Starting Over

There was an infinite stillness as I slowly walked away
The door closed behind me flashing thoughts of a replay
Did I forget something that I had not noticed before
On this long road of rebirth I had to settle an old score
Fighting to sleep without haunting memories in the night
I will admit that nothing seemed familiar or quite right

Behind frosted glass I saw silhouettes that had been hiding
Stepping into the sunlight I was in need of help and guiding
It was like listening to a speech in a crowded illuminated room
But I just longed to bathe in the rain alone on this afternoon
Where tall redwood trees cast shadows all comforting and dark
There I realized that I had repeatedly missed a very clear mark

On tomorrows yesterday I formed important words in my head
But they were held captive in silence sleeping on a rusty iron bed
Running without moving all time stood still in a puddle of mud
Feelings I had to sort out broke free like a powerful storm flood
I am determined not to give in to the comfort of doom and grey
Slowly dancing I am happy because I know everything will be o.k.

Lazy Afternoon

Listening to the haunting voice of Nina Simone
Celebrating time to myself as a temporary loan
Everything is quiet but thoughts are invading
Giving in to temptation reality is slowly fading

Crisp white cotton sheets feel cool on my skin
Soft fluffy clouds granting the remission of sin
Blinds filter the light and the room has a glow
Thoughts of the hierophant from a spread of Tarot

Floating on a dark stream in a great big seashell
Pulled by graceful swans wishing me farewell
I'm dreaming of a dark forest with huge oak trees
A place among moist tall grass puts me at ease

Memories of past times surface on a lazy afternoon
Leaning against the piano like resting in a saloon
Time seems to stand still drowning all evil and fears
While it gets darker outside and the moon appears

A lazy afternoon gives way to a sensual dark night
And thoughts of the one I love urgently excite
Thundering waves rolling in and brake on shore
He undresses slowly after walking through the door

Inertia Creeps

3d
Recollect me darling raise me to your lips
2 undernourished egos 4 rotating hips
Hold on to me tightly Im a sliding scale
Cant endure then you can inhale
Clearly out of body experience
Interferes and dreams of flying I fit nearly
Surrounds me though I get lonely
Slowly
Moving up slowly
Inertia keeps
Shes moving up slowly
Slowly
Moving up slowly
Interia creeps
Moving up slowly
She comes moving up slowly
She comes moving up slowly
Inertia creeps
Moving up slowly
She comes
Moving up slowly (x2)
In my home no chrome as clear as
See me now with my nearest dearest
Been there when Im over-careering
Room shifting is endearing
Between us is our kitchen
Where she finds my irritants itching
Been here before been here forever
Moving up slowly
Inertia keeps moving up slowly
Inertia creeps moving up slowly
Inertia keeps moving up slowly
She comes
Moving up slowly (x2)
She comes moving up slowly
Inertia creeps moving up slowly
She comes
There be no sound in my eiderdown
Awake I lie in the morning blue
Room is still my antenna in you
Nylon burns the bedspread with 2
Gravity zero see me stall
I bounce off the walls lose my footing and fall
It can be sweet though incomplete though
And the frames will freeze see me on all 4s
Its been a long time
She comes (x2)
Comes
I want to x you, she comes
I want to x you, she comes
I caught your radio waves
I caught your radio waves
With tin cans and string
Say you string me along
Say string me along
Say inertia creeps
Inertia creeps and she comes
Say she comes (x4)

Falling

Lost words return to me like fog on rainy afternoons
When conversations lose their meaning like cartoons
I feel the breath of all seconds when the moments stand still
While an eerie silence is circling my aura for a lasting thrill
Shift-shaping memories become illusions of imminent pain
When I scream into the darkness bound by an iron chain

As illicit dreams of travels release meanings previously confined
Quiet tears are gathered as witnesses in ponds for peace of mind
Hiding between mirrored walls is a task spellbindingly clear
When the dust in my eyes makes tomorrow almost disappear
The darkness is warm and comforting in a small empty room
Like compacted dirt piled in layers on a fresh marble tomb

