Off Track

He never took me to the track

The sport of kings my ass
It filled up part of his life
That we pretended wasn't there

All that time spent
On the phone
With the racing sheet
His little book

Whatever he thought was coming
Down the final stretch
Never made him a king
Left him uncovered several times
And broke him in the end

What is that magic out there
That makes them stand and yell
Waving their tickets
Grasped firmly in their hands
As the horses make the final turn

Maybe if I had been out there
Standing at the rail
As then ran by - - - -
Close enough to catch
The fire in their eyes - - - -

However he seldom went and
He never did take me to the track

All The Kings Horses

(unknown)
Mmm, my friends keep telling me to pull myself together
They try to cheer my up but its not gettin better
They say that time will pass and Ill love again some day
But time is standing still ever since you went away
Now, all the kings horses and all the kings men
Youll never get me back together again
cause I just fall apart each time I look at you
No, all the kings and all the kings men
Are never gonna make me smile again
How can I smile just knowin youre with somebody new? , ooh
You had my hopes so high I guess they had to tumble
And when you left my dream my world began to crumble
No woman ever found the only missing part
When you left me behind dont you know you took my heart?
Now, all the kings horses and all the kings men
Youll never get me back together again
cause I just fall apart each time I look at you, yes I do, now
All the kings and all the kings men
Youre never gonna make me smile again
How can I smile just knowin youre with somebody new? , ooh, yeah, ooh, ahh, ha
All the kings horses and all the kings men
Youll never get me back together again
cause I just fall apart each time I look at you, yes I do
I said, all the kings and all the kings men
Are never gonna make me smile again
How can I smile just knowing youre with somebody new? , yeah
All the kings horses and all the kings men
Youll never get me back together again
And I just fall apart each time

Mountleader Rolf

On June the eight in the year 03 the champion blue brindled greyhound from Millstreet Town
Mountleader Rolf owned by Daniel and Geraldine O Mahony raced his way into renown
By winning the St Ledger Classic for his proud owners a great night
The son of Smooth Rumble and Mountleader Diva had his backers cheering loudly in delight.

Another champion greyhound from Millstreet had the St Ledger Final crowd
Cheering loudly at the trophy presentation and his owners happy and so proud
Were the toast of the night at Limerick and their track record holder at the track
Proved for his top class opposition far too tough a nut to crack.

But three months later in a final at Youghal his connections were out of luck
When their champion dog from Millstreet by tragedy was struck
He had to be put to sleep after taking a very heavy fall
Perhaps for the Mahonys in their many years of breeding and racing greyhounds their saddest night of all.

At the Limerick Track on St Ledger night he had proved himself a canine great
But the legendary dog known as Mountleader Rolf met with a tragic fate
In a big final at Youghal Track when he took a heavy fall
But he had his night of glory and greyhound racing fans him will recall.

The Resonant Dream

The final dream
So resonant and pure
The final dream
Will never be at its end
Its long journey almost o'er
The final dream
Has just begun
To rattle the fate at hand
The final dream
Is as pure as gold
It is perfect and will stand
The final dream
Will never come to a close
Yet it has a happy hand
The final dream
Is a grand dream
That turns the time of sand
The final dream
Is such a dream
That it is now near its end

He Wasn't

There's not much going on today
I'm really bored, it's getting late
What happened to my Saturday (Saturday)
Monday's coming, the day I hate, a a a ate
(Pre Chorus)
Sittin' on the bed alone (Bed alone)
Starin' at the phone (phone)
(Chorus)
He wasn't what I wanted, what I thought, no
He wouldn't even open up the door
He never made me feel like I was special
He isn't really what I'm looking for
Uh-uh
Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
This is where I start to bite my nails
And clean my room when all else fails
I think it's time for me to bail (time to bail)
This point of view is getting stale, a a a ale
(Pre Chorus)
Sittin' on the bed alone (Bed alone)
Starin' at the phone (phone)
(Chorus)
He wasn't what I wanted, what I thought, no
He wouldn't even open up the door
He never made me feel like I was special
He isn't really what I'm looking for
Uh-uh, uh-uh uh-uh uh-uh
Na na na na na, we've all got choices
Na na na na, we've all got voices
Na na na na na, stand up make some noise
Na na na na, stand up make some noise
(Chorus)
He wasn't what I wanted, what I thought, no
He wouldn't even open up the door
He never made me feel like I was special
He isn't really what I'm looking for
He wasn't what I wanted, what I thought, no
He wouldn't even open up the door
He never made me feel like I was special
Like I was special, 'cause I was special
Na na na na na

The Outside Track

There were ten of us there on the moonlit quay,
And one on the for’ard hatch;
No straighter mate to his mates than he
Had ever said: ‘Len’s a match!’
'’Twill be long, old man, ere our glasses clink,
’Twill be long ere we grip your hand!'—
And we dragged him ashore for a final drink
Till the whole wide world seemed grand.
For they marry and go as the world rolls back,
They marry and vanish and die;
But their spirit shall live on the Outside Track
As long as the years go by.

