Really, I think that going out and playing with your friends is kind of becoming a lost art, with the kids in the neighborhood.

Rainy day...

Rainy day
Cool evening
Porch sitting
Unusual for mid August.
Where is the usual summer evening traffic?
My thoughts drift
into my childhood past.
They come up blank
and I simply do not recall
what I did on summer evenings like this.
I just remember –
the smell of freshly cut grass
the catching of lightening bugs
devouring Good Humor ice cream
friends trying to invite themselves
into my backyard pool
playing a game called “Murder In The Dark”
in the backyard of the house across the street
when the sun went down.
I wonder
what summer evening games
the kids in my old neighborhood play now.
I wonder where
the kids I played with are now.
Should I visit the old neighborhood,
will I find our childhood spirits
still running around the streets?

I grew up playing war. We threw dirt and rocks at each other. We'd lead attacks. We'd break up into squads. It became a neighborhood thing for a while, our neighborhood against the other neighborhood. There was always a war breaking out somewhere.

Spontaniety

the kids have it
their ways too easy
on this play, one's offense
so easily forgiven

when they are new
they do not need much time
to befriend their own kind

they do not ask for names
when they meet they become attuned
to their feelings
and the all become one gang
of friends in the neighborhood

there are quarrels and petty
as they seem to be
but they do not fight wars
for that long

peace perhaps shall reign
when we become children again

The Guys You Like

I'm not the kind of guy,
You say you like.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.

I'm not the one to run,
Jump through hoops.
Or fly 'your' kite.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.

I'm the dude true to who I am.
I'm that one who is a self made man.
I am that one who is there for you...
When ever bravery calls to take a stand.
And you wont have to wonder...
When lightening strikes and thunder roars,
What kind of man I am!

I'm not the kind who sneaks to cheat.
Or brag about kids laid under different sheets.
I do what's right,
Day end and night.
Doing what I should!
And that's not the kind of guy you like.
You like the kind who promises to do you good.
The ones who fuss and fight.
Waking up the neighborhood.
To leave you after feeding his sexual appetite.

I'm not the kind of guy you say you like.
You like the kind of guys who lie.
And I'll never fit that picture fantasized in your eyes.
The b-boys, criminals who deceive all their lives.

Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Are

As a 'precocious' child,
And extremely curious...
The playing of hide and seek,
Was fun until it wasn't.
Yes...
I use to peek to see,
Where the others would hide first...
Before I found a place impossible,
To be found.
Then I would leave the neighborhood,
To walk around and adventure.

And when I returned,
Those same kids would be hiding.
To be sought.

Today?
Those same 'kids' are hiding,
To be sought.
And there is something about that,
I no longer find amusing.

Come out, come out wherever you are.
Your children have become crazed.

Neighborhood

Heres a photo Ive been looking for
Its a picture of thee boy next door
And I loved him more than words could say
Never knew it til he moved away
Faded pictures in my scrapbook
Just thought Id take one more look
And recall when we were all
In the neighborhood
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Heres a photo of the neighborhood
Heres the corner where we stood
Heres a snapshot of dads old car
Never got us very far
Faded pictures in my scrapbook
Just thought Id take one more look
And recall when we were all
In the neighborhood
And all those friends
Where did they go, I dont know
All those friends we used to know
In the neighborhood

When we were Kids

Remember how we were best friends when we were kids?
We slept over each others’ house, we were two pea in a pod when were kids.
You were my brother and I yours when we were kids.
But now that has all changed we don’t go near one another’s house.
And that pea pod has rotten.
Now as for brothers these days were not even distant cousins.
We were once best friends now we treat each other like enemies all because of the color of our skin.
I miss you as a friend and that is why I wish color did not matter like when we were kids.

The Kids Aren't Allright

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat
Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives
Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot
Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality

Like A Lost Lamb..

LIKE MY FRIENDS AND OTHER KIDS......
I AM AFRAID MUM............
EVERYTHING IS WRONG
I AM NOT SO STRONG
SHALL I ADVENTURE AND GO?
SHALL I FOLLOW THEIR PATH?
PROTECT ME FROM TEMPTATION
I HAVE NO IMAGINATION
I CAN'T HAVE ANY OCCUPATION....
HOW SHALL I GET OUT OF FRUSTRATION?
I NEED YOUR LOVE AND AFFECTION MUM....
I AM LOST LIKE A LAMB............
LIKE SOMEONE DUMB...
I AM LOOKING FOR A MUM.
I AM LOOKING FOR DREAMS
I AM SEEKING MY WAY........
I AM SEARCHING MYSELF AMONG THE CROWD
WHAT CAN I DO TO UNDERSTAND?
GIVE ME A HAND MUM.
GIVE ME A HAND DAD..........
I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT...
THE WORLD IS NOT WHAT YOU TAUGHT ME..........
THE WORLD IS NOT WHAT YOU TOLD ME...
I AM SO LONELY.......I FEEL SO BAD..
I FEEL SO SAD MUM.........I FEEL SO SAD DAD...........
SHALL I MAKE TO MY LIFE AN END?
LIKE MY FRIENDS AND OTHER KIDS?
LIKE A LOST LAMB...........................

