The Shirt
As I walked into the charity store
I saw a second-hand shirt hangin up by the door
The collar was frayed, there was a stain on the cuff
Caused by ketchup or blood or some such stuff
It wasnt made of polyester or nylon
The label said made in the uk so I tried it on
And I looked in the mirror and declared
I like this shirt, I want it
Its not the label on the shirt that you wear
Its the way that you wear it
They say its style and breeding and culture that counts
But you cant change good taste on the expense account
And if design or fashion makes you a hero
You can dress all highbrow but still be an emotional zero
But I declare its not the shirt you wear
Its the way that you wear it
I was looking for danger, I should have taken more care
I was dressed to kill, I felt so debonair
Wild expectations, arrogant air
Then I walked into that bar, she was standing there
I walked over with all my savoir fair
And she said youre a smart looking dude
But your characters ugly, it clashes with my shoes
And i, I cant stand your attitude
I assumed it was leading to a romantic interlude
I thought my conquest was made
But I was stunned by the magnitude
Of her ingratitude
I spent a good thirty bucks on this babe
Like the shirt I was wearing
This romantic affair was not destined to last
The harder I tried, the louder she laughed
I was reduced to despair, my emotions laid bare
She knew I was hurt, made me feel like a jerk
I was humbled, humiliated, castrated
My masculinity dragged through the dirt
Then thrown in the air to be devoured by the lions
The vultures, the jackals and all the scavengers of love
I was strutting around with my chest stuck out
Like a peacock preparing to get laid
Thought I looked cool but she put me down
She said you look like a clown on a circus parade
Still the shirt has class, it looks well made
She was a babe of the first degree
She was totally fantabulous
Like a goddess from greece and yet
The epitome of the 20th century femininity
She was in her own league
She was meant for me, it was destiny
Like adam and eve, synchronisity
She brought out the testosterone in me
Last time I saw that babe she was smiling contentedly
Now Im trapped on this murder rap, a mistaken identity
It wasnt me, it wasnt me, it wasnt me
Now this cop says its up to you, death row or solitude
Crime of passion, you should plead insane
You say you wouldnt lie, but weve just blown your alibi
Weve found your shirt and its got a blood stain
It was the shirt you were wearing
It was the shirt you were wearing

You Look Good In My Shirt
When you walked up behind me and covered my eyes
And whispered in my ear, guess who
I rattled off names like I really didnt know
But all along I knew it was you
And, the longer we talked, the more we laughed
And wondered why we didnt last
It had been a long time, but later last night
Baby, we caught up real fast
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
Thats right
You look good in my shirt
Well now Im not saying that we solved overnight
Every way that we went wrong
Oh, but what Im seeing Id sure love seeing
Every morning from now on
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
Cmon now
Aww thats right
Oh you look so fine
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
And maybe its a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is youre sure looking
Good in my shirt
You look good in my shirt
You look good in my shirt

The Shirt
The buttonholes were empty.
The buttons had all let go.
The shirt was now a remnant,
one he did outgrow.
The sleeves were short so he rolled them.
The plaid material was faded.
Now it was getting much too tight
as he saw his name brocaded.
The name was what she called him,
'Sonny, sonny boy.'
Her voice came back when he wore it.
It was a sound of joy.
He would have to give up wearing it
and pray that she would know
that no other shirt he'd ever wear
were what her hands did sew.
Mom. dear mom you come alive
everytime I see that shirt.
It helps me when I'm missing you.
It takes away the hurt.
Every other shirt that I have worn
could never quite replace
the feeling I get when I see it
for I see your loving face.

No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems
Ive been up to my neck workin 6 days a week
Wearin holes into the shoes on my feet
Been dreamin of gettin away since I dont know
Aint no better time than now..for mexico
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
Blues what blues..hey I forgot them
The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom
And no shirt, no shirt, and no problems!
No problems
Want a towel on a chair in the sand by the sea
Want to look thru my shades and see you there with me
Want to soak up life for a while
In laid back mode
No boss, no polite, no stress, no dress code
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
Blues what blues hey I forgot them
The sun and the sand and a drink in my hand with no bottom
And no shoes, no shirt, and no problems
Babe lets get packed..tank tops and flip flops if u got them
No shoes, no shirt, no problems
No problems.

