Posthumous realization

As an adult, you are no longer a part of your parents.
As an adult your son is no longer a part of his parents.
So are your brothers and sisters to you When they are grown
This you can realize only posthumously.

I'm still really close with everyone at home and their parents - and their brothers and sisters. I was so, so, so lucky to grow up as part of a community and I don't take that for granted. I try very hard to stay part of it.

Baby vs Adult

Baby is dumb
Adult has wisdom

Babies are small and crawl
Adults are tall and fall

Baby demands
Adult commands

Baby yearns to walk
Adult learns to work

Baby weeps
Adult sleeps

You carry a baby
You marry an adult

Baby chokes
Adult smokes

Baby stays at home to play
Adult brings home the pay

Baby cries
Adult sighs

Baby spikes milk
Adults like silk

And I saved this for the last
Baby at birth
Adult at death
Baby vs Adult becomes a thing of the past

unicef**united Nations Interest For Children Of Every Faith

look around, and what do you see
children of all races and creeds
white, yellow, black, olive complexioned too.
don't you realize that they all need you?

look at pictures and read the news
children all over the world
starving and without parents and love.

must they pay for the elders mistakes
must they be the victims of our ignorance.
let us give them what we had as kids.

love, food, affection is all they ask.
look at their faces and think
of your own children and if they would
survive, if they were in their places.

no matter what our beliefs.
we are children of GOD
so let us all do our part.

let us help and love one another
let us all become sister and brother.
don't let our little sisters and brothers starve
open up your minds and your hearts.

give a part of yourself that you
have yet to give
and let these poor children live.

Be a child-parent-adult

To the child, it is a day.
To the parent, it is a night.
To the adult both are inclusive.

The child lives in fantasy.
The parent lives in fallacy.
It is the adult that lives,
Where he is put, in ecstasy.

The child admires things.
The parent criticizes them.
The adult realizes them.

The child appreciates.
The parent deprecates.
The adult rationalizes.

The poet is the child in man.
The priest is the parent in man.
The logician is the adult in man.

Live a child to be youthful.
Live a parent to be awesome.
Live an adult to be credible.

Sonnet: Who Tends to Old-aged Parents?

A daughter’s like a flow’r that’s sometimes plucked,
From the plant- the family, suddenly;
And parents feel their sap/ blood has been sucked,
Off from their veins in a manner truly.

The son is like a flow’r that stays for long;
Adorning well the family-plant till late;
A part of his parents’ old-aged sad song;
Who’s expected to suff’rings mitigate.

Son or daughter in a small family-norm!
The parents feel the losses both are great;
Their separations come in life like storm!
But none can ever circumvent this fate.

So, who looks after parents in old age?
’Tis anyone who truly- my message!

Vale of time

How dear we were
Once, as brothers and sisters!
Once no more are our parents
and we ourselves are parents,
we are not as dear
in the sense that we were once.
Now we see each other
only on special occasions,
which, too, are over,
with children all married.
Next await only our funerals,
where, too, shall we miss
to see the very hosts.

Prized As A Talent

Trying to initiate motivation,
In an adult uninspired.
And believes procrastination is a blessing,
And prized as a talent...
Only the chosen are born not to depart with.
Can be compared to being hired to teach children,
To ignore the use of curse words...
They have heard from their parents since birth.
As their parents make claims,
Their children have been influenced...
By hoodlums who walk the streets,
In their neighborhood.

To be pitiably old

Besides parents and grand parents,
Aunts and uncles were counted on.
Besides father and mother,
Nephews and nieces were counted on.
Besides brothers and sisters,
Sons and daughters were counted on.
Then their children were contemplated on.
I count days, with no more to be counted on.

Driven into Fits as Unrestless Misfits Twitch

I've noticed children that lack discipline,
Are accustomed to their parents or guardians...
Shouting out demands to them.
With cussing heard that eventually is returned,
To the same people to have their ears burn.

For the most part children learn by example.
Not from samples taught by teachers in classrooms...
Driven into fits as unrestless misfits twitch unable to sit.
To have parents defend their children looking innocent,
In front of a judge delivering limited sentences.

To nip that disrespect in the bud,
With a punishment suitable is no longer legit.
Instead what children do today is tolerated...
And out of control they are,
As everyone seems to make excuses for it!

I Have This Philosophy

As a child I had threatened to run away.
In fact...
It was either the fourth or the fifth time,
When I made that anoouncement...
To come to realize,
No one was paying me any attention at all.
And on one of those occasions,
My mother told me to take out the garbage...
Before I went anywhere!

She really didn't understand the severity of the moment.
I was all of ten years old and extremely serious.

I was trying to make this point...
I was going to be missed!
My niece, Shayla, did the same thing.
But she came back home to say to her parents,
She had a need for her checkbook and had forgotten it.

Like me...
She has excellent penmanhip.
AND she doesn't play.
Or has time for nonsense.
She's all business and serious.

'Go Shayla.
I'm so glad you discovered adulthood! '

We both had lots to learn about life.
Especially the part of life that one learns...
DO NOT BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS,
Anythng connected to your survival.
Including those who give lucrative allowances...
To afford our checkbooks...to forget!
I love my niece.

As young people,
We begin to test those independent waters...
Early.
Many of us were forced to.

But as we grow...
Those 'come-and-find-me' games,
Are a bit childish, tired and very old.
And when one plays them over fourty...
Something should connect in their minds,
They play these games alone.

I have this philosophy about life...
If you can not teach a grown cat hygiene,
And if an adult runs into hiding...
In fear of reprisals for something wrong they've done.
Only to seek, ultimately, a pat on the back.
To be stroked like a missing cat when they return....
That person is in need more than 'a' lesson to learn.

That litter box needs to be put outside of the house for good.

'What does that mean? '

I did not say it was a 'good' philosophy...
To be quickly understood.
Some philosophies have to sit and marinate,
Longer than some.
I said I 'have' this philosophy about life.
You figure it out!
It has to be lived to enable it to make sense.

And stop looking at me like that!

You see an absolutely brilliant film later, as an adult, and you walk out thinking about what to have for dinner. Whereas something like Jaws winds up having a huge effect on me. If only my parents had been taking me to Kurosawa films when I was eight, but no.

When It Hurts Enough To Cry

When it hurts enough to cry,
Like when your parents give you up, and you don't know why.
Parents just like my own,
Didn't want anything to do with me, till I was grown.
Why do some parents give up their kids,
Do they ever regret later that they did?
My parents weren't there through the teen years,
Or seeing me graduate which brought me tears.
I hardly heard I love you son,
When growing up, I can't remember having any fun.
Something my dad said has always stuck in my head,
When I was five he said he wished I was dead.
Doesn't he know my heart was torn?
I never did ask to be born.
Parents are suppose to love their kids,
And it will show later what a good job they did.
They say you can't choose your mom or dad,
Cause if I could I wouldn't be so sad.
But I always remember what Jesus said,
''Always love your mom and dad.''
