Lazy Afternoon
Listening to the haunting voice of Nina Simone
Celebrating time to myself as a temporary loan
Everything is quiet but thoughts are invading
Giving in to temptation reality is slowly fading
Crisp white cotton sheets feel cool on my skin
Soft fluffy clouds granting the remission of sin
Blinds filter the light and the room has a glow
Thoughts of the hierophant from a spread of Tarot
Floating on a dark stream in a great big seashell
Pulled by graceful swans wishing me farewell
I'm dreaming of a dark forest with huge oak trees
A place among moist tall grass puts me at ease
Memories of past times surface on a lazy afternoon
Leaning against the piano like resting in a saloon
Time seems to stand still drowning all evil and fears
While it gets darker outside and the moon appears
A lazy afternoon gives way to a sensual dark night
And thoughts of the one I love urgently excite
Thundering waves rolling in and brake on shore
He undresses slowly after walking through the door

Starting Over
There was an infinite stillness as I slowly walked away
The door closed behind me flashing thoughts of a replay
Did I forget something that I had not noticed before
On this long road of rebirth I had to settle an old score
Fighting to sleep without haunting memories in the night
I will admit that nothing seemed familiar or quite right
Behind frosted glass I saw silhouettes that had been hiding
Stepping into the sunlight I was in need of help and guiding
It was like listening to a speech in a crowded illuminated room
But I just longed to bathe in the rain alone on this afternoon
Where tall redwood trees cast shadows all comforting and dark
There I realized that I had repeatedly missed a very clear mark
On tomorrows yesterday I formed important words in my head
But they were held captive in silence sleeping on a rusty iron bed
Running without moving all time stood still in a puddle of mud
Feelings I had to sort out broke free like a powerful storm flood
I am determined not to give in to the comfort of doom and grey
Slowly dancing I am happy because I know everything will be o.k.

Evil Darkness
Slowly darkness decends as the sensible run and hide,
because with the dark comes the mist, like a dank chilling tide.
The moon shines weakly through the haze as though very afraid,
in the darkness of the night, a new terror will be concieved and made.
The mist moves slowly but for a moment and then is very still,
in the dim light stands a creature, tall and coldly evil.
No form does it have to touch or kill, no way to pull it down,
but ice cold power does it hold, and in your own terror you will drown.
Now one sensless fool puts aside his fear, he will face this evil foe,
this night he will stand his ground, but the out-come would not be so.
Drawn into this evil he was absorbed but for one dropp of blood,
for there upon the ground that night, a new evil grew from the mud.
Now a new evil has been concieved and together on dark nights will roam,
so when it's dark and dank outside.....be sure to stay at home!

The Ocean
1969 live version
--------------------------------------------
Here comes the ocean
And the waves down by the shore
Here comes the ocean
And the waves down by the sea
Earth is a hollow hair bought of a bigger head
It nearly drives me crazy
I am a lazy son
I never get things down
...(unknown)
But here comes the waves
Down by the shore
Washing the eye of the land
That has been down by the sea
Down by the sea
Down by the sea
Down by the sea
Here comes the ocean and the waves
Down by the shore
Here comes the ocean and the waves
Down by the sea

It nearly drives me crazy
I am a lazy son
I never get things done

Here comes the waves down by the shore
Washing the eye of the land that has been down by the sea
Down by the sea
Here come the waves
Here come the waves
Here come the waves

Here comes the ocean
And the waves
Down by the sea
Here comes the ocean
And the waves
Where have they been?
Silver and black with night
Heres to a summers night
An empty splendid castle
Glowering alone at night
The princess has had a fright
Madness seeks out the lover
And here come the waves down by the shore
Washing the soul of the body
That comes from the depths of the sea
Here comes the ocean
And the waves down by the sea
Here comes the ocean
And the waves, where have they been
Dont swim tonight my love
The tide is out my love
Malcoms curse haunts our family
Oh yes, loud in which, ruler of filthy seas, revelling heavans justice
And here come the waves
And save for a scream
Theres much like a song
To be heard, in the wind, that blows by the sea.
Like the wind
Here come the waves,
Here come the waves,
Here come the waves

