Royal Chamber of King Marthandavarma

In the royal chamber
Eyeballs roll on surprise back.
There destiny slept to wake up
In red dawns, centuries back.
Cool it’s wooden roof under.

Artists carved all fair in fear,
Who will tell me their names?
Thought incense always smoldered;
Now fragrance is only in whims.
“White soul rides on midnight horse” -where?

Maids’ dressing room stood blushed,
So close to the royal chamber.
Though with marks of tension waves withdrawn,
Floor is like a serene shore there.
And moonstruck bed is pale and hushed.

Guards with swords always roamed,
Now visitors with cameras wander,
But the sands in courtyard are the same.
With a ticket, even a layman does enter;
Changed to change I floated.

The Prisoner

THERE, where the swift Rhone's waters flow
Its verdant banks between;
Where fragrant myrtles bending grow,
And Rhone reflects their green;
There, where the vineyards deck the hills,
And o'er the valleys spread,
Which golden citrons' fragrance fills,
And plantains rear their head—

There stood, as sunk the lord of day,
Upon the smiling shore,
One who long watch'd the waters play,
And thought his sorrows o'er;
A Russian hero— stolen by war,
The honour of the Don;
Divided from his friends afar,
He wander'd there alone.

'O roll!' he sang, 'ye waters roll—
Flow in your glory on;
Your waves shall waken on my soul
The memory of the Don.
My days pass by without an aim,
Amidst life's busy roar;
For what is life without its fame,
Or the bright world?— 'tis poor.

'Now nature wears its spring-tide dress,
The sun shines splendidly;
All liberty and loveliness—
O! why am I not free?
O roll, ye waters! rage, thou Rhone!
And waken, as ye roll,
The thoughts of my domestic zone
Within my troubled soul.

'The maidens here are fair and bright,
Their glance is full of fire;
And their all-graceful smiles of light
Might satisfy desire
'But what is love in foreign lands,
Or joy?— I only know
The joy and love that bless our sands,
Midst forests and midst snow.

'Give me my freedom— let me tread
Once more my country's strand;
With frost and storm all overspread—
My home— my father-land!
Deep is the snow around my door;
But give me my own steed,
And day and night, the mountains o'er,
Me to my home he'll lead.

'At home, there's one who sits and keeps
The memory of her love;
And often to the window creeps,
And pours her prayers above.
She guards the thoughts of him whose mind
Guards every thought of her;
She pats the horse I left behind—
How privileged to be there!

'O roll, thou Rhone! ye waters roll—
Rush in your glory on;
Your waves still waken in my soul
The memory of the Don.
Come, winds! come hither from the north,
Come, in your freshness, come:
And thou bright pole-star blazen forth,
Memento of my home!'

So spake the prisoner, as he turn'd
To Lyons his tired eye,
When long in exile's chains he mourn'd
His hapless destiny.
He sang— the Rhone roll'd proudly on,
The moon oft kiss'd its tide;
And oft on Lyons' turrets shone
The sun in all his pride.

Chamber

I sit on the cold chamber floor and think, I think about how things should have been and how they turned out to be
I sit on the cold chamber floor and I remember when it was just you and me, I remember all the times we shared and how nothing could compare to the way you made me feel
I sit on the cold chamber floor and I try, I try to forget all the pain that I feel
I lay on the cold chamber floor and I wait, I wait for death to come and take me away

Slave killers

fated to serve
the master
this life
and the next
black america
should cry
gratitude
to the great god
in this case
in the darkest of Borneo
as the crickets shrill
you still see
large carved wooden poles
totem poles
with devil faces
looming over the trees
darkened by
a century of rain,
slavery tears
and as you delve
look into the crevices
carved from hundred year old tree
shrill of the crickets
croak of toads, amphibians
pale in comparison
to cry amplified in your ear
a lord's death
always accompanied
by a slave
emaciated, drenched away
in the sweltering
tropical heat
in a chamber just below
taking the greatest
blow from master
that but now was
still as a log
but yet powerful as lord
slowly, and slowly
he succumbed
to a death
befitting of slaves
the worms
from the upper chamber
swarmed all over
to claim him
carry him away
to serve
the lord
slowly
he slipped away
giving up on life
and death
taking whatever would come
this life
next life
succumbing
to what he thought
is god's will

SEA-MAD (A Breton Maid)

Three waves of the sea came up on the wind to me!
One said:
"Away! he is dead!
Upon my foam I have flung his head!
Go back to your cote, you never shall wed!—
(Nor he!)"

