An Englishmen thinks seated; a Frenchmen standing; an American pacing, an Irishman, afterwards.

I think American men are more conscious of putting up a good impression. There's more of an earthiness to Englishmen. But Americans aren't afraid to come up and say, 'Hi, I'd like to go out with you.' Englishmen are far more sheepish about it.

Springtime and Old Irishmen
As an Irishman,
tis my prerogative
To be an authority on all things
Great and small
As an "old" Irishman
it's my fate
Of late (and as always)
To simply know it all
As an old Irishman of visage worn
Of craggy face, rheumy blue eyes
With clothing crudely rent and worn
Prone to ale, stout and whisky sighs
As an old wise, wizened Irishman
Who loves the winter as a wondrous thing
But as sure it is, I'm an old Irishman
I treasure most…the Irish Spring
As a wise, wizened, oft inebriated Irishman
Given well to know that one's only given so many things
I relish the pleasure of the Springs I have left
Until this old wrinkled Irishman takes wing
As when this old Irishman
leaves the moor and the glen
There's but a few things I'll rue
To not see nor to hear once again
ne'er again see na' more The hind end of Winters…
ne'er hear "Danny boy" pluck again at me heartstrings…
And Na' more to smell the cold Irish sea
Nor know the fresh faces of fine Irish Springs

One is better off seated than standing. lying than seated, asleep than awake, and dead than alive.
Put an Irishman on the spit, and you can always get another Irishman to baste him.
Wellington
Great captain if you will! great Duke! great Slave!
Great minion of the crown! - but a great man
He was not! He? the iron instrument
Of mere authority! the atheist
Of a conventional and most earthy duty!
To whom the powers that be were simply not
Of God-but in His stead! Shall we belie
All righteous instinct and profane all truth,
By calling great a man without a soul?
One who, apart from the despotic wills
Of crowned oppressors, knew no right, no wrong.
No faith, no country, and no brotherhood?
If such a man were great, may God most High
Spare henceforth to our universal race
All greatness, seeing it may sometimes be
A rigid, kindiess battlement of Power
Self throned and sanctioned only by the sword.
And if' as Englishmen are proud to boast,
He was their greatest countryman-alas!
For England's national sterility!
But they who thus belaud him, lie, as all
True patriots most feelingly perceive.
Besides, he was not England's son at all:
He was an Irishman, with whom the name
Of Ireland was a scoff! An Irishman,
Who for a hireling's meed and ministry,
Could tear away from his inhuman heart
The pleading image of his native land.

Pacing The Cage
By: bruce cockburn
Sunset is an angel weeping
Holding out a bloody sword
No matter how I squint I cannot
Make out what its pointing toward
Sometimes you feel like youve lived too long
Days drip slowly on the page
And you catch yourself
Pacing the cage
Ive proven who I am so many times
The magnetic strips worn thin
And each time I was someone else
And everyone was taken in
Powers chatter in high places
Stir up eddies in the dust of rage
Set me to pacing the cage
I never knew what you all wanted
So I gave you everything
All that I could pillage
All the spells that I could sing
Its as if the thing were written
In the constitution of the age
Sooner or later youll wind up
Pacing the cage
Sometimes the best map will not guide you
You cant see whats round the bend
Sometimes the road leads through dark places
Sometimes the darkness is your friend
Today these eyes scan bleached-out land
For the coming of the outbound stage
Pacing the cage
Pacing the cage

We really are 15 countries, and it's really remarkable that each of us thinks we represent the real America. The Midwesterner in Kansas, the black American in Durham -- both are certain they are the real American.

