Little America
I cant see myself at thirty, I dont buy a lacquered thirty
Caught like flies, preserved for tomorrows jewelery, again
Lighted in the amber yard, a green shellback, green shellback
Preserved for tomorrows eyes, in tree beer tar-black brer sap,
The biggest wagon is the empty wagon is the noisiest,
The consul a horse, jefferson I think were lost
Who will tend the farm museums? who will dust todays belongings?
Who will sweep the floors, hedging near the givens?
Rally round your leaders its the mediator season
Diane is on the beach, do you realize the life shes led?
The biggest wagon is the empty wagon is the noisiest,
The consul a horse, oh man I think were lost
The biggest wagon is the empty wagon is the noisiest,
A matter of course, jefferson, jeffer
Lighted in the amber yard, a green shellback, green shellback
Sky-lied, sty-tied, nero pie-tied, in tree tar-black brer sap,
Reason has harnessed the tame, a lodging, not stockaders game
Another greenville, another magic mart, jeffer, grab your fiddle,
The biggest wagon is the empty wagon is the noisiest,
The consul a horse, jefferson I think were lost
The biggest wagon is the empty wagon is the noisiest,
The consul a horse, jefferson I think were lost

The wagon
I pushed a wagon through a muddy road
I pushed and I pulled all for naught
The wagon did not move nor did it stir
Its rear wheels stack in the murky mire
I withdraw thinking...
This wagon did not want to see the truth
This is why it will never change course or move
A wagon is a wagon
It trots the roads or be dragged on
It lives its life and endures its truth
It is only me
From whom the truth may hide
This plain truth engraved on a rock
Yet boggles taunts and tantalize in a mock

Riding To Town
WHEN labor is light and the morning is fair,
I find it a pleasure beyond all compare
To hitch up my nag and go hurrying down
And take Katie May for a ride into town;
For bumpety-bump goes the wagon,
But tra-la-la-la our lay.
There's joy in a song as we rattle along
In the light of the glorious day.
A coach would be fine, but a spring wagon's good;
My jeans are a match for Kate's gingham and hood;
The hills take us up and the vales take us down,
But what matters that? we are tiding to town,
And bumpety-bump goes the wagon,
But tra-la-la-la sing we.
There's never a care may live in the air
That is filled with the breath of our glee.
And after we've started, there's naught can repress
The thrill of our hearts in their wild happiness;
The heavens may smile or the heavens may frown,
And it's all one to us when we're riding to town.
For bumpety-bump goes the wagon,
But tra-la-la-la we shout,
For our hearts they are clear and there's nothing to fear,
And we've never a pain nor a doubt.
The wagon is weak and the roadway is rough,
And tho' it is long it is not long enough,
For mid all my ecstasies this is the crown
To sit beside Katie and ride into town,
When bumpety-bump goes the wagon,
But tra-la-la-la our song;
And if I had my way, I'd be willing to pay
If the road could be made twice as long.

Sin Wagon
He pushed me 'round
now I'm drawin' the line
He lived his life
now I'm gonna go live mine
I'm sick on wastin' my time
Well now I've been good for way too long
Found my red dress and I'm gonna throw it on
I've got nothin' to lose and nothin' to gain
'Bout to get too far gone
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little but more of my tweleve ounce nutrition
One more helpin' of what I've been havin'
I'm takin' my turn on the sin wagon
On a mission to make something happen
Feel like Delilah lookin' for Samson
Do a little mattress dancin'
That's right I said mattress dancin'
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little bit more
of what I've been missin'
I don't know where I'll be crashin'
But I'm arrivin' on a sin wagon
When it's my turn to march up to old glory
I'm gonna have one hell of a story
That's if he forgives me
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
Need a little bit more of that sweet salvation
They may take me
with my feel draggin'
But I'll fly away on a sin wagon
I'll fly away on a sin wagon

Horse Character
If one horse pulls a wagon
Then he must carry
The responsibility
Of his load alone.
But if one horse
Is the lead horse
Others present
Are within the reins.

