The Meat
Fibrillose like a centipede and counting backwards
From the laundry or the arcade,
Following the bred crumbs and the beer cans until your
Hair was yellow again.
And you were just a freshman emptied into his class
In a school that was just finding its legs,
While cicadas skipped themselves discardingly amidst
The over red blooms of the bromeliad
Outside by the archipelagos of landscaping where the
Bicycles hid
And the grass was mowed just as orderly as housewives
And they had firedrills that took you outside so you could
Be all by yourself until the pretty girl who played
Soccer who you would never make love with
Came over to occupy a space near you, both of you bared
To the sun- underneath an important sapling
Until you skipped school to go to Spain and Michigan,
And the fair came around selling you the caesuras of unnatural
Haunts that seem to give you angels, only to Indian give you
Back to yourself, until you became and echo
That resounded with the spent fireworks of an obsolete religion
Rising and dying repeatedly like an orchestra of red devils
Playing baseball and the meat of your own hand.

In Nostalgia's Brutal Junk Heap
Yellow rainbows smile upside down from
Cheap liquor bottles
In those retired rodent neighborhoods where dogs
Take charge
And fleas hold circus; they are all in love with the
Gamy mermaid who takes her bath of tricks
Sometimes when right before
The ice-cream man perambulates with his cursing
Wind-chimes,
His balmy vanilla fireworks: She takes all the dimes
That would’ve been his
From the bicycles of adolescent kisses;
And then she swims away, swearing that she’ll make
It all the way to Spain,
But she never does- She just gets to Lake Worth
And then dances topless for bikers;
And I would have liked to see her before she was all spent
In a house of bruises underneath the palmettos,
Their suppliant cutlery that is peppered by cicadas-
But for these scars, they make me sad and agoraphobic
And I just watch all the sallow girls playing soccer,
Their knees in bits of rashes
Crenellated in the absence of colors of ancient newspaper;
And by my tomorrow, they’ll all be sad and hung-over,
Would-be super models, now housewives with their
Elicit stashes-
The mermaids weeping with only bitter star fruit to eat,
Spider monkeys going bananas on each of their irritated teets;
UFOs fluttered in the landscaping, and their big-eyed captains
Sprawled out drunk in her bushes;
I would have given it all just to be one of their pubescent
Rashes- and the rains come sweating- And I
Am a vagrant on the squeaking swing-set in the suburban
Cages the cops patrol showing off their badges- They have caught
Me out of time,
And all I can do is look at them sideways, trying to give them
The best angle, so I might wriggle off this ancient hook
And escape the rotten meat brigades attracting such beautiful
Suburban flies going out to lunch
In nostalgia’s brutal junk heap.

A School Is So Not Cool
School Is Not So Cool
School, School, School,
A school is not cool
We're here 5 days a week
8 hours a day.
School, School, School,
A school is not cool.
People laugh when we fall
we just have to make a call.
School, School, School
A school is not cool.
We have to work hard to get good grades
I'm not going to do it no more
I do it every day.
We can’t go on the grass
We can’t bother another class
We can’t save spots at lunch
We have to go as a bunch.
We have 3 minutes in the hall
I'm always late what a ball.
We have to pay attention
if not we get detention.
School, School, School,
A school is not cool.
They have too many rules
they play us as fools
if we get A's
the parents jump Hip Hip Hooray.
If we get F's
we tell them we need to take a rest.
We always have homework
we never have class work
they have to many rules
they need to take it cool.
School, School, School,
A school is so not cool!

Summers Past
climbing trees
skinned up knees
the smell of fresh mowed grass
roller kates with big yellow wheels
showing off
racing down hills
playing games of truth or dare
falling from trees
but you don't care
barbie and ken making out
mom walks in
starts freaking out
bee stings and mosquito bites
all those silly childhood fights
fireworks that light the sky
tricking little sis into eating mud pie
peeling a sunburn was oh so cool
hey no running at the pool
boys were rotten
girls were dandy
pop rocks
and that hard rock candy
slinkys and silly puddy
running through sprinklers
getting muddy
and the smell of fresh mowed grass
counting the days til school starts again
too bad childhood has to end

On Their Soft Brown Skin
It seems real that my joy is drunken:
My heart burns like peeling glass, the dogs run underneath
The overpasses and after class:
The cars motors purr, stamped by housewives, swaying in
The caesuras of their dreams,
Shopping, bearing the negligee that is hardly even there,
Like the spit of rainbows on her brown skin,
As her children come back home from school again;
And I wonder how her soft brown kisses feel on their
Soft brown skin.