The port-lights glowed in the morning mist
That rolled from the waters green;
And over the railing we grasped his fist
As the dark tide came between.
We cheered the captain and cheered the crew,
And our mate, times out of mind;
We cheered the land he was going to
And the land he had left behind.

We roared Lang Syne as a last farewell,
But my heart seemed out of joint;
I well remember the hush that fell
When the steamer had passed the point
We drifted home through the public bars,
We were ten times less by one
Who sailed out under the morning stars,
And under the rising sun.

And one by one, and two by two,
They have sailed from the wharf since then;
I have said good-bye to the last I knew,
The last of the careless men.
And I can’t but think that the times we had
Were the best times after all,
As I turn aside with a lonely glass
And drink to the bar-room wall.

But I’ll try my luck for a cheque Out Back,
Then a last good-bye to the bush;
For my heart’s away on the Outside Track,
On the track of the steerage push.

Everywhere

Turn it inside out so I can see
The part of you that's drifting over me
'Cause when I look you're, you're never there
But when I sleep you're, you're everywhere
You're everywhere
Tell me how I got this far
Tell me why you're here and who you are
'Cause every time I look
You're never there
And every time I sleep
You're always there
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I recognize the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that
You might not be real
I sense it now, the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
And when I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty that's within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
There never comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're in everyone I see
So tell me
Do you see me?

Final Good-Byes

as we say our final good-byes
I won't be fully there
I'll be thinking of time we shared
and what it'll be like without you

you're moving
it'll be sad to see
but it's nothing new
for it's plain to see

I liked you
you'd never tell
or see for that matter
how I truy feel

I thought there was something
special we shared
a bond a connection
that wouldn't rip us apart

but these are our final days
until we're far apart
I will treasure them always
you'll be in my heart

you reached me
for the first time I say
I'd trust you with my life
even on my last day

I'll think about you
and wonder 'What if...'
what if you never left
what if we could be

some think it's foolishness
but I'll never tell
how you made me feel
and how you made me melt

when I hear your voice
I always turn back to see
you smiling at me
and calling me near

some say you're normal
I say their wrong
you're something special
because you made me strong

I know we're just friends
but there's more there
I never saw it coming
but it's something I must bare

so good-bye
but not forever
time will tell
what was truly there

I will miss you
more than you know
it's the hardest thing to do
saying good-bye to you

these moments are going
as I wave you good-bye
it could be the last I see you
I'll miss you no lie.

There Is God or No God

When it ends,
The poetry and delicate beauty,
The final sunrise in my fading eyes,
I’ll close the book I’ve composed,
A gorgeous failure left behind
For some other manic depressive to find
Who is seeking solace from a sympathetic spirit.

There is God or no God
But currently there are flowers
Waving in a pleasant field,
And one day, I’ll be a flower petal
Waving charmingly to a young girl,
And when she smiles back,
I’ll be happy in eternity.

Hard Times

Well, I recall days in the city
And I think back, oh what a pity
Rememberin how it wasnt pretty
Every day life in the city
Out in the street we had to take it
With friends around, couldnt it
What wasnt there, we had to make it
Hangin out down in the city
The hard times are dead and gone
But the hard times have made me strong
And the hard times have made me see
That the hard times aint where I wanna be
We had to fight to be accepted
It wasnt right and I protested
For hangin out we got arrested
Every day life in the city
Wed go to school and then wed cut out
Go to the park and space our heads out
We called it fun but there was some doubt
Hangin out down in the city
The hard times are dead and gone
But the hard times have made me strong
And the hard times have made me see
That the hard times aint where I wanna be
I dont wanna be there or even think back
I dont wanna be there, now Im on the right track, yeah
The hard times are dead and gone
But the hard times have made me strong
And the hard times have made me see
That the hard times aint where I wanna be
I dont wanna be there or even think back
I dont wanna be there, cause Im on the right track
Now Im on the right track
Im finally on the right track
Im finally on the right track

Two Fingers

Ill see you at the weighing-in,
When your lifes sum-totals made
And you set your wealth in godly deeds
Against the sins youve laid.
And you place your final burden
On your hard-pressed next of kin:
Send the chamber-pot back down the line
To be filled up again.
And the hard-headed miracle worker
Who bathes his hands in blood,
Will welcome you to the final nod ---
And cover you with mud.
And hell say, ''you really should make the deal,
As he offers round the hat.
''youd better lick two fingers clean ---
Hell thank you all for that.
As you slip on the greasy platform,
And you land upon your back,
You make a wish and you wipe your nose upon the railway track.
While the high-strung locomotive,
With furnace burning bright,
Lumbers on --- you wave goodbye ---
And the sparks fade into night.
And as you join the good ship earth,
And you mingle with the dust ---
Youd better leave your underpants
With someone you can trust.
And when the old man with the telescope
Cuts the final strand ---
Youd better lick two fingers clean,
Before you shake his hand.

