When The Lord Closes The Door
(kinky friedman & jeff shelby)
When i find myself alone in my house and in my head
And i blow the candles out and i take myself to bed
And i'm old enough to realize, ah, young enough to know
When the lord closes the door, he opens a little window.
When sleep closes my eyes and sends me searching for you
And i'm feelin' blue as the sky without your love to carry me through
And i'm weak enough to be afraid but strong enough to let it show.
When the lord closes the door, he opens a little window.
Baby i'm a gypsy boy, i'll ride the night until
I come to you like moonlight through your raggle-taggle window sill.
When you find yourself alone in your house and in your head
And you blow the candles out and you take yourself to bed
And you're old enough to realize, ah, young enough to know
When the lord closes the door, he opens a little window.

The Raggle Taggle Gypsy
(traditional)
There were three old gypsies came to our hall door
They came brave and boldly-o
And one sang high and the other sang low
And the other sang a raggle taggle gypsy-o
It was upstairs downstairs the lady went
Put on her suit of leather-o
And there was a cry from around the door
Shes away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o
It was late that night when the lord came in
Enquiring for his lady-o
And the servant girl she said to the lord
Shes away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o
Then saddle for me my milk white steed
- my big horse is not speedy-o
And I will ride till I seek my bride
Shes away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o
Now he rode east and he rode west
He rode north and south also
Until he came to a wide open plain
It was there that he spied his lady-o
How could you leave your goose feather bed
Your blankeys strewn so comely-o?
And how could you leave your newly wedded lord
All for a raggle taggle gypsy-o?
What care I for my goose feather bed
Wi blankets strewn so comely-o?
Tonight I lie in a wide open field
In the arms of a raggle taggle gypsy-o
How could you leave your house and your land?
How could you leave your money-o?
How could you leave your only wedded lord
All for a raggle taggle gypsy-o?
What care I for my house and my land?
What care I for my money-o?
Id rather have a kiss from the yellow gypsys lips
Im away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o!

Window To Your Heart
One door closes another one opens
But i have lost my keys though
I know through the window
Now i am in
Where do i begin
I know where to start
Right in your heart
Now i am here there is no way out
But here is where i belong no shadow of a doubt
The Black Bird Winging Its Way Inward
that early morning
the door opens and you
hear the rush of steps
going out of the house
the gate opens and
closes once again
and you
find yourself enclosed
in your freedom
of thought again
transforms into a black
bird
stretching its wings
to the breasts of dawn
and then
without so much hesitation
fly away again.

There Is Something In Us Always
there is something in us always
that closes and opens like fingers
there is something inside that watches
for love, and waits, and anticipates,
something that feels home, and
goggles for familiarity, and when it
finds it, it opens so confidently,
unmindful of any pain, expectant
of the excitement, promised and
betrayed, and mourning, and then
there is something in us that closes,
no matter what, it is still closed,
despite the death of time, it still
closes upon itself, curling, thickening
unwilling, wanting to die, but couldn't.

The Silent Hardworker
he arrives
one hour before the desired time
opens the door himself
without his aide
opens his computer
and tunes in for
some jazzy music
then to something
classical
he goes to the sofa
takes the pillow
and lays his head and
then he closes his eyes
this he does
privately inside
his office.

Don't waste a minute not being happy. If one window closes, run to the next window- or break down a door.

R. M. a revelation
when he opens up
the world closes in on him
the headman closed the window
the woman with the white long gown
closes the door
they will change his name
the one that fits his revelation of who he really is
then he moves on
to a new life
this now he is as brave as a lion
carrying the truth of his sharp teeth
his strong legs and claws
make the great leap
from one cliff to the other
below him the abyss
between him
the invisible bridge of his connection
to the the truth long hidden
he is silent now
but free
his solitude becomes a tree with long leaves
full of flowers are the branches
now the butterflies like him are free
like a chameleon tired of changing hues
he sticks to the color of the wind
the warmth of the sun
on the lush grasses of the plains

A Window Of Opportunity
In every life occasionally
a window opens before us,
a window of opportunity.
It may not be a window to money,
but a window to more friends.
When we pass through it could lead us
to friends in many lands.
So the next time a window opens
just walk on through
you’ll never know
what lies beyond it there.
It could open
to the greatest treasure there,
love and friendship
just for you.