Girl
(coverdale/marsden/murray)
I have never known a woman
Who loves me like you do,
You treat me like a dog
An make me shake my tail for you
I know the game youre playing
When youre turning all your tricks
Its written on your face
You just want your business fixed
No, I dont need a crystal ball
To see whats in your mind
If I dont give you what you want
You treat me so unkind,
But if Im good and give you love
You throw me down a bone,
But if Im bad you make me sad
An leave my love alone
Pretty little crazy white girl,
Just a pretty little crazy white girl,
Pretty little crazy white girl
Girl, girl
Pretty little crazy white girl
I know, baby, you aint fooling
With all your high class schooling,
You want everything your own way
If I could, I would
Do every little thing a good man should,
Baby, Id really give it to you
Every day
Pretty little crazy white girl,
Just a pretty little crazy white girl,
Pretty little crazy white girl
Girl...
Mean mistreater,
There aint no one to beat you,
But you treat me so bad
Ive never known a woman
Who loves me like you do,
You treat me like a dog
An still I shake my tail for you
Pretty little crazy white girl,
Just a pretty little crazy white girl,
Pretty little crazy white girl
Girl, girl...
Pretty little crazy white girl,
Girl, she treat me so bad
Pretty little crazy white girl,
Girl, come on baby
Pretty little crazy white girl,
I love the way you make me
Girl...
Pretty little crazy white girl,
Girl...
Pretty little crazy white girl

Your mom came out with just a towel o-o-o-on

The Great Defender
Down at the arcade the defender is there
Down off of broadway he's there playing his games
It's very dangerous
Putting money down on robotron
Oh, i'm the great defender
And i really know just how to get along
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Oh, i'm the great defender
And i really think i've got it made
A fistful of quarters, a fifty dollar stake
Life is a gamble on video tape
I called a disc jockey
To dedicate a song to blair
It's the temps. singing "i'll be there"
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Oh, i'm the great defender
And i really think i've got it made
The president called to give me the news
I've been awarded the nobel price in rhythm and blues
And stevie wonder
Wants to record one of my songs
Oh, i'm the great defender
And i really know just how to get along
Oh, i'm the great defender, listen to my song
I really hope you like it, it isn't very long
It's rooted in the 50s
But its heart's in 1984
And if you really like it
Then i sing it for you once more
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Oh, i'm the great defender
And i really think i've got it made
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade, down at the arcade
Down at the arcade
Down at the arcade

A time
Not so long ago
Was a school boy
He was tender in the heart
In the very same school class
Was a young school girl
Very smart,
Locked inside his empty shyness
This school boy
Wanted to, , ,
Talk to this pretty girl
Boldly, this day,
She set her hair in sophisticated curls
And what he wanted to say, , , was
Can you,
'Come out and play'
Inside he thought
I will do this, just on another day..
In the month of February
Exchanging cards was customary
On this school girls desk
Sat a box
Skilfully decorated
And craftily created
In the colors of the season
Red, Bright and White
Wow, the boy thought
'What a glaring sight'!
A little slot cut on the top
A place to make a dropp
Secure and sealed this
Decorated box
Its job was
Safeguarding all her precious
Little cards
Breaking from his school boy shyness
Reaching inside his pocket
Where kept his
Hand painted card
Drawn upon the white paper
Is his little heart

The Great American Success Story
He was born in a depressed nation
Started tough and worked his way right off the street
Thumbed his nose at a graduation
Wheeled and dealed, his education was complete
He's got all his hair, but his life is a wreck
Always been a brat, he don't get no respect
He's got the time, he's got the money
You better get out of his way
You better watch out for him, sonny
Back to school
He's gonna take that plunge
Gonna jump back in there
Back to school
He's gonna shape his mind
Gonna shed old skin there
Back to school
Spent some time in appreciation of finer arts
And the human body mysteries
Scoring high in procreation
Got an 'A' in the study of female anatomy
He thinks about his teacher in his literary class
He's staring at her legs
But he's dreaming 'bout her face
He's got the time
He's got the money
You better get out of his way
You better watch out for him, sonny
Back to school
He's gonna take that plunge
Gonna jump back in there
Back to school
He's gonna shape his mind
Gonna shed old skin there
Back to school

Be True To Your School
When some loud braggart tries to put me down
And says his school is great
I tell him right away
Now whats the matter buddy
Aint you heard of my school
Its number one in the state
So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school
I got a lettermans sweater
With a letter in front
I got for footbal and track
Im proud to where it now
When I cruise around
The other parts of the town
I got a decal in back
So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school
On friday well be jacked up on the football game
And Ill be ready to fight
Were gonna smash em now
My girl will be working on her pom-poms now
And shell be yelling tonight
So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school
Rah rah rah be true to your school

The Yellow School Bus
The yellow school bus with the black wheels took sick children to school each day.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels was driven whether or not the sky was gray.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels went pass three streets and up a hill.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels was driven whether sunny or chilled.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels always brought a smile to little kids face.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels was filled with love and filled with grace.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels kept breathing until that final breath.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels was painted red with blood and death.
The yellow school bus with the black wheels and the little sick children were all of friends.
But the now dead children will never take a ride in the yellow school bus again.

