At the Boxing match
Sat at the ringside
as the boxers
entered the ring.
One in the blue corner
the other in the red
referee in his white shirt.
Then the bell goes
for the first round
both boxers move about.
Blue shorts punches first
then red shorts returns
with two big body shots
blue shorts winces in pain.
Both fighters slug it out
for another ten rounds
the crowd around me
are up on their feet.
The bell ends the battle
red shorts thinks he's won
but blue shorts gets his arm
raised by white shirt.
The pugilists hug each other
and there's no hard feelings
just fighters doing their job.

I Hope That I Get Old Before I Die
Sometimes I feel like being wispy
And once in a while I feel like being dry
But were doomed and were drowned by this feeling we surround
So I hope that I get old before I die
Ohhhhh
Its a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasnt happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that Ill be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die
Clear off the kitchen table darling
For on the kitchen table I must lie
Im just tired for my wife just served the banquet of my life
And I hope that I get old before I die
Ohhhhh
Its a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasnt happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that Ill be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die
Ohhhhh
Its a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasnt happened
Why why why

Shrinking
Have you ever had that feeling
you are growing,
or is it your clothes are shrinking?
You know when your trouser bottoms
start creeping up to your knees,
or your shirt sleeves
start climbing up to your elbows,
or your waistline begins to grow,
but your belt hangs loose,
or your chest is expanding
because the buttons keep popping of your shirt.
Oh yea, I know that feeling ever so well
as it happens to me all the time
just after my wife does the washing.
She follows the instructions to the letter,
but still they begin to shrink.
Nothing is unshrinkable when she goes to wash,
except once.
There always has to be one exception.
I had a nice towelin shirt
and when she had finished with it,
the shirt touched my knees
and looked like I was wearing a skirt.
Here I am six foot three,
yet my clothes will fit someone three feet three
and a lot thinner than me.
Now I am at my wits end wondering just what to do.
It feels like playing Russian roulette
when the next wash begins.

The Shirt
The buttonholes were empty.
The buttons had all let go.
The shirt was now a remnant,
one he did outgrow.
The sleeves were short so he rolled them.
The plaid material was faded.
Now it was getting much too tight
as he saw his name brocaded.
The name was what she called him,
'Sonny, sonny boy.'
Her voice came back when he wore it.
It was a sound of joy.
He would have to give up wearing it
and pray that she would know
that no other shirt he'd ever wear
were what her hands did sew.
Mom. dear mom you come alive
everytime I see that shirt.
It helps me when I'm missing you.
It takes away the hurt.
Every other shirt that I have worn
could never quite replace
the feeling I get when I see it
for I see your loving face.

And I was victim to that very early in my career, where I would go into auditions, and I'd be wearing a big T shirt, a big baggy T shirt and loose jeans. You know, to try and show people that there was more to me than just that.

Pink
Pink is the new Black.
Salmon shirt for your office, goes well this season with that tie.
Father's Day gift from Macy's or did you find out from GQ.
No, it was your wife who told you.
It doesn't matter, we laugh at you all the same for wearing Pink.

Wearing A Shirt
It is better to wear a shirt to protect your happiness,
The wearing of an item of clothing like this one is immense.
We stagger and wait more than others, wearing shirts and trousers,
Still this happened a long time ago, once when the sea opened.
The land was for joyous fuelling, readying with swords and weapons,
By the way, it was clothing on the way home.
It was bitter so much like sour fruit, inside was a yearning,
Too late was the bereavement of a shirt.
The immense puzzle was solved on the way home,
A vehicle stuns us amazingly in the worst possible touch.

I Believe
When I was young and full of grace
And spirited--a rattlesnake.
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
Youre on your honor not to tell
I believe in coyotes and time as an abstract
Explain the change, the difference between
What you want and what you need, theres the key,
Your adventure for today, what do you do
Between the horns of the day?
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in
When I was young and give and take
And foolish said my fool awake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
Youre on your honor, on your honor
Trust in your calling, make sure your callings true
Think of others, the others think of you
Silly rule golden words make, practice practice makes perfect,
Perfect is a fault, in fault lies change
I believe my humors wearing thin
And change is what I believe in
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in
When I was young and full of grace
As spirited a rattlesnake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
Youre on your honor not to tell
I believe in example
I believe my throat hurts
Example is the checker to the key
I believe my humors wearing thin
And I believe the poles are shifting
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

Now That Youre Gone
(bernard edwards/nile rodgers)
My nights grow long
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
Im living my life all alone
Or hit by a blow
To my pride
But Im doing ok
I wont let you see
What this has done to me
I guess Ill just take it in stride
Come what may
My nights grow long
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
How can one do what should be done by two
I guess thats a crazy question to ask
I might seem happy
But dont be fooled by my appearance
Make no mistake
Im just wearing a mask
My nights grow long
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long
My nights grow long
Now that youre gone
My nights grow long

People are broad-minded. They'll accept the fact that a person can be an alcoholic, a dope fiend, a wife beater and even a newspaperman, but if a man doesn't drive, there's something wrong with him.

