The Walking Poor
the walking poor,
from the housing projects,
and the trailer parks...
month to month,
till the checks run out...
food stamp cards,
small items stolen and pawned,
trading pills, or meth for
day to day...
the walking poor,
a multi-colored sea,
lapping at the shore of prosperity
like a bastard dog....
salvation army dressed,
often mission fed,
preyed on by the holy
bent on their salvation!
unemployment lines,
struggling for GED's....
going to school just long enough,
to use the grants to survive!
joined by the elderly,
foreclosed, and beaten.
in chairs, on canes....
not enough for their med's,
not enough money to eat...
and now the factory ghosts,
their lives sold out;
their calloused hands idle,
dangerous with anger....
walking the streets,
staring in the windows
still open.....
with bricks in their minds,
small caliber handguns in their thoughts...
the walking poor....
beating a path
...to the capital!

Walking Town
One foot after the other
One place pretty much like another
Some folks got a pretty good deal
Some are just looking for their next meal
Out here where the days go by
And the glances never meet the eye
It's a walking town
And I'm just out here walking 'round
Walking 'round this walking town
You got a house on top of a hill
And a powerful automobile
The windows up, the AC high
In a world of comfort speeding by
Stressed out in the latest style
How long has it been since you walked a mile
In yours or anybody else's shoes
Well, in any life there will be dues
It's a walking town
And I'm just out here walking 'round
Walking 'round this walking town
Walking up, walking down
Walking back, walking 'round
Walking mute, walking bound
Walking through your walking town
One foot on the concrete shore
One foot in the human sea
Night falls on the streets of the city
And it falls over you and me
And all our dreams and our descriptions
Of the life this was supposed to be
Drift above the rooftops and the houses
Until the sunlight finds me where I lay
And it's a walking town
And I'm back out here walking 'round
Walking 'round this walking town

Walking By The Sea
At the end of day
with my bride to be
watching birds at play
walking by the sea
holding her hand squeezing her tight
on the shore of sand, that be
all through the night
down by the sea
happy and carefree
no one in sight under the watchtower light
just her and me
walking by the sea
upon me came a feeling of euphoric kin
I never felt before
just a little after ten
walking on the shore
I think its love you know
thats what I wanted it to be
now we always go
walking by the sea
I always think of that day, long shed
just her and me, as beforesaid
walking by the sea

A Dark illusion
Walking in a dark path
No help reached out to me
Walking in a dark path
Blind and still can't see
Walking in a dark path
Heart beats no longer heard
Walking in a dark path
Not even the sound of a bird
Walking in a dark path
Where am i is this real?
Walking in a dark path
No, it cant be, I've healed.

Streets of Life
Walking down a crowded street
Friends can suddenly appear
Bustling on their happy feet
Telling you that they're so near
Walking down an empty street
Makes you wonder if you're lost
For there is no one to greet
You're like walking in a frost
Walking down the streets of life
On which roadway will you be?
That of glory or of strife?
Or on path where you'd be free?
Walking down the august hall
By the road you know not where
Is there pride as you recall?
How the heck did you get there?

Goodnight Till The Morning Sun
Walking
Walking upon white sands
Imprisoned by thoughts and narrow walls
That holds no comfort within right now
Walking
Walking beneath the sun
Yes warm
But feel embraced by the coldness
As hands touch loneliness
Down on hands and knees I go
To touch the warmth once more
But through clouds of smoke
I search for you
And the sun
Oh hear my voice upon the ocean
Within your dreams
Till the morning sun appears
And as sunshine warm your face
Open your eyes in joy
And know my thoughts are with you
But for now I am walking
Walking upon white sands
Imprisoned by narrow walls
And thoughts
That holds no comfort
But as I walk beneath the sun
Upon white sands within a dream
My heart belongs⦠to you
As I say goodnight
Till the morning sun.