Patsy In Green - Do Yourself A Favour B-side
I heal the waiting hand
I cannot understand
I feel away again
I hear the crashing waves
I fear not for where she waits
I cannot play again
Oh, I know the reason why
I know the reason
Pacing up and facing off
Pacing up and facing off

Standing There In The Rain
Standing there in the rain
crying through the pain
Standing there in the rain
its so dark no one thought
Standing there in the rain
i watch how all disappears
Standing there in the rain
i dropped to my knees
Standing there in the rain
no strenght to believe again
Standing there in the rain
i wish i can breath again
Standing there in the rain
Im no longer there
Standing there in the rain
wish i knew what to do
Standing there in the rain
the dark is waiting for me
Standing there in the rain
im getting stronger
No longer screaming
no longer believing
Standing there in the rain
i see someone staring
Standing there in the rain
its when the war began....

Why do you think?
Why do you think?
Other should think the way you think
Can you think the way they think?
Everybody thinks’
His way is the right way to think
Respect what people think
The way they think
You will find people
Respecting what and how you think
Everybody has the right to think
The way he thinks’ and what he thinks’
One can only tell what he thinks’
If they like it
They will approve what you think
No regrets, no hard feelings
Nobody loses, Nobody wins

Standing On Ceremony
Remember your manners
Will you please take your hat off
Your mother is dying
Listen to her cough
We were always standing on ceremony
We were always standing on ceremony
Cant you show some respect please
Although you didnt in real life
Your mother is dying
And I God damn well hope youre satisfied
We were always standing on ceremony
We were always standing on ceremony
So please play another song on that juke box
Please play another pretty sad song for me
And if that phone rings, tell them that you havent seen me
If that last phone rings
Tell them that you havent seen me for weeks
And this one heres on me
Standing on ceremony, standing on ceremony
Standing on ceremony, standing on ceremony
Standing on ceremony, you were always standing on ceremony
(standing, on ceremony)
(standing, on ceremony)
(standing, on ceremony)
(standing, on ceremony)
(standing, on ceremony)
(standing, on ceremony)
...

I Can Take Care of Myself
Emotions racing
Mind's pacing
can't think of what to so
Standing here looking stupid in front of you
I try to stop my cry
Because of all the things you might try
I don't want you to fell sorry for me
I don't need anyone's sympathy
I don't want you to put your arms around me and squeeze tight
I don't want you to tell me it's gonna be alright
Can't you see, I'll be just fine
It's not your problem, it's mine
Don't expect me to cheer up, I won't
I know you wanna help, but don't
When will you learn
This isn't your concern
I can take care of myself without your help

The Poseur
The poseurs in town
The poseurs around
Hey, it dont bother me,
But theres a guy eyein you
Hes watched you all night and hes looked you all over
He got his eye on you
But dont act like youre surprised
Because that smooth-looking guys undressing you with his eyes
Look at him look you over
He thinks he can win you over
Hell flirt for a while, make passes and smile at you
But hell never come over
cause hes just a poseur
Who thinks hes a cassonova
That dude standing over there
He thinks he really looks cool
The ladies think he looks smooth
But hes rehearsed every move
He stands in front of the mirror all day
Now hes on display and hes so well routined
Weve all come here to dance but hes just here to be seen
Look at him bossa nova
Look at him move and sway
But hes been practicing days to make his hair fall a certain way
But hell never come over
cause hes just a poseur
Who thinks hes a casanova
Look at him bossa nova, yeah
The poseurs in town
Yeah

A li'l bit of experimentation
Standing!
In a large courtyard…
Waiting!
…for inspiration…
Viewing!
…artworks to be used…
Thinking!
…of beauty in the…
Seeing!
…historical scenes…
Writing!
…quick notes regarding…
Pacing!
Impatiently through
quick notes regarding
historical scenes
of beauty in the
artworks to be used
for inspiration
in a large courtyard.
Yet finding himself,
Standing!

Ages Of You
Postcard stowaway within
Pristine indigo without
Banded ottoman as such
Sofa seated one too much
All along the range all along the range
Ages of you
Train pulls over hanging bridge
Conductor looks up, thinks
Out and down, hands stuck to the left
To the right, you should fall,
The horses just dont gossip anymore
