Imagination

Like Alice through the looking glass
my study window reveals fantasies to me.
The changing seasons come and go
with strangers rushing to and fro,
yet I remain steadfast through all
to watch and listen as the seasons
come and linger for a while outside.
I am no prisoner being watchful from a cell,
just a person by a window sits
and dreams of many lives to lead
much more adventurous than my own.
From cowboy to astronaut,
I am who I want to be.
My adventures can be in the past
and far into the future be
or wherever my imagination
wants to transport me.
I can be whatever it chooses,
from a man to a beast,
a good guy or a bad guy,
a cat or maybe even a rat
or even a fish deep under the sea.
I am at the hands of my imagination,
then like toys when day is done
I gather up my adventures and put them away
to keep for another day of dreaming
that will again inspire me