On Her Mind
She's wearing the tee-shirt
of a band I really like
maybe that's coincidence
maybe that's alright
I keep thinking about the way
she said "I'll see you soon"
was it more than words?
I'm just tryin' to find
what's on her mind?
I don't know when I'll see her
but I'm sure that I will
its just another matter of time
some more time to kill
I can imagine so many things
her and I sometime in the spring
...something's happening
I'm just tryin' to find
what's on her mind?
[CHORUS:]
(I want peace but I don't make it
I want love but I don't give it
i want hope but I can't find it
and I want her to heal me)
she's wearing the tee-shirt
of my favorite band
I should've told her
that I was a fan
people say I should just leave it be
leave it up to destiny
but that ain't for me
I'm just trying to find
what's on her mind?
[CHORUS and outros]

Loving Is The Only Heaven
You pad across
the white tile floor
almost animal
your beauty
something only you
could tame
I have to raise my arm against it
as you come out of the sun
wearing only my white silk shirt
blown gracefully
against your curves
the shirt billowing behind you
as if
you were an angel
with folded wings
each step
a thing of wonder
lost in thought
as if you had taken – a wrong turning
& seemed surprised to be
here
stranded
kissing this human
who seems to know
that loving
is the only Heaven.

Jimmy Sharmans Boxers
From the red dust north of dalmore downs
Sharmans tents roll into town
Twelve will face the auctioneer
Sharmans boxers stand their ground
Their days are darker than your nights
But they wont be the first to fall
Children broken from their dreams
But they wont be the first to fall
Fighting in the spotlight
Eyes turn blacker than their skin
For jimmy sharmans boxers
Its no better if you win
Standing in the darkness
Lined up waiting for the bell
The days are wasted drinking
At the first and last hotel
Why are we fighting for this?
Why are you paying for this?
You pay to see me fall like shrapnel
To the floor
What is the reason for this?
There is a reason for this?
What is the reason they keep coming back for more?
The blows now bring him to his knees
But still the crowd calls out for more
The drums are burning in his ears
The man keeps counting out the score

Human Bondage
The echo’s of beatings and abuse
Seeps thru the bedroom walls,
I wear the skin of your life inside me
Festering wounds,
Floating in a sea of abuse.
Why can’t I leave you?
Why am I so weak?
Is it the children?
Am I afraid of making it alone what do I seek?
Jeckal’s of your kind seep in alcohol
To make their life hide
Do I see a glimmer of hope, will you change?
I feel no way; I am a fool’s fool
Living with your unrequited rule.
My love for you was born from the seeds of youth
That died, drowned in tears I’ve shed.
I must heed my families call to leave
Mum down on her knees to beg,
I just know she has experience and insight
Hoping I make it thru another night
To feel the love as I greet her,
And close the door on a wife beater,
Who needs no licence.
I only wish I had a magic wand
To change myself into a Herculean Tyson
With the strength of a wild bison.
Not just for revenge, just to pretend
I could beat the beater.

One Of Those Nights
have you ever had
one of those days
when you wake up feelin' good
so good that you could tae the whole world on
one of those days
when you just know
no matter what
nothin' in the world could go wrong
well thats the way i feel this mornin'
but, baby i just gotta say
i always have one of those days
chorus:
after one of those nights
just like last night
oh my, what a beautiful thing
just you and me
those tangled sheets
were wrapped around us
baby, thanks to your love
it was one of those nights that leads
tright to one of those days that leads
right to one of those nights
have you ever had
one of those smiles
you just cant wipe away
the sweet anticipations too strong
one of those smiles you wear all day
;cause you can taste the kis of passion waitin' back home
well thats the one im wearing right now
but baby you always leave
one of those smiles on me
(repeat chorus)
when everythings perfect
when you want me
you touch me
you move me
(repeat chorus)
Right...
one of those nights that leads
to one of those days that leads
right to one of those nights
one of those nights
when everythings perfect
one of those nights
oh, one of those nights
i need another one of thoe nights baby
another one of those nights

Blotch
I compelled my hand-blotch to be a care
On this soul of mine. So far, my cares
Diminished, as bending was difficult for me
And old tables remained like my skin.
I wore a cardigan that day, and could it be
That my wearing of this item of clothing
Be strict and due to ancient nature,
Or the feature of an old saying
That forbade my age to enter history.
My hands tie meaning with my shirt
Or shall I say cardigan, just the sold one,
The one so forgiving of my age.
Age carries stiches,
I stretch my shirt, or cardigan,
And look at my hands.
