The soul is so far from being a monad that we have not only to interpret other souls to ourself but to interpret ourself to ourself.

There are no contests in the Art of Peace. A true warrior is invincible because he or she contests with nothing. Defeat means to defeat the mind of contention that we harbor within.

While not widely reported, our victories in Iraq are plentiful. National elections, a democratic parliament and the drafting of a constitution are just some of the victories throughout this embattled country.

I like to think of my best moment on the job as quiet victories. Victories over what Over the system, over the various bureaucracies not watching me, over my colleagues' indifference, over my patron's ignorance, over the very concept of horn-blowing pride.

Unicorn 11
Where the unlimited, expanding, limiting itself as it expands,
reaches where it can limit itself no further –
there it is; there in its, our, world; there you may see it;
where it could not be more beautiful
and yet be seen; where it could have
no other form, and still have form;
where it is most itself.
And so, where we are most ourself,
when we are most ourself, it’s there;
near; you may see it; you may not; near;
you and it, so close; and where
we are where all the stories tell –
the gate, the door, the mirror, the key that calls the hand,
the undergrowth pushed through, and there –
in the clearing in the woods, it is;
treading on the silent mossy ground,
can white be so transparent?
waiting for nothing and yet there;
where the limited meets the unlimited,
where we know
that whom we always knew we are,
unlimited;
Unicorn.

One need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.
Far safer, of a midnight meeting
External ghost,
Than an interior confronting
That whiter host.
Far safer through an Abbey gallop,
The stones achase,
Than, moonless, one's own self encounter
In lonesome place.
Ourself, behind ourself concealed,
Should startle most;
Assassin, hid in our apartment,
Be horror's least.
The prudent carries a revolver,
He bolts the door,
O'erlooking a superior spectre
More near.

Faith In Something Bigger
It may be warm but the snow is going to fall,
It may be warm but the snow is going to fall,
Enough to cover us all.
Enough to cover us all.
Weve gotta be strong men and follow a path again.
Weve gotta be strong men and follow a path again.
Weve got to have faith in something bigger,
Weve got to have faith in something bigger,
Faith in something bigger,
Faith in something bigger,
Faith in something big inside ourself.
Faith in something big inside ourself.
It might be cold but the heat of our love will melt,
It might be cold but the heat of our love will melt,
The snow we never felt.
The snow we never felt.
Were young and hardy again, we bow to weaker men.
Were young and hardy again, we bow to weaker men.
Weve got to have faith in something bigger,
Weve got to have faith in something bigger,
Faith in something bigger,
Faith in something bigger,
Faith in something big inside ourself.
Faith in something big inside ourself.
The more we learn, the less we believe to be true.
The more we learn, the less we believe to be true.
The more we prove, the more remains to be proved.
The more we prove, the more remains to be proved.
Weve gotta be strong men and follow a path again.
Weve gotta be strong men and follow a path again.
Weve got to have faith in something bigger,
Weve got to have faith in something bigger,
Faith in something bigger,
Faith in something bigger,
Faith in something big inside ourself, inside ourself.
Faith in something big inside ourself, inside ourself.

Unicorn 8
In the deepening dusk of forest glade,
in the mist of clouds rolling over the high hills,
in the sea-fog rolling in at turn of tide,
what feature of its form alerts us first
that it’s so present, now, and here?
That spiralled horn – why is it that we know
that’s where it should be seen,
that place upon our forehead we can feel ourselves?
The unicorn within us knows –
when attention spirals to a fine, fine point
and thought is stilled; that’s when
our single-pointed horn calls presence to its purest form,
its purest place, within ourself;
ourself; unicorn.

Little Victories
Words and music by bob seger
When your baby up and leaves you
Up and leaves you flat
Dont you laugh my friend sometimes it happens just like that
First you feel the anger then the sorrow will soon take control
And therell be hard times for sure
Long cold lonely nights
It might not sound like much
But itll mean a lot youll see
Every hour you survive will come to be
A little victory
Little victory
As you struggle through each day
Each strange new day
Feelin lost and wounded tryin hard to find your way
No one there to talk it out with
Learnin how to sleep alone
Overcomin each new doubt
Tryin hard just to accept it all
Everytime you keep control when youre cut off at the knees
Everytime you take a punch and still stand at ease
Little victories
Little victories
And when night falls and theres no one around
The cruelest time of all and not one sound
Listenin to the wind blow
Listenin to the tickin of the clock
Tryin hard to forget
Tryin hard to just accept it all
As you step out in the night take a lesson from the trees
Watch the way they learn to bend with each breeze
Little victories
Everytime you make it through
Its another little victory
Day by day minute by minute
Little victories
