More Than One

Quizmasters often test mentalities,

by asking folks to name pluralities,

of things of many different sorts.

Like soldiers can be called 'cohorts'.

There are 'flights' of geese and jets and stairs,

and socks are sometimes found in 'pairs'.

Young ladies curls are massed in 'bangs',

and crooks unite themselves in 'gangs'.

Such gangs can join to form a 'mafia',

but alas that only rhymes with 'raffia'.

Apes, you'd know, can make a 'shrewdness',

could rednecks joined become a 'rudeness'?

And though Collingwood fans are two a penny,

more than none is 'Too Bloody Many'.

Raped!
Abused,

Terrorism, ladies and gentlemen, in my eyes I have a very, very, very simple explanation. Gangs of criminals, killers, used unfortunately by certain governments in the past for political purposes, who are on their own now as gangs.

Gangs

Gangs I say are like no other,
In it varies the bold schedule
Of a thousand nights.
Gag the criminal as he gagged you,
Lest the minding has upset totally,
Like the gorilla and its warfare on us.
Gangs will make a mother pay,
Leap into the chair of your father.
I say no other than parent and child,
Killing the one is like killing the other.
I am demonstrating a mistake for ever.
Gangs must keep silent, all the time.

Gangs In The Street

Put your hands in the air
You better take care
Your body or your life
Don't think twice
Gonna get what they need
It aint nothing but feed
Better watch what you do
Or you'll know that your through
What would you do
If they were looking at you
What would you say
If they were walking your way
Looks like theres gonna be a showdown
You better not slow down
Better watch what you say (yeah)
'Cuz you know they're not playin'
Don't you look over there
You better not stare
Get down on your knees
You beggin' them please
(ohh)
(chorus)
Gangs in the street
Lookin for you
Looking for me
Gangs in the street
Ready for you
And they're ready for me
(chorus x2)
Put your hands in the air
You better take care
Your body or your life
Don't think twice
Better watch what you say
Or you know that you'll pay
Better watch what you do
Or you know that your through
Gangs in the street
Looking for you
Gangs in the street
Looking for me
Gangs in the street
Hey, you looking for me
Gangs in the street
We're gonna see

Epigram on Women - 0521 - after Amos Bronson Alcott - also attributed to James Mathew Barrie

Oh the goodness of their goodness when they're good,
and the prudeness of their prudeness when they're prude,
but the goodness of their goodness, and the prudeness of their prudeness
are as nothing to their lewdness when they're lewd.

Oh the lewdness of their lewdness when they're lewd,
and the nudeness of their nudity when viewed,
but the lewdness of their lewdness and the nudity of nudeness
are as nothing to their prudeness when pursued!

Epigram on Women
Oh, the gladness of their gladness when they're glad,
and the sadness of their sadness when they're sad,
but the gladness of their gladness and the sadness of their sadness
are as nothing to their badness when they're bad!

Oh, the shrewdness of their shrewdness when they are shrewd,
And the rudeness of their rudeness when they're rude;
But the shrewdness of their shrewdness and the rudeness of their rudeness,
Are as nothing to their goodness when they're good!

Dangers Of War

Gangs of war wrong themselves,
They wound and they hurt
Like the lions and tigers of May.
Of June the cats prowl and launch
To keep danger and the sparkle,
The wounds of a man are tried
And they found me in harmony,
Loathing me as they spoke, like ninjas.
Gangs corrupt and crush the market,
Oppressing is the crime they commit.

Gangs Too Distant

Gangs of fire and ice, their religion is polite,
As their goals are super-respectable,
As there is righteous action in all they accomplish,
A region of space is reserved for their cacophony,
They cajole them into thinking alike,
To gather the praise as praise is grand
Like the distant seas and the remarkable ocean.

Gangs of youths do beat their doors,
Downwards is their strength on the radio,
The police are the calamity and calligraphers
Of a wide community, canoeists are the gangs
Of a river of reality. The best are the prisoners.
Like the distant ocean and the mountains far away.

