The Narrow Way
Following the path as it leads towards the Darkness in the North
Weary strangers' faces show their sympathy
They've seen that hope before
And if you want to stay for a little bit
Rest your aching limbs for a little bit
Before you the night is beckoning
And you know you can't delay
You hear the night birds calling you
But you can't touch the restless sky
Close your aching eyes beyond your name
Mist is swelling

Again
There's been no sunlight
Since the day you said goodbye
Since the moment that my life
Turned into a masquerade
I can't even pretend to
Paste a smile across my face
All my dreams have been erased
There's nothing left to save me
Chorus:
And you
You're the only one can stop my sky from falling
You're the only one who's name I keep on calling
When everything is closing in
And you
You're the only one can stop this heart from aching
You're the only one who can stop me from shaking
And put me back together
Again
What I'd give just to wake up
And wipe your memory from my eyes
But I can't wish for bluer skies
I've never been quite so hopeless
Chorus:
And you
You're the only one can stop my sky from falling
You're the only one who's name I keep on calling
When everything is closing in
And you
You're the only one can stop this heart from aching
You're the only one who can stop me from shaking
And put me back together
Again
And if you stay away
I fear it will all be too much
And if you stay away
I'll be a man who's lost his touch
Chorus:
And you
You're the only one can stop my sky from falling
You're the only one who's name I keep on calling
When everything is closing in
And you
You're the only one can stop this heart from aching
You're the only one who can stop me from shaking
And put me back together

Midsummer New York
Wake up in the morning, my hands cold in fear.
And midsummer new york my heart shakes in terror.
My heart, my hands, my legs, my mind,
Evrything I touch is shaking, shaking, shaking, shaking,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
Wake up in the morning, my beds wet in sweat.
And midsummer new york, scream in the mirror.
And the door, and the chairs, and the floor, and the ceiling,
Evrything you see is aching, shaking, shaking, shaking,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
And you shake, shake, shake, shake, shake,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
Wake up in the morning, my minds dried up in pain.
Midsummer new yorks waiting for the rain.
The window, the trees, the park, the sun,
The whole world s shaking, is shaking, shaking,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
Shake, oh, shake, oh, shake,
Shake, oh, shake, shake.
Aching, aching, aching, aching, aching,
Oh, its aching, aching, aching, oh, aching,
Aching, aching, oh, its aching, aching, oh, oh.
Shaking, shaking,

Shake, shake, shaking, shaking, shaking, shaking,
Shaking, ooh, oh, shaking, oh, shake,

Oh, oh, shaking, shake, shake, shake, shake,
Shake, shake, shake,

The Aching of Old Age
THE ACHING OF OLD AGE
The aching of old age
Knows it will not go away
It is part of the life now
Aching is like breathing always here
Whether attended to or not
The aching of old age
Will not go away
It will accompany one all the way to the grave
Perhaps this is what it is ultimately for
To teach us that which we dreaded all these years
Has its most real meaning only in
Ending the aching forever.

Long Way From Home
(coverdale)
I would do anything I could to be near you,
Walk all night in the pouring rain
To be at your side
My heart is aching for love,
My bodys shaking with desire
Believe me, baby, when I say
I will drink you dry
I would do anything to be near you,
Youre everything any man could claim
I see your face in the night,
I hear you calling my name
But, its a long long way from home,
Im just trying to get a message to you,
Its a long long way from home,
An I dont know what Im gonna do
Id been looking for love for so long when I found you,
Too many years I walked alone
When I touch you inside I feel you burning me with fire,
Believe me baby when I say
I will feed the flame
I would do anything to be near you,
Walk all night in the pouring rain
I see your face in the night,
I hear you calling my name
But, its a long long way from home,
Im just trying to get a message to you,
Its a long long way from home,
An I dont know what Im gonna do
I would do anything to be near you,
Youre everything any man could claim
I see your face in the night,
I hear you calling my name
But, its a long long way from home,
Im just trying to get a message to you,
Its a long long way from home,
An I dont know what Im gonna do
I would do anything I could to be near you,
Check in on any night time flight, I dont mind
My heart is aching for love,
My bodys shaking with desire
Believe me baby when I say
I will drink you dry
I would do anything to be near you,
Walk all night in the pouring rain
I see your face in the night,
I hear you calling my name
But, its a long long way from home,
Im just trying to get a message to you,
Its a long long way from home,
An I dont know what Im gonna do
Its a long long way from home,
Im just trying to get a message to you,
Its a long long way from home,
An I dont know what Im gonna do,
Its a long long way from home

