The Man By
Theres a man
Who plays the game of life so well
Theres such a man
His thoughts you can never tell
And its just the way he thought it would be
cause the day has come for him to be free
Then he laughs, he kicks and rolls up his sleeves
Im alive and Im here forever
This is the man
Theres a man
Everybody thought they knew
Theres such a man
Hes not like me and you
And its just the way she thought it would be
As he says, something has happened to me
Then he laughs, he kicks and rolls up his sleeves
Im alive and Im here forever
This is the man
And its just the way he thought it would be
cause the day has come for him to be free
Then he laughs, he kicks and rolls up his sleeves
Im alive and Im here forever
This is the man
Did you know - this man can do anything?
Theres such a man
I wish that we could bring
And its just the way he thought it would be
cause the day has come for him to be free
Then he laughs, he kicks and rolls up his sleeves
Im alive and Im here forever
This is the man

The Shirt
The buttonholes were empty.
The buttons had all let go.
The shirt was now a remnant,
one he did outgrow.
The sleeves were short so he rolled them.
The plaid material was faded.
Now it was getting much too tight
as he saw his name brocaded.
The name was what she called him,
'Sonny, sonny boy.'
Her voice came back when he wore it.
It was a sound of joy.
He would have to give up wearing it
and pray that she would know
that no other shirt he'd ever wear
were what her hands did sew.
Mom. dear mom you come alive
everytime I see that shirt.
It helps me when I'm missing you.
It takes away the hurt.
Every other shirt that I have worn
could never quite replace
the feeling I get when I see it
for I see your loving face.

Shrinking
Have you ever had that feeling
you are growing,
or is it your clothes are shrinking?
You know when your trouser bottoms
start creeping up to your knees,
or your shirt sleeves
start climbing up to your elbows,
or your waistline begins to grow,
but your belt hangs loose,
or your chest is expanding
because the buttons keep popping of your shirt.
Oh yea, I know that feeling ever so well
as it happens to me all the time
just after my wife does the washing.
She follows the instructions to the letter,
but still they begin to shrink.
Nothing is unshrinkable when she goes to wash,
except once.
There always has to be one exception.
I had a nice towelin shirt
and when she had finished with it,
the shirt touched my knees
and looked like I was wearing a skirt.
Here I am six foot three,
yet my clothes will fit someone three feet three
and a lot thinner than me.
Now I am at my wits end wondering just what to do.
It feels like playing Russian roulette
when the next wash begins.

Who loses his honor loses a lot, who loses his faith, loses everything.
When the honour is given to that scientist personally the happiness is sweet indeed. Science is, on the whole, an informal activity, a life of shirt sleeves and coffee served in beakers.

The Day's Plans Go Awry
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The day's plans go awry,
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The tears that God must cry.
'Hey Mom, what's rain, what makes it fall? '
Asked Zachary, sincere.
'When will it stop, will it at all?
I can't be stuck in here.'
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The day's plans go awry,
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
As God begins to cry.
'It's God's tears, my son, he must weep,
For all of us on earth.
The pain we feel, we cannot keep,
Ourselves alone from birth.'
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The day's plans go awry,
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
For our pain God must cry.
'But Mom, God's cried, every day,
He must be getting weak.
Tell him to laugh, that's what I'd say,
And try that for a week.'
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The day's plans go awry,
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
Why do we make him cry?
'But ah, my son, you do not know,
How much hurt God has felt.
So our Father, he has to show,
Us what our pain has dealt.'
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The day's plans go awry.
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
God doesn't want to cry.
'So Mom, then why, do we hurt God?
How can we be so bad?
Why do we hurt each other too?
We know it makes him sad.'
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The day's plans go awry,
It's wet out there, the rain rolls in,
The tears that God must cry.

Greensleeves
Alas my love you do me wrong
To cast me out discourteously
When I have loved you so so long
Delighting in your company
Your gown was of the grassy green
Your sleeves of satin were hanging by
Which made you be a harvest queen
Yet you would not love me
Green sleeves was my all my joy
Green sleeves was my delight
Green sleeves was my heart of gold
And who but my lady green sleeves
Alas my love you do me wrong
To cast me out discourteously
When I have loved you so so long
Delighting in your company

The River & The Highway
(gerry house/don schlitz)
She follows the path of least resistance
She doesnt care to see the mountain top
She twists and turns with no regard to distance
She never comes to a stop
And she rolls, shes a river
Where she goes, time will tell
Heaven knows, he cant go with her
And she rolls, all by herself
All by herself
Hes headed for a single destination
He doesnt care whats standing in his path
Hes a line between two points of separation
He ends just where it says to on the map
And he rolls, hes a highway
Where he goes, time will tell
Heaven knows, she cant go with him
And he rolls, all by himself
All by himself
And every now and then, he offers her a shoulder
And every now and then, she overflows
And every now and then, a bridge crosses over
Its a moment that every lover knows
And she rolls (and he rolls)
Shes a river (hes a highway)
Where she goes (where he goes)
Time will tell (time will tell)
Heaven knows she cant go with him (he cant go with her)
And she rolls all by herself
And he rolls all by himself
Fare thee well

My losses,
My loses,
My loses was with a call,
My losses was with a message,
My loses was with a man,
My loses came from them,
I made my loss that I was losing it,
Grab I to take away,
Losses that are so Dynamic,
My loss,
This is the loss that upon this soul,
My loses that I made it,
Loss it,
Iam losing that I may win,
Losing is the tight game,
Lose that is upon this soul,
Lose that I need to gain in profit,
Losers will fail,
Lose that I may win,
This is the calling of the lose,
That I may benefit,
Let me lose that I may win.

You Look Good In My Shirt
When you walked up behind me and covered my eyes
And whispered in my ear, guess who
I rattled off names like I really didnt know
But all along I knew it was you
And, the longer we talked, the more we laughed
And wondered why we didnt last
It had been a long time, but later last night
Baby, we caught up real fast
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
Thats right
You look good in my shirt
Well now Im not saying that we solved overnight
Every way that we went wrong
Oh, but what Im seeing Id sure love seeing
Every morning from now on
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
Cmon now
Aww thats right
Oh you look so fine
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
You look good in my shirt
You look good in my shirt

Cigarette Break, Sans Newports
This weather is perfect.
I could lay bare on the grass and in the sun
To delight in the breeze flying in from the mountains.
My mind is void of music which would hope to bounce around my head,
Obstructing clarity and thought.
I have but fifteen minutes on my break.
I find myself tucking in my shirt and straightening my sleeves
As I re-enter the building and return to my desk.
I wish I was playing soccer.

Ritual
It is not the position,
not the money,
not the opportunity.
It is breakfast
with my steaming tea,
my rolls,
my periodicals,
my wife pouring, buttering, keeping quiet,
my shower, towel, shirt and tie,
my selection of that tie and
that tie's winding,
my good-bye.