Three waves of the sea came up on the wind to me.
Two brake.
The third with a quake
Cried loud, "O maid, I'll find for thy sake
His dead lost body: prepare his wake!"
(And back it plunged to the sea!)

Three waves of the sea came up on the wind to me.
One bore—
And swept on the shore—
His pale, pale face I shall kiss no more!
Ah, woe to women death passes o'er!
(Woe's me!)

Ære Perennius

Look on the dead. Stately and pure he lies
Under the white sheet's marble folds. For him
The solemn bier, the scented chamber dim,
The sacred hush, the bowed heads of the wise,
The slow pomp, the majestical disguise
Of haughty death, the conjurer—even for him,
Poor trivial one, pale shadow on the rim,.
Whom life marked not, but death may not despise.
Now is he level with the great; no king
Enthroned and crowned more royal is, more sure
Of the world's reverence. Yesterday this thing
Was but a man, mortal and insecure;
Now chance and change their homage to him bring
And he is one with all things that endure.

Kiswar Q'inti

The Royal Hummingbird of the North has entered this body
penetrating the solar plexus
infiltrating each cell
she brings with her the sweetness of all the flowers of the world
How can I be angry for even one second that you are gone?

She brings with her the Ancestors
the Grandmothers and Grandfathers
now I will never be alone
How can I ever be insincere again?

The vigilant Falcon who lived here before is confused
now the Hummingbird and the Falcon must make their peace
May it be so

This is my victory:
You are not the first longing thought as I wake to the morning
You are not the last night-thought as I fall into dreaming

This is my task:
To hold the tension between the miraculous and the tragic.

In The Chamber Of Solitude

Trapped alone
In the chamber of solitude
Surrounded by empty spaces
Quietly drinking a beer
And smoking a cigarette...
Unaware of the outside world
A meeting takes place
Of my mind and heart,
Looking for a reconciliation
And a possible solution
For what I am going through
In this 'my tormented life'
Now and then
A thought of you comes across
Briefly I get excited but must stay cool...
Just another thought which I shall reject,
And gain back my self-respect...
Now this point of time in my life
There are just words without sounds
I must let the music play in the outside
While my life is reviewed
In this chamber of solitude...

St. Margaret's Eve

Saint Margaret's Eve it did befall,
The waves roll so gayly O,
The tide came creeping up the wall,
Love me true!

I opened my gate; who there should stand--
The waves roll so gayly O,
But a fair lady, with a cup in her hand,
Love me true!

The cup was gold, and full of wine,
The waves roll so gayly O,
'Drink,' said the lady, 'and I will be thine,'
Love me true!

'Enter my castle, lady fair,'
The waves roll so gayly O,
'You shall be queen of all that's there,'
Love me true!

A gray old harper sang to me,
The waves roll so gayly O,
'Beware of the Damsel of the Sea!'
Love me true!

In hall he harpeth many a year,
The waves roll so gayly O,
And we will sit his song to hear,
Love me true!

'I love thee deep, I love thee true,'
The waves roll so gayly O,
'But ah! I know not how to woo,'
Love me true!

Down dashed the cup, with a sudden shock,
The waves roll so gayly O,
The wine like blood ran over the rock,
Love me true!

She said no word, but shrieked aloud,
The waves roll so gayly O,
And vanished away from where she stood,
Love me true!

I locked and barred my castle door,
The waves roll so gayly O,
Three summer days I grieved sore,
Love me true!

For myself a day, a night,
The waves roll so gayly O,
And two to moan that lady bright,
Love me true!

Royal princess

She was just waiting for me to come
With eyes wide open in disbelief to welcome
It was unusual to call me at little odd hours
I took it as special invitation and honor

She was from royal family and surrounded by loyalists
But fallen for me with unknown qualities as an artists
It was not done in royal circles as they were considered
Special class born to rule and for others to obey as ordered

The mass contacts were essential and so was the conduction of tours
As populist measures the relations were not allowed to sour
Their grievances were heard and addressed on the spot
All culprits and thieves were pursued and definitely caught

It was honor to be part of royal family
There might have been no dearth to accompany
There was tested loyalty and no doubts for integrity
This was taken as strict law and confirmed as very good quality

I used to accompany royal family as a trusted lieutenant
It was high honor to present the show when dignitaries were present
I was real star when court room was flooded with guests
Many artists may come on stage to perform with their best