Wear My Hat
She came looking for me with her arms open wide,
Like some long lost friend of mine.
She said excuse me, but do you remember me ?
I said no, I dont believe I do
So she looked me up and down
And undressed me with her eyes,
Then she said youve got everything I need, youve got everything I want
So I said ok,
You can wear my hat,
You can have my coat,
You can take my shirt
cos I dont need it.
You can wear my shoes,
You can take my socks,
Come on take my bag its yours
If you love it,
You can have it if you love it,
Aint no problem if you love it,
Come on take it if you love it.
So her friend came up to me
With a pen and paper in her hand,
Expressing some interest in the number of my room,
She said excuse me, but do you remember me?
I said no, she said can I appeal to you?
So I looked her up and down
And realising her insinuations I blushed
She said listen babe you dont know me,
No you dont know me but you owe me,
And I love you,
Yes I love you,
Put your arms around me cos I love you,
I got all your records and I love you
So I suggested
You can wear my hat,
You can have my coat,
You can take my shirt
cos I dont need it.
You can wear my shoes,
You can take my socks,
Come on take my bag its yours
If you love it,
You can have it if you love it,
Aint no problem if you love it,
Come on take it if you love it.
Well later on that day this guy came to me
With a scrap of paper in his hand
He said hey buddy can you sign your name for me?
I said why, do I owe you money? he said no
I said listen pal do I know you? have we ever met?
Why do you want my name on this little piece of paper?
He said i love you,
I dont know you but I love you,
Like my brother I love you,
Put your arms around me cos I love you
I said hey lets not rush things
You can wear my hat,
You can have my coat,
You can take my shirt
cos I dont need it.
You can wear my shoes,
You can take my socks,
Come on take my bag its yours
If you love it,
You can have it if you love it,
Aint no problem if you love it,
Come on take it if you love it.
You can wear my hat,
You can wear my hat,
You can wear my hat,
Come on wear my hat.

Waxes And Wanes
Never realised how disastrous it would be
to wear a T shirt with Guess written large
on it, combined with my pirate jeans and
bandy-legged boots I was Che Guevarra
himself, not a good look
Realising it's full moon on 5 April it made
sense, while the moon waxes and wanes
my life changes and not in a good way -
Big Bro becomes belligerent; 8000 years
standing still as politicians dither
Playing charades calling it human rights &
respect without meaning it, felt better when
I changed my T shirt, being Che does not
feel good at all…

Shrinking
Have you ever had that feeling
you are growing,
or is it your clothes are shrinking?
You know when your trouser bottoms
start creeping up to your knees,
or your shirt sleeves
start climbing up to your elbows,
or your waistline begins to grow,
but your belt hangs loose,
or your chest is expanding
because the buttons keep popping of your shirt.
Oh yea, I know that feeling ever so well
as it happens to me all the time
just after my wife does the washing.
She follows the instructions to the letter,
but still they begin to shrink.
Nothing is unshrinkable when she goes to wash,
except once.
There always has to be one exception.
I had a nice towelin shirt
and when she had finished with it,
the shirt touched my knees
and looked like I was wearing a skirt.
Here I am six foot three,
yet my clothes will fit someone three feet three
and a lot thinner than me.
Now I am at my wits end wondering just what to do.
It feels like playing Russian roulette
when the next wash begins.

And I was victim to that very early in my career, where I would go into auditions, and I'd be wearing a big T shirt, a big baggy T shirt and loose jeans. You know, to try and show people that there was more to me than just that.

Wearing A Shirt
It is better to wear a shirt to protect your happiness,
The wearing of an item of clothing like this one is immense.
We stagger and wait more than others, wearing shirts and trousers,
Still this happened a long time ago, once when the sea opened.
The land was for joyous fuelling, readying with swords and weapons,
By the way, it was clothing on the way home.
It was bitter so much like sour fruit, inside was a yearning,
Too late was the bereavement of a shirt.
The immense puzzle was solved on the way home,
A vehicle stuns us amazingly in the worst possible touch.

