The American flag, Old Glory, standing tall and flying free over American soil for 228 years is the symbol of our beloved country. It is recognized from near and afar, and many lives have been lost defending it.

I Am American

'I am American', I shout
When the flag marches on by,
I am American, and I am proud
As her glory comes to my eyes.
For the flag that which I live for
Is by the same that I will die
For I am proud and free; I am American,
And forever, I pray she flies.
On the streets of America
Upon the streets of the World
I walk in such pride and vigor
Whenever the flag is unfurled.
I am an American that is me
I'll proclaim that through out my life
I will live the way by which she flies
Unto the day, that I die.
And when I have no more breath to breathe
Or when the Worlds fighting is through
I will have lived and died an American
And my flag, she would have proudly flew.

American Flag

I am an American, I shout
When the flag marches on by,
I am American, and I am proud
As Her glory comes to my eyes.
The flag that which I live for
Is by which the same I would die
I am proud and free, I’m an American.
And forever I pray she flies.
And on the streets of America
Upon the streets of our World
I always walk in such pride and vigor,
Whenever our flag is unfurled.

I am an American, that is me
I’ll proclaim that throughout my life,
And I’ll live the way by which she flies
Until the day, that which I die.
Inside the books of history,
And upon the winds of time,
There lives the American story,
And the flag, that could never die.
And when I have no more breath to breathe
When the Worlds fighting all is through
I will have lived and died an American
And my flag, She would have proudly flew.

I am an American and that is how I live
And that is the way I write and what I believe
Though Many will not agree with what I do or say
But liberty has gave me the right to be me.
I have gave my thoughts and soul for this land
Though proudly I known freedom through sight,
And I would shed my blood, if needed be,
And if needed, I would gladly give my life.
When I have no more breath to breathe
And when the worlds fighting is through
I will have lived and died an American
And my flag, She would have proudly flew.

Half Mass

american soldiers were slaughtered
on a military base today.
by an arab american officer
who held everyone at bay.

and for these departed soldiers
all of america will pray.
but a question was put to me
and i was'nt sure just what to say.

if they are flying the american flag
at half mass for those who died today
what about the ones who've given their lives
to protect the american way?

why should we fly the flag at half mass
just for those who died at FORT HOOD.
it should be for all soldiers
and they would argue if they could.

keep our flags at half mass for all
that put their lives at stake.
there will be many more that we will honor
and their families at their wakes.

we should also put a yellow ribbon
on our red, white, and blue
until our soldiers come home
and this fighting is finally through.

Proud American Soldier

Proud American Soldier
(God bless and keep safe our fighting men and women in harm’s way)

I fought beside my brothers, as they died on foreign shores,
I’m proud to say, we fought and slay, our enemies by the scores.

One by one, we fought and won, wars down through the ages,
The history books are written with our blood stains on the pages.

Our skin is many colors, we are women and we’re men,
We stand up to injustices no matter where or when.

I’m a Proud American Soldier, my job’s to keep us free,
I ply my timeless trade so far away, across the sea.

When others cringe and cower, you’ll find us standing tall,
We’ll remain steadfast until the last, of the evil tip and fall.

Come what may, get in our way, we’ll never cut and run,
We’ll stay our course, with no remorse and it ain’t always fun.

We’re the sailors that go out to sea, we’re the pilots in the sky,
We’re the grunts out in the fox holes, and we all know that men die.

I’m a Proud American Soldier, my job’s to keeps free,
I ply my timeless trade so far away, across the sea.

They spoke kindly of my enemies, the same day that I died,
Then burned my flag in protest, as my widow watched and cried.

But don’t you worry much my friends, nor shed a tear for me,
There’s more where I come from, to fight and keep you free.

Freedom isn’t free dear friends, we foot the bill in blood.
We die in the desert sand and in the jungle’s mud.

I’m a Proud American Soldier, my jobs to keep us free,
I ply my timeless trade so far away across the sea.
I may be just a soldier, but that’s just fine by me.

