I started taking singing classes just two years ago. It was great. I never knew I could sing but I kind of found my voice.

I started singing about three years ago, I entered a local singing competition called Stratford Idol. The other people in the competition had been taking singing lessons and had vocal coaches. I wasn't taking it too seriously at the time, I would just sing around the house. I was only 12 and I got second place.

I Wouldnt Normally Do This Kind Of Thing
Ask me why
Ill say its most unusual
How can I even try to explain
Why today, I feel like dancing
Singing like lovers sing
When I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
Ask me when
Ill say it started when I met you
And ever since then
I knew that the past wouldnt last
For right now I think Im running
A race I know Im gonna win
And I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
If people say Im crazy
I tell 'em that it's true
I let them watch with amazement
Say it wont last beyond breakfast
Its just a phase hes going through
Denigrate or speculate
On what Im going through
Because it isnt the sort of thing Id normally do
Ask me what
Ill say I think its good for you
Believe it or not
I know where its all leading to
I feel like taking all my clothes off
And dancing to the rite of spring
And I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of thing
I wouldnt normally do this kind of
This kind of thing

My mother had been a country and western singer but when she moved out to Hollywood found it very difficult to get work so when I was born they put me into dance classes and singing classes as soon as I could walk actually.

Of Life And Of Nature
I knew just as much about them fifty years ago
Of Life and of Nature as now I do know
Though from our dealings with people we learn every day
We learn as we live as some are known to say
But Nature of course is a different thing
And though the praises of Nature the Poets may sing
And though from living near Nature insights from her we do gain
Her secrets from us as great mysteries remain.
Even since the invention of the first motor car
Human kind in technology have gone so far
But the greatest are mere mortals just like you and I
And great minds are born and great minds must die.
The achievements of human kind doubtless are great
But Nature out of nothing something can create
And about Nature and Life today fifty years ago as much I knew
But each day from living we learn something new.

Mama, sing for Me
Mama, sing for me...
Mama, sing for me
Your voice, is the melody to my ear
Your voice, is like the singing birds
When I feel down
Your voice, rise me up
Mama, sing for me
When life doesn't turns out to be right.
Mama, sing for me
One last time.
Your voice, put me to sleep
Your voice is
My soul
My life,
My spirits
When I hear you sing
There's no need to be fear
There's no need to be worried
I'm alive because of your voice
So, sing for me
Sing for me one last time.
Mama, sing for me
Let me hear your voice one last time
You can't go now mama
You were the path of my life
Come back to me
You can't go forever
Mama, sings for me one last time
That's all that i want
Mama, sing for me...

My father being in the movie business, I thought being an actor would be great. But when I started singing to people in coffeehouses, you know, singing folk music and then, later, singing songs that I started to write myself, I felt more than an affinity for it.

When I started writing a business column 15 years ago, I knew I'd found the perfect job for myself. As a columnist I could pick my own topic, do my own analysis, say what I wanted to say and attribute it to myself. Best of all, I could write in my own voice.

The Wish To Age
Why did I always wish to age?
As a child I strived for the adult stage.
But having reached it I now know
that I was foolish to want to grow.
For it's not that great now that it's here.
I wish I could make the years disappear.
Oh how I played and romped about.
Kids don't worry about challenge and doubt.
My mother would say, 'supper's on.'
Before she knew it I was gone.
Ate so fast. Had things to do.
Another one died but it wasn't you.
So removed from finality,
thinking only about being free.
Watched the grown-ups bill and coo,
something I though I'd never do.
Found the piano or it found me.
Ingested the tones, the harmony.
Started to mature. Started to age.
Left youth behind in a gilded cage.

I started singing for The Phantom in January, and we started filming in October and I sang all the way through to the next June. In fact, I was singing for about two months before I even knew I had the role.

Beautiful voice you have
A beautiful voice
a peaceful sound
we hear in the passage
voice given by God
a talent to you
We hear you singing
beautiful praises
to God our Father
a heavenly voice
you have indeed
As you, continue to sing
I start to wonder
How great is God?
how great is He?
I can hear the passion
you have for God
in your voice
a passion with such
love and dedication
Then I realize
that God is awesome
yes, He is great
He is wonderful
the only God
worthy of such praises
the only God that is alive
Amen

Singing was my first love and I never even considered it after I started acting, but now I'm bringing it back into my life. I trained from the ages of 11 to 17. When I moved to New York and got into serious acting, I just kind of abandoned the whole singing thing. But when I grew up in Pennsylvania I went to voice lessons once a week.

An old dream another day (CELINE DION)
An old dream another day
I hope to see u on the 30th of May
My dream will be fulfilled after all these years
So many smiles and even happiness from tears
An old dream another day
Just to hope to see you sing and play
Another day but still the same dream
Soon to be done no one will know how much it would mean
An old dream another day
Still the same things I want the same way
To here your voice upon my ears
To here you sing will bring me to tears
An old dream another day
To here you sing on that stage
To here your voice so loud and clear
An old dream that gets near
An old dream another day
To listen to you sing in such a special way
I will think you are singing just for me
And I will be the happiest I can ever be
An old dream another day

Sing Your Life
Sing your life
Any fool can think of words that rhyme
Many others do
Why dont you ?
Do you want to ?
Oh...
Sing your life
Walk right up to the microphone
And name
All the things you love
All the things that you loathe
Oh, sing your life
The things that you love
And the things you loathe
Oh, sing your life
Oh, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
Others sang your life
But now is a chance to shine
And have the pleasure of
Saying what you mean
Have the pleasure of
Meaning what you sing
Oh, make no mistake my friend
All of this will end
So sing it now (sing your life)
All the things you love (sing your life)
All the things you loathe
Oh, sing your life
The things that you love
And the things you loathe (sing your life)
Oh, sing oh...
Oh, sing oh...
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
Dont leave it all unsaid
Somewhere in the wasteland of your head, oh
Head, oh, head, oh, head, oh
And make no mistake, my friend
Your pointless life will end
But before you go
Can you look at the truth ?
You have a lovely singing voice
A lovely singing voice
And all of those
Who sing on-key
They stole the notion
From you and me
So, sing your life (sing your life)
Sing your life (sing your life)
Oh, sing your oh...
Oh, sing your
Sing your life
Sing your life
Sing your life
Oh, sing your oh...
(sing your life)
(sing your life)
Sing your life
(sing your life)

In The Way Back Then
Seven years ago,
I went back to Canada
after forty-two years.
I walked down a road
to show my wife where I used to live.
The road was built on rolling hills
and as I came over one,
I knew instantly where I was.
Things had changed
in those forty-two years,
some would say
it was unrecognisable
from what I used to know,
but as soon as I started down the hill
things came back like yesterday.
It was as if I had never been away.
Memories of my childhood
instantly sprang to mind.
I found myself seeing things
not as the now,
but there were changes
from the way back then.
The memory flashes
brought a smile to my face
as I could visualise
all the friends I knew then,
the funny incidents that over my life
in the way back then.
All too soon, time
has a way of taking things back
and my memory reclined them
to the back door of my mind.