Questions become answers in a familiar world without a sound
As the ice ruptures and angry waves collide on common ground
When glass breaks into a thousand pieces small and undefined
I can compartmentalize my choices written in Braille for the blind
But the lines of my borders become blurry like an infinite grey sky
And breathing appears to be easy when living is just waiting to die

I put my foot down shattering the ground of concrete and steel
But my balance had been lost during a ride on the Ferris wheel
Hiding under the looking glass was an idea that came to me in the rain
Now the umbrella has been lost that shielded me from the pain
Individual sweet notes from a tune long forgotten I now recall
But I can't apply the brakes and in a large mirror I slowly fall

Random Thoughts

I chant my melody as I glance upwards towards the sky,
Though the words I do not fathom.
Rain inundates my dreamscape.

The trees hear my every heartbeat, comforting me.
They give me shade and a shelter from the world when
Hail is falling hard….
They speak to me when the wind blows rustling leaves…

Yesterday, I walked into the afternoon sun- as it
Rose high above the treetops-
The sky appears ominous, as
Dark thunderclouds have formed on the horizon
Today it has begun to storm.
.
I walk into the woods on this sultry evening, as
The remaining sunlight fights the clouds.
Darkness overcomes.

Trees have souls and, branches that embrace,
Opening to hear my silent cries-

I whisper my tune to the wind-although
The words are unintelligible-

Thunder is the pounding of my heart –
Lightening, my silent cries.
The wind captures my every emotion, and
Carries away in song…

Elusive Sleep

Sleep evades me in the night
I listen to sounds make thoughts
which play upon my mind
in the dark of the room I lay
waiting for serenity to come
time passes slowly
as though held imperfect
its warm, too warm for comfort
and too cold beyond the bed sheet
the day has been long, the body aches
still, still sleep evades me
and those sounds, each shadow
play upon the mind more and more
restless and anxious for sleep
to rest, to dream, to be at peace
the elusive sleep in the night
where thoughts consume me

A Song Of Spring

The Spring comes slowly up this way,
Slowly, slowly,
Under a snood of hodden grey.

The black and white for her array,
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

Where is her green that was so gay?
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

Unto a world too sick for May,
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

Where are the lads that used to play?
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

She has no heart for holiday,
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up this way.

The trees are out in Heaven they say.
Slowly, slowly,
The Spring comes slowly up our way.

Coming Of Happy Tomorrows

COMING OF HAPPY TOMORRWS

Dark clouds decorated by silver lining
Floating across gray skies promising
For all those struggling in shadows
About the coming of happy tomorrows

Colors of the splayed sunlight
In the pouring rain shining bright
For all those wondering at the rainbow
About the comings of happy tomorrows

Barks of the bare oak tree
Showing signs of spirit in free
In the wings of flying sparrows
About the comings of happy tomorrows

Smiles of the blooming flowers of spring
Stirring up emotions making bees sing
For all those hiding in burrows
About the comings of happy tomorrows

Gurgles of the streams in flow
Keeping its ripples as wind blows
Calling out for those in bellows
About the comings of happy tomorrows

Glow of sparks underneath the ashes
Shining like stars making a wish
For those deep in the wallow
About the comings of happy tomorrows

Fly By Night

Its hard to say Im sorry.
May we just forget about today.
You see, I fly by night.
I fly by night.
I laid my love beside the door
And left you sleeping on the floor.
So long. I fly by night,
I fly by night.
And though you might think its too bad of me
I have to leave you with used memories.
I have no stomach for the dawn.
I feel I should be moving on
And so I fly by night.
Now lady lucks deserted me.
The ghosts of love stand clear to see.
They also fly by night.
Strange figures in the dark.
Did cupid strike and leave his mark?
It seems his arrows fly by night.
They fly by night.
Lets fly.

