To illustrate to the Indians the advantages the white race had in the telephone I divided a body of warriors from Sitting Bull's camp into two parties and had them talk to each other over the telephone line.

You Hate the Telephone
You hate the telephone
but will not see me
face to face
so I am left
beseeching you
long-distance,
trying to thread our love
along the telephone poles
of Vermont,
trying to tunnel it
under the Atlantic
as if it were
a rare fossil
I'd unearthed,
or an offshore pipe
bearing precious oil.
But it is your face
I love,
your funny grin
that now seems
cruel around the edges.
You do not wish to be
cruel-you,
the kindest person in the world,
but driven to curious
rages
when you feel
pressured, frustrated,
saddled with
an albatross of love
like an ancient
mariner
who tells his same sad story
to the wedding guests.
The telephone will not
suffice.
Coleridge would have
loathed it,
& so would his
mariner.
It is our modern
Person from Porlock,
interrupting poems,
interrupting loves
& forever
keeping us at arm's length.
I would look you in the eye
again, saying yes, yes, yes-
we have said no enough,
for the rest
of many lifetimes.

Population
Cart, car, train, aeroplane,
Telephone, wireless and television
All brought the distance closer.
Internet wiped that little distance.
But the distance between castes
And creeds still grows wider.
The evil lies in population explosion,
Without which comes no revolution.

Long Distance Drunk
Hang it up now or never
Hang it up again
(hang it up now or never)
Hang it up now or never
Hang it up again
Hang it up now or never
Hang it up again
Doesnt seem like anything youre saying or doing or doing
Is making any sense
Long distance drunk
Long distance drunk
Long distance drunk
Oh yeah oh yeah
(8 am and someone calls you on the telephone)
Long distance drunk
(you want to be by yourself and all alone)
Long distance drunk

In other words, what is supposedly found is an invention whose inventor is unaware of his act of invention, who considers it as something that exists independently of him; the invention then becomes the basis of his world view and actions.

Drinking with a bosom friend, a thousand shots are too few; Talking with a disagreeable person, half a sentence is too many.
Don't flatter yourself that friendship authorizes you to say disagreeable things to your intimates. The nearer you come into relation with a person, the more necessary do tact and courtesy become.

Full of excuses
I didn't telephone a.m.
as you'd be having breakfast then.
I didn't telephone at noon
for fear you might be lunching soon.
I didn't telephone p.m.
I thought you might be sleeping and
I didn't telephone at 8
for dinner in your house is late.
I didn't telephone at 9
for fear this may be T.V. time.
I didn't telephone today
as time just seemed to slip away.
No wonder that we never speak,
perhaps I'll try sometime next week?

Remedy? See it, Read It And Delete
Why send a message,
With an expectation to receive a response.
If your 'email' box is full and blocked.
And when you confront people,
You ask of them...
Why has their communication stopped.
Why bother to have email at all?
If this instant way of keeping in touch,
Is quicker than making a telephone call.
Or if someone says,
'I answered your message...
Why haven't you responded? '
And that person says...
~Time has prevented me to do it.~
And this is the same person heard to say...
~No one ever tells me what's going on.
And if they did...
I haven't reviewed my email for weeks.~
Remedy?
See it, read it and delete!
