Souls Of Men And Women
Gold, silver, and precious stones!
Pearls, fine linen and purple;
Silk, scarlet and scented woods!
Ivory, brass and iron;
Precious wood, marble and cinnamon!
Incense, fragrant ointment and frankincense;
Wheat, cattle and sheep! !
Horses, chariots and slaves;
The souls of men and women are here to stay,
But, who the cap fits, must always wear it.

Bible in Poetry: Revelation 18
1Another angel from heaven,
Came down with great authority;
His splendor illumined the earth.
2 With mighty voice he shouted then:
'Fallen is Babylon the Great!
A home for demons, she has turned;
A haunt for evil spirits all,
And unclean, detestable bird.
3 For, nations fully drank in her
Madd’ning wine of adulteries.
Kings committed adultery,
And earth’s merchants grew richer soon,
From her excessive luxuries.'
4 I heard a voice from heaven say:
'Come out of her, my people all,
So that, you will not share her sins,
And you will not receive her plagues;
5 Her sins are piled up to heaven,
And God has remembered her crimes.
6 To give her back as she deserved;
Pay her double for her misdeeds,
Double portion from her own cup.
7Give her as much torture and grief,
As glory, luxury she’d had.
For in her heart she boasted then,
'I sit as queen; I’m not widow,
And I will never mourn at all.'
8 In one day’s time, her plagues therefore
Will overtake her ruthlessly:
Death, mourning famine, all over.
She will be consumed by fire,
For mighty Lord God judges her.
9'When kings of earth who committed
Adultery with her and shared
Her luxury, then see the smoke
Of her burning and destruction,
They’ll weep and mourn over her loss.
10 And terrified by her torment,
They will stand far off and cry aloud:
“O 'Woe! O Woe, to city great!
O Babylon, city of pow’r!
In one hour’s time, your doom has come! '
11'The earth’s merchants will weep and mourn
O’er her because now buys no one
Their cargoes from them any more—
12 Cargoes of gold, silver and pearls;
Precious stones, fine linen and silk,
Scarlet cloth; things of citron wood,
And articles of every kind,
Of ivory and costly wood,
Bronze, iron and costly marble;
13 And cargoes of cinnamon, spice,
Of incense, myrrh and frankincense,
Of wine and olive oil, flour, wheat;
Cattle, sheep; horses, carriages;
And bodies, souls of men, women.
14' They’ll say, 'The fruit you longed for long
Is gone from you in moment’s time;
Your riches, splendor have vanished,
And never will be recovered.'
15 The merchants too who sold these things,
And gained their wealth from her will stand
Far, terrified at her torment.
They’ll weep and mourn 16and cry aloud:
“O Woe! O Woe, O great city,
Dressed in linen, purple, scarlet,
Glittering gold, precious stones and pearls!
17In one hour, great wealth has vanished! '
'Every sea captain, and traveler
By ship and sailors, and all men
Who earn their living from the sea,
Will stand far off, in poverty.
18 And when they see her burning smoke,
They will exclaim, 'Was there ever
A city like this great city? '
19 And they will throw dust on their heads,
And weeping, mourning cry aloud:
“O Woe! O Woe, O great city,
Where all who had ships on the sea,
Became so rich through her great wealth!
In one hour, she is in ruin!
20 Rejoice over her, O heaven!
Rejoice, saints, apostles, prophets!
God judged her for the kind of way,
She treated you, when upon earth.' '
21 A mighty angel picked up then,
A boulder, size of large mill-stone
And threw it into sea, and said:
'With similar a violence,
The great city of Babylon
Will be thrown down, ne’er to be found.
22 Music of harpists, musicians,
And flute players and trumpeters,
Will ne’er be heard in you again.
No workman or any trader
Will e’er be found in you again.
The sound of a grinding mill-stone
Will ne’er be heard in you again.
23 Lamp’s-light will never shine in you.
The voice of bridegroom and of bride
Will ne’er be heard in you again.
Your merchants were world's greatest men.
Your magic spell misled nations.
24 In her was found the blood of saints,
Prophets and all killed upon earth.'

Toi
Give the shields of gold to Toi,
The King of Hamath;
Like the Arameans of Damascus.
But the bride of bondage is like,
The merchandise of cinnamon.
It is all around us,
Of the merchandise of wine;
It is all around you,
Of the merchandise of frankincense;
It is all around me,
Of the merchandise of oil;
But the merchandise of fine flour is like,
The merchandise of wheat.
The merchandise of flowers for my lover,
The merchandise of cattle for my family,
The merchandise of sheep for my neighbour,
The merchandise of horses for my friends,
With the merchandise of chariots and slaves to remember!
Give the shields of gold to Toi,
The king of Hamath;
Like the merchandise of arms and,
The merchandise of luxuries.
Give the shields of gold to Toi,
The King of Hamath;
For weeping and wailing will be heard very soon.