Assume
assume that things always
wait for you with all stability
these inanimates
if you think clearly has
a lesson for us to tell:
the table no matter
how tired still stands
on its four legs
the chair no matter
how problematic
its life is
still manages to
hold your bottom
the bed no matter
what happens
even if it has some
problems taking
its much needed sleep
still accommodates
your tired body and
makes itself available
for you and your
little darlings
the windows no matter
what the weather is
still clings to the walls
it closes when it rains
and opens when it
gets too hot
the door opens and
closes when someone
from your family arrives
and departs to some
places
they do not ask questions
they perform their duties
and they never complain
until they are finally broken
and then you throw them
away or replace them
i suppose they are more
stable and uncomplaining.
why can't we be like them
less our capacity for feeling?

When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.

Your grief....
Your grief for what youve lost holds a mirror
up to where you're bravely working.
Expecting the worst, you look and instead,
here's the joyful face youve been wanting to see.
Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open,
you would be paralyzed.
Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expand
the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated
as birdwings.

When I Sleep
When I sleep
Where do I go
I go where
The Blue bird
Is red
Where
Red
Is
Blue
In the head
And the door
Opens on
A red sky
When I sleep
Where do I go
I go where
There is no where there
And the door
Have eyes
To see
Its opening
When I open
My sleep
I am there
Where I am not
And blue drops
Into a red pool
When I sleep
All my theres
Open in the head
And the door
Is blue
And new
And opens nightly
To a where
When I loose
Myself
To all my
Blues and reds
You may think
That I am dead
In my head
But I am much
Alive
When I sleep
Where do I go
I fain not to know.

Ragged Dirty
1. lord, Im broke, Im hungry, ragged and dirty too,
Broke and hungry, ragged and dirty too.
If I clean up, sweet momma, can I stay all night with you?
2. lord, I went to my window, babe, I couldnt see through my blinds,
Went to my window, babe, I couldnt see through my blinds,
Heard my best friend a-comin and I thought I heard my baby cry.
3. lord, if I cant come in here, baby, then just let me sit down in your door,
If I cant come in here, baby, then just let me sit down in your door,
And I would leave so soon that your man wont never know.
4. how can I live here, baby, lord, and feel at ease?
How can I live here, baby, lord, and feel at ease?
Well, that woman I got, man, she does just what she feels.
5. lord, you shouldnt mistreat me, baby, because Im young and wild,
Shouldnt mistreat me, baby, because Im young and wild.
You must always remember, baby, you was once a child.
6. cause Im leaving in the morning, if I have to ride the blinds,
Leaving in the morning, if I have to ride the blinds.
Well, I been mistreated and I swear I dont mind dyin

Under Cover of Night
To slip into your shadow under cover of night.
To follow your footsteps, your shadow at the window.
That shadow at the window is you and no one else;
it's you.
Do not open that window behind whose curtains you're moving.
Shut your eyes.
I'd like to shut them with my lips.
But the window opens and the breeze, the breeze
which strangely balances flame and flag surrounds my escape
with its cloak.
The window opens: it's not you.
I knew it all along.

Hope In Our Hearts
Hope raises its head in times of despair
Hope raises its head when you think no ones there.
Hope is the foundation to all in life
Hope is our strength, our deepest might.
Hope is a common ground that we all share.
Hope shows our loved ones that we care.
When hope disappears from our hearts
Where do we go? Where do we start?
How can it be, that hope opens
the doors to all the mysteries.
One door closes, and another one opens.
And looking inside you will see
The beauties and the realities.
When you feel that life on you has turned its back
And the ropes tighten, without any slack.
when you feel that no one is there
With your problems you wish to share.
Then you turn to the one who knows you best
The one that helps you when you need a rest.
He is the LORD who has always been there
He is the one that always cares.
He has shown you that “ hope is the key, it is what sets you free”.

Knock On Any Door
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Baby knock on any door
Knock on any door
Is there any place you want to go
Baby who you lookin for
Yeah, yeah, baby now you know
Its a cold world like they told you so
Knock on any door
Save your tears for some occasion
Keep your heartache to yourself
Knock on any door
Its a simple operation
Just trade your memory for your health
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Walk on
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Walk on
Its insane girl, you cant run away
Its the same world it was yesterday
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Walk on
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Walk on
Now, now, now how do you survive
With a pain so real, in a world so jive
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Peek through any shade
Knock on any door
Look through any window
Walk on
