If Love Is Strong

We always take a detour
when there is a rocky road ahead,
but with love you never know
when it is right to take a detour.
You have to wade through
every coming storm,
hoping everything will turn out right.

If love is strong,
the storm will be a small squall,
with calmer waters
on the other side.
While you are in it
be prepared for a rough ride
until the storm recedes,
and peace is restored once more.

And Drove Straight On

The sign on the roadside said,
detour here to find love.
Beside it was an advertisement
for the latest Frankenstein film.
The romantic mood of Dr Frank
just around the corner.
I ignored the detour
and drove straight on.

Right Roads

Sometimes we have to detour
to get back on the right road.
We stop at different places
and get a little lost at times.
Something or someone
then comes along to guide us
back to the road where we belong.
Life has this way with us
when we’ve turned our dreams away.
It steers us to something or someone
to guide us along the way.
Once back on the right road
we find ourselves again
and travel down it happily
with a new purpose we’ve acquired.
As we go along that road
we inspire others to do the same
so they can find their dreams
and hold their personal fame.

Detour

Sometimes we take a detour
off the well trodden path,
it leads us to a place
that we never wanted to go,
but when we get there,
the place isn’t as bad,
as we expected it to be,
and of the detour we think
we should have taken it before.

Direct To The Point

when the sun lights the grass
there is no detour
it likes it done directly like a
candid shot of
margarita

i like it that way too
straight to my
mouth sliding smoothly into my
throat

there are no rocks that block
my river
no 'on the other hand' or 'what ifs'
that grow in my path

i like it when you tell me
straight from the heart
i like this pain that stabs me right
my eyes not blinking

Detour

Where would they have gone
If they had not driven off that day
Down the Redwood Highway

As far as where, until that morning,
The two southbound lanes
Had been supported by a bridge?

There were no 'DETOUR AHEAD' signs
Except for the slight shaking and
The rhythmic rocking of their car.

'What's that? she asked.
'I think we're getting a flat, '
Was his response until

He realized his headlights
Had stopped seeing
The reflectors and road lines.

Then they both saw
The other side
With only darkness in between.

At 60 mph there seemed nothinig
Between where they were and
Where the road begain again.

Instantly, she was attempting
To get in the back seat
To protect their children.

He was slamming both feet on the pedals,
Gripping the wheel, fighting for control
Of their VW Bug that was already airborne.

Through his windshield
He saw
What an earthquake can do

To a highway engineer's assumptions of
Friction coefficients and
The constant force of gravity.

Page ones across the world
Sunday morning had pictures
Of where they had landed;

Upside down
Thirty feet below
Where the bridge deck had been.

Front driiver's side
Mag wheel
Ripped off.

Re-bar slices
Can-opener like tears
On a grey car door.

The papers tell of little more
About him, his wife
And their three children:

'Twin boys age nine
And a girl
Age four.'

Except that
'They were packed
For a three-day holiday.

Now instead taken
To two local hospitals.
Expected to recover

From various injuries sustained...'
What did that reporter know?
He wasn't there.

If not for this detour,
Where would
The road of life taken them?

Because of it,
Where are they now?
Such is life.

Block It Out

All the hurt inside me
I just block it out
All those tears i need to cry
I just block them out

All those memories of past years
That would still make me cry
I never said goodbye
I'm scared that if i let them out
They'll never stop

I've got a reputation of being happy
Always on top
I can't let them down
Let them see me frown

I just block it out
I just block it out

Frosty Loneliness

i followed
frost too
to that
road less
travelled
to be surprised
by smug
aloneliness
so abundant

i took a detour
alone to
that road
under the coppice
to find myself
lost in arctic
loneliness
so alone
and cold
i could only
agree with frost
our only saviour
is our faith
that God is
beside us
at all times

loneliness is
the sacred patch
where God asks
us to remove
our wordly affairs
to be near him

the way he asked
Moses to remove
his sandals
on his sacred patch
to be near Him

Only Those With The Key

The gate has been locked,
To block access...
To those once accustomed,
To free entry and free reign.

And this has been suggested...
Maybe one's own finding,
Of a home on the range...
Suitable for the deer and the antelope,
To play.
And any mumbling heard is one's own

The gate has been locked,
To block out the physical.
And that which appears limited.

But one 'spirited' in mind,
Can choose to look over the gate.
Or through its cracks.
Or...
Sit to wonder why THIS gate attracts.

And gates with locks that block,
To stop what's coming in...
Seem to imprison those behind them,
Rarely to come out to test the locks.

