Strange (narrative poem)
i bumped into a guy
he said watch out
i said hi
he pushed me out
out into the street i go
honk honk the cars go
bump the big truck hits me
and all the cars drive over me
the powpow pulled his gun out
and shot the man on his mouth
and there i landed lost my life
lonely in a silent night

Cars Are Cars
Words & music by paul simon 1983
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Similarly made. similarly sold
In a motorcade. abandoned when theyre old
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Engine in the front. jack in the back
Wheels take the brunt. pinion and a rack
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
But people are strangers
They change with the curve
From time zone to time zone
As we can observe
They shut down their borders
And think theyre immune
They stand on their differences
And shoot at the moon
But cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Drive em on the left. drive em on the right
Susceptible to theft in the middle of the night
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
I once had a car
That was more like a home
I lived in it, loved in it
Polished its chrome
If some of my homes
Had been more like my car
I probably wouldnt have
Travelled this far
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world
Cars are cars all over the world

Honk If You Honky Tonk
Well, I got a bumper sticker
On the back of my truck
There aint another like it
Cause I had it made up
I can tell whos behind me
They give themselves away
Lay on their horn when they read this phrase
Chorus:
Honk if you honky tonk
Dont if you dont
But, if you do
Dont you love to
Honk if you honky tonk
Me and Friday night go hand in hand
Ice cold beer and a swingin band
A girl on my arm that wont let go
She caught my little sign about a mile ago
Repeat Chorus
Well, just the other day I was cruisin through town
Sheriff pulled me over, I thought I had it now
I rolled down my window, he said with a grin
I want one of them stickers or Im gonna run you in.
Repeat Chorus twice
Honk if you honky tonk
I hear ya honkin, yeah
Im pullin over,
Lets honky tonk

Every Hoodie Has His Big Honk
New words pop up everyday
to add in the dictionary.
Now one of the later words is Hoodie
to go with the collection.
Now a Hoodie is someone
who looks a bit like a Monk.
However, what is the first thing that you see
when you spot one of them,
it is their trademark,
and I’m not talking about the hood,
I’m talking about their honk
that stretches out from within.
The bigger the honk,
the bigger the hood
to try to cover it.
Now Mick Jagger has his lips,
but a Hoodie always has his honk.
Everyone one is different,
just like a fingerprint,
even Scotland Yard have started
a new records department
and it is called the Honkers Records Office
with thousands of photographs of Honks
peering out from under hoods.
Soon your Passport photograph
will not be displaying a picture of you,
but just a picture of your honk.
Even the people at the Guinness Book of Records
have started a new section called
Honkers of the world.
The biggest honk is owned by
Eliza Shrinking Violet
with one all of 64 inches long.
Pinocchio came in second place.
He could be first next year
as his honk is still growing.

Yesterdays Toys
Girls I watch them Girls.
Girls new at university brained.
Girls Girls different all focused.
Girls some seemingly scatter-brains.
Spreading nonsense squawks
honk honk honking drains.
Them Girls Like Them Boys
Discarding Lectures Like Yesterdays Toys.

Outside Life
While walking through
that jungle of concrete
that I call my home
where all the houses seem
glued together
and the cars honk
at the j-walking civilians
where the billboards and ads
scream to you
from high in the air
I stop to think
(in all that hustle and bustle)
what life is like
outside of this place