Here's the thing - I'm single, I haven't been married, I don't have kids yet. If I do have kids I would be interested to see them in my life, so here's a movie for kids and I'm in there and I'm supposed to be kind of funny for kids.

Couldn't See The Wood For The Trees

I now know we're not best friends anymore
Tonight you proved it
Showing your selfish side
Yet again

No room for me
I guess it's time to see
What was right in front of my eyes
The respect you never gave me
The respect you never had

And you never gave it
For far too long
I couldn't give a shit
Best Friends
Yeah?
Do Best Friends
Not know what's legit

And i've lost all sense of feeling
For you
I know with you i'm out of site
Out of mind
An i've lost all sense of feeling
I always knew you we're one of a kind
One of a kind
That i don't want to know anymore

Poem: 'Self-Abandonment

- 9. May.2006 -

The kids at school were mean to her
They called her nasty names
The kids at school abandoned her
Left her out of all their games
The kids at school hurt her badly
With each word that cruelly spoke
The kids at school were so unloving
As they slowly stole her hope
The kids at school were never kind
They put her through unspeakable hell
The kids at school gave up on her
So she gave up on herself…

Thank God For Kids

If it weren't for kids have you ever thought
There wouldn't be no Santa Clause
Look what the store just brought
Thank God for Kids
We'd all live in a quiet house
Without Big Bird or a Mickey Mouse
And Kool-aid on the couch
Thank God for Kids
Thank God for kids there's magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think? or wonder why?
The dearest thing to Heaven is a child
Daddy how does this thing fly?
A hundred other where's and why's
You really don't know but we try
Thank God for Kids
When you look down in those trustin eyes
That look to you, you realize
Its love that you can't buy
Thank God for Kids
Thank God for there's magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think? or wonder why?
The dearest thing to Heaven is a child
When you get down on your knees tonight
To thank the Lord for his guiding light
And pray they turn out right
Thank God for Kids

The Big Kid and the Tall Tale

The big kid stood
by the garden shed
with others kids and you
the horticultural teacher

was down by the beds
with some other kids
whom he was showing
how to dig

and the big kid said
I had her
back there
up in those woods

at the end
of the playing field
the other kids
moved in closer

to get a better grip
on the tale told
you stood on
the perimeter

of the crowd
one eye
on the big kid
the other on the teacher

bent over a kid
showing him how
to hold a spade
and you know what?

the big kid said
she was some goer
the other kids
looked at him

then at each other
some plump kid
with spots laughed
you looked over

towards the woods
by the playing field
a quaint woodland
over by the fence

and near the road
and you know
what it's like? Huh?
the big kid said

the kids nodded
you noticed
their eyes large
and their tongues

at the corner
of mouths
it was like slipping
into a warm bed

the big kid said
on a cold night
the teacher made
his way towards

you and the kids
by the shed
the big kid
made gestures

with his hand
and the boys sniggered
half catching on
to the gesture's tale

the big kid's hands
went into pockets
out of sight
the other kids

moved towards
the teacher's
calling voice
you followed

unwillingly
having little choice.

Not That Kind Of Girl

Im not that kind of girl who thinks I can change the world
With just a simple twirl of my hair
Ill never break your heart, tear your soul apart
With just a simple spark from my stare
Wont go playing with your insides
Take your wallet for its big size
Wont be suckered in by those foolish games
1:

Oh, oh, Im not that kind of girl
Oh, oh, Im not that kind of girl
Oh, oh, Im not that kind of girl
Oh, oh, Im not that kind of girl
Im not that of girl who think you can rule my world
With just a simple wave of your hand
So dont you push me down, or start to play around
Cause when you see me frown, just beware
Dont go playing with my insides
Tell me stories, tell me big lies
Wont be taken in by those silly games
Repeat 1

Come on, come on
Yo, tell me vc, what kind of girl are you?
Let me know
Im not the kind of girl to make you lose your mind
I wanna be the kind of girl youll never leave behind
Youre gonna take it, never fake it, you know youll see
That Im just the kind of girl I always wanted to be
Im not that kind of girl, Im not that kind of girl
Im not that kind of girl
I like your kind of girl, I like that kind of girl
I like your kind of girl
Im not that kind of girl
I like your kind of girl, I like all kinds of girls
I like your kind of girl
Im not that kind of girl
