Neighbours
The house across the road, number 104
has new windows and a stained glass door.
It's two months since a young couple moved in
working hard and tirelessly renovating.
I think they're about finished, it looks complete,
and it takes its place with the best on the street.
Yesterday the young man fitted an outside light
to add the finishing touch, and it looks just right.
At bedtime this evening as I was about to get into bed
the drawn bedroom curtains looked unusually red.
I pulled them aside and to my complete surprise
a red light shone bright before my eyes.
The next day I could no longer suffer in silence,
so asked my neighbour if he knew of its significance.
Fortunately he didn't and quickly replaced the bulb of red,
leaving all the street to sleep much happier in bed.