Spy Of Love

Have you noticed to this day
How many times weve prayed and played
Lifting lovers up and down
It gets around in this old town
Sleight of hand and sleight of mouth
A dirty trick to catch me out
I dont mind but what I say
Use that magic for better days
Standing above this moment
Listening to all I say
The spy of love will track me
Will catch me
Through the window I see a face
That dirty face that speaks with sorrow
You listen to the walls for clues
Stand in shadows protecting you

Prophet, Priest And King

An Angel came to shepherds at night with Good News in which to bring,
A Savior’s been born to you today, who is a Prophet, Priest and King.
The shepherds filled with great joy praised The Lord from the start,
Mary hearing them praise her boy, pondered these things in her heart.

Visiting the Temple at age twelve Christ spoke with much insistence,
And speaking to Mary would tell her He’s about His Father’s business.
For Christ was not just another man but He is Almighty God Incarnate,
He was sent into The Holy Land and revealed as God’s final Prophet.

He was spoken of by Moses as the prophet like him, who would come,
And this Prophet knows all about us for He is God’s One and Only Son.
Many men were prophets in the past and used by God as He had willed,
And Jesus, my friend, was the last, as prophecy in Him was fulfilled.

The Old Testament economy of then since that time, friend has ceased,
And Jesus is now The Way for all men, from the greatest to the least.
No longer one ordained by men, Christ is our Heavenly Eternal Priest,
He is the final Priest my friend, to bring all men God’s Eternal peace.

The Jews mocked Jesus as a king, but that is exactly what Christ is,
And He’s coming back as Eternal King, with all those He knows as His.
He is the final revelation from God no matter what this world thinks,
And He’s coming with an iron rod to reign as Lord and King of Kings.

Down in the holler below the fleld
Angels working on the chariot wheel

Thinking on the money that I aint made
Mo boys, cant you line em (track a lack)
Mo boys, cant you line em (track a lack)
Mo boys, cant you line em (track a lack)
See eloise gonna line em track
Moses stood on the red sea shore
Gotta batten down the waves with a 2 by 4
Mo boys, cant you line em (track a lack)
Mo boys, cant you line em (track a lack)
Mo boys, cant you line em (track a lack)
See eloise gonna line em track
Now if I could I surely would

Spell Bound Magic

I was put on fire
The moment you left to admire
Taken me to task and she peeped into eyes
I lost the firm ground when she really tried

This was not at all new
As I had little idea about it and knew
I had no time to look at her
But this gesture on her part made me to bother

Was it clear attempt or trial to woo?
But whatever the case may be, it was true?
I started to have soft feeling
As she had shown inclination and was willing

She was preferring to be my woman
I was taken by surprise as his man
She might have thought it number of times
But it never crossed my mind at any time

I was sweating under cool moon
As if standing under the hot sun of noon
May be it was first experience to have come across
But any how it was somebody's gain and somebody's loss

'What are you thinking dear' she gently uttered
She was firm in her stand and offered
All that she tried to make me understand
Beginning of new relation and end as friend

As it generally happens in everybody's life
She was entering life as an ideal wife
I too had cherished the dream of having her
But had no courage to admit and offer

I took it as natural invitation
It was aimed at building new relation
I concurred and conceded to her desire
As it was now my turn for her to admire

It is like magnetic pull
Passion runs high and becomes full
The beginning is very dramatic
As eyes do all wonders with spell bound magic

Bed Time

Here I am struggling to say I love you
A hundred times more in the short time
I have left before I know I have to go to bed
Fighting to stay awake in the mean time

My body is slowing down and
Telling me it’s time to rest
But I cant stop talking to you
My love
Never wanting to go
Never thinking that
I’ve spent enough time with you

The time is here
We say are final good-bye and
I love you’s
With one click of the phone
Your voice no longer rings in my ears
But I dream of your smile,
I look at the phone for a few more seconds
And almost call back and tell you
How much I love you
(Witch would be pointless cause
I don’t know words to express something as strong as that)
And that I never want to stop talking to you