Penny Pieces

'I keep it, dear papa, within my glove.'
'You do-what sum then usually, my love,
Is there deposited? I make no doubt,
Some penny pieces you are not without.'

'O no, papa, they'd soil my glove, and be
Quite odious things to carry. O no-see,
This little bit of gold is surely all
That I shall want; for I shall only call
For a small purchase I shall make, papa,
And a mere trifle I'm to buy mamma;
Just to make out the change: so there's no need
To carry penny pieces, sir, indeed.'

'O now I know then why a blind man said
Unto a dog which this blind beggar led,-
'Where'er you see some fine young ladies, Tray,
Be sure you lead me quite another way.
The poor man's friend fair ladies used to be;
But now I find no tale of misery
Will ever from their pockets draw a penny:'
The blind man did not see they wear not any.'

The Lost Women

i need to know their names
those women i would have walked with
jauntily the way men go in groups
swinging their arms, and the ones
those sweating women whom i would have joined
after a hard game to chew the fat
what would we have called each other laughing
joking into our beer? where are my gangs,
my teams, my mislaid sisters?
all the women who could have known me,
where in the world are their names?

What's in a Group Name

Why are fish uneducated
When they frequently go to school
If shoal we call a group of fish,
Sometimes there's no fish in a shoal
Starfish, silverfish, cuttlefish
Under what grouping shall they fall

A group of apes shrewdness we call
But they're not shrewd, no, not at all

How to measusre a leopards' leap
Is it by dozen or by feet?

There's one thing common in between
The tiny legumes and the whales
The little legumes can make a pod
The leviathans also can

A group of bears can make a sloth
But many sloths can't make a bear

Herons and bitterns make a siege
Though enemy they do not have

A group of cattle is called a herd
A herd of swan, crane and curlew?
A funny thing, but that I've heard

Not only geese can make a skein
But also thread, silk, wool and yarn
A skein of thread up in the air
Is still a skein, no matter where
A skein of geese high up above
Becomes a gaggle when they land

Why do Platipi make a pile
When they can't even make a fire
Or whenever they make a pile
On top each other do not climb

A group of wildfowl I starved
With or without food they are plump

They said the choughs made chatterings
But I did not hear anything

The rooks are birds so wonderful
They make buildings without a tool
But the name rook is a misnomer
Gambler nor cheats, they are neither

Snipes in a walk that I have seen
Were not on foot but in the air

My Life

I am a nuyoriquen (new York Puerto Rican) born and raised
Living with the Bronx gangs was my craze.
You had to wear your street colors wherever you would go
This was the gang colors that you had to show.

I had to be in three gangs, just to get to school
This had become part of the street rules.
I had to change my jerseys going from turf to turf
And when I’d forget it would get much worse.

Scorpions, Dragons, Lightnings too, and three other
Divisions of Crowns ruled the south Bronx.
Egyptian, Royal, Bohemian Crowns
They had become Bronx renown.

But the most feared was the older gang
The Suicides was their name.
Against all gangs they would go down
Including their brothers from the Bohemian Crowns.

For each gang I had a different name
Derringer for the two derringers I carried
Nava Jo for my climbing skills
Blade for the switch blades I carried.
And with these names I had gained fame.
(ha-ha if you could call it that!)

I knew that I would have to leave these streets
And getting out of the gangs was the biggest feat.
I joined the Army at eighteen years of age
And from there my life did change.
When I was in the streets, I could not write my poetry
For this was punkish for a guy
and they said poetry was a lie.

This was the times of desegregation in Alabama, and Mississippi
And then entering into Vietnam, when the French moved out.
This left an imprint on my mind
and I wasn’t going back into past times.
When I returned back to the states
And went To an army buddies home
and met his family
I knew my past life would be history.