Tuck Your Shirt In
My name is Holly
And I like
I'm so glad that you asked me out tonight
Our conversation over dinner was really nice
But don't forget you still owe me dessert
It's 12 we missed the late show
So let's head over to this joint that I know
Everytime I take someone it's always such a ride
But there's a dress code
You've got to follow
There's no exceptions
And once you're in
If you want TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of
Other clothes
If you don't follow this
One moment
Tuck your shirt in
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
We're probably gonna need to call a cab
Ten minute walk over there and back
But I think it's best we
Save our energy
Tonight I'm really on the grind
Otherwise I'd normally wait a while
Before I'd ask
Somebody to my party
But there's a dress code
You've got to follow
There's no exceptions
And once you're in
If you want TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of
Other clothes
If you don't follow this
One moment
Tuck your shirt in
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
But there's a dress code
You've got to follow
There's no exceptions
And once you're in
If you want TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of

If you don't follow this
One moment
Tuck your shirt in
TMA
You better need to be
Oh baby
But before you enter
Tuck your shirt in
No way you'll get rid of

If you don't follow this

I Heard You
Today I screwed up again,
You said I could tell in the way you said goodbye,
I saw you sitting at your t-shirt stand with your new boyfriend,
Hes really cool,
I get the point,
Chorus
I dont want you, I dont want you,
I heard you, I heard you,
I heard you say,
Not a chance,
What dont you see,
I dont want you, I dont want you,
I heard you, I heard you,
I heard you say,
Youre not good enough for me,
Today I screwed up again,
I wasnt paying attention,
I walked into the wall again,
I heard you laugh and saw you grin,
While you were sitting at your t-shirt stand,
With all your cool friends theyre really cool,
I get the point,
Chorus
Today Ill give it one last try,
And then I know Ill wonder why,
I did it to myself once again,
I saw your boyfriend hes 63,
Quarterback on varsity, the football players love to torture me,
So Im feeling like Im not fitting in,
I know that Im not fitting in with you,
And your stuck-up friends,
I get the point.

Loving Is The Only Heaven
You pad across
the white tile floor
almost animal
your beauty
something only you
could tame
I have to raise my arm against it
as you come out of the sun
wearing only my white silk shirt
blown gracefully
against your curves
the shirt billowing behind you
as if
you were an angel
with folded wings
each step
a thing of wonder
lost in thought
as if you had taken – a wrong turning
& seemed surprised to be
here
stranded
kissing this human
who seems to know
that loving
is the only Heaven.

Man With A Lapel
I saw a lapel on his begrimed shirt,
With all the decent colours, indication
That he wanted to scrutinize me when I watched.
Hearts are made for electrical cities,
With every body, with every one in command,
And underneath is a lagoon of sewage and bodies.
Who is that ‘man’ or should I say ‘ghost’?
That man needs affection, not a wrong stare and glare,
He is not my body or coat, he is conspirator and host.
I saw label on his top-shirt, I recall,
And I never want to see him again.

I Believe
When I was young and full of grace
And spirited--a rattlesnake.
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
Youre on your honor not to tell
I believe in coyotes and time as an abstract
Explain the change, the difference between
What you want and what you need, theres the key,
Your adventure for today, what do you do
Between the horns of the day?
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in
When I was young and give and take
And foolish said my fool awake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
Youre on your honor, on your honor
Trust in your calling, make sure your callings true
Think of others, the others think of you
Silly rule golden words make, practice practice makes perfect,
Perfect is a fault, in fault lies change
I believe my humors wearing thin
And change is what I believe in
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in
When I was young and full of grace
As spirited a rattlesnake
When I was young and fever fell
My spirit, I will not tell
Youre on your honor not to tell
I believe in example
I believe my throat hurts
Example is the checker to the key
I believe my humors wearing thin
And I believe the poles are shifting
I believe my shirt is wearing thin
And change is what I believe in

A Rondeau
To iron a shirt, first lightly spray,
then left and right hand interplay;
with one to press and one to lead,
the path's prepared, the creases freed
and gathered wrinkles fade away.
The woman's old, in slow decay,
she's taken care of every day,
yet restless hands still feel the need
to iron a shirt.
Her mind now tends to disarray,
yet sometimes skills, long practiced, stay
and though she lacks her former speed,
her family and friends concede,
she's always known the proper way
to iron a shirt.

