The mystic rose

In ancient times
a warrior prince travelled to the East
to find the wisest man on earth.

Stars guided him
over uncharted terrain
to the court of Enoch
who counselled with the Almighty God.

Great and knowledgeable king,
point me the way
to find the most beautiful flower of all,

it’s called the mystic rose,
and like crystal its leaves glitters
in colours of blue, violet and ruby red
and its odour is more divine
than that of any other bloom.

Why do you need this spectre flower
the great wise king asked?
To win the heart of the girl that I desire
the prince proclaimed.

Where will I find the mystic rose?
The rich prince asked again
while his servants
brought great gifts to the wise king.

Enoch looked the prince in the eye
and said:
Somewhere in the depths
of your inner soul
lies the flower that you seek.

Without words the prince
studied the wise king
and thought about his words
without really comprehending.

The words were perplexing to the prince.
What is the mystic rose,
the prince asked at last

Its unconditional, self-sacrificing
and called perfect love
the wisest man said to him.

Wise Up

Got myself in this situation,
Im not sure about.
Climbing in where theres temptation,
Can I get back out?
I never can quite find the answer,
The one I want to hear.
The one that justifies my action
Says the coast is clear.
Something on the outside
Says to jump on in,
But something on the inside
Is telling me again,
Chorus:
Better wise up.
Better think twice.
Never leave room for compromise.
You better wise up.
Better get smart.
And use your head to guard your heart.
Its gonna get rough,
So you better wise up.
Take a look at your intentions,
When you have to choose.
Could it be that apprehension,
Might be telling you,
To back off now is better,
So take your heart and run.
But get your thoughts together,
Before they come undone.
(repeat chorus)
(you got to wise up.
You got to think twice.
You got to wise up.
You got to. you got to.)
To back off now is better,
So take your heart and run.
But get your thoughts together,
Before they come undone.
(repeat chorus)
So you better wise up.
Better think twice.
And never leave room for compromise.
Oh, you better wise up.
Better get smart.
And use your head to guard your heart.
Its gonna get rough,
So you better wise up.
(you got to wise up.
You got to think twice. (hohhhh!)
You got to wise up. (oh, yeah!)
You got to. you got to.)
So you better wise up, now....
(you got to wise up.
You got to think twice. (better wise up, yall!)
You got to wise up.
You got to. you got to. (oh, yeah!))
(you got to wise up.
You got to think twice. (better...)
You got to wise up. (oh, you better wise up, now....)
You got to. you got to. (ohhhhh, yeah!!!))
(you got to wise up. (hoo! hoo, hoo, hoo, hoooooooo-hoo!!)
You got to think twice.
You got to wise up.
You got to. you got to. (oh, got to show yo, yeah!))
(you got to wise up.
You got to think twice. (hoaa!! oowwwww!!!)
You got to wise up.
You got to. you got to.)

Perfect Throne

Mountains of words congregate to form an eruption,
Sentences let the sword of destruction have expansion.
Five words are written: luck, patience, wealth, modesty and adventure;
These five contain the pleasures offered by him - they are familiar.
Breath inhaled, spirit popped, love arranged, and scent displayed,
The encounter of a wise-man never dismayed.
His wisest attribute speaks highly of the throne
We trained by the justice of the alone.
His backbone never breaks, never takes
The inside of disbelief and betrayal, this never makes.

Ibrahim's tale

Ibrahim

Ibrahim was a shoemaker
in that Persian land afar
where wisest men practice crafts
in side-alleys without name
and teach with stories

One day, Ibrahim was overcome
by happiness beyond all belief
while the sun moved from there to here

He told his friend, who said
you look the same to me

He went to the doctor who said
we’d better keep an eye on that,
it might need an X-ray

He went to the priest who said
the Devil has cunning ways
to tempt with gifts

He went to the politician who said
it’s just a way to avoid
your social responsibility

He went to the psychiatrist who said
such delusions are uncommon but
not unknown come back next week

Ibrahim walked home
through the market and stallholders smiled
even though he bought nothing

a stray dog followed him home
his wife said you’re late for dinner
how lucky you are to have me for a wife

his children said
didn’t you bring anything home for us?

But here the story of Ibrahim
splits into many versions;

so you who know that bliss
which overcame our Ibrahim
must complete it for yourselves
to tell to your chlldren and
your children’s children

so that wise men smile, and angels laugh,
and poets pause, and storytellers
nod to themselves, while
they shape and tack their shoes, that
a storyteller carries on wise shoulders
a responsibility to human beings
greater than any king..

Wise Man

I sat before the wise man
In the autumn of my youth
And I told him all
The things I had to know
He said you have the future
If you need to find the truth
And in his eyes
I saw that it was so
So I came right out
And asked him
The meaning of life
And as he smiled
I saw a twinkle in his eye
He said with all his years
Theres still so much
He has to learn
And once again
I saw that it was so
Keep on living, loving
Waiting your turn
Its the only way to
Ease your concern
If you want to find
Your dream, be sure
You dont wake up too soon
Or youll find it easier
Shooting for the moon
Wise man, wise man
Which way shall I run
Theres so many roads
So many ways to turn
I am like a blind man
Lost in the sun
I wanna be like you
And be a wise man too
But Im looking for
An easy way to learn
And be a wise man too

Sonnet XXV: The Wisest Scholar

The wisest scholar of the wight most wise
By Phoebus' doom, with sugar'd sentence says,
That Virtue, if it once met with our eyes,
Strange flames of love it in our souls would raise;

But for that man with pain his truth descries,
Whiles he each thing in sense's balance weighs,
And so nor will, nor can behold those skies
Which inward sun to heroic mind displays,

Virtue of late with virtuous care to stir
Love of herself, took Stella's shape, that she
To mortal eyes might sweetly shine in her.

It is most true, for since I her did see,
Virtue's great beauty in that face I prove,
And find th'effect, for I do burn in love.

Playing The Role Of The Fool

ONE Day
the wise man plays the role of a fool
in the market place
he meets the wise man
of the town

he pays homage to his
black cap
the mark of the wise man
in that little
town far away from
civilization

he bows to him
and does not utter a word

the wise man
signals him to stop
and he looks at him
direct to his eyes
like a comet
shooting the blackness
of space

and the wise man kisses
his hand
bows down to him
and hands his right hand to him
for a handshake

obviously the eyes of the birds
of the same feathers
understand their
chosen silences

The Wise And The Foolish

Oh woe is me if all around me thinks me foolish!
Oh woe is me for all around me have tought themselves wise!
Wise is he that knows that he is foolish and seeks to be wise!
And foolish is he that knows not that he is a fool and thus seeks not wisdom!
Oh man, answer thee this! Is it better to be foolishly wise or to be wisely foolish?
Seek thou the truth and it shall set you free from thy woes!