Deep Water
Is it a crime for me to be feeling this way
I'm going out of my mind and there's
no change from a runaway love
Is it a dream (is it a dream)
That I'm throwing in the wishing well
I'm losing control my body and soul
(body and soul)Standing here waiting
for a train that may never come
I saw the signs I read the books
I should of had a second look
ut you caught me dreaming
nd there were times you'd come around a
we'd agreed to just be friends tell
me who it's fooling oooo
Deep water I'm drowning
Deep water I'm slowly drowning in deeper
Deep water I'm drowning
Deep water I'm slowly drowning in deeper
what do I say(what can I say)
where words have failed me before
what do i do when i'm feeling so blue
and there's no place for me to run and hide
I saw the sun inside your smile and wished
for then just awhile cause boy you caught
me dreaming a giant step into the dark
and we through caution to the wind tell
me who we're fooling oooo
Deep water I'm drowning
deep water i'm slowly drowning in deeper
Deep water i'm drowning
deep water i'm slowly drowning deeper
i'm drowning

Youre sliding down a dream, o yea. where nights are born in blue, thats the truth. youre swimming in a stream, o yea. fish are jumping too, next to you.
Suddenly you notice someones at the door, you could swear youve been through this all before.
Then she runs her fingertips through your hair. your life has just begun. her fingers, they are everywhere. youre floating light like air, leaving the ground and she shines on just like the sun
Youre gazing at the sky, o my. the stars are out tonight, shining bright. youre waving to a cloud, bye-bye. youre drowning in the smile of his eyes. suddenly you feel theres no time for a de
Ough a voice tells you its for real.
And she runs her fingertips through your hair and life has just begun. her fingers, there and everywhere. youre floating light like air, leaving the ground. she-she shines on just like the sun.
Its just a sunny afternoon. somebodys singing songs of love, child. you love a lazy afternoon once in a while.

You are a woman
If your identity
is insecurity,
self image,
body image,
self hate, self blame,
repetitive dark thoughts
cluttering your mind;
not worthy,
not beautiful,
not thin enough, not tall enough,
not smart enough,
not dark enough, not white enough........
It's time to stop,
It's time to love and accept your self.
It's time to be gentle and kind to your self,
Take it easy
Take it slowly
One day at a time
One minute at a time.
Connect to the light,
connect to your inner strength.
Call upon the wisdom of your higher power
that made you as you are;
Beautiful in every way.
Feel empowered......
The strength will lift you high
on wings of optimism you will fly
You are a women.................

Myriad Thoughts
I sit here in myriad thoughts
dancing around my head
too fed up to put them to bed.
Thoughts of the past,
thoughts of the future too,
thoughts of things this and that
and thoughts of what to do.
Memories invade at times
of pastures long gone by
as the myriad thoughts
fill my mind with anger and with love
and times; I wish I could have lingered with
when my years were young.
Things pass in phases,
hearts entwine then fall apart,
seasons readily appear,
stay awhile and then depart.
Here I sit in a lonely waste
thinking thoughts of what might have been
if the crystal ball I look into had only seen.
Now the myriad thoughts appear
to haunt me in quiet times
and carry me to distant places
the world has left behind.
Those little specks of moments
that still linger from the past
that lay waiting to capture me
before the quiet time has passed.

Elderly Women Behind The Counter In A Small Town
i seem to recognize your face
haunting, familiar, yet i can't seem to place it
cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
lifetimes are catching up with me
all these changes taking place, i wish i'd seen the place
but no one's ever taken me
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
i swear i recognize your breath
memories like fingerprints are slowly raising
me, you wouldn't recall, for i'm not my former
it's hard when, you're stuck upon the shelf
i changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate
perhaps that's what no one wants to see
i just want to scream...hello...
my god its been so long, never dreamed you'd return
but now here you are, and here i am
hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
hearts and thoughts they fade...