All American Country Boy

(keith stegall/charlie craig)
I work a forty hour week and I earn my keep
And I try to walk proud and tall
I keep my nose to the ground, I dont get behind
And I dont back up at all
Well my necks a little red, my collars blue
I sip a little coffee, and I drink a little booze
cause Im an all american country boy
Im my daddys spittin image and my mamas pride and joy
There aint nothing down home that I really dont enjoy
cause Im an all american country boy
I drive a pickup truck and I dont pass the buck
And I always speak my mind
Im hooked on t.v., rolaids, and b.c.s
And I know how to have a good time
Im a little bit rowdy and a little bit tame
Aint no way Im ever gonna change
cause Im an all american country boy
Im my daddys spittin image and my mamas pride and joy
There aint nothing down home that I really dont enjoy
cause Im an all american country boy
Well I must admit that Ive mellowed a bit
Father time can slow you down
Im still doin all I used to do
It just takes a little longer now
cause Im an all american country boy
Im my daddys spittin image and my mamas pride and joy
There aint nothing down home that I really dont enjoy
cause Im an all american country boy
Im just a country boy
A good ol country boy

Guardian of freedom

I wake up early in the morning
at times there is laughter, joy, but a lost of a hero has us all mourning
complete my mission, and do what I am told
prepared for anything on any kind of weather, even in the cold

So be proud to be an American, respect our flag and national anthem
boots on the ground is the key to freedom
doing your job with courage, and good character is all you need
I'm strong, tough and trained to destroy my enemies with lighting speed

An American family paid the ultimate sacrafice for freedom today
a worrior has paved the way for your life style so you can work and play
young men and women stand ready to slow down or stop a disaster
we must unite, love all Americans like a family brother and sister

Many times a hero leaves his kids, wife and family behind
to sacrafice self for my family, my country, so there won't be any bind
I am an American Eagle a guardian of America's nest
I am a worrior and I am an American Soldier ready for any test.

I am an Active American Soldier serving my country today.

American Girls and American Guys
Wll always stand up and salute
>Wll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head
My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.
Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue
Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way
Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty

American Flag

i've had mixed feelings
about the American flag
ever since they lowered it
for President Kennedy...
it took a beating during
the civil rights movement.
and then there was Vietnam,
all the atrocities, the lies,
the wasted deaths...
the marches, the protests,
the Kent State killings...
and the flag was burned
in anger, and i understood
the anger
and now the corporate takeover,
the loss of human rights,
the loss of dignity, and hope
how many deaths does it take?
JFK, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King
forty thousand plus in Vietnam
how many in the lying oil wars
in Iraq and Afghanistan?
how many homeless and jobless
does it take?
how many migrant workers treated
like animals?
how many old people have to lose
the benefits they've worked for?

and i think back to my old hero,
Thomas Jefferson what would he say?
maybe something like this:
'the real American flag isnt made of cloth,
it's drawn on the backs of the American workers.
male and female of all races and religions,
the people that built this country
the heart blood of this country.
when you put these people down
with your greed, your lies, your apathy
then you lower the flag.
and it can never be raised again
till all Americans walk heads up together
with hope till all have an equal opportunity
to live and be in freedom
until such day you have no flag! '

What then is the American, this new man? He is either an European, or the descendant of an European, hence that strange misture of blood, which you will find in no other country. I could point out to you a family whose grandfather was an Englishman, whose wife was Dutch, whose son married a French woman, and whose present four sons have now four wives of different nations. He is an American.

American Soldier

American Soldier

When I say... 'I am an American Soldier'

I'm not shouting I'm better than you.

I'm whispering, I was a boy, and now

find myself a man.

When I say... 'I am an American

Soldier'

I speak not only of this with pride

I'm also confessing that I stumble,

make mistakes,

And need competent leadership to

help guide me,

So I in turn,

can be a competent leader.

When I say... 'I am an American

Soldier'

I'm not trying to be strong,

I'm professing that I am weak and

need the strength of my peers and

country,

To help carry me on.

When I say... 'I am an American

Soldier'

I'm not bragging of past successes

I'm admitting I have failed in the past

Admitted the mistakes and tried to

right the wrongs.

When I say... 'I am an American

Soldier'

I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible

But my country needs me,

and I soldier on.

When I say... 'I am an American

Soldier'

I can still feel the sting of pain, from

seeing those that I care about die,

While we fight for those that we love.

I have my share of heartaches,

So I call upon the American People to

help guide our soldiers, when home

When I say... 'I am an American

Soldier'

I'm not better than thou,

I'm just a simple man,

Who was called upon by his country

to fight.