The Tall Story

There was a knock on my front door, an angel stood outside!
I looked in shock, dropped to the floor, the door still opened wide.
The angel sighed and then flew in and put the kettle on,
Aware our talk would soon begin when fainting spells had gone.
The tea was ready there for me, he pointed to the cup.
So I drank my hot tea slowly, until that time was up.
He pointed to the living room, where both of us sat down,
My mind still felt a sense of doom and gloom sure makes you frown.
The angel told me, 'Get a pen and get some paper, too! '
So I stood up, right there and then, this very thing to do.
'Write down the words that I recite, when done, I'll have to leave.'
When I began, my face was white and I could hardly breathe.
He took his time and so did I, for twenty pages long,
When done, I heaved a quiet sigh... Were my words right or wrong?
He read it all and was impressed, 'Well done, I'll leave it here.
Please get it published. Do your best. The meaning's crystal clear.'
Then he stood up, walked to the door and so I let him go.
He said, 'God bless! ' and then no more, what more was there to know?
He flew away, past roofs and trees and reached the nearby hill
And soared up higher with such ease, yes, higher, higher still.
When my scanner scanned the pages, it left me quite perplexed,
As it must have taken ages to recognise the text.
I emailed every single word, my publisher replied,
He said he'd never been so stirred, I must've been inspired.
Of course, I couldn't tell him then! He'd get me locked away!
'I met this angel, ten foot ten, at home, this very day! '
So I kept quiet, private like... The published work sold well.
I bought a laptop and a bike, but one day, off I fell.
No guardian angel raised alarm that ice was on the road,
When I fell off, I broke my arm and said, 'Well, I'll be blowed.'
When I got home, I made the tea, got fish and chips that night
And got in bed quite carefully, then prayed with all my might!
The angel knocked upon my door, I sighed then let him in.
This time, because I knew the score, I chose not to begin.
'I'll use the laptop, type it out, then save the text that way.'
The angel looked at me so proud, God's wisdom to relay.
'Well done, please get it published soon! ' I walked him to the door,
He healed my arm, flew past the moon, I waved to him with awe.
That angel's words were good as gold, he certainly had skill.
It's only now my story's told... Make of it what you will...

Every Need In Me

I've got to move...
From memories,
Haunting...
Every need in me!
I've got to move.

I've got to move...
From shadows,
And dark places.

I've got to move...
From despairing melodies,
That keep me in such solitude...
And,
Deep dark gloomy moods!
I've got to move.

I've got to move...
To open all closed windows.
And,
I've got to move...
More than two steps away from doors.

Closed within I've been.
And I've got to...
Leave behind memories,
Haunting...
Every need in me!

I've got to move.
I've got to move...
From memories,
Haunting...
Every need in me!

I've got to move.
I've got to move...
From memories,
Haunting...
Every need in me!

I've got to move.
I've got to move...
From memories,
Haunting...
Every need in me.

I've got to move.
I've got to move.
I've got to move...
From memories,
Haunting...
Every need in me.

Long Ago

Once upon a time
You whispered softly in my ear
Loving words and fairytales
That I longed to hear
I gave you my body and soul
And you took control
As you slowly swept me up
And carried me away

You told me pretty lies
As I held onto you tight
You knew how to get your way
Ignorance was bliss in your warm embrace

Long ago
You used to want me
Now it's all so far away
But you still haunt me
And take me back to yesterday

Every now and then
I drown in thoughts of yesterday
And the fools' paradise that you blew away
I feel you beside me again
And remember when you came to my window
On a dark and stormy day

One

One, where the pale sea foamed at the yellow sand,
With wave upon slowly shattering wave,
Turned to the city of towers as evening fell;
And slowly walked by the darkening road toward it;
And saw how the towers darkened against the sky;
And across the distance heard the toll of a bell.

Along the darkening road he hurried alone,
With his eyes cast down,
And thought how the streets were hoarse with a tide of people,
With clamor of voices, and numberless faces . . .
And it seemed to him, of a sudden, that he would drown
Here in the quiet of evening air, These empty and voiceless places . . .
And he hurried towards the city, to enter there.

Along the darkening road, between tall trees
That made a sinister whisper, loudly he walked.
Behind him, sea-gulls dipped over long grey seas.
Before him, numberless lovers smiled and talked.
And death was observed with sudden cries,
And birth with laughter and pain.
And the trees grew taller and blacker against the skies
And night came down again.

