Sienna Miller

I think American men are more conscious of putting up a good impression. There's more of an earthiness to Englishmen. But Americans aren't afraid to come up and say, 'Hi, I'd like to go out with you.' Englishmen are far more sheepish about it.

Gertrude Stein is interviewed on American poetry

and there was the knocking on the door
that we were expecting
and it was the man
that we were expecting
with the questions we were expecting
to which answers were expected
by those who expect answers
as if life were like that
which for writers it is not

yes, tea was drunk
and after tea the tape recorder set up
so that what I said
I would continue to say
somewhere else
even when I changed my mind
here and nowhere else

and he said Ms Stein
what do you think of American poetry
and we said well it's American
and it's poetry
that's as it should be
and really that's all there is to say
and the man looked disappointed
so we asked him did he read poetry
and he said poetry no I dont read poetry
but my editor does
so I said it's really about Americans
living their lives
that's what American poetry is really about
because Americans move around
and so their words move around and
words in English have lost their intensity
but American words are always on the move
and they are more intense
yes, Americans living among Americans
and talking to their neighbours
if it's not about that
it's not really American poetry at all is it
if it's not about that
then why bother writing poetry

and the man was asking about a rose
being a rose being a rose and we said
for a hundred years the rose
has not been red in poetry
but now for the first time in a hundred years
the rose is red again

and the man looked at his watch
and said thank you Ms Stein
and was switching off his tape recorder

and a month later that
was what we said
in a magazine much read
by Americans who mostly
are not poets no very few but we said it
we know that this is so
because we read it there
and we think that really
that was all there was to say
because that was all we think
is really important
about American Poetry
that the words move like Americans move
and that is exciting for a writer
and that is the important thing about
American Poetry

Thats My Impression

(tennant/lowe)
------------
I went looking for someone I couldnt find
Staring at faces by the serpentine
Walking slowly, I realised
Youd been and gone - I know you lied
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
The wind was chilly and the sky was dull
I went for shelter to the temple
Once inside I couldnt believe my eyes
Youd been and gone - I know you lied
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Go to a club - you think Ill be there
I dont go cause Im not a member
You said you went to apologise
Its plain to me thats one more lie
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression (impression)
Thats my impression
I went looking for someone I couldnt find
Staring at faces by the serpentine
Walking slowly, I realised
Youd been and gone - I know you lied
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Thats my impression
Its an expression
And a suggestion
I learned my lesson
Thats my impression
Thats my impression (impression)
Thats my impression
Thats my impression (impression)
I learned my lesson
I went looking for someone I couldnt find
Staring at faces by the serpentine
Walking slowly I - realised
Youd been and gone - I know
You lied - thats my impression
I know you lied
And thats my impression
Thats my impression
My impression
Thats my impression

It is, I think, an indisputable fact that Americans are, as Americans, the most self- conscious people in the world, and the most addicted to the belief that the other nations are in a conspiracy to under-value them.

The revelations of great men

If you do something good in return,
You aren’t good; you settled a due.

If you do something good intently,
You aren’t good; you simply invested.

If you ask pardon for a fevour,
You aren’t great; it’s a strategy.

If you give pardon to one mightier,
You aren’t great with no alternatives.

If you speak truth when comfortable
And be honest when convenient

You cannot boast of yourself as great
As any mean one could do them at ease.

You aren’t great being just in matters
Where being otherwise of no advantage.

You aren’t great with the veil you’ve made
Of good deeds to hide the ill gotten.

You aren’t great with philanthropy
From the undue or unfair wealth got.

But for few, all great men may forgive me
For the revelations made of them.

Fundamental of Liar Chapter XCVI: Fear

I don’t afraid of being old, I’m only afraid of being weak
I don’t afraid of being ugly, I’m only afraid of being useless
I don’t afraid of being nameless, I’m only afraid of being not loved
I don’t afraid of being lost, I’m only afraid of being blind
I don’t afraid of being dumb, I’m only afraid of being hopeless
I don’t afraid of being poor, I’m only afraid of being ungrateful
I don’t afraid of being loser, I’m only afraid of being coward
I don’t afraid of being bound, I’m only afraid of being fake
I don’t afraid of being wrong, I’m only afraid of being oblivious
I don’t afraid of being suffered, I’m only afraid of being surrender
I don’t afraid of being alone, I’m only afraid of being bored
I don't afraid of being loss, I'm only afraid of being lied

It Is Not

Conscious of structure.
Conscious of order, law and discipline.
Conscious of those to whom is given respect.
Conscious of tradition and ideals...
And the effect this has on one's mindset.

Conscious of a faith that goes much deeper,
Than the faking of an acceptance of rituals.

Conscious of life,
And the limits of it lived.
Conscious are those,
Who are aware that this life...
Is much more than it is perceived,
It is!
Since it is not what we have been led to believe.
And a consciousness of those conscious of this,
Is what has been received.

Well, I'm telling them two things. One is that, look, this is going to be something when the American people realize - once it's passed - that, A, it does take care of preexisting conditions; B, you're insurance rates aren't going to skyrocket; C, the insurance companies aren't going to be running the show like they were before; D, you're going to be in a position where you can keep your insurance that you have. That once the American public realizes that, you're going to get a reward for this. They're going to be rewarded.

Darling, Im afraid to close my eyes when Im going to bed
Im afraid youll crack the phone down over my head
Why are all american girls so rough?
Damn, that girl cant ever hurt you enough
Lady (lady), you knock me on my knees and I cant stand up
You got the look in your eye and you smack my butt
Why are all american girls so rough?
Why do all american girls act so tough?
