I Scold Myself
Whilst I'm asleep I have no control
and I awake in anxious sweats.
I scold myself in my thoughts,
which causing me nothing but stress.
I don't know why I punish myself,
in reality I've done nothing wrong.
This only happens when I'm asleep,
but it does happen all night long.
It's not as though my mind is troubled,
and my conscience is entirely free.
It's got so that I hate retiring for the night
because I know what waits for me.
I cannot blank out my unconscious thoughts,
they're like nightmares that won't go away.
I desperately need a good night's sleep
so I can stay awake throughout the day.

Getting Through
School, school, the golden rule.
It can be tough, it can be cruel.
Sometimes I like it,
Sometimes I hate it.
Playing with friends is great fun,
but it's a bummer when there's homework to be done.
Every once in a while I fall asleep,
but then there are consequences I must reap.
So I must stay awake and focus hard,
or from school I will be barred.
If I pass this grade that I am in,
then next year, another grade I will begin.

Awake mother Africa, awake
For you lie asleep for long
Your future is in the balance
And your dignity fades away with the passing of the days
Your children are blindfolded
And we trail destruction in ignorance
Each day, Mother Africa;
A layer of your beautiful clothing is molted away

Dreams exist when you are awake