His father was a poet, and the best that I have known
And to change my life to me he had shown.
Anyone can change, with help and determination
And your belief in GOD will be your salvation.

Angel of Death

We found rest when he was absent,
They were in death, in life with absence.
We curved the living as a luxury
To sustain our feelings and emotions
Successfully achieved by our whims and wishes.

Gangs of angels were visualised and found,
Like the dead, these accomplished profoundly,
But a doubt never remained as to why we read
The images of light as something called everything.
The angels became us when they were young and we old.

The death remained on us when we were dead
And living concerned us, as a term to use once.
The deathly ones saw our eyes and ears move,
Where were the angels of death?

So Deep

Almost half of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa
lives on less than one dollar a day
the highest level of poverty in the world.
My little neurotic sexual white mans mind is aloof

Rio De Janeiro at war
The rich amidst abject poverty
Drug gangs armed and desperate
Darling another silk stocking love poem

2 billion people make less than 2 dollars a day
Over a fourth of the world doesn't eat enough
Distribution of wealth is as real as death
Poverty, despair, gangs, guns, ignorance

2.6 billion people have poor sanitation
4100 children die a day from diarrhea
11,700 die a day from AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria
67.5 million children are out of school around the world

Kiss me with disdainful apathy
Suckle our we are going to heaven luxury
Our sweet so called Christian values
Darling isn't our relationship so deep

I do not recommend any legislative action against hermeneutics. I am a liberal person opposed to all unnecessary state limitation of individual liberties. Hermeneutics between consenting adults should not, in my view, be the object of any statutory restrictions. I know, only too well, what it would entail. Hermeneutic speakeasies would spring up all over the place, smuggled Thick Descriptions would be brought in by the lorry-load from Canada by the Mafia, blood and thick meaning would clot in the gutter as rival gangs of semiotic bootleggers slugged it out in a series of bloody shoot-outs and ambushes. Addicts would be subject to blackmail. Consumption of deep meanings and its attendant psychic consequences would in no way diminsh, but the criminal world would benefit, and the whole fabric of civil society would be put under severe strain. Never!

Laundry Spirits

Laundry spirits all around
Stealing things without a sound
When I hang my washing out
Something missing there’s no doubt

An odd sock here an odd sock there
Drives me almost to despair
I wonder if in days gone by
Did my great gran have this, if not why?

Is my washing machine possessed?
Eating socks I do not jest
Doesn’t matter where I look
There’s certainly a mysterious spook

So laundry spirit in the sky
Please give me a reason why
A pair of socks I can understand
But just for one what is your plan?

I’m buying socks that look the same
So I can make up pairs again
So I will have one fewer grey hair
And stop you driving me to despair

Existing to Please

No longer do I make myself assessible to folks.

I'd find myself rearranging my priorities,
At the dropp of a hat.
Wanting some folks to know,
They were special to me.

Those days are gone.
And so are old agendas!

I've updated my own needs.
And I no longer believe...
I should find myself last,
On a list of important things to get done.

If I don't think I belong at number one...
No one will believe I deserve to be!

The relevancy of my life has been changed!
And I had to act fast and drastically.
Before I found myself just existing to please.

It's not always best,
To make things look easy for the rest.
To 'be' or 'not to be' taken for granted...
Is a choice one makes,
And should not become an expected test!

The Poet

who is the poet then?
the master of words,
phrases, rhymes, and symbols...

or the one who wipes the ass
of the old man in the nursing home,
whose family does not come anymore.

or the young gay teacher
in the projects, walking the thin line
between the hatred of gangs, and hope.

or the small time farmer
who planted one last crop,
knowing that the bank was coming
to take it all away.

or the soldier in Iraq,
who stops to help a child up,
and sees his own children miles away;
cant speak, and cant breathe.

or the young man in prison
for something that he did;
just trying to survive, day to day,
and to find a new way.

or the young woman who was raped,
being humiliated on the witness stand,
and they call it justice!

or the man left standing
on the brink of losing it all...
the eyes of his family haunting him;
with nowhere to turn,
and no one to ask for help,
and a gun in his hand!

if poetry then is written
by the hand of God....
the hands are human!

