I wouldn't mind meeting Eddie Van Halen. That would be great. We need to invite him to a race.

David Lee Roth had the idea that if you covered a successful song, you were half way home. C'mon - Van Halen doing 'Dancing in the Streets'? It was stupid. I started feeling like I would rather bomb playing my own songs than be successful playing someone else's music.

When I was in Van Halen I was hitting notes that were out of my range. I never went for those registers before until Eddie pulled it out of me.

I think a lot of modern day guitarists start off playing like Eddie van Halen, and they don't take the time to learn the basics.
Spitfire asked me if I had a problem talking about Van Halen or Extreme. I really don't. There are people who are just going to want to know what it was like to play with Eddie.

It's part of our nature. As much as I love (brother and guitarist Eddie), if you put us in a room with no one else for 15 minutes, we'd be at each other's throats.

It's hard to say this about a guy like Eddie Van Halen, one of the greatest guitar players who ever lived, but he's really limited to a style and they're locked into it.

Wouldn't It Be Great
Wouldn't it be great,
To speculate with accuracy...
How someone else should be,
And they were exactly...
How we perceived them.
And we were rumor mill free.
Wouldn't it be great?
Wouldn't it be great,
To have a flavor to taste?
And that flavored tasted,
Was exactly the one craved.
How about this one?
Would it be great,
If those were created...
For the deeds they did.
And have those who knew it,
Not try to throw someone under a bus.
Wouldn't it be great,
If people awakened to appreciate others?
Instead of defaming the slander.
Or pick their names to cuss.
Wouldn't it be great if it 'was' about an 'us'...
And not about distrust, deceit,
Or the feeding of selfish greed.
Wouldn't it be greed if we did not believe,
We were entitled with these as needs.

There's a plaque on our wall that says we've sold over 65 million albums, and I don't feel I've accomplished anything. I feel like I'm just getting started.

I had a solo career before Van Halen. My fan base filtered through Van Halen with me and came right on out the other side with me.

But Eddie does not make all the decisions. Eddie can listen to reason; Eddie can be swayed or talked in or out of certain things. Eddie allows other people to lead in this band and to have certain roles that are very fundamental to the decision-making process.

If You Wouldn't Be My Lady
Take away the song a songbird sings
Take away the sound that laughter brings
Take the music from a melody
Never take your love away from me
You make me smile
You make darkness turn into warm sunshine
You give me love
The Lord above knows
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here today
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here to stay
Take away the gentle summer breeze
Take away the golden autumn leaves
I can live without blue skies above
But I could never live without your love
You give me life
You make bad times turn into the good times
You give me love
The Lord above knows
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here to stay
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here to stay
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here today
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady

Music is for people. The word 'pop' is simply short for popular. It means that people like it. I'm just a normal jerk who happens to make music. As long as my brain and fingers work, I'm cool.

Meeting Across The River
Hey, eddie, can you lend me a few bucks
And tonight can you get us a ride
Gotta make it through the tunnel
Got a meeting with a man on the other side
Hey eddie, this guy, hes the real thing
So if you want to come along
You gotta promise you wont say anything
'cause this guy dont dance
And the words been passed this is our last chance
We gotta stay cool tonight, eddie
'cause man, we got ourselves out on that line
And if we blow this one
They aint gonna be looking for just me this time
And all we gotta do is hold up our end
Here stuff this in your pocket
Itll look like youre carrying a friend
And remember, just dont smile
Change your shirt, 'cause tonight we got style
Well cherry says shes gonna walk
'cause she found out I took her radio and hocked it
But eddie, man, she dont understand
That two grands practically sitting here in my pocket
And tonights gonna be everything that I said
And when I walk through that door
Im just gonna throw that money on the bed
Shell see this time I wasnt just talking
Then Im gonna go out walking
Hey eddie, can you catch us a ride?

Born In A Junkyard
If you wouldn't mind, I would like it blew
If you wouldn't mind, I would like to lose
If you wouldn't care, I would like to leave
If you wouldn't mind, I would like to breath
Is there another reason for your stain
Could you believe who we knew stress or strain
Here is another word that rhymes with shame
You could do anything