Young American

They pulled in just behind the fridge
He lays her down, he frowns
"Gee my life's a funny thing, am I still too young?"
He kissed her then and there
She took his ring, took his babies
It took him minutes, took her nowhere
Heaven knows, she'd have taken anything, but
All night
She wants the young American
Young American, young American, she wants the young American
All right
She wants the young American
Scanning life through the picture windows
She finds the slinky vagabond
He coughs as he passes her Ford Mustang, but
Heaven forbid, she'll take anything
But the freak, and his type, all for nothing
He misses a step and cuts his hand, but
Showing nothing, he swoops like a song
She cries "Where have all Papa's heroes gone?"
All night
She wants the young American
Young American, young American, she wants the young American
All right
She wants the young American
All the way from Washington
Her bread-winner begs off the bathroom floor
"We live for just these twenty years
Do we have to die for the fifty more?"
All night
He wants the young American
Young American, young American, he wants the young American
All right
He wants the young American
Do you remember, your President Nixon?
Do you remember, the bills you have to pay
Or even yesterday
Have you been an un-American?
Just you and your idol singing falsetto 'bout
Leather, leather everywhere, and
Not a myth left from the ghetto
Well, well, well, would you carry a razor
In case, just in case of depression
Sit on your hands on a bus of survivors
Blushing at all the afro-Sheilas
Ain't that close to love?
Well, ain't that poster love?
Well, it ain't that Barbie doll
Her heart's been broken just like you have
And
All night
You want the young American
Young American, young American, you want the young American
All right
You want the young American
You ain't a pimp and you ain't a hustler
A pimp's got a Cadi and a lady got a Chrysler
Black's got respect, and white's got his soul train
Mama's got cramps, and look at your hands ache
I heard the news today, oh boy
I got a suite and you got defeat
Ain't there a man you can say no more?
And, ain't there a woman I can sock on the jaw?
And, ain't there a child I can hold without judging?
Ain't there a pen that will write before they die?
Ain't you proud that you've still got faces?
Ain't there one damn song that can make me
break down and cry?
All night
I want the young American
Young American, young American, I want the young American
All right
I want the young American
Young American
Young American, young American, I want the young American
(I want with you, I want with you want)
All right
(You want it, I want you you, you want I, I want you want)
Young American, young American, I want the young American (I want to want, to want, to want , to want I, I want you)
All right
(Lord I wanted the young american)
(young american)
Young American, Young American
I want the young American

Gertrude Stein is interviewed on American poetry

and there was the knocking on the door
that we were expecting
and it was the man
that we were expecting
with the questions we were expecting
to which answers were expected
by those who expect answers
as if life were like that
which for writers it is not

yes, tea was drunk
and after tea the tape recorder set up
so that what I said
I would continue to say
somewhere else
even when I changed my mind
here and nowhere else

and he said Ms Stein
what do you think of American poetry
and we said well it's American
and it's poetry
that's as it should be
and really that's all there is to say
and the man looked disappointed
so we asked him did he read poetry
and he said poetry no I dont read poetry
but my editor does
so I said it's really about Americans
living their lives
that's what American poetry is really about
because Americans move around
and so their words move around and
words in English have lost their intensity
but American words are always on the move
and they are more intense
yes, Americans living among Americans
and talking to their neighbours
if it's not about that
it's not really American poetry at all is it
if it's not about that
then why bother writing poetry

and the man was asking about a rose
being a rose being a rose and we said
for a hundred years the rose
has not been red in poetry
but now for the first time in a hundred years
the rose is red again

and the man looked at his watch
and said thank you Ms Stein
and was switching off his tape recorder

and a month later that
was what we said
in a magazine much read
by Americans who mostly
are not poets no very few but we said it
we know that this is so
because we read it there
and we think that really
that was all there was to say
because that was all we think
is really important
about American Poetry
that the words move like Americans move
and that is exciting for a writer
and that is the important thing about
American Poetry

American Soldier

I'm just trying to be a father,
Raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother,
Everything to everyone.
Up and at 'em bright and early,
I'm all in my business suit,
Yeah, I'm dressed for success from my head down to my boots,
I don't do it for money, there's still bills that I can't pay,
I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,
Providing for our future's my responsibility,
Yeah I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be,
And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been to strong,
I just work straight through the holidays,
And sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core,
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrafice,
Oh, and I don't want to die for you,
But if dyin's asked of me,
I'll bear that cross with an honor,
'Cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an american soldier, an american,
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right,
an American,
An American,
An American Soldier