Walking Away
Cold winds blow around me,
And I cant help but think of you.
All the things we wanted,
All the things we had to do.
Wrap yourself around me,
We can steal away sometime.
Your whispers surround me,
But its only in my mind.
cuz Im walking away from,
Walking away from things in my own past.
Walking away from,
Walking away from things that just wont last.
You got what you wanted,
But you cant help but think of me.
All the things you wanted,
All the things you got for free.
One thing to remember
Is that I have feelings, too.
I surely would have closed my eyes
If I had known the real you.
cuz Im walking away from,
Walking away from things in my own past.
Walking away from,
Walking away from things that just wont last.
And Im walking away from,
Walking away from things that move too fast.
cuz Im walking away from,
Walking away from things in my own past.
Walking away from,
Walking away from things that just wont last.
And Im walking away from,
Walking away from things that move too fast.
Walking away from,
Walking away from things in my own past...

Walking
Walking on a cold frosty morn
Gloves and scarf on me adorn.
Walking in the crisp fresh snow
Making my nose all aglow.
Walking up in the hills
Waterproofs on, to keep out the chills.
Walking down in the dales
Up in the sky see all the contrails.
Walking down along the field
Looking at what it has to yield.
Walking in the summer sun
When the day is nearly done.
Walking down the stony lane
Writing keeps me quite sane.
Walking shoes, boots and feet
All traipsing down the street.
Walking along full of emotion
Scribbling with a vague notion.
Walking in the evening shade
Watching daylight start to fade.

Walking Man
Moving in silent desperation
Keeping an eye on the holy land
A hypothetical destination
Say, who is this waliking man?
Well, the leaves have come to turning
And the goose has gone to fly
And bridges are for buning
So dont you let that yearning
Pass you by
Walking man, walking man walks
Well, any other man stops and talks
But the walking man walks
Well the frost is on the pumpkin
And the hay is in the barn
An pappys come to rambling on
Stumbling around drunk
Down on the farm
And the walking man walks
Doesnt know nothing at all
Any other man stops and talks
But the walking man walks on by
Walk on by
Most everybodys got seed to sow
It aint always easy for a weed to grow, oh no
So he dont hoe the row for no one
Oh for sure hes always missing
And something is never quite right
Ah, but who would want to listen to you
Kissing his existence good night
Walking man walk on by my door
Well, any other man stops and talks
But not the walking man
Hes the walking man
Born to walk
Walk on walking man
Well now, would he have wings to fly
Would he be free
Golden wings against the sky
Walking man, walk on by
So long, walking man, so long

Mission In The Rain
I turn and walk away then I come 'round again
It looks as though tomorrow I'll do pretty much the same.
I must turn down your offer but I'd like to ask a break
You know I'm ready to give everything for anything I take.
Someone called my name you know I turned around to see
It was midnight in the Mission and the bells were not for me.
Come again, walking along in the Mission in the rain,
Come again, walking along in the Mission in the rain,
Ten years ago, I walked this street my dreams were riding tall
Tonight I would be thankful Lord, for any dream at all.
Some folks would be happy just to have one dream come true
But everything you gather is just more that you can lose.
Come again, walking along in the Mission in the rain,
Come again, walking along in the Mission in the rain,
All the things I planned to do I only did half way
Tomorrow will be Sunday born of rainy Saturday.
There's some satisfaction in the San Francisco rain
No matter what comes down the Mission always looks the same.
Come again, walking along in the Mission in the rain

Walking With The Kid
Were going out on sunday afternoon
Were gonna show the world what were made of
Me & my buddy will be dressed to kill
Well cruise to the playgroung & the park
Gonna fool aroung til it gets dark
If you think well have some fun well you know we will
All of oursecrets
You know were gonna keep em hid
When we get home theyll wanna know
Everything we did
Walking with the kid
Walking with the kid
Were known around the neighborhood
Yeah we got a real reputation
The bad guys all respect us cause were family
Were not afraid of anything at all
Cause we can handle any situation
If my partner gets in trouble well its up to me
All our friends are envious
Though theyll never let it show
Sure enough later on
Everyones just gotta know
What we were
What we did
Walking with the kid
Walking with the kid
Walking, talking one on one
Walking, walking with my son

