Rebel Music (feat. Krazie Bone)
[Aston Barrett; Hugh Peart]
(Do do do do-do do do!
Do do do do-do do do!
I rebel music;
I rebel music.)
Why can't we roam (oh-oh-oh-oh) this open country? (open country)
Oh, why can't we be what we wanna be? (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
We want to be free. (wanna be free)
3 o'clock roadblock - curfew,
And I've got to throw away -
Yes, I've got to throw away -
A yes-a, but I've got to throw away
My little herb stalk!
I (rebel music) - yeah, I'm tellin' you! -
(I) I rebel music (rebel music). Oh-ooh!
Take my soul (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
and suss - and suss me out (suss me out). Oh-ooh!
Check my life (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh),
if I am in doubt (I'm in doubt); I'm tellin':
3 o'clock roadblock - roadblock - roadblock,
And "Hey, Mr. Cop! Ain't got no - (hey) hey! (hey, Mr Cop) -
(What ya sayin' down there?) - (hey) hey! (hey, Mr Cop) -
Ain't got no birth certificate on me now."

And Drove Straight On
The sign on the roadside said,
detour here to find love.
Beside it was an advertisement
for the latest Frankenstein film.
The romantic mood of Dr Frank
just around the corner.
I ignored the detour
and drove straight on.

Detour
Sometimes we take a detour
off the well trodden path,
it leads us to a place
that we never wanted to go,
but when we get there,
the place isn’t as bad,
as we expected it to be,
and of the detour we think
we should have taken it before.

If Love Is Strong
We always take a detour
when there is a rocky road ahead,
but with love you never know
when it is right to take a detour.
You have to wade through
every coming storm,
hoping everything will turn out right.
If love is strong,
the storm will be a small squall,
with calmer waters
on the other side.
While you are in it
be prepared for a rough ride
until the storm recedes,
and peace is restored once more.

Snowball In Hell
Avalanche or roadblock
I was a snowball in hell
Avalanche or roadblock
A jailer trapped in his cell
Moneys all broke, and foods going hungry
If it wasnt for disappointment
I wouldnt have any appointments
Side effect or drug trip
Dont tease me with all of your might
Side effect or drug trip
My panaceas in a xerox shop
Have a nice day, you want it when?
Have a nice day, have a nice day
I didnt expect to find a salesman drinking coffee this late in the morning. how long you been here, joe?
Oh, I dont know, I guess thirty, forty-five minutes maybe. why do you ask?
You must be making a lot of sales, piling up good income.
Oh... uh... Im doing all right. I could do better, but... ohahaha I get it paul. back on that old time is money kick, right?
Not back on it, joe, still on it.
Avalanche or roadblock
I was a snowball in hell
Avalanche or roadblock
A jailer trapped in his cell
Money I owe, money-iy-ay
Money I owe, money-iy-ay
Avalanche or roadblock
I was a snowball in hell
Notes
The frank otoole demo version adds more of the spoken dialogue ad nauseum as follows:
Okay, okay
Okay, okay, okay lets
Okay, okay
Okay, okay, okay lets
Okay, okay
Okay, okay, okay lets
Avalanche or roadblock
I was a snowball in hell
Avalanche or roadblock
A jailer trapped in his cell
Moneys all broke, and foods going hungry
If it wasnt for disappointment
I wouldnt have any appointments
Did I affect your drug trip
Dont tease me with all of your might
Did I affect your drug trip
You threw my wallet in the wishing well
Have a nice day, you want it when?
Have a nice day, have a nice day
I didnt expect to find a salesman drinking coffee this late in the morning. how long you been here, joe?
Oh, I dont know, I guess thirty, forty-five minutes maybe. why do you ask?

Rain Showers
It’s funny how
Two hearts in love
Aren’t bothered by much
Not only a little rain
Will ever detour them
Continuously walking
As the little drops fall
Soaked but that don’t stop
Running in puddles, splashing
Not giving a care in the world
After a too short while
The rain stalls and ends
As if they just swam
They walk to an open area
And begin to slowly dance
As they hold the clouds fade
A warm sun ray
Shines down on them
Drying out the wet earth
And warming their hearts
It’s just so funny how
Two hearts in so much love
Aren’t even bothered by the rain
Not much could detour them
So concentrated on one another

What It Is
Learning is making mistakes.
Even in detour, there will be something unique for you to find out.

A police road block
We went to the boy’s rugby match
it was at a school in Centurion
just south of Pretoria
and he was playing really well
got provincial colours
and went to the Craven week.
We parked up on a knoll
and you wanted to stroll down it,
to where the rugby field was
and I insisted that we follow
the road round,
but you cursed me
right there between the other parents
and was determined to have your way.
You didn’t want to hear anything
and your first step
going down that hillock
was the last that you took there,
since you stumbled and broke your leg
while I grabbed you to steady you.
I carried you down that little hill
and you were in great pain
and had your arms
around my neck
and at that moment
I knew that you loved me.
I went to fetch the car
and brought it round the knoll,
put you on the back seat
of your old green Honda ballade
with a lot of care and trouble
to get you in
without hurting you
and took you straight
to Unitas hospital
that was near.
I phoned the medical aid five times
while you were being admitted
to get a confirmation from them
to stop the hospital
from claiming a deposit
and when you were settled
I went home
to fetch some clothing
and toiletries.
I drove back with my own white Polo
and just at the hospital
was stopped by the South African Police
at a roadblock.
They made me get out of the car,
patted me down like a criminal,
wanted to see my drivers license,
was determined to search the car
and went through your
underclothes and things
and asked me what I am doing
with a suitcase of woman’s clothes
in the boot?
They were very rude
and I explained that I was taking it
to you in hospital
and was determined
to see their authority
to search my car.
They had the right order there
signed by a judge
for a roadblock and a search
of any car
on that stretch of road
but the police officer to whom
it gave authority
wasn’t there
and I demanded to see him
and they wrote my name
and identity number in a book
while I told them
that they were acting illegally
before they let me go.
You were glad to see me
and browsed through the magazines
that I brought
and I visited as long as I could
and asked the sister in the office
to take special care of you,
but when I left
the police and their roadblock
was no longer there.

My Cheeks Do Not Turn
Returning back what I get,
Seems to offend the ones...
Who possess selective memories kept,
In their archives of thoughtless actions.
To conveniently forget as is often done,
By those who have a knack...
To excuse everything they do,
On the dysfunctions of their childhood.
And this 'defect' is fed to THEIR children,
To accept as a custom as a family heirloom given.
You do me...
You will get done!
That's it!
I apologize for the detour.
But that's how it is.
And always there is a parent to blame,
Who either smothered them with strictness...
Or did not supply them with enough love.
However,
My empathy given does not extend to include...
Forgiveness to anyone wishing to use me,
To later express a pathetic childhood lived.
I don't carry around a box of tissue.
Detour number two...
I am into Brahms and Beethoven.
And a little Mozart.
But sobbing tears with strings,
To crescendo gradually in the background...
As one attempts to defend what they've done?
No!
I am not a part of that audience.
Especially when one has aged with maturity OR not,
To be held accountable for those misdeeds...
Consciously done to others to do to forget.
You do me...
You will get done!
That's it!
My cheeks do not turn.
But I am told I walk with a switch,
By those who mistake my proudness for something else.
And I don't spend time looking at myself from behind.
Even if I could do it I wouldn't.
My footsteps and eyes are focused forward.
Obviously some have their eyes fixed elsewhere.

To the west «hasten slowly»
Detour of east roads …
Is better reflect spontaneously,
Than to hoot at irony Gate …