The Auctioneer
Hey well all right sir, open the gate
Letem out and walkem boys
Here we come with lot number twenty-nine
What are you gonna give for the little fella
Well there was a boy from arkansas who wouldnt listen to his ma
When she told him that he should go to school
Hed sneak away in the afternoon and take a walk and pretty soon
Youd find him at the local auction barn
Hed stand and listen carefully until at last he began to see
How the auctioneer could talk so rapidly
He said oh my, its do or die, Ive got to learn that auction cry
Gonna make my mark and be an auctioneer
Well the time went by and he did his best and all could see he did not jest
He practiced calling bids both night and day
Til his pappy found him behind the barn just working up an awful storm
As he tried to imitate the auctioneer
His pop said son we just cant stand to have a mediocre man
Selling things at auction using our good name
Gonna send you off to auction school and then youll be nobodys fool
And you can take your place among the best
And from that boy that went to school there grew a man who played it cool
He come back home a full fledged auctioneer
And the people would come from miles around
Just to hear him make that rhythmic sound
That filled their hearts with such a happy cheer
And his fame spread out from shore to shore
Hed all that he could do and more
He had to buy a plane to get around
Now hes the best in all the land, lets pause and give that man a hand
For hes the best of all the auctioneers

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start
Today was a good day.
I didn't even have to use my a.k.
At least i didn't get my heart broken anyway
Wasting time in east new jersey.
Guess i could tell you 'bout
The snow covered rooftops,
Sunsets, shooting stars and picturesque backdrops.
Or how i went and hung out at quick-stop
And pretended that i was in clerks.
Sometimes you gotta stop and remember
That your not gonna live forever.
Be young, think smart, stay true
And just follow your heart.
Remember the times we watched "karate kid"
And memorized every line
Skipped school and went to the arcade
Hung out and played galaga all day.
Stole a car and we drove to michigan.
600 miles with no destination.
Except to get in the car and drive
And see where we'll end up.
Sometimes you gotta stop and remember.
That your not gonna be young forever.
Think smart, have fun, stay true
And don't ever grow up.
Out of all i've learned in life
You always keep your friends close to your heart.
'cause who will help you if you're falling down.
And everything is o.k.

The Boys I Went To School With
We played football in the school yard and we swam in the Finnow
But the years go by so quickly and to father time we bow
And the boys I went to school with perhaps now looking gray
And many of them from the Homeland shore like me live far away.
Many of the boys I went to school with and that's going back more than four decades in time
Are now ageing grand fathers and years beyond their prime
And those legs that could move so quickly some forty years ago
Now feeling tired and heavy and their fastest pace is slow.
The boys I went to school with have known a better day
And that time takes care of everyone it would be fair to say
Our young years went too quickly and time just flitted by
And on looking back it seems like only yesterday when I was a school boy.
Some of the boys I went to school with to the grim reaper have gone
But life back in the old Hometown as usual carries on
And in the fields near Millstreet Town where the rank rushes grow
The Finnow on towards Drishane and the Blackwater flow.
Most of the boys I went to school with I have not seen for years
But for my fading memories I don't have any tears
We played football in the school yard and in Summer swam in the Finnow
But the years go by so quickly and to father time we bow.

Boyhood
Boyhood Remembered
Mother and her sister played poker when I came out of the bedroom looking
for my trousers, but mother had just lost them to Aunt Gabriella who refused
to give them back. I sat by the coal fire and warmed my knees; winter with frost
roses on windows. Without long trousers I could not go to school, the idea of this
pleased me, I began reading a Robin Hood book. I didn’t care so much for him,
he was in love with a girl, but I liked the other ones in his gang. “Here, ” mother
said, “I have won back your trousers, your shoes as well; go to school now.” I was
going to take the bike out of the shed, but a monster rat sat there.
” Mother” I yelled, “There is a big rat in the shad it is eating the tires off my bike.”
Mother dropped the cat out of the window, from our third floor flat, just caught it.
“Put the cat in the shed, ” walk to school, it is good for you biking makes you lazy.”
My sister came with a crate of beer she had bought at the supermarket, ” you are
just like little girl frighten by a tiny rat, ” she said, took the bike out, put the dazed
cat on top of the crate and walked in. I was one hour late for school, but there was
no use telling the teacher why, he would only say I was telling tales as usual.

What Is School Like?
School is like a prison
We can’t leave,
School is like an island
We are all trapped,
School is like a pie
It is good at first until you reach the crust,
School is like a toilet
It is full of germs,
School is like a salad
You have to put something on it to make it better,
School is like a stupid cat
It never dies,
School is like a garbage truck
It smells, it’s big and you can here it from a mile away,
School is like a baby
It always needs your attention,
School is like a shark
It just keeps chasing,
School is like going to jail
You never want to go back,