And only those with the key,
Know what it is used for.
AND...
Its history to be known or not!
Since whoever has got the key,
Needs not to peek or have interest in the doing.
Only those with the key to the gate that locks,
To block in or not to block out...
Do not concern themselves with peeking.

Writers Block

The worst thing any writer can experience
is the most dreaded writers block.
Sitting in front of a blank sheet of paper
waiting and waiting for the words to come.
It is the curse of all writers
whether they are good or bad.
The frustration of trying to unblock their mind.
We try it with reading others words or soothing music
hoping to stimulate the little grey cells into working.
However it is never as easy as it sounds
as a writers block can sometimes last for years,
I know that from experience as
I have been down that road before.
Then the inexplicable happens and you pick up a pen
and that blank page is not blank anymore,
it is filled with words galore.
The torture is over and a new start begins.
You give a big sigh of relief as your writing begins again,
but being always weary in case that block comes back again.

Rain Showers

It’s funny how
Two hearts in love
Aren’t bothered by much
Not only a little rain
Will ever detour them

Continuously walking
As the little drops fall
Soaked but that don’t stop
Running in puddles, splashing
Not giving a care in the world

After a too short while
The rain stalls and ends
As if they just swam
They walk to an open area
And begin to slowly dance

As they hold the clouds fade
A warm sun ray
Shines down on them
Drying out the wet earth
And warming their hearts

It’s just so funny how
Two hearts in so much love
Aren’t even bothered by the rain
Not much could detour them
So concentrated on one another

Endless Highway

J. r. robertson
Take a silver dollar and put it in your pocket,
Never let it slip away.
Always be a man, not a boy gone astray.
When ya get half cra-zy from the august heat
Or on a frozen, rotted road
With no one to complain to about your achin feet.
Chorus:
Youre gonna walk that endless highway,
Walk that high-way till you die.
All you children goin my way,
Better tell your home-life sweet goodbye.
When I see a detour up ahead,
Well, I leave it far behind,
Who knows what youre apt to find there.
With the cost of livin, and the price of dyin,
Well it look like tme this time I wont be buyin
Chorus
When they get a scapegoat by the throat,
Its hard labour and cold beans.
If ya get away real quick,
Youll be eatin from the poison peanut machine.
Well, I sing by night, wander by day.
Im on the road and it looks like Im here to stay.
Chorus

Traffic Jam

Traffic has stopped and came to a halt
Vehicles seem to be floating as on basalt
The bass of a car stereo is loudly invading
On road trips the laughter is slowly fading

Demanding passage fire trucks are blaring
Drivers move out of the way grimly staring
Thinking about previous incidences speeding
Taking chances all of a sudden seems misleading

Vivid images of accidents and lots of blood
Disturbs the minds of the waiting like a flood
Thinking about responsibilities and loved ones
Officers on motorcycles passing by with guns

Clouds of smoke ahead make people unsure
To arrive at the destination without a detour
Imagination takes its course in intermission
Giving up people finally turn off their ignition

Cars' starting to move again as the road clears
But rubber necks induce a new jam it appears
Car horns are beeping with impatience ahead
Road rage is at its best again and widespread

Oranges Testimonial

Mr. John Flansburgh: "Hey, this is John of They Might Be Giants. You might know me better as one of the guys from They Might Be Giants. You know, chemistry is like a relationship and that's why when you're looking for web design, go to the best: The Chopping Block. You might not know it, but over 50% of web designers are sleepy and cranky. The Chopping Block, through farm living and an active internship recruiting policy have over 10 million employees ready to serve your corporate whatever they call it. Orange powered and web-fueled, The Chopping Block... e-solutions to e-verybody."
Oranges
Oranges
Oranges and graphic design
The Chopping Block spends their time
Growing oranges, picking oranges
Then working on graphic design
The Chopping Block works all the time
All the time

Can We Shake Ourselves Awake

Can we shake ourselves awake,
From an aborted ride into darkness
Derailed?
Can we take back the hope to love,
And detour this scene to find happiness waiting?
Will agitated aggressiveness become offended
To find clearing eyes on the road...
And not on drugged realities sold as we slept!

Can we shake ourselves awake...
And turnaround to mend shattered daydreams,
Left unnourished and discouraged to fulfill?
Dropping them as excessive weight,
We believed our journey could not take...
But now needs!

If we can shake ourselves awake,
And break free of the mistaken purpose to control.
Focusing on the road we have taken to make peace.
The peace we nearly overslept
To let someone we felt we knew take the wheel.
Awakening to find they had become misguided!
Hopefully this does not delay our arrival.

If we can shake ourselves awake...
We just might make it there on time,
To celebrate!