When the flaming wagon comes
One night I see a shooting star
in the open twilight of the karoo
that draws a line of light past,
but it comes nearer
and there are flames
around it
while it shines metallic.
My ears almost want to burst
when a squadron of war planes
cut past low over the earth
and with afterburners
climb with power into the air
following the unknown flaming wagon.
Things just past far too quickly
to grab a camera of sell phone
and when the flaming wagon
with speed swerve away
and nothing can keep up with it,
I wonder if it is a secret weapon
or are there somewhere going to be
little green men that land with impudence
and ask for the big leader
or will it be beings
that is just like humans
and wear space suits?

Welcome Wagon
We are the welcome wagon girls
We're here to still your milk
If we drink it, we wont hurl
It goes down smooth as silk
We promise not to take too many
Just the right amount
I'll promise not to let Ms Jenny
Try and do the count
All we need to do right now
Is choose chocolate or white
I know there is a brown cow
But white, that don't seem right
Before we go out thru the doors
Make sure they're not the same
The chocolate's mine, the white is yours
Hey, this sounds like a game
Now the welcome wagon is filled
With milk for one and all
We'll try not to trip and spill
As we venture down the hall

I'm Always In Love
Why, I wonder, is my heart full of holes
And the feeling goes but my hair keeps growing
Will I set the sun
On a big-wheeled wagon
I'm bragging
I'm always in love
When I let go of your throat-sweet throttle
When I clean the lash of your black-belt model
Will I catch the moon
Like a bird in a cage
It's for you I swoon
I'm always in love
I don't get the connection
If this is only a test
I hope I do my best
You know I wont forget
When I fold the cold in my jet-lag palm
When I soak so long I forget my mother
Will I set the sun
On a big-wheeled wagon
I'm bragging
I'm always in love
It's a drag I sang
I'm always in love
I'm worried
I'm always in love
I'm worried
I'm worried
I'm worried
I'm always in love

Cavallina Storna
The grey horse follows its familiar road home,
it pulls a wagon with a man at the reigns.
Its hooves kick up dust. This is Sicily.
It's Summer and it hasn't rained in months.
The man at the reigns is dead.
The horse waits patiently for her master's whip.
She won't speed up without it.
At the barbershop in town
hair floated cutting through beams of light
and irritating his breath.
He thought he was to die right there,
but they waited till he was on the road.
The horse's eyes are covered to keep her calm.
She can only see ahead where she can make out
the house, and the children waiving
from the branches of the orange tree.

Gimme 8 Seconds
I got a good bull rope
I got a brand new bell
I got a hot-rod pickup truck, she can really set sail
Pushing that red line, gotta make that show
Gonna meet my buddies at the rodeo
I just drew myself a mean old bull
We're all smellin' money, 'cause the jackpot's full
He's got fire in his belly, and he turns back quick
Son, this big devil got a bag of tricks
Gimme eight more seconds
Gimme one more shot
Gimme hell below, but gimme strength on top
Gotta be crazy, gotta be insane
To hitch your wagon to a hurricane
I'm gonna wrap my rope around my glove real tight
I'm dropping my hooks down, I'm ready to ride
Say a little prayer, give my nod and go
Stay clean in the middle 'til I hear that whistle blow
Gimme eight more seconds
Gimme one more shot
Gimme hell below, but gimme strength on top
Gotta be crazy, gotta be insane
To Hitch your wagon to a hurricane
yeah, hitch your wagon to a hurricane

Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon.

Telluride
Now the girls in telluride do it like this
Cross their fingers when they kiss you
Dont say nothing behind your back
And they dont take nothin that they dont give back
Take the gold into telluride
Work all winter in the tomboy mine
Dreamin of what well do
When the snow finally ends
And the spring breaks through
Well load up the wagon & set the little one by our side
Take the gold into telluride
Id like to lay you down on a cannonball bed
Put a soft feather pillow down by your head
Intertwine flowers into a maidens veil
Wake you in the morning
Now shes wailing take the gold into telluride
Aint nothingll stop an avalanche when its sliding
Once the wagon starts to roll, you cant turn the mule and the brakes dont hold;
You end up in the valley with the little one by your side
Take the gold into telluride.
Lace curtains for the windows,
Dreams torn from a catalog page.
We may wander where the wind blows
You change your views but our love wont change
She gonna climb you high on top of a hill
Fall asleep laughing with the whipporwill
Intertwined flowers in the matrons ring
Wake you in the morning
Now shes singing take the gold into telluride
I loved my winter with a teenage bride
Dreamin of what well do
When the snow finally ends
And the spring breaks through
Well load up the wagon, set the little one by our side
Take the gold into telluride
Take the gold into telluride