I went out early this morning to take a walk and see the world
At its unfolding, Skies grey and moving slowly away from light,
The dim lights, Pushing away dark clouds vice versa tugging each other Perhaps not wanting to part (Whatever happened last night? Nobody wants to recall)
Towards an edge on the right corner of the gym, Everything is shadowy (Like a dawn tryst In a tight room so foul
Filled with cheap perfume Beating warmth like Pink baby rats)
A black outline of coconut trees, Some houses appearing as smoke
Rising to the skies Like men smoking, Letting go off The sighs inside
their hearts
They are huge and keeps a chest full of Frogs wanting to jump
Into the pond, their dreams croak and croak
Throughout this hot summer Pleading to the white heronFor rain and more rain Lest they die
What arrived instead is the plow, Their territories cut into small pieces
And some will have no place to live, I am referring to the frogs
like men And the children Of the little space This pond drying itself
To death. The air is thin and sharp to the feel Of guts
Gathering the early dusts of the south bound road, And few raindrops
Fell on the chalky pathways some two or Three farm children running for cover,
I walk fast, trying to outrun The children, the frogs, the men,
And the shadowy coconut trees, Fast and faster still Like my thoughts running and running In circles Oval to this gym
The first ray is coming out From the edge of a grey cloud Pushed towards a darker side To my eyes Lights stab and light
With more light Gushing forth from the stomach
Of dawn.
Someone just performed The ritual of morning The birth Of another day, I walk past time And must go home on time
I have my lover for breakfast Waiting And some thoughts
Running and running thoughts wanting To stop.

I Dreamed Of Forest Alleys fair
I.
I DREAMED of forest alleys fair
And fields of gray-flowered grass,
Where by the yellow summer moon
My Jenny seemed to pass.
I dreamed the yellow summer moon,
Behind a cedar wood,
Lay white on fields of rippling grass
Where I and Jenny stood.
I dreamed - but fallen through my dream,
In a rainy land I lie
Where wan wet morning crowns the hills
Of grim reality.
II.
I am as one that keeps awake
All night in the month of June,
That lies awake in bed to watch
The trees and great white moon.
For memories of love are more
Than the white moon there above,
And dearer than quiet moonshine
Are the thoughts of her I love.
III.
Last night I lingered long without
My last of loves to see.
Alas! the moon-white window-panes
Stared blindly back on me.
To-day I hold her very hand,
Her very waist embrace -
Like clouds across a pool, I read
Her thoughts upon her face.
And yet, as now, through her clear eyes
I seek the inner shrine -
I stoop to read her virgin heart
In doubt if it be mine -
O looking long and fondly thus,
What vision should I see?
No vision, but my own white face
That grins and mimics me.
IV.
Once more upon the same old seat
In the same sunshiny weather,
The elm-trees' shadows at their feet
And foliage move together.
The shadows shift upon the grass,
The dial point creeps on;
The clear sun shines, the loiterers pass,
As then they passed and shone.
But now deep sleep is on my heart,
Deep sleep and perfect rest.
Hope's flutterings now disturb no more
The quiet of my breast.

After Love Is Gone!
Quiet mornings without love,
too many evenings without tenderness,
too many days without a kiss,
no one to share success with.
Love songs just refresh the pain,
memory clouds will bring the rain,
at times like these,
I wish the breeze,
would shine the sun again.
No love to ease a failure,
as if no where to go,
no one to give the sympathy,
that a heart must have to grow.
A future without dreams,
no more goals to meet tomorrow,
only thoughts of times gone by,
and thoughts of recent sorrow.
' Farewell and please be careful ',
is what she said to me,
I bid farewell and closed that door,
... not wanting to be free,
... not wanting to believe.
Here I stand ; free anyhow,
there isn't much for me to do,
except to go ahead with life,
and wait for something new.

Three Dark Shadows
Three dark
Shadows lurking
In the dark park
On a dark night
One leads
The two others
Follow wearing
Black raincoats
On a dark road
I lead
I tell them
My name
My work
My place
The two
Did not follow
Since then
They realized
Perhaps that
With what
I tell them
I am blacker
Than black
On a dark
Raincoat
On a dark
Park
On a dark
Road
&
In my dark
Mind
It would
Be so hard
For them
To follow
Through &
Through.
They quit
They split
&
So I
Walk alone
In the dark
As one lonely
Shadow
Darker than
Dark
&
Now
It is you
Here
Following me?
In fact
We change
And it is
You
In effect
Who is
Leading me
Through
These lines
Flowing
Slowly
Gradually
Getting
Darker than
Dark
You have
Indulged &
Surely
You are
Involved
Deeply
Long enough
You win
& lose…

