If I would have ever dreamed that I wouldn't be in Van Halen anymore and was going to have resume my solo career again, I would have never contributed anything towards my own greatest hits package.

Truth is, you make albums, and some of those songs are hits, and some of the greatest hits albums have songs that weren't hits. You have a career, the reason why we're still around 10 years is that we do have successful songs.

I wished that I could have been down there because Paul actually wanted me to do the tour with him, but then he realized that it just wouldn't be right. It wouldn't be a solo tour anymore. It would look like just half of KISS.
The Beatles will never get back together and David Lee Roth will never again sing with Van Halen.

I'm The Coolest
You know I'm the coolest
That's ever come around
You'll notice things get hotter
Whenever I'm in town
I mean I gotta be the coolest
Who else could it be?
Everybody knows who's really cool
Me
Let's face it, I'm the greatest
I'm Mr. Number One
My hometown built a statue
To their favorite son
I mean I gotta be the greatest
I'm just a ball of fun
I mean I'm definitely the greatest
I'm also the coolest
You can't leave a package like me
Sitting on no shelf
Let me tell you I'm so cool sonny
I'm gonna save a little for myself
Baby, come over here a minute
Who is the coolest?
I mean how do I look?
Yeah.
You can't leave a package like me
Sitting on no shelf
Let me tell you I'm so cool sonny
I'm gonna save a little for myself
You know the day I was born
There were these four dudes up on a hill
They said they saw this star
Hanging out over town
And the whole world seemed to stand still
It made the Sunday papers
I guess it proves for sure
I am the coolest
I am the greatest
I am the baddest
I am the smoothest
I'm just the best
Sand dancer come on
Ah yeah
Right

So you do shorter versions of the hits, or you take out a long guitar solo or things like that to make time for the hits and new music as well. But I don't think any of us ever get to do as much new music as we would like to.

It’s My Destiny
If you had one chance,
Would you take it?
If you were given a taste of your dreams,
Would you take it?
If you were shown what you dreamed of,
Would you take it?
Don’t you see?
This is my destiny,
All roads have leaded here.
If you greatest fear was taken away,
Would you take it then?
If all the problems were take way,
Would you take it?
If you were given the chance to show your potential,
Wouldn’t you take that chance?
Don’t you see?
This is my destiny,
All roads leaded here.
All I had to do was make a sacrifice,
And look what I have got?
If that was the only thing you had to do,
Wouldn’t you do it for the chance?
Wouldn’t you do for your destiny?
Your destiny?
Don’t you see?
This is my destiny,
All roads leaded here.
You just don’t understand,
It’s my destiny to be here,
To do all this,
You say don’t believe in destiny?
I say that you do,
You just don’t know it yet.

Going Solo
She left a message after the tone,
I hear it over and over on the answer phone.
No one can find her, address unknown.
She just decided to go out and make it alone.
Solo, solo,
My little child is going solo.
Solo, solo,
My little child is going solo.
I feel like crying, Im in a rage.
I cant understand why she just ran away.
What made it happen, guess well never know.
She just decided to go out and make it solo.
Solo, solo, solo, solo, solo.
We work like dogs all of our lives,
Like millions of other husbands and wives.
Sent her through college, didnt care what we spent.
Think of how we feel,
She didnt say, she didnt ask, she just went.
Solo, solo,
My little child, youre going solo.
Its like a pattern, its like a crime,
We see it happen time after time.
You raise your children, you watch them grow,
Then one day its good-bye, theyve decided theyre going solo.
Solo, solo, solo, solo, solo.
The toys are forgotten, now it appears,
Youve let them down after all of these years.
Sacrificed all, now theres nothing to show,
Ungrateful youth, decided youre going solo.
Solo, solo,
My little child, youre going solo.
Solo, solo,
Ungrateful youth, youre going solo.
The obligations, all of the ties,
Have got to be broken so you can survive.
Just because they gave you life, they cant stop if you grow,
Now they cant hold you back cause youre going solo

Dreaming of That Day
I've dreamed of the day we meet,
I've dreamed of the look in your eyes,
I've dreamed of your smile,
I've dreamed of holding you under the moon lit sky.
The feel of your hand,
Your scent in the air,
The sparkle in your eyes,
The moon glistning in your hair.
My greatest imaginations,
Couldn't compare to the heart i'll soon meet,
Im dreaming of that day,
To embrace this lady so sweet.

It's hard to say this about a guy like Eddie Van Halen, one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived, but he's really limited to a style and they're locked into it.

Van Halen
When I was a teen,
I went and saw David Lee Roth
who was lean and mean.
Jumping through the air,
screaming at the top of his lungs,
full of theatrics, full of fun.
He wore a sparkly red jumpsuit,
He was hot, point rather mute.
Now Eddy jammed on with brother Alex on drums,
They each did a fantastic solo, never ho hum.
Later I went to see Van Halen again,
This time with Sammy Hagar who is talented like them.
It was a great show, but Sammy did not jump in air,
He likes red costume too with clothes a flair.
Now I hear David Lee Roth is back again,
playing with Van Halen they made up and are friends.
It would be an interesting show to attend,
to see David Lee Roth jump, twirl and bend.

I Ain't Got Time Anymore
Got no time to stop to speak to friends passing by
Got no strength to wipe away the tears from my eyes
I don't care what's going on
Only know she's gone
The sun don't shine anymore
And I don't feel fine anymore
She ain't mine anymore
No, I don't feel fine anymore
I Ain't got time anymore
Seems to be such sadness in each place I go
The people laugh and still I just wouldn't know
Never stop to see who's there
Once I used to care
But the sun don't shine anymore
I don't feel fine anymore
She ain't mine anymore
No, I don't feel fine anymore
I Ain't got time anymore
I can't get use to being left on my own
It takes up all the time just trying to be alone
Used to take an interest in the state of affairs
Now I only know how much I'm missing that girl
Hope the world will understand
I can't lend a hand
Cause she ain't mine anymore
I don't feel fine anymore
She ain't mine anymore
No, I don't feel fine anymore
Ain't got time anymore
She ain't mine anymore
I don't feel fine anymore
Ain't got time anymore
She ain't mine anymore
No, I don't feel fine anymore