I walk down stairs slowly because I’m so tired
I can barley stay awake
I hang up the phone
Then look at it one more time
Then with what’s left of my energy
I go up stairs to my room
The room we should be sharing together
But we are not,
So I climb into my comfortable bed
Lay my weary head upon the soft pillow
My last thought is
Gosh I wish he was here beside me
When it becomes
Our bed time

The Window Of Opportunity

If God could grant me a window... a window into time,
With all of history then in tow, would that not be sublime?
To know events before they came, before their very hour,
Before nobody heard each name of kings to be in power?
To know each war yet to be fought and learn each reason why
The sons of men must then be taught of warfare and to die?
To sift the sands of time itself, to search for wisdom's dreams,
To discount thoughts of making wealth, in fear of Man's extremes?
To keep on track of what could be, perhaps to thwart its end,
To turn us from catastrophe, then find God as our friend?
To pick one moment from time's path, then pray it not to live,
So we won't write our epitaph and help God to forgive?
If I can't change the final fate of doomsday dead ahead,
This holy gift would be too late and fill my heart with dread!
To know it all, availing nought, my heart would pine away...
With every second deep in thought of Man's last Judgment Day...
But if God said, that I could change, the course of time and space,
With just one prayer to rearrange the things that could take place,
Then I would pray that mighty prayer to Heaven's Lord above,
Demanding everything I dare that He would spare with love...
In faith, to see the Saviour's smile, who grants my wish come true!
To spare us all that final mile... when He makes all things new...

Fire & Rain

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just cant remember who to send it to
Ive seen fire and Ive seen rain
Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that Id see you again
Wont you look down upon me, jesus
Youve got to help me make a stand
Youve just got to see me through another day
My bodys aching and my time is at hand
And I wont make it any other way
Oh, Ive seen fire and Ive seen rain
Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that Id see you again
Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows itll turn your head around
Well, theres hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
To come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground
Oh, Ive seen fire and Ive seen rain
Ive seen sunny days that I thought would never end
Ive seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that Id see you, baby, one more time again, now
Thought Id see you one more time again
Theres just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought Id see you, thought Id see you fire and rain, now

We Fly So Close

we never realise just how close we come to disaster whether in love or everyday life...
My harbour lights are fading fast
Soon theyll disappear
Alone I sit in darkness
Hoping someone might come near
Though I wait, though I try
No one ever comes
And the feeling that I have flood over me
The river starts to run
We fly so close
We fly so close
Sometimes we fly too close
Every place you run to, everywhere you turn
There are places that you know you should not go
But some bridges just wont burn
All my life, though I try
I cannot change the past
And the ghosts that come back to haunt you
Make you realise at last
We fly so close
We fly so close
Sometimes we fly too close
We fly too close
My heart is racing much faster now
Life passes before my eyes
Somethings I see, they make me smile
Somethings they make me cry
So I look, so I try to find
A lesson I can learn
The passing of time hasnt changed my mind
And the ghosts I know return
You know we fly so close
We fly so close
Sometimes we fly too close
We fly too close
We fly so close, you and I sometimes
Sometimes we fly so close,
Well never know how many times
We fly so close
We fly so close

Who I'm Starting To See

i use to let you tell me what to do,
i don't know why,
maybe because at the time,
i couldn't think for myself,

it was just something about you,
that made me feel special,
but, now i see what you doing,
little by little,

i see where i went wrong,
giving up part of my power,
and letting you have what you want,
i feel as if you can't trust me,

you snoop through my phone,
when i'm not looking,
just to see who i dial,
i caught you one or twice,

but you thought it was fun and games,
what is wrong with you?
little by little,
i'm starting to think i will be better off,

if only i wasn't with you,
i'm starting to feel trapped,
rather than free and opened,
my friend seem to say,

you're abit controling,
am i being blind sided?
can't really see,
what's in front of me, the whole time?

i think back of when you notice me,
it wasn't until you realize,
what you were slowly losing,
that you put in a little effort,

just to try and be with me,
but, in my eyes,
i'm starting to think it was fake,
you put up a front,

rather than just be yourself,
people don't see,
what i'm starting to see,
a guy who does more talk,

rather than take action,
i don't know why i'm still with you,
i know i'm better than this,
but, i get sucked in,

when you tell me that you miss me,
i don't know why, maybe because,
i don't like the feeling of being alone,
i've been through so much,

at times you helped me through,
other times you made jokes,
about the mistakes i made,
what kind of help are you?

you wanted to perade it,
like it was you business to tell,
what kind of friend are you?
slowly i'm starting to see the real you,

the part i lost sight on,
when everything fell apart,
to make me think,
you just wasn't the one for me.