The Last Sundowner
He sat upon a fallen log
And heaved a long, deep sigh.
His gnarled hand fondling his old dog
As his gaze went to the sky.
"There goes another pane," said he
"A soarin', roarin' pest!
They robs a man of privacy,
An' motor cars of rest."
"Sundownin' ain't the game ut was
Since men have took to wings;
An' life grows narrer, jist because
Of plans an' cars an' things.
For the planes have pinched me privit skies
An' the cars have grabbed me earth
An' all the news by wireless flies;
So what's sundownin' worth?
"Time was when I could sit me down
Where man had left no sign,
An' earth an' sky for miles aroun'
For that one hour was mine.
And I could sit an' think me thorts
An' watch the sun go west
Without no crazy ingine's snorts
To break into me rest.
"And as the afternoon grew late
I'd seek the haunts of men,
An' at some lonely homestead gate
I'd have sure welcome then;
An' tucker-bags were gladly filled,
And rest found for my back,
In ‘change for bits of news I spilled
And gossip of the track.
"But now that wireless spreads its lies
From this and other lands,
They look on me with hard, cold eyes
An' give with grudgin' hands.
It's them that has to give me news;
And when I seek some wide,
Once silent scene, planes spoil me views,
An' cars honk me aside."
He sat upon a fallen log
And heaved a long, deep sigh:
"We're agein', me an' my ole dog,
An' old things have to die.
Sundownin's dead; men's minds an' ways
Is changin' with a jerk.
Seems like I'll have to end me days,
Travellin'; in search of work."

Cars
Cars
Almost everybody has one, but what little thought we give them.
We drive our cars to work and school but even then we don't give our cars much thought.
You go from one exteme to the other, one guy might pay about $20,000 for a car, while another may pay $150,000 for a car.
Cars are an earthly object, yet we all see people that go overboard with their cars.

Safe And Sound
Jesus, and the third world poets
carrying their dying children
across the starvation desert...
the stench of disease,
poverty, and dead eyed
hopelessness, ... hangs
in the indifferent air.
if you dont know their names
they're not real, just pictures
on the news you turn off...
finish your supper,
throw out the scraps;
get in your cars, and
go for a drive...
turn up the radio!
speed up! roll up your
windows... safe, and sound....
honk if you love Jesus!

Without Someone
I watch the cars move
I watch the lights up on the window
I walk along the street
Im only thinking of you
I watch the clock staring from the wall
It hardly moves at all
Its you Im waiting for.
Chorus:
Without someone I can depend on
Im lost without someone
As I go on, I hope youre remembering Im lost without someone.
All alone, no one around
I watch the shadows falling faster
The city lights begin to glow
And then I start to realize
I count the hours as they slip away
Into another day
Wondering where youll stay.
Repeat chorus
Still watching the cars move
Still watching the lights upon the window
Im walking down the street
Im only thinking of you
I hear the night as it calls to me
It plays a symphony
It says youre gone from me.
Repeat chorus

Georgia Peaches
(ronnie vanzant -- steve gaines)
Well, you can see her walkin down on peachtree street
She got high-heeled shoes and a dot on her cheek
Shes lookin good, shes headed downtown
Aint got no money, honey
She knows her way around
I think shes cute, think shes cute as she can be
Talkin about a funny talkin, honk-tonking georgia peach
Well these georgia peaches
Son they know their way around
They can take your money, son before you get sight of town
Well they talk a little funny, but they look so fine
Nine out of ten of them gonna sell you a dime
I think theyre cute, think theyre cute as they can be
Talkin about a funny talkin, honk-tonking georgia peach
Well, peaches, peaches
Love them georgia peaches
Well, peaches, peaches
Love them georgia peaches
Well them georgia peaches
Sure do got the style
Theyll steal your heart with a southern smile
Well they talk a little funny, but they look so fine
The older they get, I swear its like good wine
I think theyre cute, think theyre cute as they can be
Talkin about a funny talkin, honk-tonking georgia peach
Talkin about a funny talkin, honk-tonking georgia peach
I just seem to fall in love with the wrong things

Cars
Cars
Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
Its the only way to live
In cars
Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for ( nights )
- this is the only wrong word you put days
In cars
Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please?
If I open my door
In cars
Here in my car
I know Ive started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars

Made Of Stone (808 State Remix)
Your knuckles whiten on the wheel
The last thing that your hands will feel
your final flight can't be delayed
No earth just sky it's so serene
Your pink fat lips let go a scream
You fry and melt I love the scene
Sometimes I fantasize
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Don't these times fill your eyes
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Are you all alone
Is anybody home?
I'm standing warm against the cold
Now that the flames have taken hold
At least you left your life in style
And for as far as I can see
Tin twisted grills grin back at me
Bad money dies I love the scene
Sometimes I fantasize
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Don't these times
Fill your eyes
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Are you all alone
Is anybody home
Sometimes I fantasize
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Don't these times
Fill your eyes
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me
Are you all alone
Are you made of stone