The Watches Of The Night
O the waiting in the watches of the night!
In the darkness, desolation, and contrition and affright;
The awful hush that holds us shut away from all delight:
The ever weary memory that ever weary goes
Recounting ever over every aching loss it knows--
The ever weary eyelids gasping ever for repose--
In the dreary, weary watches of the night!
Dark--stifling dark--the watches of the night!
With tingling nerves at tension, how the blackness flashes white
With spectral visitations smitten past the inner sight!--
What shuddering sense of wrongs we've wrought
that may not be redressed--
Of tears we did not brush away--of lips we left unpressed,
And hands that we let fall, with all their loyalty unguessed!
Ah! the empty, empty watches of the night!
What solace in the watches of the night?--
What frailest staff of hope to stay--what faintest shaft of light?
Do we _dream_ and dare _believe_ it, that by never weight of right
Of our own poor weak deservings, we shall win the dawn at last--
Our famished souls find freedom from this penance for the past,
In a faith that leaps and lightens from the gloom
that flees aghast--
Shall we survive the watches of the night?
One leads us through the watches of the night--
By the ceaseless intercession of our loved ones lost to sight
He is with us through all trials, in His mercy and His might;--
With our mothers there about Him, all our sorrow disappears,
Till the silence of our sobbing is the prayer the Master hears,
And His hand is laid upon us with the tenderness of tears
In the waning of the watches of the night.

The Lure Of Little Voices
There's a cry from out the loneliness -- oh, listen, Honey, listen!
Do you hear it, do you fear it, you're a-holding of me so?
You're a-sobbing in your sleep, dear, and your lashes, how they glisten --
Do you hear the Little Voices all a-begging me to go?
All a-begging me to leave you. Day and night they're pleading, praying,
On the North-wind, on the West-wind, from the peak and from the plain;
Night and day they never leave me -- do you know what they are saying?
"He was ours before you got him, and we want him once again."
Yes, they're wanting me, they're haunting me, the awful lonely places;
They're whining and they're whimpering as if each had a soul;
They're calling from the wilderness, the vast and God-like spaces,
The stark and sullen solitudes that sentinel the Pole.
They miss my little camp-fires, ever brightly, bravely gleaming
In the womb of desolation, where was never man before;
As comradeless I sought them, lion-hearted, loving, dreaming,
And they hailed me as a comrade, and they loved me evermore.
And now they're all a-crying, and it's no use me denying;
The spell of them is on me and I'm helpless as a child;
My heart is aching, aching, but I hear them, sleeping, waking;
It's the Lure of Little Voices, it's the mandate of the Wild.
I'm afraid to tell you, Honey, I can take no bitter leaving;
But softly in the sleep-time from your love I'll steal away.
Oh, it's cruel, dearie, cruel, and it's God knows how I'm grieving;
But His loneliness is calling, and He knows I must obey.

A Wandering Star
You filled the aching longing
Of a lonely wandering star
You bridged a yawning chasm
When you saw me from afar
I heard your cry from darkness
And the blackness of the night
You cried ' I've come to set you free.'
'I've come to give you sight.'
What could fill this aching longing?
What could bridge this vast expanse?
What could render sight to blind?
And cause dead feet to dance
Could hopelessness be turned to hope?
Could darkness turn to light?
Could sin be gone and sting no more?
And end this endless night
And soon enough I found it so
In Christ my risen King
The darkness fled from my lonely heart
A heart that now can sing
And hopelessness gave place to hope
His joy now fills my soul
The chasm bridged, the darkness light
His will became my only goal
So thank you Lord, you gave me sight
When you saw me from afar
You forgave my sins and set me free
No longer now a wandering star

Night Secrets
Night Secrets…
No more my aching heart
As you sleep silent in my breast
Awakening in the night
I await your sweet caress
My aching, barren arms in vain
So many times I've wept
At night upon my pillow
While in my bed I slept
Night secrets in the darkness
Like dark, murky shadows
That linger in the night
The rain softly whispers
Through the wind and trees
Carrying my secrets
To the moon shining bright
Secrets kept deep within my heart
They whisper in the night
No one else may listen
There's no one else in sight
They echo through the evening
Those things I cannot share
My secrets whispering in the darkness
Like a breeze fluttering through air
Until then…
I'll wait my love
For your soft, caressing touch
With the stars softly glowing
Through the window in my room
I lie quietly in my bed
With the shadows of the night
Whispers flow in the breeze
Sending them gently to the moon
Until then…
I'll wait til you come again
When I can softly whisper in your ear
Those secrets that I carry
Sharing secrets...
With the one I love so dear
Until then I'll wait...
For my heart belongs to only you