Dark Expression

A dark expression of feelings I often have although true expression of feelings I often fail. Why do I say that? Let me think as to why? Maybe, because life has brought a dark night and this night appears to be long. Such a silent night it is and this is good in a way. Sometimes, too much silence can actually be haunting. I guess today is a night of such type and slowly although surely it will pass away. Dark expression of feelings the night of today has.

Silhouettes

Silhouettes, silhouettes, silhouettes,
Silhouettes, silhouettes, silhouettes.
Took a walk and passed your house late last night,
All the shades were pulled and drawn way down tight.
From within the dim light cast two silhouettes on the shade.
Oh what a lovely couple they made.
Put his arms around your waist, held you tight.
Kisses I could almost taste, in the night.
Wondered why Im not the guy whose silhouettes on the shade.
I couldnt hide the tears in my eyes.
Silhouettes, silhouettes, silhouettes,
Silhouettes, silhouettes, silhouettes.
Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore,
Let me in or else Ill beat down your door.
Saw two strangers who had been two silhouettes on the shade,
My heart skipped a beat I was on the wrong street.
Rushed down to your house with wings on my feet,
Loved you like Ive never loved you my sweet.
Vowed that you and I would be, two silhouettes on the shade.
All of our days two silhouettes on the shade.
Silhouettes, silhouettes, silhouettes,
Silhouettes, silhouettes, silhouettes.
Two silhouettes on the shade.

Happy Thoughts, Happy Thoughts, Think Happy Thoughts

I have to keep reminding myself to forget you.
Forget you and me.
(Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, think happy thoughts.)
You wanted me to promise to never say it again
Those three words
(Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, think happy thoughts)
Which is laughably easy to do right now because
We are so far out of touch I couldn’t reach you if I tried
(Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, think happy thoughts)
So I plod through grey days and inky dark nights
Heavy laden with regret
(Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, think happy thoughts)
Tomorrow I will remind myself to forget you.
Forget you and me.

D & G

Rain drops hiding my tears
Holding inside deep, all of my fears
Of doom and gloom I write
Dark heavy clouds, no sunlight.

Walls are moving in,
Holding captive all of my sins
Darkness pervades
No sunshine to cast any shade.

In the darkness, no light
Save your smile so bright
I scribe the blues in gloom
Finger pointing inwards, indicating doom.

Time rushes by fast,
More now behind, in the past
Try to keep your mind light
Let your dreams take flight.

0008 A Ghazal

I lie awake as the light night-rain falls, listening
to its irregularities, listening

as the breeze blows it now and then
against the window and the curtain flutters; listening

and wondering if I can hear
the rain listening

to itself, as if – I sometimes think I hear this –
there’s a moment just before it stops as if listening

to its own decision to stop, as if it sighs,
thinks, that’s enough; it could be listening

to the gratitude of the closed flowers, the wet earth,
the ecstasy of roots which are themselves listening

to the flowers sleeping, sighing in their sleep.
But do you wonder why I’m listening

instead of sleeping, this warm rainy night?
What’s so important that it needs my listening?

It was the rain that woke me; and as I turned, sighed,
it was the thought of you last night here next to me, listening

not to me, but to your own dreams – which I may never share;
though I may share you in my listening

to your sweet sleep’s breath, felt faintly on my shoulder;
and so, there’s a question in my listening –

did you awake at the same night rain, you so far away,
awake, sigh, and in your half-awakened listening

know that I too, thought of you?
Sighed that sweet thought, of our shared, single listening? …

As the perfume of a rose may be more evocative than the rose,
So sweeter, steadier than thought, dream, memory – the listening!

October Day

The bright white clouds against the blue
are moving slowly, passing through.
Their shadows cast upon the ground
move slowly too without a sound.
The winter sunshine’s slanted rays.
Join in the game and seem to chase
the shadows which the clouds have cast
Shining brightly when they’ve passed.
The sky is clear unbroken blue.
It feels a little warmer too.
A little sunshine does I find
lift up my spirits change my mind
about the way I view the day
I do not like it when it’s grey.
