Everyone who makes films has to be an athlete to a certain degree because cinema does not come from abstract academic thinking; it comes from your knees and thighs.

I Want To Live On An Abstract Plain
Ive had it with this town
I never saw those shifting skies
I never saw the ground
Or the sunset rise
I want to live on an abstract plane
Im building a frame
A place to put my ten-yard stare
Thinking of that paint
Painted in plein-air
I want to live on an abstract plane
I need a new adress
I want some new terrain
Is it north or south?
I want to live on an abstract plain
I could sit on the roof
On top of that abstract house
See my abstract view
An abstract mouse
I want to live on an abstract plane
I need a new adress
Tell me Im not insane
Is it up or down?
I want to live on an abstract plane

These Knees
oh if i had the knees of a athlete
I'll tell you what i would do.
i would jump around all day
till everyone did it too!
If my knees worked
i would run and run
people would think I'm crazy
but i would have Fun!
Soccer my favorite sport.
i would kick the ball
and chase it too!
I wouldnt feel it at all!
but with these Knees
i can not do the things that i desire
running jumping playing are off limits
oh how i wish i could not tire.
but with these knees
i can still walk
so if i can't be thankful
i should not talk.

Down On Your Knees
Alright, ooh yeah
Are you ready to rock, Im talking about satisfaction
So lets cut the talk, yeah, and get on with the action
Better make up your mind, girl, cause its now or never
Its getting down to the night, yeah, and I aint waiting forever
Shes alright, cause shes all I got tonight
Shes alright, and shes eager to please
Down on your knees, this is love in the first degree
Down on your knees, and tonight the lovins on me
Are you ready to rock, babe, she saw me coming for miles
So let me see what you got
cause darling, youll be driving me wild
Better make up your mind, girl, cause its now or never
Its getting down to the night, girl, and I aint waiting forever
I aint waiting, girl
Shes alright, cause shes all I got tonight
Shes alright, and shes eager to please
Down on your knees, this is love in the first degree
Down on your knees, and tonight the lovins on me
Get down
Now that you got me real worked up
What you gonna do with me
Now that you got me really hot
Im easy to please
Down on your knees, its this love in the first degree
Down on your knees, yeah tonight the lovins on me
Down on your knees, this is love in the first degree
Down on your knees, yeah tonight the lovins on me
Im down on my knees, this is love in the first degree
Im down on my knees, yeah tonight the lovins on me
Down on my knees, this is love in the first degree
Down on my knees

Some Camels Have Two Humps and Others One
Why do some camels have two humps,
And others one?
'That's a good question!
Hmmm...
To get to the other side perhaps? '
The other side of what?
'The other side of where they've been.
To get from point A to B.'
That makes no sense!
'And a camel with one hump,
Makes this journey more cost effective? '
Well,
That depends.
'On what? '
The number of mirages supporting an Oasis,
One uncovers.
'You have a degree from Harvard.
Don't you? '
Yes!
How did you know that?
'Your reasoning...
Though absolutely pointless,
Has much flair.
It fascinates.'
That's quite nice of you to say.
I think you are wise as well.
'Trust me...
Wisdom has nothing to do with it! '
Doesn't that hump business depend,
On whether the camel is Asian or African?
'You've got the degree.
Not me! '
Obtaining a knowledge that is common.
Or pertaining to one's comprehension and sensibility...
Has very little to do with academic learning.
'No...way!
You're kidding? '

I don't know why people question the academic training of an athlete. Fifty percent of the doctors in this country graduated in the bottom half of their classes.

As soon as I get my car I think I'll be going to the cinema more. Since I don't go very often, there are no films that are a must see at the moment. I usually wait till they come out on DVD.

With Fay on a Bus.
The bus moved away
from the bus stop
and Fay sat next to you
her body rocking
side to side
with the motion
of the bus
her knees pushing
against each other
her hands in a prayer like pose
upon her knees
Are you going
to the cinema?
she asked
Yes
you replied
The Globe
That old fleapit?
she said smiling
her lips parting
showing
small white teeth
What are you going to see?
A cowboy film I think
you said
Why don't you come too?
I can't
I haven't any money
she said
Besides my dad
wouldn't like it
he thinks films
are the Devil's work
she looked out
at the passing view
you studied her thumbs
rubbing over each other
her nails pink
and polished
like small shells
He needn't know
you said
I wouldn't tell
she turned her head
and said
I would know
and he would know
by the look
in my eyes
he knows I always
tell the truth
and never tell lies
you put a hand over hers
and her thumbs
became still
and her hand
touched yours
Maybe one day
she said
I will.

For example, in painting the form arises from abstract elements of line and color, while in cinema the material concreteness of the image within the frame presents - as an element - the greatest difficulty in manipulation.

I kind of worry about that a little bit - we lost our film culture for 30 years because the Americans came in and bought up all the cinema chains and wouldn't show any Australian films.

Some of these things I saw in foreign films - African films, Cuban films - long before I decided to really go on this course as an actor. I started to think about what values I saw in those films that I wanted to bring to my projects.

There were a lot of people dreaming about making films, and they would finance maybe 6 films a year. Because they were funded by the government, the films sort-of had to deal with serious social issues - and, as a result, nobody went to see those films.

Ability of men and women
Woman is expert in concrete thinking
And man, in abstract thinking.
She does with perfection and he, with
heaviness.
Her hands are nimble and his, massive.
That is why they form a perfect match.

Over The Years
It started in a small way
an abstract message or two
never thinking where it was leading
or how close I would become to you.
We were just two souls
looking out for a friend
never thinking that friendship
would eventually transpire.
The messages became less abstract
hearts poured out words to one another.
Invisible threads were weaved
into something to full fill.
Over the years we’ve become closer
bonds were firmly cemented
your family became mine
and mine became yours.
As we met, we both knew
a stronger chain had been forged.
Now we remain friends together
in everything we’ll share.
As over the years, we’ve become closer
and nothing can tear us apart
except the distance where we live.
That is just a minute distance
with a telephone call
and it will be but a short time
until we meet again next fall.