Still Of The Night
(coverdale/sykes)
In the still of the night
I hear the wolf howl, honey
Sniffing around your door
In the still of the night
I feel my heart beating heavy
Telling me I gotta have more
In the shadow of night
I see the full moon rise
Telling me whats in store,
My heart start aching
My body start a shaking
And I cant take no more, no, no
Now I just wanna get close to you
An taste your love so sweet
And I just wanna make love to you
Feel your body heat...
In the still of the night...
In the still of the night...
Over here baby...
In the heat of the day
I hang my head down low
And hide my face from the sun
Through the light of the day
Until the evening time
Im waiting for the night to come
In the still of the night,
In the cool moonlight,
I feel heart is aching
In the still of the night...
Tell me here baby
In the still of the night
I hear the wolf howl, honey
Sniffing around your door...
In the still of the night
I feel my heart beating heavy
Telling me I gotta have more...
Now I just wanna get close to you
An taste your love so sweet
And I just wanna make love to you
Feel your body heat.
In the still of the night...
Still of the night,
Still of the night,
Still of the night...

He Mourns For The Change That Has Come Upon Him And His Beloved, And Longs For The End Of The World
DO you not hear me calling, white deer with no horns?
I have been changed to a hound with one red ear;
I have been in the Path of Stones and the Wood of Thorns,
For somebody hid hatred and hope and desire and fear
Under my feet that they follow you night and day.
A man with a hazel wand came without sound;
He changed me suddenly; I was looking another way;
And now my calling is but the calling of a hound;
And Time and Birth and Change are hurrying by.
I would that the Boar without bristles had come from the West
And had rooted the sun and moon and stars out of the sky
And lay in the darkness, grunting, and turning to his rest.

How Wide The Dawn
How wide the Dawn
Is smiling!
How silent-new
The air is breathing!
How raw the sea
Without a wave
Is looking!
And in the night –
Id est last night
How strange
The owl chanteth!
How far, how far
Its cry did seem
And yet
It was so near!
How thrilled the tree
Below my lighted window
And in the night
The solemn night
The owl was still a-calling
To spirits wild
Perhaps
Or long white ghosts
Perhaps!
And in the eyes
Of the pale moon
The lake nearby glistened:
How white
How thin
The rays that fall
In midst of the dark waters!
And from the lake
A soundless sound
Is coming:
For in the waves
And from the waves
There comes a little gurgling
And in the night
In the long night
The owl is speaking, speaking!
Ah! this night – in the night
The people in the house
Are all a-sleeping
I – only I
The vigil, the night-vigil
Am making:
And I
And only I
Will my reward receive
For I
And only I
Am seeing
For I
And only I
Am hearing
And I
And only I
Am feeling!
How strange how sere
The feeling!
How from the clear night
The mist of sudden riseth!
And from afar
Past ten long fields
The cemetery is burning
With the pale light
Of the swift moon
That fall
On every wall
This long, long night!
It seems
It seems
That the cemetery’s open:
And yet
And yet
There is no noise
No sound
But from the yews
A soundless sound
Is coming:
A restless sound
Like souls
This night all-aching
And restless
Restless
At some thing
I am not hearing!
Ha! We on earth
Make prisons
And lodge
Bodies – human bodies in them:
And we on earth
Make cemeteries
And lodge
Bodies – human bodies in them
And the long night
Under the light
Of heaven
How waning-blue
And tight
Is coming!
So:
At long last
We fall into a prison
If not the one
In fine to the other
And at the last
And in the last
We enter our last prison:
And in the night
The long and lonely night
The cemetery is shining!

My Heart Is Aching
MY HEART IS ACHING
Because I'm so in pain
my heart is aching because you put me to shame
my heart is aching because you tore it out
my heart is aching because you shut me down
my heart is aching because you said it would be for eternity
my heart is aching because i cant stop hearing your name
that is why i' m in so much pain
Over The Head, Below The Knees
You must not
Have a heart
Have nothing in your chest
To let it go for so long
That it goes over your head
You could fool anyone
With you pensive smile
And you could live in your lie
For only a while
And i can only take so much
(from not so far away)
And I admit this could be love
(but love can always wait)
But it goes over your head
What does she gave
Can you let go
Can you tell me
What I am aching to know
You could ruin any mood
just by saying whats on your mind
You could tame his body
Never tame his mind
And I can only take so much
(from now so far away)
And I admit this could be love
(but how long did you want to wait?)
But it goes over your head
What does she have
Can you let go
Can you tell me
What I am aching to know x2
What I am aching to know
If Im reaching you
You're not letting it show
Used up your space now
Theres no room to grow
To deep cant breath and
You cant find the end
Its right infront of you
But it goes over your head
What does she have
Can you let it go
Can you tell me
What I am aching to know x2
What I am aching to know
Can you tell me
What I am aching to know
You must not have a heart
Have nothing in your chest...