Nothings Worth More Than You....
What went wrong
I'm still confused
You cheated, you lied
You had me all bruised.
I know you meant
When you said you do
Those vows, those promises
Your love was true.
Why did you go
And did what you've done
You made me snatch myself
From you and away run.
Here I'm alone in our room
Starring at the wrinkles of the bedsheet
That you've left behind
For me to stare and read.
I'm wearing an oversize shirt
That to you belong
That I everytime wear
After us getting along.
Peeping in the mirror
All I can see is me
Stading alone, looking back
A scene that has never meant to be.
I look at my lips
And suddenly my body shivers
At the feeling of your finger tips
A sensation to forget never.
I look at my neck
Suddenly do I gasp
Your lips circling its base
What more could I ask?
I look at my waist
I feel myself grabbed tight
In your palms, in a haste
I feel your impatience building inside.
I look at my eyes
Dry and desperate
I miss you, I cannot hide
I want you now, alright?
The scars you've left
They still hurt
Your memories, your love
Your oversize shirt.
Baby, why did you do this?
Wasn't I enough?
I know you meant
When you said me you loved.
I'm standing here broke
Lost and confused
Wondering whats worth
The pain you gave or you.......
What is worth?
Nothings worth more than you
I grab my phone
'Baby, its okay, I forgive you.'

The Story Of A Less Sexyful Politician (Or And All I Got Was This Lousy Shirt)
I took the raven out for a walk
I watched the mud turn to the stones
I taught each parrot nuances of talk
I brushed the uniforms of all the dead clones
I was strict and stern never meant to flirt
and all I got was this lousy shirt
I drove the sane to the insane
The peaceful to the rage of their bones
I served my best but it was all in vain
For neither the social nor the lones
Paid any tribute now I feel hurt
'cause all I got was this lousy shirt
Will someone try to figure out explain
The causes dragged to the edge of effects
Will someone say why memory selects
The most hideous of all the refrains
The least profitable of all the gains
Even the poorest boy's got his breeches
The most stupid dwells in world's riches
Even the ugliest girls got skirts
and all I got was this lousy shirt

I Hope That I Get Old Before I Die
Sometimes I feel like being wispy
And once in a while I feel like being dry
But were doomed and were drowned by this feeling we surround
So I hope that I get old before I die
Ohhhhh
Its a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasnt happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that Ill be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die
Clear off the kitchen table darling
For on the kitchen table I must lie
Im just tired for my wife just served the banquet of my life
And I hope that I get old before I die
Ohhhhh
Its a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasnt happened
Why why why
And I think about the dirt that Ill be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die
Ohhhhh
Its a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope

On Her Mind
She's wearing the tee-shirt
of a band I really like
maybe that's coincidence
maybe that's alright
I keep thinking about the way
she said "I'll see you soon"
was it more than words?
I'm just tryin' to find
what's on her mind?
I don't know when I'll see her
but I'm sure that I will
its just another matter of time
some more time to kill
I can imagine so many things
her and I sometime in the spring
...something's happening
I'm just tryin' to find
what's on her mind?
[CHORUS:]
(I want peace but I don't make it
I want love but I don't give it
i want hope but I can't find it
and I want her to heal me)
she's wearing the tee-shirt
of my favorite band
I should've told her
that I was a fan
people say I should just leave it be
leave it up to destiny
but that ain't for me
I'm just trying to find
what's on her mind?
[CHORUS and outros]