This Light
Hear my words oh you men,
Listen to me oh you that have knowledge;
Because i am the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook;
But naked i came out from my mother's womb.
I am like the boundary between the light and the darkness,
And like precious crystal and the precious onyx;
But the price of wisdom is above rubies!
I am like the precious sapphire and the precious coal,
And my mind is like the path for the lightning bolt;
But my steps are bathed with the cream of love,
And like the precious pearls in the land of your muse.
Listen to me when i speak,
For my council is like Mount Everest far up high! !
And i am the eyes to the blind in the land of joy.
The old men rose and the old women gathered around,
And like a smelter for silver;
But i am the feet to the lame.
Listen to me oh you that have ears,
For a place of gold is now refined like my name;
But upon many will this light shine unto;
For my love is sweeter than the red apples in your hands.

Decked With Gold
The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colours,
Decked with gold, pearls and precious stones!
But she was worried about the things to come.
Like she who sits on the seven mountains in Rome,
She is desolate and naked after war!
And her desire is with many to make a difference.
Of the wine of her fornications,
Of the beer of her adulteries,
It was very pleasant to the eyes and desirable as food;
But like the work and the care of her lover,
She is always decked with gold.
Of the peace that eludes her,
At the same time of war with mankind;
But when she is dead and gone,
Others will still hope and dream of her.

Dirty Dancing
Videotaping,
Sexual escapades,
Fornication,
Dirty dancing,
Emerging from dark bedrooms!
And like the wine of her fornication,
But i saw the woman sitting on scarlet coloured beast full of names of blasphemy.
She has seven heads and ten horns,
With sodomites in the land and of male prostitutes as well;
But the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colours!
Also decked with gold, pearls and precious stones;
And having a cup in her hand full of abomination! !
But the filthiness of her fornication was enjoyed by many who were dancing around her.

Bazar
Man of the world, I pass
the carosals of gold and silver chain
glittering stones for crushing
earrings and finger rings
bracelets and wristlets
cartons of stuff, satins and silks
purple-violet carpets, hand-loomed
rolled and stacked
chattering budgies and milk-white turtles
shreiking peafowl, squealing piglets
dates, figs, currants, prunes,
heaps of spices, saffron and paprika
jars of incense and frankincense,
pistachios, pecans and almonds.

Experience Pearls
Give me all your tears
Let me turn them into pearls
Let me turn all the tears
That youve cried into pearls
Hand them to me - Im gonna keep,
Keep them for you.
I want to hold you,
I want to kiss you.
I want to mend what is broken.
Love me the way that you loved her - please
Cause now Im giving it all -
And so Ive made up my mind - Im gonna be
Yours this time - Im gonna give what Ive got,
And get your love in return.
And so Ive made up my mind - Im gonna be
Yours this time - Im gonna teach you to trust
And learn how to burn -
Experience pearls
Pearls of experience
When sand strikes up in your eyes
I will cover your face.
Ill plant your desert with roses,
And Im gonna keep, keep them for you.
And so Ive made up my mind...
Ill wear your pearls more precious than silver
Ill wear your pearls so close to my skin.
Id tear myself apart just to get you -
And so Ive made up my mind...
And so Ive made up my mind...

A Mid-Day Dreamer
I love to sit alone, and dream,
And dream, and dream;
In fancy's boat to softly glide
Along some stream
Where fairy palaces of gold
And crystal bright
Stand all along the glistening shore:
A wondrous sight.
My craft is built of ivory,
With silver oars,
The sails are spun of golden threads,
And priceless stores
Of precious gems adorn its prow,
And 'round its mast
An hundred silken cords are set
To hold it fast.
My galley-slaves are sprightly elves
Who, as they row,
And as their shining oars they swing
Them to and fro,
Keep time to music wafted on
The scented air,
Made by the mermaids as they comb
Their golden hair.
And I the while lie idly back,
And dream, and dream,
And let them row me where they will
Adown the stream.

A Young Man Marries A Virgin
The bridegroom rejoices with the bride as,
A young man marries a virgin;
And you will be married to me becaue of the delight of your love.
Instead of bronze, i will bring you gold for your love;
Instead of iron, i will bring you silver for your love;
Instead of ordinary stones, i will bring you precious stones for your love;
Ans as a young man marries a virgin,
Because the truth is all noted very well in the village of love and peace!

Death Of The Trees
My town is a place where
The rich tourists come,
With mountains and rivers
That glint in the sun!
Luxuriant beaches
Of ivory sand,
But all the jade forests
Now no longer stand!
There once were lush jungles
That grew dense and tall,
But woodcutters came when
The town was still small...
They hacked all the trees down
And shipped them away,
In huge merchant vessels
That sailed to the bay!
They went back to Europe
With precious hard woods,
Sold it as furniture
And other fine goods...
I wish I could travel
In time to the day
Before people cleared all
The forests away!
I wish I had seen them
Before settlers came,
The mountains and rivers
May still be the same...
Iron, Yellow, Black Wood
And most of all trees,
Don't sway any more in
The fresh coastal breeze...