Walking Through Fire
When you set a match to your heart
Fueling it with bitterness and doubt
Thats a blaze that once it starts
No amount of tears can put out
I know youre scared
But no ones spared
When you play with matches
Youve got me walking through fire
Youve got me walking through fire
Maybe youve been burned by lovers
Maybe youve been scarred by the pain
But baby Im not like the others
Drawing moths to a flame
Spite is like a spark
Crackling in the dark
Consuming all it catches
And youve got me walking through fire
Youve got me walking through fire to get to you
Youve got me walking through fire
(walking through fire)
Youve got me walking through fire
(walking through fire)
You can see the toll its taking
You can feel the faith its shaking
You can hear the heart its breaking now
Baby Ive burned by the fever
Ive been scorched by desire
But baby Im not your deceiver
Or your eloquent liar
Your jealous heart is tearing us apart
And turning love to ashes
When youve got me walking through fire
Youve got me walking through fire to get to you
Youve got me walking through fire
Youve got me walking through fire
Youve got me walking through fire
(walking through fire)
Youve got me walking through fire
(walking through fire)
As the flames shoot higher
Youve got me walking through fire
(walking through fire)

Walking In My Footsteps
You're walking in my footsteps
From the tracks
That I have left.
You're walking in my footsteps
For now you see
My regrets.
For now you walk
With a limp
From your burdens
Your back is bent.
And you're walking in my footsteps
For now I see
That you're upset
You're walking the road
That I've walked before
The one I swore
I'd walk no more.
And you're walking in my footsteps
For now you see
The tracks I left
You're walking it so fast
Just like a run
Leaving the mud prints
Under the sun
That dries up
and turns to dirt
Which blows away
But stays the hurt.
And you're walking in my footsteps
From your burdens
That I have kept
I see the blood
That I have shed
Mixed with yours
Though it still is red.
And you're walking in my footsteps
For the footsteps now, are the same
With the same depth
From the same tears
From the same old troubles
From the same old fears.
And you're walking in your footsteps
For mine are gone
And yours are here.

Holy Water
(howe/thomas)
In my life, theres been changes
But nothing seems to satisfy me the way you do, no
You make it easy, the way you please me, everytime Im close to you
All this temptation, I cant see wrong from right
Its a new sensation, you know Im blinded by the light
Chorus:
(feels like) Im walking on holy water
Feels like Im walking on sacred ground, baby
(feels like) Im walking on holy water, everytime (that) you come round
You were all I ever wanted, never had a girl in my life til I met you, oh
No
I got a certain feeling, you got my senses reeling
Whenever I get close to you
Youre my salvation, I found you just in time
My one temptation, you know I cant believe youre mine
Chorus:
(feels like) Im walking on holy water
Feels like Im walking on sacred ground, baby
(feels like) Im walking on holy water, everytime (that) you come round
Ooh yeah, its funny how it see,s like yesterday, lovin of the first degree
One word was all I heard you say, ooh baby
Its funny what youve done to me, just wanna see you run to me
(solo)
All this temptation, I cant see wrong from right
Its a new sensation, you know Im blinded by the light
Chorus repeats out...
(feels like) Im walking on holy water
Feels like Im walking on sacred ground, baby
(feels like) Im walking on holy water, everytime (that) you come round

Three Men Walking
Three men walking
Along the roadside
One after another
Wearing weird caps
In the dark
The town asleep
Some traffic
Street lights
And cold
Silhouettes
Trees
Roots whirling
Some visible others hiding
Some past events
The three men
Talking to themselves
And to each other too
Smell of hey
Some old friends
The three men
Still walking
One after another
A young boy
Runs past
All covered up
Without socks
A cat with long tail
And a dog
Waiting for something to eat
Common cause
The boy
Collects rotten fruit
In a bag
Whose cause?
The three men walking
A young girl
Beaten
Cries
Selling flowers
A man with a gun
A watchman
Destroys her flowers
Water
Red colored
And black too
Going down a small stream
Blood is red
And water black
The three men
Further, into the darkness of the streets
Their caps
Water enters the shoes
Cold water
And black water
And then into the restaurant
The three men
With weird caps
Some people in the restaurant
Long faced small faced
Tired and worried
The three men
Looking from above a cabin
Some boys
And burgers
Water and tea
A common cause

Mans Road
Written by jimmy webb, 1982
Found on the last unicorn soundtrack and your move (french import only).
Horizon rising up to meet the purple dawn
Dust demon screaming, bring an eagle to lead me on
For in my heart I carry such a heavy load
Here I am on mans road, walking mans road, walking mans road
Im hungry, weary, but I cannot lay me down
The rain comes, dreary, but theres no shelter I have found
It will be a long time till I find my abode
Here I am on mans road, walking mans road
Moon rising, disguising lonely streets in gay displays
The stars fade, the night shade falls and makes the world afraid
It waits in silence for the sky to explode
Here I am on mans road, walking mans road, walking mans road
Walking mans road, walking mans road, walking mans road