I was not be enjoyed with royal hospitality for days to come
The water had flown over head and took different turn
It was feared that I will be done away with or deported
Certainly the royal decree was in disfavor and reported

Royal princess was adamant and not willing to surrender
She had expressed her strong resolve and defined with anger
Now I feared the royal forces may follow me and hunt
This was the last with on earth I really wished or wanted

She called me for patch up and offered royal hand
I senses trouble and had to return it with loyalty band
“I was not to do thing which may spell doom for her future”
She appreciated the sentiments and took the gesture for sure

I get shiver in spine when that memory surfaces
It gives me enough of astonishment with her kind face
She never faltered in her stand and stood firm
She was real royal blood and I proudly confirm

This Is Only The Beginning

when steps proceed to
another journey making marks on the shore
the sands are not without understanding
what is happening to the waves
and the pebbles
the waves arrive on an infinite
folding and unfolding
on such a monotonous acrobatic
of foam and air
and hush and push
coming back and going away
i have the courage to say
well, what could all these be
but always beginnings...i have not seen
any ending at all, where?

Royal Bengal Tiger

Royal bengal tiger!
When swim to pass across river
Target is determined.
Just straight forward move on
To reach that place has set out.

Ever if waves move little
Back to the beginning point.
Straight a must
No left no right
Upright - just.

Royal bengal do not know,
jostle and joggle
He knows-
Hazardous jolt,
Frightening thunderbolt!

Eyes are radiant with glory
Trustworthy.
Richer colour for
Amazing stripes
Created ancient myth and folklore

Royal bengal tiger never agree with
Mischievous counsel of jackals.

These Dreams

Dust swirled all around
But the heli couldn’t leave the ground
With all my might I tried and tried
But my old friends still left my eyes
Some diamonds broken in my hands
A toaster burned cool as a fan
Skeletons dancing in the glass
1 and a million rainbows pass
Change Scene

I’ve met him now a couple times
The one who tries to kill my mind
At first he came and shots rang out
All through my soul and fear ran out
Next he came at me with swords
But this beast would settle the score
My goodness would soon be overcome
At least I had him on the run
Change Scene

With my daughter at the marketplace
Then the sky turned black as space
Bombs and gunfire were coming to us
Mobs of people were running through us
This time he came out of the norm
How could I fight something with no form?
Just when I thought I would cash in the day
Destiny said she wanted to play
Change Scene

Smiling teardrops and laughing frowns
All dressed in black, send in the clowns
A fat man sat on a mountain of meals
The hungry man still had to beg for a deal
Bricks on the floor were banning together
This time for sure they’d stand up forever
No one for miles to dance the last call
I slept
It was only a dream after all

The Royal Scam

And they wandered in
From the city of st. john
Without a dime
Wearing coats that shined
Both red and green
Colors from their sunny island
From their boats of iron
They looked upon the promised land
Where surely life was sweet
On the rising tide
To new york city
Did they ride into the street
See the glory
Of the royal scam
They are hounded down
To the bottom of a bad town
Amid the ruins
Where they learn to fear
An angry race of fallen kings
Their dark companions
While the memory of
Their southern sky was clouded by
A savage winter
Every patron saint
Hung on the wall, shared the room
With twenty sinners
See the glory
Of the royal scam
By the blackened wall
He does it all
He thinks hes died and gone to heaven
Now the tale is told
By the old man back home
He reads the letter
How they are paid in gold
Just to babble in the back room
All night and waste their time
And they wandered in
From the city of st. john without a dime
See the glory
Of the royal scam

The Dream

Believe me, this was true last night,
Tho' it is false to-day.
-- A.M.F. Robinson.

A fair dream to my chamber flew:
Such a crowd of folk that stirred,
Jested, fluttered; only you,
You alone of all that band,
Calm and silent, spake no word.
Only once you neared my place,
And your hand one moment's space
Sought the fingers of my hand;
Your eyes flashed to mine; I knew
All was well between us two.

* * * * *

On from dream to dream I past,
But the first sweet vision cast
Mystic radiance o'er the last.

* * * * *

When I woke the pale night lay
Still, expectant of the day;
All about the chamber hung
Tender shade of twilight gloom;
The fair dream hovered round me, clung
To my thought like faint perfume:--
Like sweet odours, such as cling
To the void flask, which erst encloses
Attar of rose; or the pale string
Of amber which has lain with roses.

