Francis Crick

A final proof of our ideas can only be obtained by detailed studies on the alterations produced in the amino acid sequence of a protein by mutations of the type discussed here.

It now seems certain that the amino acid sequence of any protein is determined by the sequence of bases in some region of a particular nucleic acid molecule.

A comparison between the triplets tentatively deduced by these methods with the changes in amino acid sequence produced by mutation shows a fair measure of agreement.

This seems highly likely, especially as it has been shown that in several systems mutations affecting the same amino acid are extremely near together on the genetic map.

That the primary effect of gene mutation may be as simple as the substitution of a single amino acid by another and may lead to profound secondary changes in protein structure and properties has recently been strongly indicated by the work of Ingram on hemoglobin.

It now seems very likely that many of the 64 triplets, possibly most of them, may code one amino acid or another, and that in general several distinct triplets may code one amino acid.

Degrees Don't Love You

Degrees don't love you so you never went to school!
But your mind writes like a Philosopher to teach many;
And the truth is, Degrees are obtained under a Faculty.

Degrees are obtained after the length of studies,
But without one's Philosophy there is no Faculty!
Because one has to create the ideas for others to follow;
And out of Philosophy came the branches of Faculties.

You don't need any Degree to identify yourself,
Because you have the ability of teaching others;
And Philosophy is always above Faculty! !
For, you are a Philosopher with the magic ink of your mind.

Unfortunately it makes the unambiguous determination of triplets by these methods much more difficult than would be the case if there were only one triplet for each amino acid.

The balance of evidence both from the cell-free system and from the study of mutation, suggests that this does not occur at random, and that triplets coding the same amino acid may well be rather similar.

Procrastination

Standing alone,
Brain in a fog,
Think I'll go for a walk,
With my acid dog.

Pissing on flames,
To put out the fires,
Chasing ideas,
Kicking at tyres.

Accomplishing nothing,
He'll go where he's led.
Acid dog
Is in my head.

The meaning of this observation is unclear, but it raises the unfortunate possibility of ambiguous triplets; that is, triplets which may code more than one amino acid. However one would certainly expect such triplets to be in a minority.

What Type Of Man

What kind of a man goes after a married woman
What kind of a man does it and proclaims his faith in GOD
What kind of man does the things that he shouldn't
Does that type of man think that he will never be caught.
What type of man leaves his children and his wife
What type of man puts his needs and his wants first
What type of a man is scared to fight his own fights
Does that type of man cares whose soul that he hurts.
What type of man talks behind other peoples backs
What type of man lies to make himself look tall in front of others
What type of man is scared to admit the guilt that he has done
Does that type of man think that we are his brothers.
What type of man will not work for a living
What type of man wants others to take care of him
What type of man thinks he is something but he's not
Does that type of man thinks that manhood is his friend.
What type of man cannot be used as an example
What type of man does not keep promises that he's made
What type of man should not be father to any child
Does that type of man know the price that a real man has paid.
What type of man thinks but he cannot think
What type of man looks but he truly does not see
What type of man hears but he does not listen
Does that type of man know that he could never be me.

Day Of The Lords

(joy division)
This is the room, the start of it all
No portrait so fine, only sheets on the wall
Ive seen the nights, filled with bloodsport and pain
And the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained
Where will it end?
These are your friends,
From childhood through youth
Who goaded you on, demanded full proof
Withdrawal pains hard, it can do you right in
So distorted and thin, distorted and thin
Where will it end?
This is the car at the edge of the road
Theres nothing disturbed,
All the windows are closed
I guess you were right, when we talked in the heat
Theres no room for the weak,
No room for the weak
Where will it end?
This is the room, the start of it all
Through childhood, through youth,
I remember it all
Ive seen the nights, filled with bloodsport and pain
And the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained
Where will it end?

Drink Me Eat Me

the known world keeps
expanding contracting
with wondrous profusion

though potions drunk
wizard cakes eaten
are no longer necessary

when venturing through
kaleidoscopic looking glass
nor are rabbit holes needed

spy glass, magnifying glass, telescope,
microscope, radio telescope,
electron microscope, Hubble telescope,

amazing slices of perceived creation revealed,
expanding perceptions cosmic and microscopic
in a garden of rabbit hole worm hole replaced

an electron microscopic
images the sample surface
by scanning it with a high-
energy beam of electrons
in simple raster scan pattern

it’s a kind of magic?
funny how we are never
far from the garden?

A raster scan, or raster scanning?

analogy; raster graphics, pattern image storage
transmission; used in computer bitmap image
systems; raster from Latin rastrum (a rake)
seek meaning; derived from radere (to scrape)

knowledge back in the garden rake over meaning?

rake earth over seeds
seeds of embryo ideas
fertile bed scatter ideas
choice seeds will grow

the pattern left by the tines of a rake,
when drawn straight, lines of a rake,
resembles parallel lines of a raster,
line-by-line scanning creates a raster

a systematic process of covering
an area progressively, one line at a time
is the rectangular pattern of image
capture and reconstruction in television

although a great deal faster
similar in most-general sense
to how one's gaze travels
when one reads text a poem

rastrum, an instrument
for drawing musical
staff lines, as we seek
celestial music universe
composed, in cosmic song

funny how
a Hubble telescope
with glasses
produced
ever more
detailed images

electron microscopy
a crystalline assembly
of electron diffraction
patterns of unstained

crystals show crystal
lattice sampling of
the coiled-coil molecular
transform to a resolution

beyond... a ‘spot-scan’
method of electron imaging,
micrographs of unstained
crystals have been obtained

that visibly diffract laser
light from crystal spacings
as small as... a projection
map was calculated to...

using electron diffraction
amplitudes and phases
from computer-processed
images, the projection map

clearly shows modulations
in density arising from...
the first time this type of
modulation has been revealed?

truly we tumble ever further
down the rabbit hole
in quest controlled descent

crystals have p2 plane group
symmetry examinations of tilted
specimens shows the unit cell
only singular one molecule thick

possible modes of packing
of molecules in three
dimensions are discussed

eat me drink me
in ever smaller bigger
increments seems
we ever more must

Theology is not for me.

What I believe may not be true
Until I know it has to do.
My personal philosophy
Is based not on theology.

But on ideas I have aquired
thoughts my studies have inspired.
Ideas which aren’t unique to me
Which I have stolen probably.

Adopted would be more correct
Which I continue to collect.
From anywhere and everywhere.
To consider and compare

Eventually I hope to see
All men treated equally

I try to keep an open mind
about the strange things that I find.
That some established churches teach
that human souls must do to reach.

Perfection: Which I can’t accept.
Although I try to show respect.
To the beliefs that others hold.
I don’t believe all I was told.

By people in authority
Who had the task of teaching me.
What they believed quite honestly.
But had no proof to offer me.

I saw no point in argument.
But I withheld my agreement.
Although I listened patiently
It seemed quite obvious to me.

That what they taught made little sense
And silence was my best defence.