The Boy Lives On Our Farm
The boy lives on our Farm, he's not
Afeard o' horses none!
An' he can make 'em lope, er trot,
Er rack, er pace, er run.
Sometimes he drives two horses, when
He comes to town an' brings
A wagon-full o' 'taters nen,
An' roastin'-ears an' things.
Two horses is 'a team,' he says,
An' when you drive er hitch,
The right-un's a 'near-horse,' I guess
Er 'off'--I don't know which--
The Boy lives on our Farm, he told
Me, too, 'at he can see,
By lookin' at their teeth, how old
A horse is, to a T!
I'd be the gladdest boy alive
Ef I knowed much as that,
An' could stand up like him an' drive,
An' ist push back my hat,
Like he comes skallyhootin' through
Our alley, with one arm
A-wavin' Fare-ye-well! to you--
The Boy lives on our Farm!

Man On The Street
Ill sing you a song, aint very long,
bout an old man who never done wrong.
How he died nobody can say,
They found him dead in the street one day.
Well, the crowd, they gathered one fine morn,
At the man whose clothes n shoes were torn.
There on the sidewalk he did lay,
They stopped n stared n walked their way.
Well, the pliceman come and he looked around,
Get up, old man, or Im a-takin you down.
He jabbed him once with his billy club
And the old man then rolled off the curb.
Well, he jabbed him again and loudly said,
Call the wagon; this man is dead.
The wagon come, they loaded him in,
I never saw the man again.
Ive sung you my song, it aint very long,
bout an old man who never done wrong.
How he died no one can say,
They found him dead in the street one day.

Hitchin A Ride
Hey mister, where you headed?
Are you in a hurry?
I need a lift to happy hour say oh no
Do you brake for distilled spirits?
I need a break aswell
The well that inebriates the guilt
1,2,1,2,3,4
Cold turkeys getting stale
Tonight Im eating crow
Fermented salmonella poison oak no
Theres a drought at the fountain of youth
And Im dehydrating
My tongue is swelling up
I say 1,2,1,2,3,4
Troubled times
You know I cannot lie
Im off the wagon and Im hitchin a ride
Theres a drought at the fountain of youth
And now Im dehydrating
My tongue is swelling up
I say
Shit!
Troubled times
You know I cannot lie
Im off the wagon and Im hitchin a ride
Hitchin a ride [*8]

Farewell, Dick!
He bowed and he doffed his tricorn hat
As the wagon both lurched and swayed,
It rattled on over the cobblestones,
And the mud in the alleyways,
The crowd had cheered when he passed them by
As he stood, so debonair,
In a new frock coat and a pair of pumps
With a ribbon tied up in his hair.
They rumbled along the Tyburn road
From York, as the people stared,
Then came to a halt at Knavesmire
Approaching the 'Three Legged Mare',
He mounted the ladder boldly,
Stamped his foot to allay his fear,
Then spoke to the executioner
In a voice both calm and clear.
The rope was knotted around his neck,
He spoke to the crowd at last,
He bid farewell to his countrymen
And the darker deeds of his past,
Undaunted then, he stepped off the rung
And fell, to swing in the air,
While the crowd was hushed, and the wagon pushed
To receive his body there!
But up on the hill was a phantom horse,
As black as a lump of coal,
Its eyes were gleaming, its coat a-shine,
Its breath, pale mist in the cold,
She started, reared, as her master hung
Then galloped right through the press,
As his soul dropped out of his body there,
She was waiting for him, Black Bess!
He leapt unthinking astride her back,
Cast one swift glance behind,
His body hung from the rope, he saw,
But he somehow didn't mind!
He doffed his hat to the sightless crowd
Then wheeled away on his horse,
And galloped away to where phantoms play
When their lives have run their course!
But a tiny child in the press had seen,
Was blessed with second sight,
She watched him wave to the mourning crowd
And disappear in the night;
She laughed and waved in the mother's arms
Who had cried 'til she was sick,
But the child then wiped her tears away
And called out - 'Farewell, Dick! '