Rippling Childhood Memories

Rippling Childhood Memories
Melvin Banggollay

Sitting in solitude in the bank of a river
I behold waves to keep coming back
Gently kissing the shore long and forever
With their murmuring songs like flashback
While cool breeze rippled the serene water
With sweet memories just like a while back
When I used to play in this pristine river
Along with childhood friends on the block.

When I gaze the surface of the serene river
I saw smiles of swimming kids like ducks
Merrily playing as they build castle’s tower
along the river’s shore but waves took them back
with splashing moves from the naughty players
playing and throwing mud from the river bank
but at a distance I behold two young lovers
Building a castle of their own fortune and luck.

Who’s that, well that was me and girl of my life.

The Raven

[Spoken Track]
[Poe:]
Once upon a midnight dreary
as I pondered, weak and weary
over many a quaint and curious
volume of forgotten lore
while I nodded, nearly napping
suddenly there came a tapping
as of some one gently rapping
rapping at my chamber door
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered
"tapping at my chamber door
only this and nothing more."
Muttering I got up weakly
always I've had trouble sleeping
stumbling upright my mind racing
furtive thoughts flowing once more
I, there hoping for some sunrise
happiness would be a surprise
loneliness no longer a prize
rapping at my chamber door
seeking out the clever bore
lost in dreams forever more
only this and nothing more
Hovering my pulse was racing
stale tobacco my lips tasting
scotch sitting upon my basin
remnants of the night before
came again
infernal tapping on the door
in my mind jabbing
is it in or outside rapping
calling out to me once more
the fit and fury of Lenore
nameless here forever more
And the silken sad uncertain
rustling of the purple curtain
thrilled me, filled me
with fantastic terrors never felt before
so that now, oh wind, stood breathing
hoping yet to calm my breathing
"'Tis some visitor entreating
entrance at my chamber door
some lost visitor entreating
entrance at my chamber door
this it is, and nothing more."
Deep into the darkness peering
long I stood there
wondering fearing
doubting dreaming fantasies
no mortal dared to dream before
but the silence was unbroken
and the stillness gave no token
and the only word there spoken
was the whispered name, "Lenore

Maybe Maybe She Remembers Me Again

i imagined her again
that early evening when she over drank her wine
she was bent at nothing
but simply to relax herself a bit
from a broken heart

she was tipsy, she walked towards that room
dimly lighted, she did not close the door
she undressed herself
walked naked and laid herself
on the carpeted floor
which i could see from where i was seated
trying to compose myself
in my own way of recovering from an old wound

she stood again went back to the door to close it
as i did not follow her
she did not smile
neither did she speak a word
but i understood

the following morning she dressed herself
put on her shoes
whistling her way out of the door then closed it
i went back to the usual pretense
i slept
till ten.

The VIP Visitor

The Queen had visitors that day,
'twas Howard, John, head of Down Under.
She asked him 'would it be okay
if prior to the storm and thunder
which is expected early eve
that you and I, the Royal Queen
take with the carriage our leave,
to make the rounds and thus be seen.
The commoners enjoy the sight.
So they went off,8 shiny horses
she talked and Howard thought he might
bring up the subject of divorces
because he was a nosy man.
The Queen was steering with much skill
when suddenly, near number ten
the leading horse, his name was Will
released a cloud of toxic gas
which, in the company of thunder
had come out of the horse's ass
and scared the Aussie from Down Under.
'Oh, pardon me', the Queen exclaimed
' it is an unexpected force',
says Howard: 'Do not be ashamed,
at first I thought it was the horse.'

Waves Of Fear

Waves of fear, attack in the night
Waves if revulsion, sickening sights
My hearts nearly bursting, my chests choking tight
Waves of fear, waves of fear
Waves of fear, squat on the floor
Looking for some pill, the liquor is gone
Blood trips from my nose, I can barely breathe
Waves of fear, Im too scared to leave
Waves of fear, waves of fear
Waves of fear, waves of fear
Im too afraid to use the phone
Im too afraid to put the light on
Im so afraid Ive lost control
Im suffocating without a word
Crazy with sweat, spittle on my jaw
Whats that funny noise, whats that on the floor
Waves of fear, pulsing with death
I curse my tremors, I jump at my own step
I cringe at my terror, I hate my own smell
I know where I must be, I must be in hell
Waves of fear, waves of fear
Waves of fear, waves of fear