Unclaimed
To make love with a stranger is the best.
There is no riddle and there is no test. --
To lie and love, not aching to make sense
Of this night in the mesh of reference.
To touch, unclaimed by fear of imminent day,
And understand, as only strangers may.
To feel the beat of foreign heart to heart
Preferring neither to prolong nor part.
To rest within the unknown arms and know
That this is all there is; that this is so.

On A Night Like This
Written: brian rawling, mark taylor, steve torch and graham stack
Dont, say, its like a fantasy
When, you, know this is how it should be
You kiss me, Im falling
Can you hear me calling
You touch me, I want you
Feels like Ive always known you
On a night like this
I wanna stay forever, stay forever
On a night like this
Just wanna be together
On a night like this
Now, im, getting closer to you
Hold, me, I just cant be without you
You kiss me, Im falling
Its your name Im calling
You touch me, I want you
Feels like Ive always known you

In The Darkness
Why am I here now
What have I done
Running on empty - I got nowhere to run
Cant get an answer
Cant get it right
Just try to make it
till the end of the night
Is there a way to avoid doing wrong
Lead me away from the darkness
Light up my day show me where I belong
Please dont leave me all alone in the darkness
Far in the distance
There is night, there is day
Sounds are waving nets of dismay
Sometimes Im stuck in a shocking delay
Like in a slow motion movie
Im reaching out for something to hold
Life slips away in the cold - in the cold
My heart is so cold - my heart is so cold
Why was I turned down
Whats going on
I wish there was something that could have been done
How can I get there
Where is the light
How can I make it
till the end of the night
How can I turn darkness to light
Leaving my fear in the darkness
Is there a way how can I overcome
My restless nights and my fear - and my fear
In the darkness - in the darkness - in the darkness

Hardest Part Is The Night (live, Japan)
In the heat of the street of the city
A young boy hides the pain
And he walks so tall, trying to hang on
But he knows he's going down again
I know he's going down...
Darkness fades he's the prince of his city
In a place where they all know your name
You can see in their eyes life so paralyzed.
Your just a pawn in a losin' game
You lose at life it ain't no game
Hear their cries
The hardest part is the night
(In the night, hear their cries, in the night)
Stay alive
The hardest part is the night, it's the night, it's the night...
All alone in a place where the lonely
They all have to walk through the rain
And they dance on the edge where you only
Only pray that it has to end
That the night ain't no friend
Hear their cries
The hardest part is the night
(In the night, hear their cries, in the night)
Stay alive
The hardest part is the night, it's the night, it's the night...
(X 2)
These four walls they could tell you some stories
About lying and dying and fame
There's a price that you pay for the glory
About losing and choosing and pain.
Hear their cries
The hardest part is the night
In the night, hear their cries, in the night
Stay alive
In the night, stay alive, in the night

Whiskey Night
My eyes are aching from the weight on them
The pain of living is such a bore
To make you happy I must bend for you
But I cant take it anymore.
And all the morning birds may laugh at me
But theyve got the same straight jobs to do
And I cant see who is the biggest fool of all
With my eyes all scarred from a whiskey night.
I stumbled around with my eyes half closed
And curse the sun for being so bright
I hold you close, feel your warmth and wonder why
The river of life for you runs right.
And all the morning birds may laugh at me
But theyve got the same straight jobs to do
And I cant see who is the biggest fool of all
With my eyes all scarred from a whiskey night.
My head is poundin as Im sittin here
And my minds not workin like it should
Come on, guitar, youve got to save me
And get me back feelin like I should.

The Tired Worker
O whisper, O my soul! The afternoon
Is waning into evening, whisper soft!
Peace, O my rebel heart! for soon the moon
From out its misty veil will swing aloft!
Be patient, weary body, soon the night
Will wrap thee gently in her sable sheet,
And with a leaden sigh thou wilt invite
To rest thy tired hands and aching feet.
The wretched day was theirs, the night is mine;
Come tender sleep, and fold me to thy breast.
But what steals out the gray clouds like red wine?
O dawn! O dreaded dawn! O let me rest
Weary my veins, my brain, my life! Have pity!
No! Once again the harsh, the ugly city.
