi dice anche questo.
Jenny ha pagato per tutti
ha pagato per noi
che restiamo a guardarla ora
Jenny soltanto un ricordo
qualcosa di amaro
da spingere gi in fondo.
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire
Jenny stanca
Jenny vuole dormire...

Jenny Dreamed Of Trains

This song was first released on the all aboard! album. it is the only album it has been released on.
When jenny was a little girl, she only dreamed of trains
She never played with dolls or lacy kinds of things
Jenny counted boxcars instead of counting sheep
She could go anywhere when she went to sleep
All she ever talked about was getting on to ride
She was living in another time you could see it in her eyes
And every day after school shed head down to the track
Waiting for the train that was never coming back
Jenny dreamed of trains
When the nighttime came
Nobody knew how she made it come true
Jenny dreamed of trains
The depots been boarded up, the rails have turned to rust
There hasnt been a train through here since the mill went bust
No one believed her when she said she heard the train
Said she was just a little girl acting kind of strange
Jenny dreamed of trains
When the nighttime came
Nobody knew how she made it come true
Jenny dreamed of trains
Jenny laid a penny on the track one day
In God we trust she walked away
The very next morning all she could find
Was a little piece of copper squashed flatter than a dime
Jenny dreamed of trains
When the nighttime came
Nobody knew how she made it come true
Jenny dreamed of trains
Nobody knew how she made it come true
Jenny dreamed of trains

Home, sweet home is home with daddy!

I look at the familiar house I call home
I am back home, sweet home after the journey
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home
There's no place like home, oh, there's no place like home!
Home, sweet home is home with daddy!

I look at Daddy's children, full of expectations
The young man with soiled hands, still jumping on Daddy
The young lady wanting to tell Daddy all the stories of school
It does not matter that Daddy is tired! Daddy is always daddy
Home, sweet home is home with daddy!

I know I have to travel again from home tomorrow
I may go to the nice places, be they palaces or hotels
Marble floors sparkling with reflections of cleanliness
But they are not as homely as home with daddy
Home, sweet home is home with daddy!

I look at everybody wanting to know about the trip of daddy
Everybody wants to know what daddy has brought
Everybody is happy to see daddy home
Daddy is always strong, no tiredness even when tired
Home, sweet home is home with daddy!

Come

Think of me, sweet darlin
When everything is going bad
Think of me, sweet darlin
Every time youre feeling sad
Think of me, sweet darlin
Every time you dont come
Can you feel the fever?
Think of me, sweet darlin
Every time things get rough
Think of me, sweet darlin
When the best just isnt enough
Think of me, sweet darlin
Every time you dont come
Can you feel the fever?
Cause nobody else is doing it oh
Nobody else is doing it oh no
Suffer how many ways [no clue, man]
Love was a little these days
Said I was going to put her away
Shes been here a while
Living in the guest room
I guess she goes in style
I said I was going to put the girl away
But I just cant make her go
Can you feel the fever?
Now I lay me down to sleep
In this enemy bed
Tomorrow morning I will wake up
Hurtin from the things we said
One thing leads to another
But I guess you know about that
Can you feel the fever?
Think of me, sweet darlin
Every time you dont come

Old Jenny

The children taunt old Jenny they say you can't chew meat
And you must eat your porridge you don't have any teeth
They call her Gummy Jenny and then they run away
And when she yells 'you go to hell' it only makes their day.

But children will be children they still have much to learn
And the difference between fun and harassment they have yet to discern
By making Jenny angry such fun in that they see
And if she did not react to them perhaps they'd leave her be

She lives on retirement pension in need of every cent
It's a struggle for her just to survive to buy food and pay rent
One of the forgotten people one of the many who
Deserve better in their old age respect is overdue.

Condemned to suffer the jeers and taunts of every young blaghguard
For all of the Jenny's of this World life must be very hard
Some children have fun taunting her to cruelty they are blind
Though many are far more aware and are not so unkind.