Souls Attracting
To most
Diamonds are precious
To me
You are precious as the stars above
A gift heaven sent
To grace my existence on earth
Even though we may never meet
I know our souls have met before
And that we will meet in the year after
As our friendship decreed
Our souls attracting
Familiar beings
You are the precious star
Winking at me
Before I go to bed

Current Currency
Dollars, euros, yen:
they’re all just pretty pieces of rags,
cotton, linen, and silk,
a bit of Crane paper, so we’re told.
Those currencies that no longer
predicate their value on precious metals,
gold or silver, for example,
have no more intrinsic worth than
fancy rags made of shirt fabrics.
Paper money is then much like
a wedding song “O, Promise Me”
performed over and over and over
until becoming superfluous.
Then the wedding guests long
for something more enduring
like Bach, Chopin, or Mendelssohn
(gold, silver, or real estate)
with no promises attached.
Then the mints are inked-up
the engraving plates polished to a sparkle,
and the fat lady is ready to sing her swan song,
“All of Me.”
At least if the current currency
breaks its promise and leaves me destitute,
with no purchasing power at all,
I can gather up all those little rectangles
and make a quilt or a pair of trousers,
if I can learn to sew.

Silver And Gold
Silver, silver and gold
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Ev'ryone wishes for silver and gold
How do you measure its worth?
Just by the pleasure it gives here on earth.
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Mean so much more when I see
Silver and gold decorations
On ev'ry Christmas tree.
Silver, silver and gold
Silver, silver and gold
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Wise men brought gifts to the mange I'm told
Mary was humble to see
Shepherds and kings there on bended knees
It's silver and gold, silver and gold
Feeling the world with their lives
Silver and gold how they shimmer on ev'ry Christmas night
On ev'ry Christmas night
Silver, silver and gold

Tartary
If I were Lord of Tartary,
Myself, and me alone,
My bed should be of ivory,
Of beaten gold my throne;
And in my court should peacocks flaunt,
And in my forests tigers haunt,
And in my pools great fishes slant
Their fins athwart the sun.
If I were Lord of Tartary,
Trumpeters every day
To all my meals should summon me,
And in my courtyards bray;
And in the evening lamps should shine,
Yellow as honey, red as wine,
While harp, and flute, and mandoline
Made music sweet and gay.
If I were Lord of Tartary,
I'd wear a robe of beads,
White, and gold, and green they'd be --
And small and thick as seeds;
And ere should wane the morning star,
I'd don my robe and scimitar.
And zebras seven should draw my car
Through Tartary's dark gleades.
Lord of the fruits of Tartary.
Her rivers silver-pale!
Lord of the hills of Tartary.
Glen, thicket, wood, and dale!
Her flashing stars, her scented breeze,
Her trembling lakes, like foamless seas,
Her bird-delighting citron-trees,
In every purple vale!

Precious
(orbison)
You are not just another sweet human
Youre precious, precious to me
You are not just my love for the moment
Youre precious, precious to me
Are you some kind of angel
Who lost your way to a star?
Wonder why, why me?
Dont you even see how wonderful you are?
You are not just someone I can talk with
Youre precious, precious to me
You are not just someone I can talk with
Youre precious, precious to me

Precious
The jewels
That sparkle in your eyes
Are pools
To bathe in.
Aqua skies
Above
Are swathed in
Cotton candy dreams.
As sunlit diamonds
Adorn with love
The flowing gown of silver streams.
The stars
That hang like spectral pearls.
Are bells that rang
In other worlds.
Attending heavens' glittering ball
To wear the night
Like ermine shawl.
When sprites have danced
To mystic tune
With lights enhanced
By crescent moon.
The Aria
Of passionate seas
Where rainbows fade
To symphonies.
And precious gold lights morning sky.
As colours bold
Do swirl on high.
That precious scene
The sunset steals.
To bleed blood red
Alone to die.
Each miracle the day reveals
To beauty queen
Of moonlit sigh.

Epiphany: (For Dora, 1918)
She carried frankincense and gold
When the Star guided her,
And in her folded hands so cold
She carried myrrh.
Frankincense for the praise she owed,
Gold for her gift was meet,
But myrrh because so oft her road
Was bitter-sweet.
Lay her tired body in that earth
Was holy to her mind!
But the bird-soul flies in high mirth,
Borne on the wind.
It tosses in the Irish skies
Awhile, so small and white,
Ere it is gone -- swiftly it flies
Into the light.
She has gone in with the Three Kings,
In silk and miniver;
The gold, the frankincense she brings,
The sharp-sweet myrrh.