The Fierceness Of Memories...
the fierceness of a a memory is carried by the colored flags of
this island
it should have been a celebration but it is not
the wind is strong in this low season
and the waves are eating too much of the white sands
i can sense your anger, but i am walking away like a man without thoughts
i have accepted all these anger like the way i am walking away from
everything
i sit upon a chair i take a number on that early morning
when chairs are all empty when stores are closed
the money changers have not opened yet
and i wait and i go through these process of surfing without something
definite, there are no questions in my mind
there is only my presence to myself
i am bound, i know, i am helpless
ly still bound to you, and when love comes i close my eyes thinking
about your face and body, and when i burst into a scream
i take the composure of decency by not mentioning even the syllable of your name
it is still respect for love despite its cruelty to me.

We should weep in turn
My only daughter brought forth
a silent babe dead,
from her abortive, quaking womb,
at an early month of seven.
I was wet with sweat and fainted;
but got up soon to see my daughter.
Forgetting the vacant chairs,
saying prayers to all the gods,
I was walking here and there
till the nurses brought her out safe.
Our trust on a specialist
with scans from all the private centres,
failed to help me see the smiles
and hear the mumblings of my grandbabe.
My dreams to have it on my lap
and watch the dance of computer babes
ended with enormous grief.
Early wedding in her teens
has led me to this ordeal,
that my poor father-in-law
would have felt some years back,
walking on the portals of the hospital,
when my wife was crying from morn to late noon
before delivering my first son,
on a Sabbath day which keeps the doctors away.
I was then roaming somewhere,
Being careless with ease in mind.
God makes us all to cry in turns.

Trapped Anger
with your meth lab soul,
and your rusted down
single wide trailer feet,
prodigal, where will you go now?
your mother's tears,
her cigarette burnt quilt...
your daddy's hand tools pawned
for pills and diapers.
pictures piled in a box,
wrapped in American nightmare...
you hold your baby close,
staring at a blank screen.
high school hero, college dropout,
deserter, small time criminal...
you can still smell the sunlight,
cant see past the rain.
the song of America
played on tin roofs, in hollows...
haunted by trapped anger
that has no name!

Deadman Walking
The enemy is at the door
The enemy within.
Dressed up in the strangest clothes,
Smells of drinking Bombay gin.
There's a deadman walking
And his shadow's growing long.
There's a deadman walking
Taking it in
before his time is gone.
My father was a Russian Jew
My Irish mother crazy.
I see summer, winter, fall.
When grown men
cry like babies.
There's a deadman walking
And his shadow's growing long.
There's a deadman walking
Taking it in
before his time is gone.
Solo
Wish I never had to leave.
Wish I'd never known.
Wish I could stay here forever.
Watch my garden grow.
There's a deadman walking
And his shadow's growing long.
There's a deadman walking
Taking it in
before his time is gone.
There's a deadman talking
And his shadow's growing long.
There's a deadman talking
Taking it in
before his time is gone.
There's a deadman walking
deadman walking
deadman talking

5th Avenue
Written by gerry beckley, 1984
Found on perspective.
Walking down 5th avenue
I saw him walking there with you
People see and people talk
Word travels fast round my block
Might just save you the price of writing
I could save you an hour or two
Walking down 5th avenue
Walking down 5th avenue
Dont know what to ask of you
My mind is gettin so confused
Even when I really try
Keeps sounding like Im saying goodbye
Somewhere deep in my heart Im hurtin
cause I keep on remembering you
Walking down 5th avenue
Walking down 5th avenue
Such a long way to go
How many times must I look up and say
What kind of fool am i
But I cant turn my back on the times that we shared
No matter how I try
Walking down 5th avenue
Cant seem to shake the thought of you
Even in the dark of night
Your memories of shining light
Though Im tryin to change direction
I pray what I saw aint true
Walking down 5th avenue
Walking down 5th avenue
Such a long way to go
Do, do, do, do ...