Some children taunt old Jenny she shouts 'you go to hell'
And they run off on down the street and laugh loud as she yell
Condemned in her twilight years to suffer the ridicule
Of naughty little rascals who have only started school.

Back O The Moon

[ music: dennis drew/lyric: natalie merchant ]
Jenny
Jenny you dont know the nights I hide
Below a second story room
To whistle you down
The man whos let to divvy up
Time is a miser
Hes got a silver coin
Only lets it shine for hours
While you sleep it away
Theres one rare and odd style of living
Part only known to the everybody jenny
A comical wheres the end parade
Of the sort people here would think unusual
Jenny
Tonight upon the mock brine of a luna sea
Far off we sail on to back o the moon
Jenny
Jenny you dont know the days Ive tried
Telling backyard tales
So to maybe amuse
O your mood is never giddy
If you smile Im delighted
But youd rather pout
Such a lazy child
You dare fold your arms
Tisk and say that I lie
Theres one rare and odd style of thinking
Part only known to the everybody jenny
The small step and giant leap takers
Got the head start in the race toward it
Jenny
Tonight upon the mock brine of a luna sea
Far off we sail on to the back o the moon
That was a sigh
But not meant to envy you
When your age was mine
Some things were sworn true
Morning would come
And calendar pages had
New printed seasons on
Their opposite sides
Jenny
Jenny you dont know the nights I hide
Below a second story room
To whistle you down
O the man whos let to divvy up
Time is a miser
Hes got a silver coin
Lets it shine for hours
While you sleep it away
Theres one rare and odd style of living
Part only known to the everybody jenny
Out of tin ships jump the bubble head boys
To push their flags into powdered soils and cry
No second placers
No smart looking geese in bonnets
Dance with pigs in high button trousers
No milk pail for the farmers daughter
No merry towns of sweet walled houses
Here Ive found
Back o the moon
Not here
Ive found
Back o the moon

My Darling

Go back to sleep now
My darlin
And I'll keep all the bad dreams away
Breathe now, think sweet things
And I'll think of all the right words to say
Because we made you
My darlin
With the love in each of our hearts
We were a family, my darlin
Right from the start
Grow up now
My darlin
Please don't you grow up too fast
And be sure, darlin
To make all the good times last
Because we made you

Sorrow In The Wind

(jean ritchie)
I hear the soft wind sighing
In every bush and tree
The sound of my heart crying
When you are far from me
When were apart, my darlin
Theres sorrow in the wind
When were apart, my darlin
Sweet sorrow in the wind
You leave me in the morning
Your footsteps die away
Tho not a leaf is stirring
I hear the wind all day
When were apart, my darlin
Theres sorrow in the wind
When were apart, my darlin
Sweet sorrow in the wind
They say when love grows older
It dies and fades away
Yet all our life together
One ever brightening day
When were apart, my darlin
Theres sorrow in the wind
When were apart, my darlin
Sweet sorrow in the wind

Pop Goes The World

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,
Pop goes the world, by men without hats
Johnny played guitar, jenny played bass.
Name of the band is the human race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.
Jenny played keyboard, johnny played drums,
Called little baby and a big bonhomme
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.
It goes something like this: (p p p pop)
Johnny and jenny had a crazy dream,
See their pictures in a magazine.
Every little boy needs a girl.
Pop goes the world.
Jenny and johnny getting smart (it seems)
Made more money on a movie screen.
Every little nest needs a bird.
Pop goes the world.
One two three and four is five,
Everybody here is a friend of mine.
Whatever happened to the duke of earl?
Pop goes the world.
Six seven eight and nine is ten,
Send al gunn to see the doctor (ben)
Say what planet are we on? the third!
Pop goes the world.
And every time I wonder where the world went wrong,
End up lying on my face going ringy dingy ding dong
And every time I wonder if the world is right,
End up in some disco dancin all night & day.
Johnny played guitar, jenny played bass,
Name of the band is the human race.
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.
Johnny played guitar, jenny played bass,
Aint nobody couldnt take their place.
Everybody tell me have you heard? pop goes the world.....