Honky-tonk Moon
Dirt road in the twi-lght, woods so cool and dark.
Up a-head pale ne-on, somewhere a dog barks,
Honky-tonk moon, keeps shining on my ba-by and me
Breaking up the pool balls, chalk-ing up the cues
Juke box pumping soft-ly, lazy sum-mer blues
Honky-tonk moon, keeps shining on my ba-by and me
Chorus
Through the blue smok-y haze, all through the haze
Trouble seems to melt a - way.............
My hearts on a roll, Im easy in my soul
Theres no hur-ry, no wor-ry, things are go-in my way
My arms a-round my ba-by, shuf-flin on the floor
Cig-a-rettes and saw-dust, squeak-y old screen door.
Honk- tonk moon, keeps shin-in on my ba-by and me.
Out-side the dark is fal-ling, stars are twinkling bright
That old hoot owl is calling, every-things all right
Honk- tonk moon, keeps shin-in on my ba-by and me.
Honk- tonk moon, keeps shin-in on my ba-by and me.

Making Cars
They've bailed the automakers out...
But there's no one about,
To drive.
They've listened to them rant and shout...
But there's no one about,
To drive.
Or
To keep them alive.
And why...
Why now is gas so cheap?
When people can't afford it.
And why...
Why are they losing sleep?
When they're making cars that people can't keep!
They've bailed the automakers out...
But there's no one about,
To drive.
They've listened to them rant and shout...
But there's no one about,
To drive.
Or
To keep them alive.
And why...
Why now is gas so cheap?
When people can't afford it.
And why...
Why are they losing sleep?
When they're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh no!
They're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh?
They're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh no!
They're making cars for people....
But why...
Why now is gas so cheap?
When people can't afford it.
And why...
Why are they losing sleep?
When they're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh no!
They're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh?
They're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh no!
They're making cars that people can't keep!
Oh?
But they will not shake away their greed needs.
Oh no!
And other fantasies they believe!
'Can you put that back on the assembly line?
I'd like to hear that one more time! '
They've bailed the automakers out...
But there's no one about,
To drive.
They've listened to them rant and shout...
But there's no one about,
To drive.
Or
To keep them alive.
They're making cars,
That people can't keep!
Oh?
They're making cars,
That people can't keep!
Oh no!
They're making cars,
That people can't keep!
Oh?
But they will not shake away their greed needs.

The night is full of brown Ratel armoured cars
The night is full of brown Ratel armoured cars
and Olifant tanks
that drives and rolls in on the ground
and salvos from rocket launching trucks
that draws arcs
and in the distance howitzer canon reports
in volleys
and when a light flare suddenly falls
it is as if the bushes are teeming
with enemy tanks and armoured cars
just where I look
and it looks
like the day of judgement.
Projectiles find their targets
and canister-shot comes down exploding thundering
and it’s an apocalyptic night
for some of the enemy
who are burning,
scorched and blown to smithereens in their armour
and when a tank
suddenly appears out of the bushes
there is a hell of a red thunderclap
as a shot from another Ratel hits it deadly
and I realize that even here
a person’s time is measured out
and around me there are fireworks
like stars falling from the sky
while we stop and aim
the following killing shot.

The Trash Men
here they come
these guys
grey truck
radio playing
they are in a hurry
it’s quite exciting:
shirt open
bellies hanging out
they run out the trash bins
roll them out to the fork lift
and then the truck grinds it upward
with far too much sound . . .
they had to fill out application forms
to get these jobs
they are paying for homes and
drive late model cars
they get drunk on Saturday night
now in the Los Angeles sunshine
they run back and forth with their trash bins
all that trash goes somewhere
and they shout to each other
then they are all up in the truck
driving west toward the sea
none of them know
that I am alive