Got More Rhymes

[ VERSE 1 ]
Now from planet to planet, and from star to star
It doesn't really matter, baby, just who you are
And from Earth to solar system, and to galaxy
It's real hard to get a ticket to hear Young MC
Because I rock like a professional, this ain't no lark
You either hear me at a party, or you see me in the park
I rocked the many places far away from my home
I guess that must be the reason why I'm so well known
I rocked from Iowa to Idaho, Canada to Mexico
I came into the place, you party people, just to let you know
My name is the Young MC, ladies want to come to me
And when they're in my arms, the ladies never ever front on me
Thinkin that you know the deal, boy, why don't you be for real
I love to rock the mic, and sometimes even rock the wheels of steel
Rock the place without a doubt, now I'm gonna turn it out
So listen very close, so I can tell you that it's all about
RHYMES
More RHYMES
Party people, I'm the Young MC, and I got RHYMES
Let me tell you something
Young MC got more RHYMES
[ VERSE 2 ]
Now with a voice like this I rock so well
But I'm not Prince, Lionel Richie, or Patti Labelle
I'm not the Cars, the Pretenders, or the B-52's
My name is Young MC, and I'm the one you should choose
Cause when the music comes in, the beat starts thumpin
And I'm the only man to keep the girlies high jumpin
I'm the doctor on the mic, and yes, I'm so sure
That all you need is one visit, then you'll be cured
Cause in the game of rap I am the referee
When the others need help, they'll come to me
Like Judge Joe Wapner on the _People's Court_
My name is Young MC, rockin on the mic is my sport
And now you know, just from those 12 lines
That a fella like me never falls behind
Cause I'm the cream of the crop, and the leader of the pack
Once you give me the mic, you know there's no turnin back
Because I got more rhymes then the other guys do
They're just a monkey, I'm the whole damn zoo
I can't use a book, I use a hefty bag
Because they're just a string, I'm the American flag
I got more rhymes than water seen by a sailor
More than husbands of Elizabeth Taylor
More than Babe Ruth has hit home runs
Yo, my name is Young MC, so go out there and have some fun
With RHYMES
More RHYMES
I gotta tell you something
Young MC got RHYMES
Party people, I got more RHYMES
Bust it
[ VERSE 3 ]
RHYMES - what are these things that I talk about?
Hear them in the walkman everytime you wanna walk about
Never lost a battle in which I fought
And if rhyme was a crime, I'd never get caught
I had to go to college, because I am an intellectual
I only sleep with women, cause I am heterosexual
Rock the microphone anyplace, anytime
That's why I had to write a jam and call it Got More Rhymes
Now as a consequence of this
I'd like to make some sense of this
And tell the party people all the reasons that I sent you this
RHYME that I continue to say
School starts in September, graduation in May
And when I graduate RHYMES'll keep comin
Girls try to flock and jock, but stop bummin
Cause I'm the kinda guy that you never wanna toy with
And now you know that I'm talkin about the boy with
RHYMES
More RHYMES
When you say Young MC, you are sayin RHYMES
Party people, Young MC got more RHYMES
Yeah

The Chain Gang

Borne in the car along a crowded way,
Sun-soaked, I saw the world like shadows glide,
Or phantom boats, upon a running tide,
Driven through flying fog at break of day.
“The chain gang? Yes,” I heard a woman say,
“Here in this very street.” I glanced aside
And saw the fetters that she flashed in pride,
And turned again to watch the world's array.
Clearly I saw men scurrying on the hour,
Young girls who weary all day on dainty feet,
Dandies whose socks betoken infinite pains,
The life that springs and withers like a flower:
I heard the gangs go clanking down the street,
Intolerably patient of their chains.