Love Aches
Have you ever craved the waves of flowers perfume
That float in the garden of roses under the moon sheen loom
They come and go whence no one knows at night gloom
As spring renewed his reign in colors and in splendor bloom
Thoughts of sadness wave and sail in my mind
They come and go leaving memories of pain and agony behind
Like that keen fragrance in the garden, born on the wings of soft wind
And yet none of the flow of thoughts is soft, soothing or kind
But in the instant the thoughts of air remain
To ignite the memory I knew of laughter and of joyful pain
Of times unlike now that will not come again.
The mountains of aching thoughts the earth under heavy clouds of rain
I try to catch and subdue my mind of these many tunes
Like tears of light fallen from the forlorn moon,
Flattened, scattered and bright on a dark lagoon,
Where high reeds lull and sway by echoing duns
But my mind is dissolved under such bare
My anguish floats away, I am too timid, for who can hold
The pain of Youth, the perfume of a flower or a moon so bold?
Where one can ask the strength to dare?

Facing The Sun, Late Afternoon
driving back home
at the white bridge
the light of the sun
that later afternoon
blinds me, like
what i feel today
i close my eyes
see shadows
let them all inside
my heart,
i open my eyes
half asleep
letting all the shadows
simmer like
i am a dry earth
receiving a little rain,
thoughts run like water
boredom is the dryness
the ennui
fleeting memories
haunt like thoughts
coming back at me
with swords and scales.
'what am i doing here? '
i stop the car, get out from there
and stand on the side of the
white bridge.
'i am doing nothing'.
the water below is silent.

The Eclipse
‘My thoughts are often consumed by death
And the dark side of the Moon, '
I said to Jane as she sensed my pain
On that Sunday afternoon,
We'd sat through the morning sermon
Of the Tempting on the Mount,
‘The Devil is often abroad, ' she said,
‘More times than we can count! '
‘Yet God is the infinite mystery,
He never has shown himself,
He doesn't swoop down to rescue us
Or curb the excess of wealth! '
I said there were so many questions
That had led me into doubt,
But Jane, the waif, had a simple faith
And she turned me inside out.
‘Look at the trees and bushes here
And the way they propagate,
And every species to its kind,
We're all in the hands of fate.
He works his wonders in full view
We need to open our eyes,
For his is the great creative force, '
She said, and her words were wise!
The sky had suddenly darkened
It was coming on to rain,
We dashed to the nearest clump of trees
And I reached for the hand of Jane,
I held her tight in the fading light
Sought heaven through her lips,
And fell to the leaf-strewn forest floor
Where we stayed through the sun's eclipse.
The day had become as black as night,
It was eerie, through the gloom,
As we made the wildest, passionate love
On a Sunday afternoon,
And the seed I left at the rising crest
Of our love, and the sun's eclipse,
Was the seed of the Great Creator, found
At the warmth of a woman's lips!

Duet with a Peony
A dark red peony
Darker red than
The crown of a rooster
Swollen with pride
Stood on the grand piano
The petals fall
On the black and white ivories
I hear a quiet pianissimo tone
A haunting sense of emptiness
Soft and mysterious
Constant change of mood
The last piece of satin red petal
With hint of jazz
Morph into a smooth abscission
Like a saxophonist flirting the soft piano
I close my eyes
Red petals bursting up the piano keys
Like fireworks, a fleeting dream
Dazzling array of pianistic explosions
And me, duet with a dark red peony
June Afternoon
Didnt I tell you everything is possible in this dj vu?
Try the river boat, the carousel, feed the pigeons, bar-b-q.
Look at all the people, happy faces all around.
Smiling, throwing kisses, busy making lazy sounds
Its a bright june afternoon, it never gets dark.
Wah-wah! here comes the sun.
Get your green, green tambourine, lets play in the park.
Wah-wah! here comes the sun
Some folks are on blankets, slowly daydreaming
And reaching for their food.
Lets go buy an ice-cream and a magazine with an attitude
And put on a cassette, we can pretend that youre a star
Cos lifes so very simple just like la-la-la
Its a bright june afternoon...
Theres a painter painting his masterpiece.
There are some squirrels jumping in the trees,
Theres a wide-eyed boy with a red balloon.
All my life Ive longed for this afternoon.
