On Irish Politics And Politicians
Politics in the Republic of Ireland with any joy I can't recall
Nepotism rife in the ranks of the three major parties Labour, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail
Jobs for their kin and their mates only Irish Politicians in their ways so small
In Politics since my time in Ireland suppose things would not have changed much at all
I was never a member of any Irish Political Party to me they seemed a very flawed lot
The way they conducted their business I certainly haven't forgot
Any one party not cleaner than the other honest politicians anywhere hard to be found
I recall amongst Irish Politicians that nepotism did abound
They grew old and retired on their big pensions they took care of themselves and their own
Honesty and fairness with them not a high priority the most of them for such not known
When they spoke of doing good for the Country they did not mean what they did say
They only helped their families, friends and relations respect to them I could not pay
There were a few honourable Irish Politicians just a few that I can recall
But honesty does not survive well amongst Politicians they are a flawed lot overall.

Statesmanship is harder than politics. Politics is the art of getting along with people, whereas statesmanship is the art of getting along with politicians.

Most politicians - those people who live, eat and breathe politics - like to sit around and talk about politics and tell political war stories. Reagan didn't do that. His war stories were movie war stories and Hollywood war stories. He loved that.

Loving You
loving you
i shall rejoice
clapping with
one hand
you ask me
if i can fly
using my left wing
you make a
conclusion:
this matter is impossible.

Politics is not predictions and politics is not observations. Politics is what we do. Politics is what we do, politics is what we create, by what we work for, by what we hope for and what we dare to imagine.

I've been worked over by the English press because there's an assumption that my politics are identical with my wife's, and for that matter that my wife's politics are identical with her politics of 20 years ago.

Boys never see a conclusion; only on the edge of the grave can man conclude anything; but the first impulse given to the boy is apt to lead or drive him for the rest of his life into conclusion after conclusion that he never dreamed of reaching.

It is not so much that women have a different point of view in politics as that they give a different emphasis. And this is vastly important, for politics is so largely a matter of emphasis.

Just Too Much
A discussion of politics and I fall asleep, voices
droning about boring facts - after I had my say
about Greece and destitute refugees in the Cote
d’Ivoire, we watch another documentary about
solar power to save us from nuclear disaster
I black out, a solicitous colleague shakes me awake
I wriggle in my seat; next week, our enthusiastic
teacher says, each must do a speech on South
African politics discussing the party of their choice
in detail – I give up, resigned I decide
I cannot attend this class, I shall completely lose
my mind in the boredom of this, will have to flee
the subject of politics as it drives me insane, the
stink of inefficient states and the self-serving
politicians defrauding their own people
Is just too much…

Yes, we have to divide up our time like that, between our politics and our equations. But to me our equations are far more important, for politics are only a matter of present concern. A mathematical equation stands forever.

Party Bound Politicians July 4th,2012
PARTY BOUND POLITICIANS July 4th,2012
By
James Bredin
Our Canadian politicians are reluctant to change,
If they do they will be immediately told that this is strange,
They are party politicians and not allowed an independent thought,
They have to follow the party line and not be distraught.
Canada should have a system where they have some independence,
And not march in step, completely party bound in their dependence,
We should have proportional representation for those who should vote,
And compulsory votes or added tax so all constituents take note.
Party politics is in many ways like a religious belief,
Those who change are treated as sacrilegious with great grief,
Those who want death with dignity are looked at as pagans or worse,
Supreme Court decisions here will not allow for anything diverse.

Our Democracy
We don't have binding referendums or judicial reviews,
No plebiscites, proportional representation but who knew?
No set-date elections, recall or compulsory voting rules,
Not even elected senators mentioned in any of our schools.
We are not allowed death with dignity no matter how sick,
No matter what religion you are - Protestant or Mick,
And what happened to Sue Rodriguez, could happen to you,
Just about the time you're ready to die and say adieu.
Canadian politicians like all politicians dread recall,
Whether it's federal, provincial or even city hall,
Their party is more important than their constituents,
But this is seldom if ever very mentioned though continuous.

None of That Sweet Mess
Hey, hey, hey...
Wait one minute.
IF you are going to quote me,
Do not do it out of context.
I did not call everyone in politics a moron.
Nor did I say all of the local politicians,
Were corrupted and half of them are crooks.
What I said was this...
Idiots shouldn't be in politics.
And lowlife thieves...
Who can't put two sentences together,
Or spell their names without assistance...
Should be banned from the process.
And relatives of fools should not be qualified to vote.
That's what I said.
Nothing makes me more angry than someone attempting,
To add sugar on what I like to serve.
AND what's on today's menu.
And today's dishes require salt and vinegar to satisfy.
None of that sweet mess on my...ssshhh...'STUFF'.

I am Soldier
I joined the army to be Macias
Against Pride in the hydrogen
Bomb third world war
This is my last answer to any one
Who ask why I am a soldier not peasant.
I am a soldier with a course
If you want to know the cause
Sneak in anywhere in the world
Pick a peddle and discover the course
This is my first answer to why I am a soldier not peasant
My feet not touching soil is
My advantage over peasants because peasants
Are platforms whereby the politicians
Stand and talk politics and soldiers
Stand on politicians’ shoulders and shoot.
